@Rea:
Reading Naruto has made me wary of anything with a huge timeskip, so I hope not.
Because Oda is definitely the same level of author as Kishimoto and can't pull it off, amirite?

Are you so out of touch with fiction that you associate Naruto with long timeskips.
Naruto is literally the only timeskip attempt ever in fiction.
Relax, I'm not saying he can't pull it off. Just that it makes me wary. OP manga has been going at a nice pace, a timeskip would mess with it I feel.
So what about Luffy and Company's defeat in the Sabaody Archipelago.
Is that directed at me?
A timeskip doesn't have to screw up the pacing by default, anything between 4 months and a year would fit perfectly with the current narrative.
Naruto is literally the only timeskip attempt ever in fiction.
And non-fiction stories too.
I'm talking about huge ones.
I don't think anyone thinks there's gonna be anything longer than a 2 year timeskip.
Seeing as it took a year for Luffy to get from being unknown to having a 300belli price tag on his head, everything that happened up to now, took about a year. 2 years would definitely mess with the pace it is going.

A nice pace?
You mean the island to island adventuring? Because that pace was distrupted completely with the War and Impel Down.

We really have no idea how long it took Luffy to become what he is today. And seeing as Ace was adventuring for 3 years, and only reached the status that he was I don't think 2 years would dangerously alter the pace.
I expect less, but just saying.
The idea of time-skip is okay to me as long as we know what each major character is doing during their time of absence. Naruto just left its readers with "Naruto and everyone trains", without giving any hint at what they'll be doing. And at the end of the time skip, Naruto comes back a little taller but otherwise almost exactly the same as before. This follows the time skips of Dragonball.
If there is a time skip, I would like a chapter that depicts what Luffy is doing during the period of isolation. Panels of what the other Strawhats are doing are good inclusions as well. I don't want Sabo's fate to be revealed until the Revolutionaries' next big event. Nor Bon Kurei's or Moria's for that matter.
@JERK:

No I don't mean from island to island, more like adventure to adventure. The Impeldown and war arc were an adventure and needed to move the plot forward .
It's been like that since the manga started, months up to a year I can understand seeing how far away some of them are and how much stronger they need to get for NW, but 2 years is way too much.

Dragonball gave us hints. Goku ran around the world the first time, the second time he was training with Kami. The third was the sort of jump where it wasn't needed. The rest are after the margin of error so..

This is not pacing you're describing. Hell the very idea of Marineford and Impel Down being adventures is stupid. Marineford especially.
It is undeniable that the structure and pacing were altered majorly after Kuma scattered the crew. The entire focus changed. The entire cast makeup changed. The entire method of travel changed. And a unique end result seperate from the entire journey was the motive and result.
Add on top of that the fact that we have reached the end of Part 1 of the Grand Line, and Part 1 of the adventure, AS WELL as the end of an era among pirates and Marines alike… and this is high time for an intermission between acts.
Act One is over.

If all you care about is adventure to adventure, and you aren't caring or differentiating about details beyond that, that make this a much different scenario right now then pre-Shabondy…
..then nothing about the timeskip distrupts that.
I mean jesus, we'll skip over this coming year or so within like a chapter and after reuniting they'll be right on an adventure again with Fishman Island.
The bare bones nonsense way of "pacing" you're looking at makes this no different from usual.
Arc / wind down in between stuff / Arc / wind down in between stuff / Arc / wind down in between stuff / Arc / wind down in between stuff etc etc etc

Chapter 589 page 16 says he started his adventure at 17. The movie strong world was said to be his last adventure as a 17 year old. All of this happened in a little over a year.
Strong World isn't canon.
This is not pacing you're describing. Hell the very idea of Marineford and Impel Down being adventures is stupid. Marineford especially.
How is this any different from Alabasta and CP9 other than the fact that he is separated from his crew?

Indeed act 1 is over, why does this mean there has to be a large time skip? Yes, there will be a time skip I got that. But why does it have to take 2 years for them to reunite exactly?
Strong World isn't canon.
Forgive me, but has the definition of canon changed? If the author has written it, then it is canon. Doesn't matter if it is in manga format or not.
How exactly could Oda screw up the timeskip? He's at a really good place right now in the series, and it'd be hard to fuck everything up.
He'd have to make Luffy stronger than everyone else in the series (or weaker, which appears to be the path Naruto took), make an irrelevant side character suddenly one of the most crucial villains in the series (I'm talking someone like Don Krieg), and have a bunch of characters like Perona and Hancock join the crew post-timeskip to make it even remotely as bad as Naruto.
The timeskip won't be that crazy. The SH will be stronger and stylistically-different, whereas other obvious stuff (like Blackbeard doing something crazy as fuck, more news on other important pirates and marines) will have gone down during the timeskip.
Where does Strong World take place Rea.
:P
I know Oda is the better author between Kishi and himself, I'd still put my money on him being able to pull it off. I won't be arguing for Naruto or the author of the manga.
@ Retsudo: The Grandline.
Good.
Now when does it take place.
Obviously between SA and thrillerbark. Can you get to the point please.
SW isn't canon to the comic book.
Come on man.
Sorry, but when canon is mentioned it has to be written by the author. Was or wasn't the last movie written by Oda? If no I apologize, if yes it is canon.
It's canon to the movies not the comic.
@Rea:

