452: ''Destination Navy Headquarters - The Voyage to Save Ace''

They arent filler, they were in the manga dumbass but they added some more because in the manga they were just cover storys, two to each crewmember.
-
I'm sure Toei will just pull some tiny concept that wouldn't effect anything out of thier asses and then streeeetch it through the stories.
-
The title for episode 453 is "The Friends' Whereabouts! Weatheria Report and Cyborg Animals"

Not that big ;O, ill try a mind rape since i have a brain and i read other people posts before posting the same retarded thing again.

Episode was pretty average…very good animation, WAY too much stretched out content that took away a lot of the comedy of this chapter, like the never ending ringing of the Den-Den Mushi, but the chapter was not really that important so it being fillertastic was expected and not a big deal
Buggy was the saving grace of the episode, even though his content was spaced out a lot he still delivered..oh and this episode had some of the easiest-to-spot Pandaman I have ever seen, he was in the middle of the screen waving at one point, I mean c'mon people, make it difficult..
Overall Grade: C
-
Now what exactly is the story behind these? Are these done by Oda and do these stories of the crew show what hasnt been show in the manga outside of the covers?
In a Nutshell, the episodes featuring the wherebouts of the Straw Hats were all in the manga, including the episodes that are about to come out.
But just like with the Main plot with Luffy, Toei adds to them a bit to pad them out.
But there are still stupid people who are going "Adurr… Is Ebil Fillur!"

Animated Straw Hat Cover…
We still dont know if that will be the case.
In the preview we see an animal, but franky is still using the "gentleman suit" so it cant be from the cover. -

Nami's cover story is called "Nami's Weather Report" and Franky's first cover story is "Wild Cyborg Animals." Given the simliarities between the episode title and the cover story titles, I'd say it's safe to say the episode will be an adaptation of the cover stories.
EDIT: For more referencial fun, I thought I'd post a list of all the cover stories' titles. Beware, though, as the titles contain spoilers for…the cover stories.

I thought this was a funny episode! Not much happened like everyone has been saying, but it was still a good episode.
-
The only reason why I call them filler is because they're episodes that, for the most part, exist outside the story arc and are meant to pad out the anime so that it doesn't catch up to the source material.
However, what makes the Strawhat episodes different is that they, in a sense, are a part of the overall story because of them appearing as cover-stories in the manga (same with the Buggy and Coby/Helmeppo eps). So, I guess they aren't typical filler we normally see (Ice Hunter, Spa Island, etc.) that was made specifically to pad out the anime.
I guess a better word to describe the strawhat episodes would be "interludes" then, since apparently "filler" is a no-no in these here boards. Regardless, people probably call them filler because they are episodes that, were you not watch them, they would not affect the main plot line of the story; And, since the main plot of the story is Luffy on his way to Marineford and Ace's looming execution, these episodes are just minor deviations from the story at hand.
Like I said, interlude (or, in most peoples' cases, ebil fillur)…

According to the Chinese sub, the preview of ep. 453 says:
! The island Visalia is making slow progress heading to Grand Line.
So it may be clear that the following 4 episodes would be important in a sense.
-
whoa, was this really a deguchi episode? his art has become a ton better since his amazon lily debut but i suppose that's natural.
-
Fuck fuck fuck I wanted WB war
-
Pandaman And Buggy Ftw!!!
-
We still dont know if that will be the case.
In the preview we see an animal, but franky is still using the "gentleman suit" so it cant be from the cover.Extended version with Oda concent ofcourse…they cant make an episode with two covers.
-
New opening soon ?
-
New opening soon ?
Meh this one still covers the war so i doubt it but they have been changing openings frequently nowdays.
-
Fun episode, looking forward to the Strawhat's adventures.
-
Oh yeah, a very good thing about this episode: unlike the manga, it does a very good job of fleshing out the conflict between the big names and the generic prisoner drones. Seeing Croc and Mr. 1 actually prepare to fight was a nice touch.
-
Considering this episode/chapter was entirely exposition.
I think the anime did a good job of keeping it interesting.
I honestly don't see what more they could have done, there are only so many ways to flesh it out. -
This episode had that weird croc voice from a couple of months ago again.
-
I hope the filler expands more tham the cover stories, if it is I'd deal with waiting 2 months on world war beard 'cause i miss the crew
-

No this episodes Croc's voice was very similar when he was at Alabasta.
-
This episode had that weird croc voice from a couple of months ago again.
He sounded completely normal to me.
-
Jinbei was so kind and cool once again
-
LOL Buggy was awesome and Croc was a totally bad-ass once again
-
When Crocodile explained that marine current, the Marine Headquarters were painted in red. What the hell? But that was a mistake, right? It was white in the opening and in some episodes.

a mistake in the opening theme i'd say…. same with a certain character shown in the background with a white vestlike attire and black stripes , while here in this episode his attire is black with white stripes... as also seen in ep. 0

Looks like they'll be advancing the Covers after all, Nami was standing in a desert in the preview, so maybe it'll show them on the way back.. and I expect a new opening after the next 4 eps they usually switch it up every 50 episodes or so and it's been about that
-
27 episodes is almost 50 indeed.
-
if any one wants to watch it live
http://bssubs.net/live/Select Fuji TV from the drop-down menu
thanks for the link. bookmarked
overall an average episode

