The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (Wii)
-
yup… oracle game says hi :)
-
@Holy:
next thing u kno were just gonna have a zelda instea dof a link???
I honestly wouldn't mind that at all for a "something different".
-
There can never be a Zelda without a Link, similar to how there can never be a Link without a reference to Zelda…
thats just how I see it.
But yes I wouldnt mind having a switch up between Link and Zelda in one game. -

A fifteen minute gameplay demo with some new information…
nothing new from the gameplay, except maybe that Ghirahim actually takes your sword away if you dont get it away in time.Edit: Heres and interview with Anouma giving some more information about the game.
http://nintendocharged.com/2011/07/22/nintendo-power-interviews-eiji-aonuma-about-skyward-sword/Personally, I'm really getting pumped about Zelda's character… after seeing her development in ST I'm excited to see what they're going to do with an older Zelda :)
-
My thoughts on this are in parenthesis
- game is in the final stages (Hell Yeah!)
- Miyamoto working on the final touches (Um, Hell yeah again)
- localization going to be underway soon (….Hell yeah?)
- worked hard to increase the variety and richness of the gameplay over the last year (awesome, variety is always nice, as well as being rich)
- story is centered on the creation of the Master Sword (Old news is old, but still cool)
- Link sort-of forges it along the way (Obviously)
- Link and Zelda are great childhood friends in Skyloft (Still a neat idea, but old)
- Link must hunt down Zelda to save her from the land below Skyloft, which one one has visited before (Ancient News is ancient)
- Zelda is in no way a princess in the traditional sense (Nice to have a solid confirmation, though it was already strongly implied_
- Zelda is both sweet but has another strong side to her (FEMINISM HELL YEAH!)
- Link will use Zelda's harp to find something important (Okay?)
- playing the harp involves strums and the MotionPlus, and is based on the rhythm of strumming (Interesting, looking forward to details on this)
- quite a few fully orchestrated songs, but not all (So just like SMG? HELL YEAH!)
- the design choice with Lord Ghirahim was to make a villain opposite the style of Ganon (That's pretty cool. Explains alot)
- there most likely is not a relationship between Ghirahim and Vaati (This was just straw-grasping anyway, but nice that they aknowledged and shot down the theory)
- Skyward Sword comes before Ocarina of Time (DERP)
- the Triforce sort of takes on a different meaning and plays a different role in the story (Very interesting)
- Ganon will not appear in the game (CALLED IT)
- the guys at the bird race are part of a knight academy that Link is a part of (So it's not actually High School. That's neat I guess)
- these knights oversee the school, and [the people are] also his classmates (Cool beans)
- there's also a vast world above the clouds as well–little islands floating in the sky all over the place (A bit like WW. HELL YEAH)
- these places feature events and scenarios that play out (Um….no comment)
- the bird is used for travel and racing (NO Shit)
-
Are you the same poster in gamefaqs? Cause I read the same thing there lol
-
Why, indeed I am
-
Hey, I am a bit confused. How exactly does this take place before Orcnia Of Time, Link is older in this game and Zelda is a princess when she is a kid in that game also. I am a bit confused..
-
Farther in the past and different Link and Zelda.

Seems like troll… but if not then it's because almost every zelda stars a different link (with like 3-4 exceptions)

You've just hit upon what many in the Zelda fanbase call "Timeline Theory"…
I won't start the convoluted mess for you, but the vast majority of the games are not the same Zelda or Link, unless explicitly stated in the story (IE, Majora's Mask is the Same as OOT, Phantom Hourglass is the same as Wind Waker, Link's Awakening is the same as ALttP)
-
I'm not trying troll, I'm just getting fact's straight. So if this game and OOT have different zelda and links…how are they canon with eachother?
-
There are different Links And Zeldas across the Generations because there will ALWAYS be a Royal Family and the Great Hero (sometimes of Time)
What you're seeing in each game is a different Era in the same world. Whatever happens to create the Master Sword in this will explain how it got in the pedestal in Ocarina of Time.

The Skyward Sword turns into the master sword along with other elements that'll connect it that we will find out about.

Discovering continuity, an awkward period of self discovery that every young Zelda fan goes through.
Most fans gravitate towards the split time line theory, causing those who believe in the single time line theory to be scorned and ridiculed within their forum comunity's.On a serious note, GameTrailers.com has a pretty good video about the topic right here.

