Yes. It really starts to scare me that everyone strong either uses DF or has Haki. Yes, Haokushou(or how it was) is indeed rare and one in a million but for us, readers, it starts to get common. And that is uncool. And ordinary haki. I understand that you get powerful either by DF or by that haki(to be able to compete with Logias as I see). But I hope it will take the tones of "he is so brave and lively that his believe in himself gives him the power to suppress that cheat stuff, and he grew that power from seeds that everyone has himself" and not as everyone is just born and do not work for it.
Interesting-writing this made me feel easier about ordinary haki. Still I hope there would be no more bearers of Sovereign. I understand they all get where Luffy is going but it will feel crowded.
Agreed
@Cyan:
I don't see why we should pay any of those Gold Roger revelations of characterization any mind. He's dead.
I was gonna say that
Do you think that Kuma doesn't have white eyes back when he was a 'Tyrant' and later, Dragon and Ivankov? Because it's been bugging me all this time ever since he is reveal to be a nearly completed weapon for WG, I always thought he wears glasses, lol.
And maybe we get to see new faces from the Tenryuubito on the next chapter. If it's Roswalt, then it would be disappointing unless his wife will make an appearance.
I don't see why we should pay any of those Brook revelations of characterization any mind. He's dead.
I don't see why we should pay any of those Kuma revelations or characterization any mind. He's (Technically) dead.
I don't see why we should pay any of those ancient Kingdom revelations any mind. It's dead.
Guys…
What the hell are you doing?!!

Isn't the next volume Vol 28?
Either way, keep your comments to yourself and don't derail the topic.
Well im starting to consider the possibility that Sabo is being held as a slave, coz if they are brothers and he truly cares about ace… then he would have joined the war.. unless something was stopping him.
Well you also have to remember that Dragon wasn't there…
yea but ace is not dragon's son.
yes but Sabo might have been busy will other matters explaining why he didnt show up. Dragon probably is with Robin. I think Sabo is Kaidou.
I think Sabo is Kaidou.
That's impossible, since Kaidou defeated Moria more than 10 years ago (before he recruited Hogback and set up Thriller Bark).
Sabo is definitely Pwngoat. Just look at Pwngoat's face…
I think Sabo faked his death and, not long after, came across the Goat Goat Fruit. Then he ended up in the possession of Sengoku as a goat and he played (and is playing) the role so convincingly that Sengoku will be in for a shock when his own pet turns on the World Government...
Sabo, the Revolutionary Goat of Pwnage
Well, I finally caught up with you guys on One Piece so I decided to post my thoughts on this chapter. This was an awesome chapter. I wonder what happened to Ace and Dadan. I know one of them made it through but I just wanna see the results. I was mad at the Nobles for burning up the place. Wait, actually I forgot that it wasn't the Nobles that burnt the place but it was Captain Bluejam who set the fire. Sabo was right about people living at the dump and Stelly just made me angrier. Sabo escaping was awesome even though the Celestrial Dragons are headed his way. All in all, this was a great chapter. I'm really glad I read One Piece.
I'm really glad I read One Piece.
How is Sabo being Kaidou even possible.
Dunno where this shit is from. Ace would know about that and Luffy wouldn't think he only has one brother
Bad and good news:
First the good news:
We will get a colour spread for Chapter 588!! Yeah!!
But now the bad news:

One Piece will take a break on Issue 29
Only to clarify: Chapter 587 was in Issue 27
So, this means we won't get a chapter in two weeks?
Alright, no prob… I can handle it...
...

There will be a convoluted explanation involving Stefan and the Cerberus Fruit, I'm sure.

Sure everyone says that… till the week arrive. We will see spams thread of why the chpter hasn't arrive or how oda is such a lazy B!tX
Just going to add a random bit of commentary since I'm too dense atm to make a topic -
I think Oda's taking a lot more from Mark Twain than he is Akira Toriyama when it comes to Luffy's youth. Many a time in the past, Luffy and Ace have been compared to people from the novels of Twain like Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer, but I feel with Sabo we're really hitting home with the homage.
Sabo is Sawyer, while Ace is Finn. This analogy isn't absolute, as the personality traits and histories are spread between the three brothers, but Sabo's introduction is clearly modeled on Tom. Luffy might take a page from Joe Harper, who incidentally, became a pirate (along with Huck and Tom).
Sawyer was the ne'er-do-well from a well-to-do family who became a roughneck, while Huck was always the distant orphan. Widow Douglass fits in with Dandan, the lady who became a foster mother to the boys though they rarely considered things from her POV.
Sabo's disillusionment with society is really a Huck trait, but it's still a commonality with a Twain character.
What happens from here on out, who can say though…

Does this mean if we dissect this flashback for any hidden meanings Oda will shoot us?
So, we will have chapter 588 this week and no chapter the week after? Oh, well… I was hoping that the next break would only come when we returned to the present.
Anyway, I think chapter 588 will be the "big" chapter of this flashback. Either it will be the last full flashback chapter (with 589 being only the conclusion and the return to the present), or it will end with a hell of a cliffhanger that will define this little tale and leave us on the edge for next chapter...
Either way we will have a break just thereafter... =[
Sure everyone says that… till the week arrive. We will see spams thread of why the chpter hasn't arrive or how oda is such a lazy B!tX
Meh, the only time the breaks annoy me is when I forgot about it, expect to read a chapter at Thursday and find out I have to wait another chapter
Aside from that, I could wait one entire year for a chapter, as long as I and Oda get to live until the ending of One Piece
Just one question: does anyone know if we will get a colorspread this week? I remember reading it when the first (fake) spoilers got out for this chapter, but I'm not sure if that information was fake as well or not.
(If we get a colorspread, I hope it's the Luffy/Ace/Sabo as kids with Dadan, Dogra, Magra, Garp, Makino and Woop Slap, all partying together)
this flashback is so good but keeps making me wonder whats it going to teach luffy. in a way i hope sabo dies(even if hes the coolest kid charactor ever)
I think the world noble's a going to attack sabo's ship =/.
I think the world noble's a going to attack sabo's ship =/.
I think Bluejam will be the most likely to play villain. He's been involved with the flashback since the beginning and now swore vengeance against the nobles.
Something related to the tenryuubito will happen, but I think the big tragedy will be played by Bluejam.