I hope they show how they return as well. I have noticed that Frank was reading the newspaper and he must have found about Ace's execution.
I am hoping Nami did not land into some kind of weird experiment site of weatharia. Previews can be deceiving.
-
I can see that this will hopefully be t6he best animate arc coming up .episode wasn't dragging and the bits with buggy and his followers were funny.
-
Looks like Takeo Ide is back on his best form for next week.
-
has anyone a preview link for 453?
-
Okay, I think I'd better post this again…
According to the Chinese sub, the preview of ep. 453 says "the island Visalia (Weatharia?) is making slow progress heading to Grand Line".
This would be a useful information.
has anyone a preview link for 453?
I found one. Although it's a Chinese website, it's easy to find the play button… :ninja:
(What? The preview starts automatically?)
http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/Gmpz1cftW-A/
YouTube is blocked in China so I'm not able to give you a U2B link, sorry. Fuck the GFW.

Because it IS filler. In any other series, when you take a picture that is drawn by the author and turn it into an episode with various new characters and interactions, it is called filler. Even if Oda were to write it himself, it'd still be filler. If 99% of an episode didn't happen in the manga, it's filler. Apparently One Piece has a special exception in place or I'm right.
The problem is with the fans, not the episodes themselves. If the fans don't understand that filler is needed to pace the whole thing properly so the actual arc doesn't get slugged down to a pathetic crawl, then they're the stupid ones. If kids don't accept that, then they're probably newbs to the whole thing trying to sound like they know what they're talking about.
-
After this episode I felt like giving a swift kick to the ass of whover is in charge of this. For crying out loud did we really need the endless ringing of a phone? I mean for crying out loud how much do you need to strech it? And if you do why with such idiotic thigns? One piece has so much more possibilities then some phone ringing for two minutes. Honstly I don't knwo if it's greed or laziness on part of the producers
Ok now that I am done with my bitchy rant I must say I am psyched about seeing more of the Strawhats! I can't wait to see how Nico Robin will well I belive it's against the rules to give mange spoilers so let's just stay with me being super exicted about seeing Nico Robin
-
srsly is this anime stuff, canon? I mean do they ask oda if its ok?
edit: thx goty

Nope if the artist writes it and has it animated it can be considered Cannon, The fact is he is limited by what he can draw week to week and if he is happy for others to animate - write something and he will include it or acknowledge it as cannon then it is cannon.
It is up to Oda to decide what is and what is not cannon and not purists, besides the cover stories it seems are there because he has an on going story to be told but not the time or resources to tell it.He may provide them with sketches and a general layout of what he wants and then approve the end product and utilise it which = cannon - if he does not approve of it and does not acknowledge it even to the point of later writing in the events of what happened alternative to the anime = non cannon.
-
why the fuck is it being discussed, it will be FILLERS. Why the hell Oda would like to put stuff in this shit. Srsly. Looks like ppl forgot about the previous SH episodes.
-
Straw Hats episodes?
Ah, you mean those decent ones.
-
Hey, in the WB pirates "spread", who were the 2 commanders to the direct left and right of Jozu? I couldn't tell :X

Gomazu and Pirosto.

Well, from a manga-only standpoint, the only information we know about the Strawhats whereabouts and dealings are strictly to those 2 cover-pages. I'm sure, as the manga progresses, Oda will explain how each SH managed to traverse back to Sabaody IN THE MANGA. So, whatever happens in the anime will probably be confined to those 2 covers for each strawhat, and the episode I'm sure will fill out according to what they have to work with. It's the exact same thing that happened with the episodes during AL/ID.
For instance, in the few pages we saw of Robin on TW, she was already in handcuffs (taken prisoner), and introduced to Tequila Wolf and what it was. The episode built around those few pages, created an exposition where she was found in the snow by a little girl, then eventually got arrested, and put in handcuffs (ending the episode almost exactly like it was introduced in the manga). And, almost every episode with every strawhat was like this (padding the few pages they had from the manga with extra filler).
This will, more than likely, happen with everyone else and each of their time in these new episodes will for the most part take place within the confines of their coverstories (and not outside of them). So, I can see episodes padded out to reflect:
- Nami being introduced to the Weather sciences of Weatheria
- how Usopp eventually got as fat as he did
- Franky escaping the cyborg animals and eventually coming into contact with Vegapunk's lab
- Zoro traversing Kuraigana's graveyard or whatever (with Perona closeby), until he meets the shadowy figure
- Hijinks regarding Chopper escaping the tribesmen, until he sees the war with them and the Birds
- Brook watching the Longarm tribe kidnapping women, and writing a song
- Hijinks with Sanji escaping the Okamas, and how he comes to terms with becoming one
- Robin escaping imprisonment, and eventually watching Tequila Wolf become liberated by the Revolutionaries (stated above)…
Like I said, the anime probably won't proceed any farther than that, since it's not stated in the manga yet how anyone got back (and it will, in due time).
