Damn, I really like Sabo now. Here's hoping he won't die.
Chapter 585 "Brothers' Cup" Discussion
-
-
I got a pretty good prediction how this fb could turn out (IF Sabo really dies in that fb):
Tenryu visits Goa kingdom. He has his child with him.
Tenryu kid talks trash about the trash mountain (so also about Ace + Luffy) in front of Sabo.
Sabo gets all mad and punches that kid.
Tenryu guards kill Sabo.
Boohoo whine whine
EndBut seriously, Sabo could rather join Luffy than Hancock or Jimbei.
His dream is to write a book about his adventures (just like "Brag Men", yeah!).
Well, at least he got a dream. Jimbei's dream is to throw his life away for anything.:getlost:
And Hancock's dream is to get rid of Nami + Robin IF she joins Luffy.:getlost:So lets hope Sabo joins. I already like him more than Hancock AND Jimbei TOGETHER! (well, at least Hancock is eally hot though )
damn, I would BUY such an awesome book. Maybe then my girlfriend finally loves OP too (she doesnt like Oda's drawing style:"most men are ugly in OP, most women are beautiful. But not normal ugly, outta-the-world-ugly!" - This is what she says everytime about Oda's style. She has no clue of true art!
-
Yes. I'm not doubting the awesome and bad-ass part. I just think that compared to the rest of the crew, Sabo is too normal, well. if Oda doesn't kill him off, he could end up eating a weird DF, weird enough to put him on par with the SH.
I don't know if him being too "normal" is really an issue, I mean, look at Zoro, Sanji, Nami, Usopp … all normal human beings. I know the crew now has a cyborg, a skeleton and a reindeer, but come on
-

Well, the first 5 members are normal people (physically that is, despite their quirks and all) and Robin is normal too. But somehow when I first knew that Franky is a cyborg I instantly knew he is a Straw Hat material, the same goes with Brooke. Sabo somehow doesn't strike me as one, of course thats just me.
But out of all the pre-requisites for a Straw Hat crew, I think one of the most important is that they need to have a comedy material. Everyone of them has it. And I can see it in Hancock the way she underestimates almost every other human being, but I dont really see it in Jimbei (of course unless Oda decides to use that "I will gladly give my life to catch that fish for dinner" and have Usopp says "THATS NOT SOMETHING WORTH UR LIFE!!!!"…or sumtin). Anyway, I don't exactly see a comedy material for Sabo as well, but we still got more chapters to come so... we'll see
-
The part where Luffy left his "treasure credit" paper signed is not only very cute and funny, but also shows his honest personality compared to Ace, who is running wild in a "Violence" T-shirt.
I wonder wha did Luffy exactly said, when they were screaming about their dreams. I mean, I know that he said that he is going to be a pirate king, whatsoever, but I think there is a significance why it was left out from this chapter. -
I think Luffy said the same words that he told Shanks.
-
Theory, I think Sabo will die and Ace Promises to Luffy he will NOT die…
Thats why it´s even more sad coz ace died THOUGH he Promised he wouldn´t in the WB war.
So we know why hed promised it to luffy.
-
Oda knows what everyone's thinking right now. Killing Sabo would be the most expected incident. But this is Oda; he probably had Sabo planned from the start (assuming he has always known the past of his main character Luffy), so not mentioning him was done purposely right? So Oda will show something more unexpected than expected, because that's how he works.
-
Okay apparently a vast majority of you haven't been paying attention to One Piece. Family is the most important thing in the One Piece universe. There isn't ANYTHING that Sabo could say or do that would keep him from being Luffy's brother at this point. Just take a look back at all the evidence for a moment:
Nami BETRAYS Luffy steals the Going Merry and tells him to get the hell out of her village and that she's used him for his money. Chapter 76-81. What does Luffy do? He beats Arlong freeing Nami, whom at this point he had only known for a couple of months, because she is FAMILY.
Luffy declared war on the world for Nico Robin. Again a woman that he only knew for a few months. Why? Because she is FAMILY.
He said multiple times during the war that he didn't care if he died as long as he saved his brother Ace. When part of Luffy's FAMILY is threatened he ALWAYS fights. Always.
If Sabo were alive Luffy and Ace would have already saved him. Now the only thing is finding out just how Sabo is eliminated from the story.
A question to all of the people that believe Sabo will betray his "most important brothers": Why would Sabo's 'betrayal' be something that makes Ace want to live?
QUOTED FOR TRUTH.
This post shouldn't be glossed over.
The current saga (from Sabaody to now) seems to revolve entirely around Luffy's dream and the theme of desiring freedom.
It started with Camie, the Flying Fish Riders and the slavery rings. Then it introduced the Tenryuubito, Hancock (a former slave to the tenryuubito), then Impel Down and then the war. The war seemed to be not related to the theme of freedom, but now we have this flashback in which we once again have the looming threat of the Tenryuubito and Sabo being forced to abandom his dreams and his brothers..
Other than the vast majority of non-Marines being there to rescue Ace, this is totally on the money. Bravo!

