Anyone here read this series? Snoopycool is scanlating it and it seems to contain…Yuri...
Franken Fran
-
-
Yuri? No…
Guro? Yes.
-
Guro?
Nope Nope Nope.
-
Hey Tizzy, I'll give it a go - Link me up Tizoc !
EDIT : Actually, LOL - Don't - Just found out what Guro means …
-
-
I love Franken Fran. It isn't even because of the heavy use of gore elements, It's actually funny. The moment when you think "well, I guess she really helped them" and just on the next page, whatever she made appears.
-
…and thus I lose all interest...
Honestly, don't take his word for it. I've read a few chapters of Franken Fran; it's all right. The drawings are fairly well done, the plot's… okay, even though it has only a little continuity and is mostly episodic. Sometimes people are just focusing on the wrong elements of an anime/manga...
I wouldn't recommend it to the super-casual manga reader, but for those who like to browse different manga, it's worth a read.
-
I have actually been 'considering' reading it ever since SC started scanlating it. I just recently asked about it cuz I wanted a new manga to read.
…but who knows I might DL it eventually or give it to my friend. -
Nope Nope Nope.
You sir are a dirty liar.
…and thus I lose all interest...
I don't see why.
The stories are good, and have a "moe macabre" angle to the endings. Sometimes, Fran seems totally oblivious to how freakish she and her taste in surgeries are - other times, she's perfectly aware and borders on vindictive.
There's no yuri, to my knowledge. This additional creation of the doctor who build Fran came along but Fran hasn't done anything sexual to her. I think.
It's a good manga, but after all my science coursework some of the explanations don't hold too much water anymore, which is why I don't follow as closely as I once did.
-
Weird, I actually just read this all last night.
Not, guro and not yuri.
Least, not from what I've read on One Manga.
And the other creation is her "little sister" whom she just does weird experiments on. Not for the faint of heart, I think, but people used to gore won't back a lash at this manga. Kind of odd and darkly funny at times.
Like the chick that was turned into a caterpillar, and then went through metamorphosis to get her normal body back only to
! eat that guy after she mated with him.
-
I've read Franken Fran and occasional gruesome scenes aside, I loved it. It's not the kind of manga I usually like but the twisted stories just kept me coming back to read the new chapters. The most disturbing so far has been the caterpillar girl one.. I just… couldn't get over it but I still, somehow, like it. The art is pretty good IMO.
I liked the whale-monster girl chapter a lot. Dunno why but it moved me. -
-
-
Nah, it's not particularily moving, but the whale-thing was definitely unexpected. I didn't see that one coming at least.
-
God….. this comic.. it just, it blows my mind!!!!
WOW! -
Just tried this out and have to say I'm starting to like it.
! Kinda confused on the caterpillar girl one. Was the girl the one saying "Sorry, sorry are you.. ok?"
-

Yup, that was her saying that.
-
Read all the chapters on OM yesterday. It's a decent series, but at times I was straight up confused and had no idea what the fuck was going on. Maybe I just read it too quickly.
-
Hey guys, the latest chapter had the spaghetti monster. The SPAGHETTI MONSTER!!!
-
I thought it was the immortal one? Is this series still going on irregular releases or is it just the scanlations?
-
the only thing I couldn't get was the insect eye implented guy's.
was the girl a corpse? I don't get it.
not ghost, since he could touch it.
no idea….............

Yeah, that was confusing as fuck.
There's also little things that confuse me too. Like why did that guy let his caterpillar-girlfriend eat him? He acted like he was liking it too. Was he just a masochist? I thought that was just really sudden and fucking random.
Or why did that guy enter the room when his girlfriend (who used to have a hand as her body) got a monster's body? He looked like he was scared as shit… yet he still entered the room and got crushed by her?
And this is probably due to me speeding through the chapter... but what the fuck was going on in "Fake?"
-
This is an awesome series. I read it through curiosity last year and boy I was in for something. What I liked about it is the chapters ending in a series of misfortunate events. It's like those horror humor flicks that end with stuff making no sense, or just not happy in a way you want it.
My favoite end was the rapist that ended up working in a themepark due his his body being transferred to a bear suit.
-
I love how this series always does such grotesque stuff in such a controlled way and distorts natural social conventions at times as well. The only draw-back is there's never a happy ending. Ever.
-
That's not a drawback.
-
That's not a drawback.
Oh come on, I'd like a love story to not end with one partner eating the other.
-
But that sort of thing works here. Besides… You can see it as a happy ending in Fran's perspective XD
-
It works but I still kinda don't like it:>
-

Why was there no pirates? It was a clear nod ot Pastafarian.
SAD FACE! -

Uh… judging by his face, I don't think he wanted or was enjoying it at all. :wassat:

XD
I looked at the end of that chapter for a good 5 seconds when Fran said where she put him. I'm like "WTF?" -
started reading it. sick and gory. fun as well. a guilty pleasure for me
-
I think the new chapter on OM really shows what I mean about no happy endings being a drawback. Couldn't Pudding and the girl just live happily ever after?T_T
-
@The:
XD
I looked at the end of that chapter for a good 5 seconds when Fran said where she put him. I'm like "WTF?"Come to think of it, the new 'Father' and his daughter wanted to go there.
I kind of agree with TLC.
-
Even if they both did die, I thought that was actually really touching.
Really good example of how appearances don't matter when it comes to love.I was afraid that that chapter would turn out with some fucked up shit like the girl pushing the dog off a cliff or something. Glad to see it didn't.
-
I love how this series makes me think about things from a different point of view. Funny the guys evil organization is nonprofit charities, just a hilarious concept.
-
I happy to see that people actually like this series. It's the kind of manga I will never be able to get my friends to read (too much guro) so it's nice to know other people like it. It makes it feel less like a guilty pleasure. (as alfredjohn put it)
The two most recently translated chapters (31 and 32) were both decent. I particularly liked chapter 31. Reason behind spoiler cut:
! I like stories dealing with gender, especially when it's addressed in a subversive way. Plus hermaphroditism really is cool adaptation. I'm not sure what the moral of this story is…. 'Can't live with them can't live without them'? 'People suck'? ...That's the message in every Franken Fran story really.
! Nonetheless, humans transcending the arbitrary limits on their biology, such as a binary gender system, is always neat. I would love to see a follow-up story on the child at the end but I won't hold my breath (and even if it did happen, this is Franken Fran, so it would be horrifying in some way). My favorite is still chapter 4, "Cosmetic Surgery". It's one of the few with a (relatively) happy ending. Moreover, it's cute how all the teenagers radically alter their appearance without a second thought. It may be a nightmare for a parent but, it seems to me at least, people really should be less squeamish about body modification stuff….(BTW, I'm sorry if this post is too weird. This manga brings out the transhumanist in me.)
-
Sick…
Sick...
This manga is a goddamn mindfuck. -
And we are suckers for it.
My favorite has to be the Mascot chapter. Because it had a happy ending~~

Looking back, I guess it actually did have a happy ending. I must have been distracted by the thought of the child molesting father working at a theme park in a mascot body that has the power of twenty horses… But as far as Franken Fran goes that's really not too bad.
Actually, many of them really aren't that bad on the whole... Of course others pick up the slack. I found chapter 29, 'Egg Parturition', to be especially squicky (larva babies). Even by Franken Fran standards. The worst part was that the larva babies were actually kinda cute. But then you see all the horrible stuff happens to them shudder. Naturally, your mileage may very.
But, yeah, we all need a good mind fuck every once in a while.

I heard this is more gruesome than berserk is that true? tough to imagine anything more gruesome than the skull knight arc
really don't want to read it if that's true i never really liked cruel situations to that extent
-

Probably.
Miura's guro tends toward the hewing of bodies into bits, with eyes/ears/noses lopped off all over the place. But one doesn't tend to see bone, sinew and muscle all that often, i.e. the innards of the slain. That kind of detail is usually featured pretty heavily in Franken Fran, heck it's more graphic than the supposedly guro Chaos;Head visual novel.
Still though…the guro is second to the plot and characters, so watch it for that if anything.

The thing is, the gruesome thing in Berserk contribute to… the path of humanity, which make it somewhat educational, and a humane and artistic manga to read, as the ends of each arc usually show us a message that even in the darkest and most horrific night we can still see the light of hope and tell us to trust in humanity, and the main characters are on their way to humanity. Franken Fran, on the other hand...

I basically agree with the above posters.
One thing I would add is that in Franken Fran it might be easier to laugh at the violence since it's so prevalent and so extreme. In Berserk or maybe Gantz, the violence could be seen as more horrific in that it can involve characters you actually like and care about.
But yeah, Franken Fran, in terms of sheer gore, is much worse. If you don't get a bit of a twisted thrill at seeing really disturbing stuff, don't read it. There isn't some amazing story you're missing out on or anything.
-
The 2d one seems topical, especially with all the anime contacts going around. The 2nd girl look seems like its only a matter of time really, I mean I can really see some messed up chick doing this to herself. If there is a girl that could make herself look like a cat, you know, I am just saying.

-
Okay….looked at a few chapters....heard about how bad it was....never, ever reading this again. I'm almost scared to go to sleep tonight for fears of nightmares, and having to probably have a light or something on.
-
baby .

Started reading it like a month ago. Been following it ever since. I'm not a fan of blood n gore myself, so thats not why I like Franken Fran.
First of all, its mostly a one-shot story (kinda like Detective Conan); so to me its kinda refreshing, seeing how I don't have to wait for next chap to see what happens. Waiting for OP every week is bad enough, no need to add more manga in the waiting list.
Secondly, its main theme, from what I can perceive, is Irony. Read a couple of it and you can start seeing it all over. Irony of love, humanity, life, etc. And I like irony.
But of course, if what you are looking for is light reading, then its not recommended I guess
-
Franken Fran is like a parody of societal conventions that twists everything around in a pool of gore and totally distorts your sense of morality and ethics. Which is awesome, I love series that make fun of the black and white viewpoint.

It feels weird resurrecting a 5 year old dead thread, but Franken Fran has been licensed for English distribution by Seven Seas.
North American publisher Seven Seas Entertainment announced on Tuesday that it acquired the rights to Katsuhisa Kigitsu's dark parody manga series Franken Fran. The company will release the series in two-in-one omnibus collections starting in February 16, 2016. Each of the four omnibus volumes with color inserts will list for US$19.99.