The reason is, because Aonuma revealed in an interview that the Split-Timeline Theory to be correct…
That would be like people still trying to Argue that Gold Roger is Luffy's father now, after Dragon was officially revealed to be so. Sure, you can theorize all you want, but word from the creator's mouth already said you're wrong...
-
Fun Fact: When you fight Ghirahim, if he catches your blade and you wait too long to get it out, he will steal your sword and start using it against you. Granted, it takes so long for him to steal it that I can't see it happening without you letting it, but its still pretty awesome

You wouldn't happen to have a link to that interview would you?
Because I happen to be part of the "No Continuity"camp myself. -

Here you go my friend!
-
Its been confirmed time and time again that there is a timeline. And yeah, split-timeline is confirmed
-
Much appreciated Rin, but I think I'll stick with no continuity.
It's better that way. -
I deny the timeline existing too, as I think it was probably made up to cater to the hardcore fans more than anything. I mean, Nintendo didn't really say anything about it until the fans started asking alot of questions.
Any similarities to the world I see is just easter eggs thrown in by the developers because when I look at Hyrule as a whole, the locations almost never add up.
-
I don't think the timeline is their primary concern, but it definitely exists. Events add up, and MIyamoto has even comfirmed the places of some things in the timeline
-
After Link Beat Ganon in the Adult Timeline of OOT, Ganon was felled but eventually was able to pull himself back and begin another reign of terror, so the gods Flooded Hyrule. Then you have Windwaker
The plot of OOT s directly referenced in Twilight Princess. After Young Link goes back in time to have his childhood at the end of OOT, he brings back evidence that Ganon is evil and he is locked up before he can rise to power. The flashback scene where they tried to banish him to another realm in Twilight Princess was the aftermath of that in OOT.
-
Time line theory is one of my fav elements of the Zelda franchise. People who insult the story of Zelda should read about the timeline and the complication and additions each game brings. Love it!

My impressions of the game this weekend at Comicon. Taken from another message board.
So I played allot of Zelda at Comicon this weekend. My thoughts:
-Sword fighting is so much more engaging. I battled one Moblin and everywhere I swung he would block, I tried to just rush through him to get through the demo but it was like he knew where I would be swinging. So I had to cool it a bit, and just watch him for a moment. All I can is it is it EXTREMELY satisfying FOR ME to try and hit around the enemies guard. I noticed others just doing waggle as if it were TP, for some enemies it worked cause they got lucky, and sometimes it didn't. The Majority of the people there were just waggling and I don't think they could really appreciate/comprehend what Nintendo was trying to do. I don't blame them since our minds have been trained for waggle after all.
What I really noticed is that it isn't so much of your arm in relation to the game, but where the remote is pointing. So as I fiddled with that I noticed if I point the remote up Link would hold it up and charge up, which was cool. I didn't have to raise the remote above my head, even though for some reason that felt better. When I moved my wrists alone I could see Link moving his wrists as well, as if I was in a light bulb screwing motion. With that being said sometimes I would swing and it would come out wrong. So I did some trial and error to really figure out how the remote and links arm were working together.
This is the best I can explain. Swing as frantic as you want (big swings or small), but make sure you follow through with a point of the wiimote. I noticed sometimes I would swing and link just did not do what I was expecting. For example I would swing with the remote facing forward, but if I added a bit of follow through pointing it in the direction of my swing Link's action would come out as expected.
What also makes it seem like it's no good from time is doing a vertical slash up or down. Most people naturally just rest their arm forward so that's why link always looks lame running in the videos with the sword leading the way. So from there some times I just could not make a good vertical slash up or down. What I found is that if the enemy guards in a way that you need to do a vertical slash, point the remote up or down first to get the sword ready for the motion. The vertical slash was unreliable when I was me trying to do it while the sword was pointing straight, left or right. So by initiating the sword in the center at a downward or upward starting point it made verticle strikes very reliable. Let me tell you though I had a blast fighting the stalfos, he would guard and I would have to uper cut him from a lower 45 degree angel and let me tell you it it just feels good!
Link would do a spin slash sometimes and I still don't know how it happened. I need to read some hands on impressions.
Flying felt just like Resort which was fine. Saw many people having trouble with it. Just don't turn too hard or over turn and it is very easy. Kind of like when as kids we first played racing games and tried turning out of a turn with another turn causing you to just go back and forth like crazy. Flying does feel great and there are allot of tiny little islands(WW sized I bet) I was told we could access in the final game. I just hope one day we can take the bird to the ground and fly over hyrul after a certain point.
That new bad guy replacing Ganon did some interesting things, but I felt his boss battle wasn't nearly as fun as the stalfos. But one thing I noticed I thought was great, he could yank the sword out of Links hand and throw it to the ground! I don't know about some of you, but WWs ability to pick up enemy weapons were great and things of the sort were lost in TP. Though this isn't that at all, it gives me hope that more elements like that will be appearing in the game. Also I whipped out a bomb and a moblin got afraid then ran for it! Hopefully those little enemy personalities from WW will be back in full force.
I did my best to rush through the temple as fast as possible before the 10 min time limit. Tried several times but only made it as far as the swinging vines. I noticed someone using the beetle to explore and noticed they were flying that thing all over the place. I'm so used to rushing through Zelda puzzles that I completely forgot how much potential the new item had. I saw this guy fly to near the top of the super high ceiling and saw little rooms that link could get up to. For the first time Since MM, I looked at a physical obstacle and could not even imagine how I was supposed to get there in the long run. Man it was exciting!

