We have to seperate ourselves from what our "Fan wants.' are and what is right infront of us in the Manga.

We will only be proved false when the story comes to a point that dismisses my possibilities or yours.
Well, from your posts, I gathered that you think this will be very soon, at least for Hancock.
Okay, let me gather everything we've just talked about and add to it. This may take a while but it will at least present my argument in a better way.
Expect a "Case against Boa Hancock joining the Straw Hats" post soon, and you can rip it apart any way you like.
-

Yes.
This second AL arc will prove me either right or wrong, depending on how it goes.
But please, no overly long posts. They're a pain to read.
-
You've made a fair few 'assumptions' as well dude
Your assumption.
Your assumption.
Your assumption, bordering on fan fic…..This paragraph sure put you in a shame.
Your argumentation about Perona is nothing more than assumption or random blabber mouth. Be logical.I still say that the chances of Perona joining SH is same as the chance of Osama bin Laden becoming Christian.

So wrong, even more wrong than the very theory on your signature!!
During the second Water 7 arc, I'm sure Luffy whooped Garp's ass, defeated AoKiji and then had a whole sex scenario with Robin back then off-panel!!
Gotta love those "off-panel" moments, no?
-

I still say that the chances of Perona joining SH is same as the chance of Osama bin Laden becoming Christian.
This puts you to shame. Bringing religion and a terrorist to a One Piece forum is hardly logical, is it man? It didn't even make me laugh….not one bit...
-
As long as It's not another kneejerk reaction post to that fact that Hancock is "too strong." to join..
Anyone else reaching the point where they rather just gun these three characters down for peace's sake?
-
@JERK:
ahahahahahahaha
Welcome to AGOG territory.
Wouldn't that just be referring to the current arc? None of us can really say what will happen after the flashback, so I don't see a problem with calling it that (for now) unless nothing of note happens on the island after the flashback.
-

Yah, people can call it the way the like. Post-war Arc. Luffy Flashback Arc. Nothing Important Happens Arc. You choose.
However, people usually call the arcs based on the location, with few exceptions, and the characters are in Amazon Lily right now, so I chose to call it that way. I don't see a problem there.
-
I think it's offically called the Post War Arc (Don't hold me to that). I think after the flashback is over..we'll get a better idea.

That's how it's being called in the wiki, but I don't think there's an official name to it.

That is.
You can't even know or thinking that the Perona and Osama case is same illogical.
It's must be hard for you to know all Perona joining bandwagon keep got treatment like this. Hahahahaha. -
I would love to know where the Perona supporters even got an idea that she might join. Was Zoro landing where she was REALLY that much of a springboard for all these lunatic theories.
At least for Hancock and Jinbei, there with Luffy and involved in the current story…
-

It was because 2 page cover story about the separation series.
I hope Old Wizard on Nami cover story or Beetle Guy that with Usopp joining instead. -

People were saying she was gonna join long before that. Every arc has some character that for some reason or another some people will support for joining, even if it makes little sense, like Kaku, Cammie, Margaret… Perona was one of these.
The problem with Perona is that, unlike many other such small characters, she returned to the story...

I can only imagine what it was like for Vivi…
Though, I honestly, honestly wouldn't be shocked if Oda made it so Perona just randomly joined after all of this.
Great thing about this debate is that's it's bascially made just go. "F it..i'll take whoever.." though my inner fan is cheering for Hancock...

Neither do I. Like I always say, every possibility remains until the story proves it false. I think Perona joining is very very unlikely, but not impossible. And while I hate Perona, I wouldn't dislike the decision, since Oda's pretty good at exploring his story, so he'd probably make me re-consider my dislike of the character by developing her.

If we come to this thread with an open mind, it's one of the best threads here. If not, it's the worse.

I got nothing against her character either, just the people who talk that her joining has been told in the stars.
And yes..I've enjoyed this thread alot and we've got some good ideas floating around. I remember coming into this thread "Hancock for Nakama 100%" and now i'm "Hancock has great chance of joining, but I can see it not happening just as well) so that means the thread does something. From all sides, Hancock, Jinbei, hell all this time has made even consider Perona a possibility. I've just personally exhausted all my facts and ideas, so everything else is just specualtion and guesstimation.

