I am SO uneasy about this. I mean, if they made the Chipmunks look like gangbangers, does that mean Yogi'll look like a pimp?
Edit:
Yogi's exploits take place in Jellystone Park, where he and Boo Boo get into good-natured mischief and must elude their nemesis, Ranger Smith.
Methinks this is not a good way to describe the good Ranger. I now have horrible ideas of the climax of the movie being Smith and Yogi fighting to the death over Jellystone ridge.
Wait a minute! That's the bear…
That's the bear that swipped my pic-a-nic basket. Bastard.

The Chipmunks were not gangbagers in the actual movie, just that first poster. The douchebag, non-Dave manager they had for a short while in the movie tried to make them such, but they hated it.
The Alvin movie turned out really good, and that's no more absurd than Yogi Bear. If one can be done, so can the other.
Hmmm, you know what? I don't care about the movies or their content. It's just starting to get dull hearing about 'this and that' being remade.
I'll have to second that. I'm particularly annoyed with Burton trying to remake a lot of classic films when his original plots have been tons better. Well, his Sleepy Hollow was great too, but there hasn't been a solid, definitive LA version of that for people to go to.
I think remaking is the "in" thing to do right now. Though, I can understand why you would want to. It's a great way to introduce old stories to new generations. But still, can't they come up with something original?
Why risk on originality when you can just milk money off nostalgia? At least, that's what the CEOs seem to be thinking.
sigh We don't need live-action Yogi Bear. WE DON'T NEED IT. Hanna Barbara cartoons are really not suited for live-action.
"hey, boo boo"….GTFO
note to film makers. Roger Rabbit was popular cause if was new and unique. Maybe all the writer went on strike, cause they couldn;t come up with any other ideas.
EDIT: waa. no pics. I wanna see how dumb yogi looks. is he gonna look abstract like when they did rocky and bulwinkle, or is he gonna look realistic like the chipmunks. I wanna see a hybrid. (imagines a real looking bear with those tiny little yogi legs) XD
At the end of the day. Neither Garfield movie changed my life what so ever, same with the Alvin and the Chipmunks film. I heavily doubt this will change anything either. If you just ignore it and not make a big deal out of it we'll all be fine.
Now the 300 sequel that's depressing!

I rather them milk a franchise (and make it good) then go for originality going for originality doesn't always pan out.
The problem with milking is most of the remakes aren't nearly as good as originals, and fans of the originals know this and bash it. I mean, how could a sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth or Around the World in 80 Days ever live up to the original in the eyes of those who saw the originals? I grew up with Journey but saw Around as an adult, and both were stunning. The idea of a remake just pisses me off.
One thing remakes do though is allow newbie writers some practice before they make their own films, though $100M should never be spent so a newbie can get some practice.

The problem with those people is that they fear change even if that actually betters the film

I for one don't mind remakes especially when it involves movies that should get remakes

Exactly, usually those are the ones that failed.
Still there are plenty of original movies in making. Remakes makes up just a small portion. It's just these remakes gets lots of more attention, that's all. I do not care about this remake though. I have never even heard of the original! But I have to admit there are quite few remakes I'm anticipating. The new Dune movie for example.
Couldnt they just re-release dvd's…

You've never heard of Yogi Bear?
Yogi the bear and bubu…
classic memories.....

Can't say I have. Should I had? At least the name doesn't say anything to me…

you dont have boomerang or basic cable?
Yoska doesn't live in America so a familiarity is probably lacking.
Um… she's kind of not even American, it may not have ever aired over there. :/
Location: Turku Åbo
Pfft, American as Apple pie.

I thought Yoska was a guy.
my friend had never seen the original get smart, and he still said the movie sucked. It's not just a nostalga/ people afraid of change thing. If the results were good, I wouldn't complain. There are remakes out there that are good. Off the top of my head, the Metroid series, or New Slayers season come to mind. Oh, and the New Toward the Terra series that aired last year was really good. Oh, and them there's the new spectacular spiderman cartoon.
Yolgi bear…never heard of it...sounds kinda lame tho
For all our foreign friends who aren't familiar with Hanna Barbara cartoons:
zEZJ_mLUNPc
General idea of the series. A bear steals picnic baskets, Boo-Boo is the happy little side kick, and the Ranger tries to stop them.
Good description except you spell Boo-Boo wrong.

Because originality is different, and different scares people… Scaring people means losing money...:ermm: What are these CEOs drinking?
Scooby-Doo and the Flintstones were... They just need to do the Jetsons...
Because originality is different, and different scares people…
Eventhough people may roll their eyes at CGI Yoda they aren't that phobic to originality.
Heya Boo-boo Get Me Another Pick-a-nik Basket
The ranger's not going to like that Yogi.

Well, that's what the entertainment industry thinks at some moments. This is just another thing that they believe will drive up sales and find it will backfire on them.
thank you media for fucking up my child hood, thank you.
WTF NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Please, stop killing my childhood, Hollywood!
Besides, I just can't see how this would work…
Only way I could see this work is if Yogi and Booboo are rabid, killer bears that can talk and walk on two legs. They lure in families with their sweet, innocent looks, tiny little legs and cheery personalities and invite them in to their caves where they brutally maul them to take their picnic baskets. The park covers these incidents to protect their reputation while the park ranger tries to kill 'em all the time
Now that would be awesome.
A Yogi Bear movie. Other than saveing Jellystone park from some jackass who wants to put some kind of Super Mall on the land. What kind of story can you get from that?
You know…i can see it being just that
The Jetsons Movie all over again
Ahahahahaha, no way.

They had a "The Jetsons" movie? … To Wikipedia!
EDIT: Nope, all they have had was some talking about it.
He meant the animated movie.
Every goddamn time I see this thread I mistakenly read it as, "Another cartoon icon passes away"

That will happen- .
If they do make a live action Jetsons, they need to make the year 2002, for the lulz.
Hopefully most get the reference.
EDIT: OH SNAP, WAIT!
Live-action future film
In May 2007, director Robert Rodriguez entered talks with Universal Studios and Warner Bros. to film a live action film adaptation of The Jetsons. He had also met with Universal Studios to direct a film adaptation of Land of the Lost. Rodriguez was uncertain which project he would pursue next, though the latest script draft for The Jetsons by Adam Goldberg was further along in development.[2]
I'm surprised Robert Rodriguez wanted to direct, then I remembered the Spy Kids movies. Apparently it's slanted for a 2010 release.
If this does well, I expect more Hanna-Barbera properties to go this route in the future. At least up until they use up the "A" franchises and are left with the lower-tier properties like Wally Gator.
I'm kind of curious how they're going to pull this off. It's not too hard to make small CGI rodents cute (a big reason why the later humanesque models weren't used), but how are they going to handle a 300 pound bipedal bear?

Well, there was Jetsons: The Movie, but it was animated
for all we know a Smurfs live action might gonna come out next