Guys guys! I just noticed there's a big burning ball in the sky?? What's going on here??
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
As far as the timeline stuff I basically ignore it.
It's better to think of the games as little retellings of the same basic concept over and over again, and just enjoy them as they are.
With the exception of a few examples like the direct sequels (Ocarina --> Majoras) and the undeniable connections between Wind Waker and the Ocarina/Majoras stuff.
-
Damn, this game looks awesome. I really regret selling my Wii.
The upgrade system for items and the various different weapons and tactics to beat bosses similar to MM were already mentioned, right?
-
Yes we knew about the upgrade system since E3 (probably before lol)
-
Yeah, I noticed people waggling too much in videos. I saw people complain that enemies like Ghirahim seemed too hard when in the actual game you'd have less hearts and probably no potions or fairies either, but the examples of people getting utterly wrecked by him all seemed to be with people waggling. Nintendo has said a few times that you won't win against hard enemies by just waggling, and yet people still ignore them and do it anyways. I really wish I could try for myself, but the combat really does seem like it would be a ton of fun and far more challenging and satisfying than in the past.

Some new information! :)

I wonder what "not all places are part of hyrule" means… is it bad that I'm thinking about Termina? -
Or Holodrum. I don't know why but that one always stuck with me.
Maybe twilight realm or the dark world from link to past. Would they count?
-
We do not damned need to go to Holodrum.
-
Or maybe they were just talking about that Siren world thing… crap, I completely forgot about that. Thats what it is isnt it.... :(
-
@Monkey:
We do not damned need to go to Holodrum.
For Skyward Sword, no we do not.
But perhaps in a future title we could travel to different countries. -
yea most video's i see the people seem to all suck big time.
how are all these video game reveiwers and what not so bad at games? i know i'm better than most of my friends by a long shot and yet even my friends look better playing than these guys
and i'm not just talking about zelda.
-
It's a long standing tradition that all video game demo footage to be played by worse at the convention.
-
Damn, this game looks awesome. I really regret selling my Wii.
But La Mulana was around the corner dude! one of the best Wii titles I ever played.. best title I played in years too
Meh. I kid. The Wii has alot of "droughts". It's kinda sad for such a high selling console. Anyway, Skywards Sword keeps looking better and better. My only gripe is the motion plus gimmick and how far it can possibly go. I like the sword fighting tactics and the gadget's use of the motion controls, but not the puzzle oriented ones.
-
I think I figured out who Ghirahim's "Voice Actor" is.
Voice Actor is in quotes due to the fact that there is no spoken dialogue. Just grunts, laughs, and other vocal sounds.
I think it's Ryusei Nakao.
Here are some of his roles.
http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/Ryusei-Nakao/
His singing.
And him acting out his most famous role.
Now, listen to the grunts in this video.
Doesn't it sound like Ryusei Nakao?
Yes, I am a total Voice Acting nerd.
-
That sure sounded like the trademark "Freeza chuckle" to me at 2:07. If he really is voiced by Nakao… OMG.

What's funnier is that Takashi Nagasako, who voiced Dodoria in Kai, voiced Ganondorf in OOT,SSBM,WW and, Four Swords Adventures.

You guy's know that you could just wait until later to purchase these games?
It's not like these games are only a limited release, cripes they're flagship Nintendo games for crying out loud. -
Every Zelda and Mario game I didn't get on release day has been spoiled for me just by general internet viewing. I don't wish for that to happen (Although I MIGHT put Mario away for Christmas)
-
I am worried about how much will be spoiled from just the two days after EU release

How can a Mario game have spoilers?
