Yeah, old videos but still great, haha.
As for newer metal, I made a post with some songs from this decade last page. Here's a small batch of songs from this year, though. Choose your poison.

Quick list there. If you have any particular flavor in mind, I can put up a short list of stuff from this decade. I already featured my personal favorite of this decade in the last set, Hammers of Misfortune.

More Death poison please, love that flavor.

I can't say that I've heard much standout death metal this decade. I'll throw Portal's name back up again (formed before the decade, but only released one demo in the late 90s, the rest of their work is 00s). Runemagick is another that formed early but only started releasing later (first was in 98, I'll still count them, though). Cattle Decapitation is a name you might know. Their latest album is actually pretty damn good, though I can't say that about whatever preceded it. Acid Witch is great and their debut actually made its way onto my top 10 list last year. Japan's Coffins is always worth checking out and their latest album was also among my favorites from last year, though not as high up as Acid Witch.
To reiterate:
Portal
Runemagick (technically started releasing full albums in 98, but counting them anyways)
Cattle Decapitation (latest album only)
Acid Witch
CoffinsThose are what immediately come to mind.

Just saw this today, presenting Death metal rooster…

For some reason that made me think about this song:

There's a Metal Thread? how could I miss this one…
Anyone who likes Pirate Metal? :D I like Alestorm
Too bad I'm not into those "unpopular" bands and mostly know the big ones :( -
Nice thread I have to say but it's lacking something.

Kinda shame cause I love everything about Opeth now.

Too bad I'm not into those "unpopular" bands and mostly know the big ones :(This was one of the first threads I searched for when i joined AP, though you can imagine there aren't a lot of OP metal Fans.
If you're looking for stuff you never heard of just ask Wagomu, he knows about all sorts of music.
As for Pirate metal…I'll just say gimmick stuff it at the bottom of my metal list but if they're good then I don't mind. I will say that after the last chapter of OP,
I wanted to write a metal song called "I am Whitebeard". -
Pfft… Hatebeak did it first!
Probably.
But man the band has some of the best music videos ever.
[hide]gjbDXZYR4Pc
[/hide]I really like the new album. I didn't like it at first, tho. -
I think I was referring to the rooster then, seeing as Hatebeak has a parrot on vocals, haha.
Stam1na's okay, though I'm not a huge fan. I couldn't listen to them on a regular basis for sure. And that has to be the least sensical video I've seen, possibly even less sensical than this one:

Oh come on, that video was absurd. Most Stam1nas music videos make sense if you undestand the lyrics.
-
…first post here in this thread and I have to say...
Thrash Metal for the fucking win.
-
Oh come on, that video was absurd. Most Stam1nas music videos make sense if you undestand the lyrics.
If the lyrics are in another language and in the context of a metal song, then it's going to be difficult to pick up on the messages haha.
-
Most Stam1nas music videos make sense if you undestand the lyrics.
I don't usually care about lyrics of metal bands. To me it's pretty much one and the same what they are singing. Stam1na is probably one of the few exceptions. Even if they like word puns a little too much -_-.
Going a bit off topic I kinda wish more bands, not just metal bands, would write their songs in their mother language. Whatever that language might be. Too many Finnish bands takes the easy route of writing lyrics in English.
But I get that kind of policy, unless your mother language happens to be English, makes it harder to break into foreign markets. Especially if your mother language is a bit more exotic kind. Still, it's an unique resource left untapped by many bands.

I played Bloody Kisses as a sendoff. I'll miss his great voice.

Sorry to double post, but this is big news:
Ronnie James Dio, bringer of the horns and one of the fathers of metal as we know it, died earlier today. R.I.P. Dio. You were a Rainbow in the Dark

Well guys, say goodbye to a legend:
-
Yeah, I heard some metal guy died.
-
Show some respect. He helped shape the genre and culture and was a great guy to boot.

80sAll Metallica > all Nirvana@Cyan:
80s Metallica > 90s Metallica > 00s Metallica > The entire grunge scene >>>>>>>>>>> All Nirvana
Melvins>>>>>Nirvana>First two Metallica albums>Your average grunge band>>>Second two Metallica albums>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>All other Metallica
And:
Slayer>Megadeth>Anthrax>Metallica
-
Bullshit! Bullshit! Bullshit!
Metallica > Megadeth/Slayer > Anthrax >>>>>>>>>> Jonas Brothers > Nirvana
-
Metallica was good, emphasis on was.
Speaking of music, any bands from this decade that you guys like?
-
None. . .
-
-
@robbybedfart:
Elton John.
What you did there. I think I see it.
-
Metallica just kind of bores me nowadays past the first two albums, which were written mostly by Dave Mustaine anyways. Rust In Peace>Peace Sells… But Who's Buying?>Anything Metallica has done.
Slayer is just fantastic, especially Seasons in the Abyss, but you can't go wrong with any of their first five album.
Anthrax may have only two albums that I like, but I still love Spreading the Disease above anything Metallica has done.
And I still think that the German Trio top the big four.
And Nirvana gains enough points for bringing harsh music to the public's eye. When you listen to them outside of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" you see how awesome they really are.
zOtckJpsZb4
And 80s bands? Quite a few. I'll post back with my favorites.
-

