Chapter 382 "Demon's Hideout" Discussion

anyone else going with the theory that just before they start fighting one of the other strawhats will appear and take it from there?
i was actually thinking that. maybe it'll happen, or maybe luffy just might beat the crap out of blueno .
-

I'm still going with the theory that Luffy is gonna end up "lost" somewhere (probably through a door-trick by Blueno), which gives the others time to finish their fights, until Luffy shows up to beat Lucchi.
And then… CP9 turns on Spandam, Spandam eats a (logia?) DF and kicks CP9 ass. Luffy beats Spandam - the "evil dream" is finished.
Just had to repeat my little theory here because it just has been made more probable by Lucchi's confession he is just following orders.
-
Spanda with a Logia? Coffee-Coffee comes to mind; he could spill himself on himself. XD
Thanks for the chapter, and the translations.
As said in the spoiler thread: Spanda needs his ass whupped. Badly. Lucci is badass. And, I'm interested to see where Oda wants to take Luffy–Blueno. The scenarios put forth thus far seem plausible, like the Air Door theory.
... I really want the next chapter now. >.<

just following orders because he's allowed to legally kill, i can't see him turning on anyone.
-
Wonderful chapter. Spandam's deliciously evil in this one, and Lucci keeps getting more and more bastardous. Cannot wait to see what'll come of all this.

My god jack, this is brilliant! That´s much better then the Robin stuff I´ve thought about and it is even much more plausible. It would be actually the same as when Luffy´s fight with Viper got interupted because Luffy fell in that "cave". So simple and yet brilliant.
And then… CP9 turns on Spandam, Spandam eats a (logia?) DF and kicks CP9 ass. Luffy beats Spandam - the "evil dream" is finished.
I disagree on everything except the Spandam eats a DF part. I´m sure his original plan is to make Kaku and Califa have a DF power so that he can over come them with Seastones or a flooded room if they decide to turn against him. But since it isn´t a rare thing in One Piece something unexpected will happen which will force Spandam to eat one of those himself and thus being more of a challenge to Franky who´s the only one I want to see kick Spandams ass.
-
The last page is so awesome.
Spandam is even growing on me, despite that he's a huge dickhead. I liked the way he was going crazy all the time. And that one part reminds me so much of Arlong's "WHEN DID I BREAK MY PROMISE?"
And I really liked that one page with CP9 leaving.
-

Well, after they get beaten, that won't matter too much anyway..

Heh, I can't take credit for the idea though :glare: Dunno who said it first..

I'll explain where this idea came from. It's actually a plot twist from Rurouni Kenshin, where in the end the 'guys who were following orders' (the oniwabanshu group, thx wolfwood) turned on their contractor after being beaten by Kenshin. The main enemy, an evil weakling very much like Spandam, pulled out a Gattling Gun and killed the oniwabanshu group, and thus became the final "boss" for Kenshin to beat.
I'm really convinced Spandam is gonna eat a powerful DF fruit to become the "last villain" for Luffy to beat in this arc. The reason is that he is the personification of the evil justice dream, and thus he has to be beaten by Luffy in a final battle to have his dream destroyed. That's how it always goes..
About CP9 turning on Spandam, it's just an idea because as we know Oda used to ink for Rurouni Kenshin so he might have the plot twist I mentionned in mind.. plus Lucchi admitting he just follows orders makes it a bit more plausible.. "following orders" is not as strong as "following a dream" in terms of loyalty.. but like I said, just an idea..
-
Well I just don´t think that it works well with One Piece. Luffy has made his promise to kick Lucci´s ass and whenever Luffy makes such a promise it happens. And if it happens it´s always the main villains that get kicked. He promised to kick Crocodile´s ass, did it and everything was over. He promised to kick Enel´s ass, did it and everything was over.
And when Lucci has been surpassed it just wouldn´t be OP if then he takes on Spandam in the same arc. It´s just too DBZish for me that peole get stronger then before and get the next big thing in the same arc. It just isn´t OPish.
-
And that's why I fall between the two views: goofy Spandam tries to do 'Kenshins', eats a fruit but doesn't grasp the power or the power will be something silly (or both), and fails on it.
Edit:
Asterix and Obelix had used this few times: bad guys thinks they've become all powerful by drinking the marvel soup but the power of the soup has wearn off before they attempt an overthrow or alike. -
And when Lucci has been surpassed it just wouldn´t be OP if then he takes on Spandam in the same arc. It´s just too DBZish for me that peole get stronger then before and get the next big thing in the same arc. It just isn´t OPish.
It worked well in RK though, which is also OP-ish. (or rather, OP is RK-ish since Oda learned the tricks of the trade at RK) Basically Lucchi gets the big, long-stretched fight, but remember he isn't really the one who needs to get his dream crushed. So Spandam will make a final stand and gets beaten rather quickly by Luffy. I think it could work.. but let's just see what Oda has in mind =)
-
Luffy! Get Blueno!!! Get him!!!! Now we have absolute proof that Spandam and Lucci are evil.
-
So Robin is cuffed with anti-DF cuffs that disable her powers of something?
-
Yep, it's a seastone lock.
-
Tehehe… Luffy vs Blueno, eh? Totally sweet.
Oda
Oh yeah, Spandam will burn in hell for what he did to Robin.
-
@Battle:
Yep, it's a seastone lock.
But wouldn't that drain all of her strength and make her fall to the floor?….
-
@jackvance:
But wouldn't that drain all of her strength and make her fall to the floor?….
Perhaps it's a matter of how much there is seastone. Like small cuffs doesn't do much but jam their powers.
-
@jackvance:
But wouldn't that drain all of her strength and make her fall to the floor?….
ah! here it is, the ultimate disapproval of the seastone lock theory. i'm pretty sure that as she was there on her own, she didn't need seastone lock. so now, she can somehow get away from here.
or maybe oda did just miss something. or maybe is it a middle power-seastone.
-