I think this flashback is here to make us understand Luffy better, both in dreams and suffering. Ever since this saga began, "freedom" has been an important theme. Luffy said to Rayleigh that the Pirate King is the man with the most freedom. When Ace was going to his execution, he remembering a promise between him and Luffy that they'd sail the seas and live freely. In the flashback, Sabo searches for his own freedom.
I believe Sabo's "death" or, in case he doesn't die, the "tragedy" around him will have two purposes: one, it will remind us of Luffy's current suffering. Two, it will lead to that promise between him and Ace, and we will find Luffy's words that were cut when he was about to declare his ambitions a few chapters ago. Tragedy and hope, side by side.
I doubt if there's any tragedy it will affect Sabo directly. Luffy's never had to reflect on his past before Ace's execution, if he had to put Sabo's death behind him at an early age that erodes some of the emotional impact of Ace dying. I'm sure it's saddening, still, but eventually men stop crying. Whitebeard, for example, shed a tear and went on. Luffy's reaction seemed more appropriate to someone naiive to a close death.
I agree that Bluejam will be involved, he might even be redeemed since the footing has been laid with his coy attitude toward Ace and Luffy for a while, and their willingness to cooperate with him.
For a while I thought Sabo would die, since though he's a noble his ties to East Blue are stronger than Luffy and Ace's (who have histories that have world-impacting consequences) but Usopp had humble origins too, so.
I agree that Bluejam will be involved, he might even be redeemed since the footing has been laid with his coy attitude toward Ace and Luffy for a while, and their willingness to cooperate with him.
I think this is insightful, that Bluejam might do a face-turn in the coming chapters.
At the end of the chapter, one of the characters foreshadowed what could happen to Sabo when he blurted out that Sabo was in the way of the ceremony involving the Celestial Dragons. Surely Oda has something sinister planned for him. The chance of Sabo getting away scot-free is close to zero.
Also, could Luffy forget Sabo so easily? I can see a resounding yes being given but it was a toast of brotherhood among the three of them.
EDIT:
Just had a thought: Sabo + Mera Mera Fruit + Ace's Will = Electrics' Fanboy Fantasy*
;_; A man can hope.
*Is that apostrophe right on Electrics' <– it's possessive right?

I don't agree.
The biggest reason I think Sabo died (or at least appeared to die) is that Luffy declared Ace's his only brother "in this world".
To me, losing Sabo would only make Luffy and Ace closer to each other. The relentless efforts of Luffy toward saving Ace or any of his friends could very well be motivated by Sabo's death. Luffy would not want to see it again.
I'm not 100% sure Sabo will die. But I do think something tragic will happen in this flashback, and there must be some reason why Luffy didn't count Sabo as an existing brother recently.
The biggest reason I assume Luffy and Ace think Sabo died (or at least appeared to die) is that Luffy declared Ace's his only brother "in this world".
Fixed.

Considering Luffy doesn't actively bring up his past except in passing (he never bothered to share that he had a brother or grandfather with his crew) suggests to me he doesn't have a high tolerance for it.
Aside from the empirical hints Deicide offered in support of Sabo dying (where I offered the alternative) I don't see how Sabo's death could impact the plot. I've always accepted Luffy's tenacity as merely a part of his nature, not something developed during his childhood.
The deaths in prior OP flashbacks underlined some kind of theme that matured the character the arc was focused around, but Luffy is the ultimate immature character. Two deaths that achieve the same ends both in the present and past don't really make much sense to me, especially as this flashback, being unique already only really seems to be here to characterize Ace and develop Luffy's idyllic childhood, with cameos from present day players (Dragon, World Nobles). I don't think it's primarily a Luffy flashback, if anything it's an Ace flashback told by Luffy.
as others have said i think this flashback is luffy remembering that sabo is out there somewhere in the new world and gives luffy a dual goal of finding one piece and sabo.
luffy is simple minded and when ace and him decided to forget about sabo for the time being, i think luffy never thought about him again once he set out for sea.
what if Luffy goes to save Sabo and his parents tell him Luffy that Sabo's dead?
They probably wouldn't tell him he became a pirate….

You're fucking with us, right? He has mentioned him a bunch of times since Ace said that (as has Ace himself)! No way would he EVER forget about him, even for a second (as we were very plainly shown). Luffy may be dolt, but he's not completely brain-dead, nor is he heartless.
Ace's "forget Sabo for now" thing was just him being the big brother. Neither of them forgot him for a second… :getlost:
If Sabo doesn't die, I don't see the point in Luffy's flashback ! Until now, all he did in the flashback was what he decided, he was already free and careless, so unless Sabo dies (or maybe sacrifices himself), I don't see why all this period from his past would resurge now.

Just like people were asking, why was a Whale at the beginning of the Grand line

Yeah it think he will die as well or something will happen that Luffy will think that and Sabo never ever would say to them that he is alive… But I think he is dead.
Even if I know people starts to talk about the deep character of Sabo and Oda won't kill him cuz of that

Yeah I agree, Luffy will think both Ace and Sabo are dead, but then Ace shows up and says he will never die, then the flashback ends and we see someone saying Luffy name and Luffy turns around seeing Ace alive and wel !!!
ps. that would suck monkeyballs