Black Flag, Melvins, and (Arguably) the punk movement did what Kurt was trying to do, only better and without all the "I don't want to be used, but I'll sign with a label anyway!" bullshit.
-

Megadeth lover. cough
Wagomu: "What do you mean, I'm a Megadeth lover?! I don't have sex with Dave Mustaine!"
Rust In Peace>Peace Sells… But Who's Buying?>Anything Metallica has done.
I would definitely agree with you on that… but Ride the Lightning is pure gold and Rust in Peace (Favorite 'Deth album) did have that retarded... song? story? mole people?
Slayer is just fantastic, especially Seasons in the Abyss, but you can't go wrong with any of their first five album.
That's the reason why I'm a fan.
Anthrax may have only two albums that I like, but I still love Spreading the Disease
Yeah, same here.

No.

Wait, what?

I've heard Nirvana PLENTY of times when my friend was here.
I wasn't annoyed by them, but I just couldn't get into Kurt Cocaine.
And 80s bands? Quite a few. I'll post back with my favorites.
Holy fuck dude… don't.
I'm sure you're going to post about over 1000+ bands of pure epicness.
-
The 80s had awesome punk. Minutemen, Dead Kennedys, Circle Jerks, Hüsker Dü, Fugazi, Agent Orange, Descendents, Minor Threat, Misfits, Meat Puppets, Moss Icon, Flipper and more.
There was also a lot of awesome metal coming out with thriving thrash scenes and the beginning of death metal. Dio, Cletic Frost, Exodus, Destruction, Sodom, Kreator, Flotsam & Jetsam, Venom, Mercyful Fate, Napalm Death, Repulsion, Possessed, Death, Morbid Angel, Autopsy and more.
Hip-hop was off to a great start, too. Public Enemy, Boogie Down Productions, De La Soul, Jungle Brothers, A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, Run D.M.C., KMD and more (I haven't delved into hip-hop as much yet).
There were many other great bands, too. Galaxie 500, Red House Painters, Godflesh, Einstürzende Neubauten, the Pixies, Big Black, Ruins and much, much more (I'm stopping myself now because this is taking a long time to post).
Most of all, though…
Sonic Youth

I agree, but I still love Nirvana way over Metallica. Now, what does that say about Black Flag and the Melvins for me? An indescribably amount of love there.
Megadeth lover. cough
Wagomu: "What do you mean, I'm a Megadeth lover?! I don't have sex with Dave Mustaine!"
Not yet, anyways!
Well, actually Dave Mustaine is an asshole and I hate him in many ways, but I love his music.
Wait, what?

Don't worry, it's way narrowed down to what was on the top of my head.

Love comes in different sizes and shapes.

I've heard almost about one or two songs from each artist/band.

@Cyan:
The most unoriginal guitar work I've ever heard came from him.
Great songwriting makes up for that. Nirvana is definitely not up to par with any of their influences, but they were always great fun whenever you needed to angst. If I get pissed off, Bleach is one of my go to records.

I need to release any excess angst/wangst, I listen to Leadbelly.
-
Lars is a prick yo.
Dave, he's just angry and I don't blame him.
'tallica kicked him out the band while they were across the nation from home.
Assholes.
Then James got the nerve to talk about "alcoholism".

It says a lot when you get kicked out of a band with that nickname for drinking.

That's one of the marks I have against Metallica. Undervaluing Jason Newstead and everything after And Justice for All… are up there, too.

Hey, Black Album and Garage Inc. are pretty good.

Bleach is a good album, and a good artbook.
It seems that the only recent bands I really like are Muse and Jack's Mannequin, and only Muse can even compete with older bands.

Black Album is boring, Garage Inc. doesn't o justice to any of the songs it covers.
Bleach is a good album, and a good artbook.

Bleach is my favorite album from the grunge four.
And I've actually found a great amount of artists I love from this era. You just need to dig a bit. Depending on what type of music you're looking for, though, I can find corresponding bands that at least I love.