The Fate Of Amazon Lily and Hancock's Past
Okay, I'm basing the fate of Boa Hancock and Amazon Lily on this section of dialogue -
Nyon: You do nyot understand!
This island is protected by your "Seven Armed Seas" title.
In ages past, the Calm Belt acted as a powerful barrier
that kept us from externyal enyemies.
But no longer. With the nyew boating technology of the central men,
they have become able to reach us whenever they please.
Because you are a Seven Armed Sea,
the Kuja can live on piracy,
and they will nyot invade our isle.
But if you lose your title, and we return to a simple pillaging nyation, it will lead to catastrophe!!!
We have children and elderly on this island!!My interpretation of this
- Amazon Lily is protected by Boa Hancock's Shichibukai status
- Because of this title, the Kuja can live off piracy
- If Hancock loses her title, Amazon Lily will be a 'pillaging nation'
- If this happens, it may lead to a catastrophe
1. The World Government never find out about her betrayal and she remains a Shichibukai**. We know for sure, if Hancock leaves to become a Straw Hat, when she gets noticed, her Shichibukai title will be revoked.**
Hancock knows that if she leaves with Luffy, Amazon Lily could be attacked. This is not Straw Hat material. Hancock would be willingly putting her nation in jeopardy. We know that Luffy would only want good people in his crew - http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/3/01/
I think it is clear that Hancock cannot become a Straw Hat by this method.
Luffy also has friends on Amazon Lily which he would not allow to be hurt.2. Smoker and Sentoumaru may report Hancock to the Higher Ups
If this happens, the World Government have a choice. They could just ignore her betrayal and keep her on their side or they could do the most likely and revoke her Shichibukai status.
Consider the most likely. The Government will clearly be angered by Hancock's betrayal and the Kuja will now be a nation of piracy. They will probably send Marines across the Calm Belt to either -
-Arrest the citizens of Amazon Lily
-Attack Amazon Lily
-Try to arrest the citizens, but a battle will ensue
After the 'invasion' takes place, this will leave Hancock free from the responsibility of Shichibukai, but her nation in a grave state.
Will Hancock get up and leave to join Luffy?
Will there be post-battle responsibilities?
Will citizens be dead or in custody?
Will there be future attacks on Amazon Lily?We have to ask ourselves if Hancock will take her duties seriously like a good person and help protect her island and people or will she leave for Luffy? As a 'good guy' it is unlikely Oda would make Hancock leave, even if Luffy allowed it. But what if something in the story, such as a dream, or past opened up an opportunity for Hancock to leave her responsibilities behind, but still remain 'good'?
Where Is Luffy?
If option two where to happen, Luffy would most likely still be on Amazon Lily. If he wasn't, Hancock would be taking the role of the protagonist, which is unlikely ever to happen. If Hancock's past was to be explored
We are currently reading Luffy's flashback. We will have been without the main cast for over 70 chapters. Every new Nakama gets their past explored mixed in with the present arc. This would mean, after Luffy's flashback we will have a lengthy Amazon Lily arc and a flashback of Hancock's past. We have to ask ourselves if this would be too long for Oda to hold off the main story. Also, when have we ever had a new nakama explain their past over a four page flashback and then we revisit their past later on in the story. To me Hancock supporters could hope for these things -
- A two-four chapter flashback to Hancock's past
- Hancock to have a dream
- Her Shichibukai title to be revoked
- Amazon Lily's people to be protected in some way, shape or form
It seems unlikely as well that the other Straw Hats join Luffy at AL.
- They only have directions to SA
- They are unable to cross the Calm Belt
- They have no idea where Luffy is in the first place
unless Sanji is told by Ivankov and manages to find the rest of the crew
My main point - It seems impossible that all these things that are holding Hancock back can be resolved after Luffy's flashback. - Her Shichibukai status to be revoked
- Attack on Amazon Lily
- Her 'proper' flashback
- Her dream
- The future of Amazon Lily and it's people
To me, there are too many events and situations that have to happen for Hancock to join. There are too many things holding her back. Oda could simply just have Hancock as a recurring character and make the next nakama revolve around the next arc, he needs to move on!
Hancock fans - Hope for a big plot change after Luffy's flashback

All of this could be easily resolved in span of 15-20 chapters. We are currently on Chapter 583, and Luffy's flashback, we can guess will end in another chapter or two. That leaves us 15 chapters in which all of this can be resolved, if we go with the idea that we will have a SH reunion at Chapter 600 (That in itself is just fan speculation, but go with me here)
All of that could be wrapped up nicely in that time span, whether or not that will happen is the will of Oda, but it's quite possible that it could be done in time.
Of course, the SHs might get back together even sooner, so all of this is wild speculation, but I like to keep an open mind.
I like your arguments though and I'm glad you didn't do the kneejerk "Hancock is too strong." angle that many naysayers default to. I'd be more inclinced to agree with you had Hancock not of gotten so much spotlight in the recent arcs (Al, Start of ID, and MF).
-
The way I see it, it's not so complicated. Some other crewmates (Sanji and Franky) also were held back by responsibilities, but both were freed from it. Of course, the situation in Amazon Lily is direr, but all the challenges have grown bigger since then.
First, I don't think that Amazon Lily by itself is so vulnerable. This is a warrior nation in which even the most basic footsoldier seems to know how to use haki. Plus, it lies in the calm belt, and even the protection of marine battleships is 100% foolproof.
(I also wonder when did the marines get the tech to travel the Calm Belt, since Impel Down existed 22 years ago, and it lies within the Calm Belt. If they had the tech back then, then why didn't they attack AL before?)
Second, the marines are stretched thin. An age of chaos is beginning, with pirates' numbers growing. The scene in chapter 582 already shows the navy undermanned, having to send ships from one sea to another in order to try to keep order. With little things like the Blackbeard pirates, Strawhats, Yonkou, supernovas or the revolutionaries around, I wonder how much of a priority is Amazon Lily in the Marine's list of targets.
Third, Hancock supporters believe she may lose her title anyway. If that's the case, her presence in the island would endanger it even more. After an initial (failed) attack, the best Hancock could do is go away from AL, making it less of a priority to the government.
While I'm certain this answer won't satisfy most people around here, it's the best I can come up with for now. I'll wait the story to progress to see how things will unfold, but I think the "AL in danger" is not a restriction but an obstacle for Hancock to join, and in a story obstacles are created to be surpassed.
-
I believe they got the seastone coating for the ships hulls just recently. I can't remember exactly..but it was brought up sometime during SA or AL.
Should be on the wiki..