Ehh, I'll give you that it was written by him, but I won't exactly count it as canon until I see the movie and judge what happens. If it's Luffy defeating Shiki like I expect, I just can't see that fitting into the storyline. Movies, along with anime fillers, while likely including input from the author are always supposed to be taken as grains of salt. Generally correct concepts, but not always exact truth kind of things.
As for the whole Luffy's last adventure as a 17 year old. It still doesn't prove it's been a year. We don't know how long this upcoming time skip could be. meaning they could've been adventuring for 3 months, the upcoming timeskip is 7 and they meet when Luffy is now 18. If anything this will help set up a timeline for OP in a way, although I feel like Oda won't do specific dates.
@Rea:

MOTIVE.
This is not along the Journey to One Piece, this is not a pit stop. This is a completely differently driven detour Luffy's taken.
CP9 was part of the Water7 experience.
And how the hell can you just swipe aside this not being a Strawhat event, but a solo one either?
Indeed act 1 is over, why does this mean there has to be a large time skip?
The question is on you here.
What about a timeskip here is detrimental? You're admitting an act is over. A HUGE act that has spanned nearly 60 volumes. This is a perfect place for an intermission to fall. How is it not?
Yes, there will be a time skip I got that. But why does it have to take 2 years for them to reunite exactly?
I haven't said two years. I simply think they'll meet when the new year comes.
This isn't about how long it takes them to reunite. Are you paying attention to the arguments being made?
THIS is why they need to take some time off.

Forgive me, but has the definition of canon changed? If the author has written it, then it is canon. Doesn't matter if it is in manga format or not.
No it hasn't changed. You're just completely mistaken.
By your logic the color spreads and poster image style chapter covers are canon, even though they're just random little drawings of Strawhats futzing around.
People are objecting to Strong World because of a few things.
It won't happened anywhere in the future now because Sengoku has stepped down.
And it didn't conceivably happened between TB and Shabondy due to how utterly unacknowledged it is by Sengoku.
There is no such thing as canon to the movies. It is either canon or it is not. Canon was/used/is to be defined as whether or not the author had written it. Has this changed, if so what to.
I looked to reading your replies tomorrow.

No it fucking isn't.
Canon is a concept specific to each individual story and what does or doesn't belong in it.
Would you say that the One Piece high school gag comic Oda did is canon?
Because you're non-definition would include that.
Same with Neko Majin Z and Dragonball.
Nice, Chopperman is canon now.
No Respect Time too.

You obviously do not know what canon means or are a dumbass.
Its obvious that after recruting Sanji and destroying Arlong Park they found a interviewer while going to Logue Town.
Oda wrote it so it must be canon.
They also crossdressed as housewifes.
Both Romance Dawn Pilots Are Canon!!11!!!1!!
Man, I remember when that Crescent Moon guy joined Luffy's crew.
Goku is traveling in the One Piece world.
Remember when the Strawhats were all mythological creatures?
Good times, good times.
Or what about when they went to school and Shanks was their teacher? I think it fit like right before Kuma separated them all.
@Rea:
Obviously between SA and thrillerbark. Can you get to the point please.
Nope, Sengoku mentioned Shiki in Impel Down arc.
–--------------------
Zoro was actually Zoro White.
I think we ran him/her out…
Another soul leaves the forum in tears.
Or when they were hanging out with the people from Dragonball, and Nami and Usopp were pirates with Vegeta? Yeah, that was my favorite part of the manga. Too bad the anime skipped it.
Wait a minute if Cross Epoch is canon then One Piece and Dragon Ball must be in the same universe.

Monkey D Dragon can grant you a wish if you find One Piece which is in fact a Dragon Ball.

Oh the continuity errors.
Lock up the next nakama thread Silk and Galley complete the crew.
Garp was a pirate and a marine at the same time. Not to mention Luffy ate 2 gomu gomu fruits, good thing one was from the gomu tree and not the devil fruit one.