A wise cracking Oliver twist doesn't have the comedy appeal to be a SH but every SH not named Chopper,Brooke, and Franky does?
-
there have been some theories that these kinda panels of text is really somebody telling the story of luffy and his adventures and this is all one big flashback.
http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/576/16-17/
maybe sabo is the guy telling the story and he ended up going with luffy at some point and is now telling the story of the pirate king at some dive bar.
I don't believe that this is true, because if that would be the case then oda would have made it more visible in the past. The narrator of the series wouldn't have been so neutral all the way.
-
Someone mentioned the idea of Sabo faking his death, leaving the island and using an alias now. While of course noone can know ('cept Oda of course), if so, he might have kept Ace and Luffy in the dark as well, thinking it was the only way to protect them.
Then again, the next section is called "An obstacle impossible to overcome…" Doesn't sound good for poor Sabo.
-

Umm. Well. Yeah. Luffy with his naivety and stupidity. Zoro's pathetic sense of direction. Nami's greed. Ussopp's cowardice and lies. Sanji's nature towards girl (and his rivalry to Zoro). And Robin's dark humor.
But anyway, Robin also didn't have that sort of humor early in the story and it was introduced by Oda later on. So no reason why Oda can't treat Sabo the same way. But if u think Sabo is funny, then to each his own I guess.
-
Sabo will be the insider that helps Luffy in the upcoming World Noble arc.
Vivi in Alabasta
Kokoro in Water 7/Enies Lobby
Lola in Thriller Bark
Rayleigh in Shaobody
Hancock in Impel DownExpect Sabo to join in on the list of unexpected allies to turn the tide
first Lola and crew were leaving Thriller Bark, and second wouldn't the governor/mayor of water 7 be a better example. You know what's his name Iceburg, and the whole gallay lay company.
also your forgetting mr. bison dude at Drum, Dalton. he is king there now right?
not sure if worth mentioning nami's hometown, they are just weak.but then lastly we have our lovable Duval.
@WhiteEagle:Sabo could be Law. Explains the save, just not the unacknowledgement of knowing Luffy when seeing him again
well first when i read this i thought hmm, maybe. he could have pretended he was dead and took up this alias, would put more weight on his saving and hiding it behind the "instinct, just felt like it" responce. Also would add more to the looking at Luffy's hat.
though it seems weird luffy wouldn't sort of say hey you look familiar, and also when they were fighting outside auction, Law (or sabo) wouldn't have been weirded out about Luffy's ability, and also surprised by his declaration of Pirate King. So as i was busy reading more responses i was thinking and more i thought it came to a resounding NOPE.

