Revolution Controller
-
One handed?
How many years have I been using both?
YOU WILL NOT CHANGE MY LIFE, NINTENDO!
-
…..........................wow.
-
I don't know what to make of this right now. :hmm:
-
Wow. After 13 years of using two hands and being attached to a wire, this happens. I just don't know how to feel other than I hope games like Dead or Alive: Extreme Beach Volleyball never come to the Revolution.
-
pardon my confusion, but wha?
hmmm….so very underwhelmed
-
-
Interesting. I don't really like the idea of a remote-shaped-inspired kind of controller. But who knows? The analog and main controller a little distance apart is kind of neat though. I didn't read the articles, but is the analog be sold with the main controller or is it a seperate accessory like the DVD remote for the PS2?
-
Looks very innovative.
I hope it works well.. -
Wow…. I dont know what to said, Theirs apart of me that want to said WTF? but then the other one want to test it out. I got to read an artice about the possabaly of using it and the possabaly are endless.
-
The more I look at it, the more I feel like it is a bad move. It's about as grand of an idea as digital watches.
I never liked the idea of wireless controllers out of a fear that I, or someone playing on my console when I am not around, may just leave it lying around anywhere and it would get lost. Now Nintendo makes it worse by turning it into a remote, which alot of people already have 2 or 3 of them.
And it seems that people are skeptical or just outright hate the controller. I guess we'll just have to wait til next year to see it in action, unless Nintendo decides to push it back.
-
I can already see myself "losing the remote". Happens all the time. I guess in a way it makes playing video games look "less geeky", so to speak.
Of course, the conservative side of me says: "It's a bad OMEN! Run from the devil!"
-
lawl
Ugly as sin. The way they described its use seemed kinda interesting, so I can kinda see why they did it… but I still think it'll be terribly awkward. Not to mention the fact that I would be waving a remote around... people will laugh. :/
-
Heres an artice about the Possibilities of using the Controller from IGN, http://cube.ign.com/articles/651/651224p1.html
Image Playing an FPS with this. -
What the hell is wrong with people these days….?
Sony makes a boomerang control that looks totally stupid, but they manage to convince Nintendo that it's very efficient and innovative. So, not wanting to be left behind, they create a goddamn remote and convince themselves that it's fresh and innovative.
....I may get one of these consoles, but I do believe I'll be sticking with my PS2 for fighters.
-
hmmm~~ awesome XD!!
(not sarcasm)"What of Zelda or Mario? No word yet, but imagine swinging your sword in Zelda instead of pressing buttons"
oo~ lick please be so
-
@Cap'n:
…..........................wow.
I concur. I believe this will top the X-Box for worst controller.
-
I'm a big nintendo fan, and I have to say…... this looks exceptionally stupid. I think I'll just stick with my SNES.
-
Apparently EA is very excited about using this in their sports games.
-
wow that is one crazy looking controler.
WTF, come on.
one handed games, how the hell is that going to work. I have enought trouble with a two handed controler.
-
I must admit, even I said Whiskey Tango Foxtrot when I first saw it.
And then I watched the video. I read all the articles.
Dear god, do I ever love this controller.
The Nintendo Revolution is the ONLY console I am certain to buy now. X360 I'm going to wait on a price drop, and I still have seen nothing for the PS3 that I want. But the Revolution is taking a gamble on a unique input method.
The last time Nintendo took a gamble on a unique input method, the DS was made. I love the DS to death. I think I'll love this one just as much if not more.
I am buying a Revolution at launch. This will be the first time I will ever buy ANY console at launch. I want to play it that much.
-
I must admit, even I said Whiskey Tango Foxtrot when I first saw it.

seconds that
Seriously, anyone who's going 'wtf? omg this sux0rz to teh max, nintendo is retarded' needs to watch the video linked on penny arcade's forum link. The more I think about it, the more I want to see what kind of cool stuff they do with this. FPS's would own with that controller XD
-
Seems quite intriguing, but I would think doing these quick repetitive actions by swinging or waving the controller for extended periods of time would be quite tiring after a while. Sure maybe not for a 1 hour blast of Mario Party 39 or Mario Tennis, it does seem to have great potentinal there. But what say, an action adventure game or FPS, where you're constantly required to move & perform maneuvers for hours on end?
Dunno, it has potentinal in some areas, but I'm not completely sold.
-
check out a video of this bizzare thing- http://cube.ign.com/articles/651/651334p1.html
everyone is shocked after looking at this
by the way sony will probley change the look of the boomrang controler because everyone hated it. but dont expect nintendo to do the same -
looks cool, seems every system has something neat to it.