When Cobby explained the technology, it was never told when exactly it was developed. However, when writing my post, it came to me that Impel Down is a very old place (at least 22 years old, since that's when Shiki was imprisoned there. Despite that, Nyon's comment makes us think that the technology was developed only recently, so I wonder how did the marines maintain Impel Down back then.

Sea Hamsters..the first and last line of defense..

This isn't going to be an arc anymore then Duval was.
The flashback will take up the majority followed by the set up for the timeskip. -
@JERK:

-
So you're fully now confident that the timeskip will happen? Just curious, because I also am pretty sure it's coming.
I, on the other hand, don't think a timeskip is coming…
-
Ain't no TIME SKIP… Sign the DEATH PACT NOW!!
-
I like the theory that Luffy would age (due to Ivankov saying "you will lose ten years of your life") as opposed to an actual time-skip.
But maybe Oda could make the time-skip thing work… I don't know.
-
he better not skip time, i'd be pissed.
-
Or Maybe the Time-skip will come after the Flashback…
-
No Time Skippppppppp
-
I don't want it either, but if Oda happens to do it, then it'll be awesome, no matter what.
-
yeah your right he just better not end it soon cause ill be upset. Plus it better be a small time jump like maybe a month or two.
-
I want to see Gin some time. You know how he said he'd meet luffy on the grand line?
Oda had better not have forgotten.
-
yeah…..i think that they will go through an arc in which they must destroy the other rookie pirates.
-

There is really no need to actually navigate through the calm belt. They might have used the gates exclusively - using the Tarai currents.
Oh, and I am expecting a timeskip too. Something in the range of 3 to 6 months or even a year at max… enough time for everyone to actually train and power-up. Everyone returning after magically gaining new skills without actually spending time would be slightly disappointing.
-

^^^this is what i think
-
I wouldn't blame Oda for forgetting about Gin. He was a character around when One piece was at it's poop stage
-
You guys saying there will be a time skip should say how long you think it will be. Cuz two or three weeks is unimportant if that's just used to speed up the crew reuniting.
I don't think anything like a year plus is going to happen.
@Herackles:I wouldn't blame Oda for forgetting about Gin. He was a character around when One piece was at it's poop stage
He was a pretty good character for an arc that had a really good story as far as showing progress in the overall story.
Besides that how many characters that was technically a bad guy get away with beating the crap out of one of the good guys (and future crewmate) without losing.
-
Ain't no TIME SKIP… Sign the DEATH PACT NOW!!
I'll sign it with someone else, you will die by your retard love for Perona.
-

I'd take what you say a tad more seriously if you gave me a scrap of evidence placing Perona above ,say, Duval.
Consider it a challenge if you will.

the part when he pointed a gun at Zeff made me bored. Altogether the baratie wasn't very interesting. It sucks compared to everything after skypeia
-
Gin was a messy bit of characterization.
-
he was willing to die for two opposing forces in a short timespan. i remember being bored to tears with that arc. Sanji was a pyschopath back then too
-
I wouldn't blame Oda for forgetting about Gin. He was a character around when One piece was at it's poop stage
one piece was never in a poop stage
-
explain Don Krieg then
-
If Jinbei or Hancock don't join, I'm guessing either a fishman, or someone we haven't met yet. Although, I'm predicting that when the SH's reunite as a much more powerful crew, they'll find a few of the rookies defeated in the New World. I wonder if it's possible that they will want to join the SH's through some future interaction/relationship? Personally, I'd love it if Urouge joined. The guy reeks awesomeness. I know none of these pirates have a close relationship with the SH's, but just thinking about this prospect sounds incredibly interesting.