When asked by Rayleigh, Luffy talks about the Pirate King being the man with most freedom in the entire ocean.
http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/507/09/ANd then, as Ace was being carried to the execution, we had this small memory of his:
http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/549/18/
http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/549/19/"Live without regrets"
"Set out to the seas"
"Live our lives the way we want"
"Become freer than anyone"I have a feeling that this scene, and not the one with Ace saying he won't die like I once thought, will be the end of of this flashback (before a montage of Ace and Luffy growing up and going their separate ways). I think they're lamenting Sabo's fate, whatever it is.
that's kidn of what i've been arguing over in crewmate thread about Hancock. Right now it seems she is sort of trapped by her duty of princess and the treaty and not able to be free. i just don't see that as being left unresolved. Now if she does what Vivi did and CHOOSES to stay because she WANTS to, then I'm fine, but her staying out of Duty is not been how this manga has been shown. This manga is about chasing your dreams and doing what you WANT to do.
@ilman:That could mean sabo is ace's nakama because X in luffy's world could mean Friendship. maybe that's where luffy got the idea of using X on Alabasta.I'm guessing Ace wanna show that sabo meant something to him but couldn't do so without exposing sabo as an associate with a pirate.
Just like luffy hitting Coby.Didn't Zoro come up with that idea of putting an X below the bandage, for a double mark to decieve mr. 2?
-
Zoro came up with the idea of a double mark, but I think it was Luffy who wanted to use the "x" itself
-
So now, what did shanks do in Goa kingdom during a whole year.
-
Umm. Well. Yeah. Luffy with his naivety and stupidity. Zoro's pathetic sense of direction. Nami's greed. Ussopp's cowardice and lies. Sanji's nature towards girl (and his rivalry to Zoro). And Robin's dark humor.

More charming than funny. Greed and bad sense of direction ain't that funny though and Robin humor hardly comes into play.

Yes Oda can give Sabo some quirk, or jimbei a quirk, or jimbei a sad past, or jimbei a dream, or hancock a dream and so on.
But you won't get anywhere arguing with those things. You have to stick to the concrete stuff, all else is just your own speculation. So if listing say top 4 canidates and top qualities of strawhats we woudl ahve this.

Jimbei likely has a bad past involving Fishman Tiger, splitting up of Sunny pirates, and his inability to keep Fishman Island under control by himself. Different than other Warlords who can or likely do keep certain locales in check.
Franky didn't really have a good relationship with Luffy most of Enies Lobby.
-
So Sabo is… Oda ?
-
@mab:
luffy's mother is one fine lady ill say
pretty nice chapter but what could happen next
You mean here: http://mangastream.com/read/one_piece/67373685/17? That was Makino, not his mom.
-
Hm meh, tbh i'd prefer fishman island over this. Or even some moria.
The cover is funky though. -
@joekido:
Hey guys, something popped up in my head, Suppose that the Monkey family use to be rulers of Goa Kingdom long ago but were kicked out by the World Government unfairly to live a lowlife and is probebly why Dragon is at war with the WG? Pretty logical
I don't think so but I can see Dragon hating how the royals and nobles of Goa Kingdom treat the civilians and dump their trash on them just so they won't have it and that being on the first reasons he wanted to be a revolutionary.
-

alive (check)Jinbei had his fellow fishpeople slaughtered by random pirates and Tenryuubito who were passing by till WB showed up and said FI is his turf and his dream was to give his life to protect WB and Ace, which he failed to accomplish in every single way.
(Jinbei is nothing else than one of the people in OP who had their dream crushed and live a life that's worse than death, only he's one of the good guys and not a villain Luffy defeated - he's a living dead so to speak - tho most of those crushed-sprit guys came back with new ambition anyway [only Arlong and Captain Kuro are missing, ah, and Moria is actually dead]) -
Nah, why do you guys try to find a personal reason for Dragon to hate WG?
I think he just hates feudalism/how the WG rules the world/the secret history or has a progressive outlook. His thought was mention as dangerous. Seems like a bourgeois democratic revolutionary typical to me. -
I have a feeling the flashback is going to end within the next 2 chapters…
-
Well I think we will have 5 chapters
-
If Ace and Luffy decide to go and get Sabo back than yea 5 chapters
-
How ironic that the nobles create their segregated society "without trash", but it is their own doing that trashes up the world and creates the so-called human shaped trash they find in their midst.
Good on Sabo for hating where he comes from. It is a remarkable sacrifice that he makes to go back to this world that has no love for him, and all because of the love he has for his brothers. I am thoroughly enjoying this flashback, I simply love how Oda develops his characters and builds tension. I'm definitely growing attached to Sabo, hoping that he eventually realizes his dream to be a writer pirate. I do not know if he will become one of Luffy's crew, I feel he won't, but there's always a chance.
Can't wait to see where the story goes from here! It astonishes me that so many people complained about the flashback at first, but now almost everyone seems enthusiastic about it. -
Why has Dragon never french revolutioned the fuck out of Goa
-
When I saw the map of the Goa Kingdom, it reminded me of Final Fantasy 7 Map. Kind of similar to Mako city, I think…