-
I wasn't going to buy any of the new consoles but this might change it. The controller is awesome, and probably fun as hell. Revolution is cheap, small and unique, perfect for sunday gaming. Now, though, only games are missing.
Edit: Oh, and the controller has class, truly elegant. I can't see how it's ugly.
-
ahaha!! thanks for the video XD!!
I love it to bits~really, looking at those ppl in the video waving their arms making big movements seems so fun, the most movement I do with the 2-hand controllers is tilting left or right when I really get into a racing game, I think it'll be a blast playing with my pals tilting altogether or ramming into each other : D!
<3<3<3can't wait for more info on this and hopefully a game demo
-
That is seriously…LAME.
A one-handed controller...what will they think of next?EDIT:Forget about what I said...this controller is freaking awesome.
-
hahaha, i like how alot of peoeples first reactions are "Omg, this controller sucks" The alot change their minds, "omg, this controller, kicks butt!" It, indeed looks fun, i think it would be fun as hell to play Zelda, swinging the controller around, i look stupid doing it, but damn, it be fun, kindof like Eyetoy.
-
After watching the video I have changed my opinion from underwhelmed to curious. While I think that my arm would get tired fast I do see that this could be really cool with some games.
I'm looking forward to trying it out. Could be really cool for some games. Sorry for doubting you Nintendo.
-
I'm just wondering how the hell Smash Brothers is going to feel on that thing. But I do have faith the controller will end up being fine, as I remember seeing the Gamecube controller and thinking it was wacky.
My one word reaction: Stunned. I just.. don't know what to think yet. That'll be a weird thing to have at those little demo stands in Wal-marts and such too.
-
It's unexpected, but cool. I trust Nintendo will pull this off.
-
I was wondering about Smash Bros. as well, seeing as Smash Bros. Online will be a launch game. But then I read that there will be 4 GCN conroller ports on the Revolution as well. Score.
-
oh god i think im in love<3
Nintendo has done it again me thinks and this great controller just cements my decision to buy a Revolution at Launch.
-
@The:

Oh, really? That'll make it better. Though thinking about it from last night to today I could imagine rolling and dodging and all wouldn't be too difficult if one of the Z-buttons on the analog add-on was used for guarding (assuming controls won't change too much). The other Z-button seems good for grabbing, then. What worries me are the X and Y buttons being all the way down at the bottom of the main piece, if they're still for jump; I'm a button-jumper in Smash, so, yeah. In the end, it feels like it could work out.. but I just want to test it out already.
-
As I talked with a friend about this last night (who even admitted this was the first nintendo console in ages to have him truly interested,) we came to the conclusion that Nintendo has picked the perfect time to take this gamble (and as cool as it is, it is most certainly a gamble.)
Look at the other offerings. The X360 is essentially just like the consoles of the current generation, only with better graphics. The Playstation 3 is attempting to offer nice, shiny bells and whistles at a price that they admit cannot be targeted towards households. Both believe the future of video games lies solely in HD-TV. Both will set you back half a grand when you get it.
Nintendo's gamble is this: people want new things. They don't just want shinier games, they want shiny new gameplay, things they've never done before.
Before the revolution, any gaming experience could be emulated on a PC. However, with the revolution controller, Nintendo has gone beyond even the mouse and keyboard interface: an expandible controller that acts as a three-dimensional mouse.
So, essentially, while Microsoft is playing it safe and Sony has the arrogance to sell a console that does everything that the last generation does but shinier with a shiny high price, Nintendo's taking one big gamble and offering what truly is the spirit of their company.
I am going to put most of my chips in Nintendo's pile. They may be insane, but at least they're trying something new.
-
I'll stick with my earlier opinion.
Efficient? Maybe. Ugly? Yes.
What a terrible-looking thing.
And the concept of swinging the remote to interact is NOTHING new. Look at the shyt sold on infomercials. Not to mention Luffy's punching game and the Dragon Quest game. There's nothing innovative about it really.
The most excited I got was when I realized it acts as a normal controller when you turn it sideways.
-
Ahh, yes, I forgot to touch on that.
Omae? How is it ugly? Compared to the seemingly un-usable PS3 boomerang (I think it looks uncomfortable and unplayable) and the mundane PS2-controller rip-off that is the X360, I think this is the best looking controller in ages.
And as for it being nothing new… neither were Wireless controllers when Nintendo came up with the Wavebird. The wavebird is still heralded as the first wireless controller, since it fixed all the problems of the past ones. The Analog stick on the N64 mostly fixed the problems of the joysticks of the '80s. It's regarded as the first analog stick.
Just like those so-called non-innovations, this will simply improve on all the motion sensing things in the past, making them not only workable, but truly fun.