This situation is somewhat different. True that Spandam has some ambitions that need to be crushed. But Lucci somewhat still represents the real WG ambitions that need to be surpassed here and if it is just for the sake of getting Robin back. Dealing with Spandam is just dealing with a megalomaniac whacko. But dealing with Lucci means dealing with the most dangerous superhuman weapon the WG has. And by the long shot with everything that is still to come in One Piece that is a much more serious matter. To at least.
And if you look at it, for Luffy it´s not Spandam who´s responsible of Robin´s pain, it´s Lucci and the others. He would have no determined motivation to fight Spandam as Franky would have.
-
Yes! I finally read it (after yesterday's long waiting… >.<)!!!
And... man, I can't wait for the next chap!!! (Oda's doing it on purpose I'm sure...)
I'm really curious to know Robin's story (and yes, I actually see some resemblances with the AP story, but here Oda takes it into a whole different dimension...)
Spandam revealed himself finally as a power seeking bastard... grrr... but most of all... Lucchi just freaked me out O__O
Last thought... I had never predicted a Blueno vs Luffy battle... ahhh, can't wait for 383!!! :) -
But I agree that not everything about the Buster Call is at it appears at first sight. And I think that Nico Robins question fits in nicely with it.
Let´s see it again, why would Aokiji give Spandam the authority to use the BC against the Strawhats? If we go by Aokiji´s own words then the group has become extra dangerous because of Nico Robin (the person he was chasing for 20 years and that comes from an island that already was targeted by a Buster Call).
So maybe and just maybe Nico Robin in combination with the Strawhats is a problem that Aokiji thinks can only be handled by Spandam if he uses a Buster Call. But now that Robin isn´t among the Strawhats anymore, the situation already changed. Maybe that´s why Spandam got so angry at Robin and punched her. Because if he would have confessed it openly that it is because of her then Lucci and the others would immediately know that now that Robin is been taken care off, Spandam has no right to use a Buster Call anymore.
I just think Robin meant to say "Why did he give YOU (Someone as crazy as you) the authority?" Which would also fit with Spandams response.
And Just a thought : Spandam might indeed betray the WG, since he keeps talking about himself getting the power of Pluton, and might have some ulterior motives. I just don't think CP9 takes him serious. But if he'd somehow manage to keep the means for reviving Pluton to himself, I don't neccesarily see CP9 - or Lucci at least, rebelling against him, for the sake of the WG; Spandam would have the power to overthrow the WG, and Lucci would still have an employer that gave him license to kill.
/end rambling thoughts.
-
Perhaps it's a matter of how much there is seastone. Like small cuffs doesn't do much but jam their powers.
Right, I don't see why not. There could be a low concentrate of seastone in the cuffs, just enough to thwart the DF ability, but not too drain the person altogether. I mean, she's been cleary able to stand & walk with them on, so it's probably not the hard stuff that's in Smoker's jutte or was in Crocodile's prison cell.
-
@The:

Huh? After reading this chapter you really think so? The reason why Lucci has took down everybody so far is because he saw them as enemies of the WG. So far Spandam isn´t an enemy of the WG but what Lucci directed at him I clearly understand as the message "As soon as you try to go against the WG you´ll be treated just as every other enemy of the WG".
Remember that Lucci and the others have been trained and brainwashed to believe and obey the WG´s views. Saying that he would follow a different employers is just as if you would say that terrorists would switch sides if their leaders get overthrown.
-
Yeah I know, But Lucci at least seems to really like killing people, as seen here and way back when he Shiganned Luffy, and Took down Nero…Perhaps side-effects due to his Df. The others might be pure Justice Freaks, But the way I see it, Lucci is a potential mass-murderer, who only works for the WG because they make his passion legal.
-
Sorry but I see that as a bit of a stretch. True that it appears that he is passionate about killing people but I don´t see that as reason enough to go against everything he´s made to believe in. And if he keeps with the WG there´ll still be plenty of guys to kill. Spandam might turn out to be another one of them. Just think about what he did to Nero.
-
noone has the direct dl???

-
Noo!! Why torrent? :( I can't dl those files…

Cool Chapter. Nothing major or totally revealing but a good glimpse at some of the characters' motives.
I think that interaction between Spandam and Lucci could end up being important. And I think Spandam will end up with a DF at the end of this arc. He just seems like the kind of person who, after getting the crap kicked out of him, would do something that extreme to get revenge.
I love Blueno after this chapter! He is just so calm and collected and I like how he is actually using his brains instead of being a stereotypical "big man" character with strength and nothing else. I agree with the idea that he'll rumble with Luffy a little bit and then use his Door powers to send him someplace else for the majority of the CP9 fights.
-
-
Thank goodness other people agree with me.
And I'll be seconding that agreement, he's turning out to be one of my favorite OP villians so far (barely behind Eneru right now, but just barely).
I liked this chapter quite a lot… the last few chapters bored me, but things seem to be picking up now.
-
Cover Story: Why does that man have a "3" topknot? 'Cause he's MR. 3.
-Spandam needs a punch to the face. NOW.
-Lucchi is awesome.
-I'm starting to like Blueno. Also, unlike the W7 CP9, he seems to be on somewhat friendly terms with the others (especially Fukuro)
-Luffy and Blueno facing down each other: "How long do you plan to go wild?" "Until I die." -
The only problem I have with the theory of Spandam eating a devils fruit is that wouldn't he need to know how to use it before fighting someone? I was always under the impression that Spandam was physically weak. His devils fruit ability he obtained may have to be more something like Crocadiles sand? Remember in the begining, when Luffy ate the Rubber fruit? He was still weak until he trained and came back later.
I remember Croc saying in the other arc that it was not that you had your abilities, but how you apply them. Or something along those lines…
-

Well, there's still plenty of time for him to find out about it. Possibly even during his fight with Lucchi. There's always lotsa talk on those occasions =)
@Solid:Thank you BF! :adore: is there any translation?!
There is one on page 4 of this thread.