Why has Dragon never french revolutioned the fuck out of Goa
He probably has been planning stuff out. Or he figures getting rid of the WG would make it easy to take out the Nobles

Yeah thought about that too. Looks really like that

16 characters of Lies. Edit: Wait you said he was dead first.
I was going to joke around but decided not to

Saturday 22.05.2010: For 1 day I'm the biggest FC Bayern fan.
Go Bayern! Win for Germany!!!Can't share your attitude, there should be a draw for 120min. and then Bayern should lose 5:0 on penalties - that'll kick Mr. Butt out of the World Cup discussions and Germany gets their 4th CL spot for 11/12!
-

And what seems easy about getting rid of the WG??
I'm sure that Dragon will have a personal reason for wanting to bring down the World Government and Nobles. Can't wait to find out what is driving him. Hopefully we'll get a glimpse of him during the flashback. Luffy's got to know who his dad is, right? -

I think we'll be learning personal stuff about Dragon (like who is lover or wife was/is, history about the Revolutionary Army) when Dragon and Luffy finally meet.
-

I don't care.
This is for Germany. We have to win to be above Italy in the 5-years-rating and get one spot more the international cups.
How bad would it be, if Bayern loses and 2011 one of a certain club will be 4th or the? Penality would be eneought but still they should winIf Hamburg or Wolfsburg wouldn't have lost against Fulhalm we wouldn't have this problems -.-
And btw Bayern is by far the playing the more attractive football compared to Inter, even if they are strong as hell. I'm always for german clubs international!
-
Ok, now i want them to lose no matter what. Less soccer addictions are healthy for every nation!
-
I liked the episode.
It's like one of those classic tales about rogue kids but with the hardcore and mad touch of the One Piece world.
And it's funny how Ace is a more interesting character as a 10 year child than as an adult.
-
If you still don't know, Sabo is Trafalgar Law… kidding!
-

Nah, he's actually the same as pre-captured Ace, even if we saw little of him.
-
Sabo is Mr. 11.
No, but seriously, this was a good chapter. I kinda expected Sabo to be a noble from the manner of his dress; we'll probably see him again in Mariejoie or even somewhere in the new world, since it seems to be implying he married a Heavenly Dragon Folk.
An idea would be that they're using some kind of device similar to a slave collar to mind control Sabo; In that case, he could've done something to Luffy to make him no longer acknowledge Sabo as a brother. Luffy's not a complete idiot, but I doubt he would realize if someone was being controlled by a device, especially if it was concealed.
Maybe in the lining of his hat?
As for Makino, I think she's Luffy's sister, or maybe his Aunt.
-
Sabo should be rly strong nowadays seeing that he nearly ties with ace when they both were 10…
so he should be rly famous in the NW..maybe he`s an elite fighter of the gorousei ^^ -
@Fire Fist:
As for Makino, I think she's Luffy's sister, or maybe his Aunt.
Nah, she just worked in the bar Luffy spent the first six years of his life in (The Shanks years) and raised him before Garp realized that a child should not be raised in a pub and that throwing him to bandits was safer.
-
when mankino would be luffy
s sister he wouldn
t have said that he has no family beside garp^^ -

Thanks for the clarification, I couldn't remember exactly what kind of relationship Luffy did or did not have with his dad.
It will be interesting to learn more about Dragon. I still hope he shows up at some point in this flashback. He did send Luffy off at Loguetown, even though Luffy didn't know it was him. -
If Sabo is alive I'd put a bet on him being part of the Revolutionary Army. They are the most mysterious group in the world e.g. Kuma and Ivankov. If Sabo wants Ace and Luffy to think he's dead, there's no better place to go.
-
I think I like the idea of Sabo, If still alive, being a noble who was mind controllled and having no memory of ace nor luffy. Unless he just gave himself in to protect Luffy and Ace