-
The controller's (and Revolution's) design value sure beats the crap out of most of the home electronics' - not even to speak previous consol generations' design attempts.
N64 was butt-ugly and luckily you don't have to watch down at your hands as you play with Sony's pads. With the new generation they've actually put foundings on designing, and so far Nintendo has now done the most sleek job. 360 is really good too, at least when you compare it to the worst of the last generation's design, and that's X-Box. While PS3 is as dry as Sony always do (the best looking printer ever!) and the controller looks silly, it's still beyond the appearance of PS2.
You can actually display these to your living room without feeling an embarrassment!
P.S. On PSX there was an one-handed controller for RPGs… I think.
-
Wow….... thanks for the video! I totally changed my mind, it's awesome!
............Wait. No I didn't. In fact, I think I hate it more now. It's not "ugly," but I think it looks very stupid. Playing with one hand can't be very fun, and waving your arms isn't innovative at all. "Don't judge it until you've tried it." Well, that's what they said about the N64 and GC controllers.
-
Now that I get a better view and hear more about it, I think it sounds better. But still… this is pretty weird.
-
Omae? How is it ugly? Compared to the seemingly un-usable PS3 boomerang (I think it looks uncomfortable and unplayable) and the mundane PS2-controller rip-off that is the X360, I think this is the best looking controller in ages.
Because it's ugly. It doesn't look like a Nintendo product. It looks like something Starbucks-sipping Mac users salivate over, not something fun.
And as for it being nothing new… neither were Wireless controllers when Nintendo came up with the Wavebird.
???? Who said anything about the Wavebird?
The wavebird is still heralded as the first wireless controller, since it fixed all the problems of the past ones.
By whom?
The Analog stick on the N64 mostly fixed the problems of the joysticks of the '80s. It's regarded as the first analog stick.
It is? I never had any problems with any of my analog sticks. In fact now that I think about it, the 'nitty-gritty' 64 analog was one of the worst I can recall.
Nintendo billed it as something completely innovative and surrounded it with needless BS secrecy. It's a very old concept in a modern and ugly box. But I'm sure it can be used well. I'm just peeved at how Nintendo thinks they're coming up with truly unique ideas:rolleyes:
-
You didn't answer my question, and I don't see how it's not fun. I think the thing looks infinitely more fun than any of the other controllers; I LIKE the idea of being able to use the controller for more than just pushing buttons. That's the future of Video Gaming for me, not having an expensive TV playing the same games of this generation.
As for it being ugly, a few things. What's so ugly about Macs? I happen to find mac computers to be the sleekest of the rest (I still want an iBook to be a counterpart to my Windows/Linux desktop, partly because it's much better loooking than most other laptops around and I'll have a real video editing computer.)
Next, has there EVER been a Nintendo controller that looked as sleek as this? The NES controller (perhaps one of the inspirations) was a grey plastic rectangle. The SNES controller as a plastic rectangle with rounded edges. The N64 controller was criticized for it's shape (I still think it was perfect for what it needed for at the time.) The Gamecube controller was often compared to a Fisher Price toy. While once again a plastic rectangle, the Revolution controller has style that I don't see from the X360's or the PS3's. Same with the shape of the console. The Revolution will sit proudly next to my TV in all it's singlular glory while the eventual X360 and PS3 (yes, I plan to get all three, they will each have games I want this time) will sit stacked below my TV in a less than flattering position.
That said, I do have one complaint. Tech demos of what is possible are nice, Nintendo, but I, like many others, still want to see some actual games.
-
That "plastic rectangle" is what I like. Change isn't bad, unless it's not neccessary. The NES and SNES controls were awesome because even though they were stiff and small, you could still get a good grip when you wanted to, and all of the buttons had a good place (no super big "A" and then small "Q" buttons). You could lay back in bed and hit dial-a-combos, or get really into it and stand and tilt the thing wherever you wanted to. I don't see any comfort in this forced remote. Unless the Monkey Ball mascot gets his own party game.
-
Well…it does live up to its "Revolution" title.
-
that video makes this controller look like it'll be very fun XD
-
So Awsome, that words cant describe it.

To this point you have used 569 words to argue against a personal artistic opinion.
And I did answer your question. I know a lot of people want to jack-off to Mac designs but it's just not my style and Nintendo attempting to emulate that is really funny. XBox pulling a simillar stunt is also great.
Anyway, I gave you a couple solid reasons and I really don't think I should even have to justify what I personally think is ass-ugly when it comes to something as trivial as game remotes. End.
That was 92 words too many:laugh:
-
Fair enough, I argued opinion with opinion. Guess that doesn't work for you, eh.
Guess that means you'll be missing the future of gaming due to your placing appearance above fun. Too bad.