….........Chapter 376 - Chapter 382
Looks like the Judicial Tower had some minor renovations done between chapters.
-
whoah… what a chapter!! thanks for all who upload it and thanks for the trans
anyway... that SPANDA!!! how DARE he punch Robin and then kicked her like that??!!! >=( ough... I'm so gonna kick him for THAT!!! grrroagrrgarg >=( and the way he betrayed the 'deal' ...ough... playing words, eh?? if only Robin didn't being cuffed with that sea stone................ >=(
and I really hope after Spandam break the promise, Robin will return to the Strawhats.... come on Robin.... please return.... >_<
on the other hand, Strawhats gang advance with the yagara and Luffy meet Blueno!! ooohhh..... can't wait to read next chapter...
and Lucci really scared me there..... shivers looking for blood?? oh dear.... -
the trans made up by kudou was really awesome. thanks dude.
-
My take on the matter: Spandam is too mad. He needs to be removed.. and someone will do it soon, probably an inside job. I think Oda's been dropping hints, like how Spandam talks about celebrating and Lucci goes "i don't care". In the near future… certain views will clash. This joker will be disposed off (NERO ANYONE?) and... Lucci is in charge.
-
ooh boy… we're about to see a REALLY pissed off robin really soon. it's gonna be fun!
awesome chapter and the spoiler altough extensive didn't do much, i don't remember getting this hyped when reading a chapter(with the translation) in a long time. Thanks ocean! And if Luffy DOES get thrown in Impel Down by a telleport he will unite with Franky and become a duo and Franky will join the Mugiwara (weeeeeeeee). But i don't think it'll happen since it would make this the largest arc ever and it would prolly last a year more.
-
@jackvance:
You mean just like Arlong, Crocodile and Eneru before him?
Aww, come on that was different and you know it. Those guys were indipendent megalomaniacs that didn´t work for the WG (nope Croc didn´t work for them he just has an agreement with it), while Spandam really is a member of the Government with his own superiors who actually brought him that far. And the sole fact that guys like Aokiji etc. or even all of CP9 are superior then him are fact enough for me that he´ll never be enough of serious threat to the world.
With a DF if logia type because that doesn´t take much time to figure out how to get invincible, he could put up something of a fight against Franky but he would never get the level of a main villain like Crocodile, Enel or even Lucci. Oda doesn´t build Lucci up to be (loved to) hated by everyone of us to just that he gets owned by the coffee spiller.
Dunno, I would find it weird if the guy who is just following orders is really the main villain.. I don't think that happens a lot in anime. I see him more as the one who gets the "big fight", but after that the real responsible, Spandam, will be dealt with by Luffy.
He´s not just following orders. From his point of view he is doing a good thing for justice with the power that is given to him. Following orders would be literally listening to everything your superiors say. By taking Cutty Flam Lucci has proven that he analyzes the scene first and then comes up with a proper way to deal with it instead of waiting for the boss´s OK.
If we go by that Aokiji and Smoker would also be just following orders. But does that mean that they don´t have their own method of serving? And I for one find it more interesting to have the main villain being not the leader but the first subordinate instead of the classic overused megalomaniac guy. Been there done that with Krieg, Arlong, Crocodile and Enel. Lucci is refreshing.
Well, there's still plenty of time for him to find out about it. Possibly even during his fight with Lucchi. There's always lotsa talk on those occasions =)
To find out what? So far nothing has been said that Spandam is responsible for Robins suffering. Lucci and the others might have come up with this themselves just as Lucci came up with the Cutty Flam thing. And even if, Luffy actually has no time to find anything out. Luffy has anounced his opponent and he has grown on the everyone as the big thing of this arc. Spandam has just grown to be the one who deserves payback by Franky.
-
after a night of hard drinking… guys, you made my morning XP... thanks!
-
What a mind-blowingly awesome chapter. I swear this arc has the most awesome villains in all of the series. Spandam turned from weak, clumsy funny bad guy to a sadistic, power-hungry freak in just this one chapter. Quite amazing. And Lucci's just a big ''wow'', right there. In a freaky way.
Oh, and I love Luffy.
''Until I die''.
Wonderful. This will be spectacular.
[/fanboy]
-
I'm kind of having a hard time hating Spandam:
1. Framing Tom is offset by the cofee thing and sexual harrasment.
2. Hitting Robin is mitigated by the fact that she's no innocent, and he looked DAMN funny doing it.
3. Stomping on Franky is mitigated by the fact that it seems to do nothing. It's like hating a clown – have you ever tried HATING a clown?
-
@Battle:
Looks like the Judicial Tower had some minor renovations done between chapters.
How could you possibly notice that?
Anyway, yeah, like I said in the spoiler thread it looks like whoever first predicted it was right about Luffy/Air Door. I'm guessing Luffy'll find a way to land a clean hit on Blueno, then Fukuro'll be like "whoa! enough power level to break a scouter!" (or Blueno recognizes Luffy's strength… whatever, I just wanted to bring in Fukuro 'cause I like him), then Blueno will boot him into an Air Door so he can deal with the weaker intruders first. But where would he be sent to?
-
It's like hating a clown – have you ever tried HATING a clown?
I despise every clown ever created. But that has very little to do with this.
-
Thank goodness other people agree with me.
Of course. Some villains just generate a "Meh" when you see them. Take Orochimaru from Naruto, or Aizen from Bleach, for example. Kinda generic; power-hungry and powerful/133t (and sometimes bishonen so they can get slashed ), but that's about it. Enel's kinda in this category, too.
Spandam and Arlong are the kind of villains that really makes you go, "What a jerk!" They are rare nowadays. Johan from Monster is also a very scary villain.
-

Yesss!! This is the reason I love OP so much, Oda has such a knack for making villains truly despicable. I'm so sick of "misunderstood" villains or mediocre ones that basically do the same as every other villain in history. Spandam's in that oh so rare category where you just wanna yell, "What a scumbag!!"
Edit: And I gotta say this chapter has probably cemented Spandam as my fav Villain in OP. Come on, a craven, weak ass gov't official who beats women and only fights when others are there to bail him out of trouble!? That just SCREAMS villainry right there.
-

Too bad Enel was kind of generic ;_; Loved his fruit and design.
Now what Spandam needs is a kick-ass DF power. Or a really, really good strategy/plan/usage of brains that can overwhelm the Mugiwara. His design is cool enough^^
