Nice to see the list of the next Animation directors! What about the names of the episodes? is it out yet?
A Study of One Piece Animation

-
With the directors listed, I'm sure the titles will be out very shortly.
edit–
And also, I forgot. This is the Study of OP Animation thread, not the General RAW thread. Episode titles will definitely be posted there, not here. -
and 450? the preview look amazing. also i prefer Atsuko Kawamura for impel down finale instead of Megumi Yamashita.

Anyway, I love that Megumi Yamashita is doing the last episode of Impel Down. She did a really nice job on 440 with Bon Clay and Luffy..it was epic! I hope she does the same for the last episode!
And 450 is Yokoyama!
-
@Sean:
And 450 is Yokoyama!
WOW i never see such amazing animation from yokoyama the prewiew look amazing, great for him.

They might be strawhat separation eps.
I hope so. The Anime really needs to improve the pacing.
So looks like Yamashita's doing the last Impel Down episode… You know what? I approve. She's pretty decent, middle-of-the-ground type.
Same thing here. It was either her or Nakatani.
And Deguchi can do chapter 449. It had nothing of interest in it anyway.
I had a feeling Toshio was going to handle this chapter from before. Lot's of talking in it.
WOW i never see such amazing animation from yokoyama the prewiew look amazing, great for him.
The thanks should go to Naotoshi Shida. He is doing one of the scenes next week.
Yokoyama is still Yokoyama. Just with a little improvement lately.
Edit: Thinking about it. Wow, The next animation directors are Tate, Ishizuka, Shigefumi, Nakatani. All the average supervisors are out of the way for now.
-
Every single episode should be paced and animated as well as episode 449.
Why isn't One Piece's style consistent? This is a genuine question.

Why isn't One Piece's style consistent? This is a genuine question.
Because it costs money the producers don't have?
-
Because they can't afford great animators like Tomita on every episode, and it needs time and skill to do one scene like Luffy's Champion transformation.

Because we have roughly ten different animation teams, each of them with their own original style, trying to produce a twenty-four minute production with a budget of roughly one-hundred thousand dollars every week over a period of what will probably be in the neighborhood of twenty years. To expect consistency from that is madness.
-
Sadly… I thought that was the only good scene in the episode.
-
Fortunately…you're alone there.

$100,000? Really?
I thought it was much less than that! Maybe, $10,000 or something like that!

@Thousand:

So it's a monetary issue? Do the good animators request lots of money that the producers only shell out once a month or something? I'm not trying to be rude. I just want to know details so I can understand why I dislike the anime.
I understand that with time comes change but I would expect that there would be more consistency over the span of two episodes.
@Hiroy:Sadly… I thought that was the only good scene in the episode.
You sir, need to rewatch that masterpiece of an episode. Start to finish that was good shit.

It was decent, besides a few parts. No way a fantastic episode(not even consitant either as chracters looked different from scene to scene). Then agian, it's better than others.

The better you are the more money you get. This is how stuff works in this world.
If Toei doesn't pay well to the great animators they have, then the animators will go to another HQ studio.
Toei, can also recruit great animators from other studios, and they cost a little bit more. But so far in One Piece they did it a couple of times only.

lol @ Masterpiece. The episode was above average, That's all. The previous 2 episodes were 10x better animated.
Luffy's transformation and Jimbey's new attack in the water were great, the rest ranged from decent-meh.
-
@Sean:

No way! That's much too low. The exact amount is ten million yen per episode (maybe a little more or less depending if they want to splurge or not). There was a chart someone posted on /a/ a while back that I really wish I had saved that showed the average production costs per episode for a bunch of different series. Ten million yen was the average if I remember, though none of the other series were anywhere near One Piece's length. (Darker than Black, for instance, cost around fifteen million yen per episode, but it was only twenty-five episodes long)
Do the good animators request lots of money that the producers only shell out once a month or something?
Well, the way I understand it is that the more money they have, the more animators they can pull on board to make things prettier and stuff. A team of say, 50 (I'm making these numbers up), would be able to churn out something higher quality than a team of 20.

When I said the episode was a masterpiece, I said the episode was a masterpiece. I'm not just talking about the the animation. The pacing, the art, dialogue, music, etc. That was ALL better than usual. That episode was great.

Not really, more people doesn't necessarily mean better animation.
Great example. Naruto episode 133. The animation was mind blowing. And only 5 main animators worked in that episode. There are 5 more, but they just did second key animation. And most of that episode was done by Norio Matsumoto.
So, they need skilled animators and time. That's all. And of course, a great animation director.
More animators means less consistent episode.
Only few animators worked on each episode of the old animation style of One Piece. And that's the main reason it was very consistent.

I don't understand why people keep bringing up the other qualities of the show. We are talking about animation here, only.

I'm curious. Who did the transform scene? Luffy looked really thin an small until after he was done admiring the work. I seen that Luffy somewhere before… Or maybe I'm overthinking it.

Oh right. I was almost thinking of someone else for a sec there. Almost. That was my first guess though.

Hmm. It's good to see that Shimanuki is still involved with the series in some way, he's not bad.
Shingaki credited as the character designer is interesting too..personally, i like him better than Hisada.
-
I kinda feel sorry for Shimanuki. He's been with the series for quite a while, and isn't bad, yet has only done like, three episodes solo, and hasn't been active much since Post-Enies Lobby. Not to mention that his last episode, 406, wasn't all that great.

He have been working on One Piece since the beginning. His first work was in the first episode.
He have worked on 63 episodes so far. Mostly key animation.
He have also worked on some One Piece movies, like Movie 9.
And I agree with you guys, but I can't decide who he should replace if he comes back. Now all the Animation Directors of One Piece are ranging from Average-Great. Other than Yokoyama, although his last ep was great.
Toshio Deguchi is actually a good young animator, but his art needs a lot of improvement, I don't think he a good animation director, but I believe he is a good animator. It looks like he did some good key animation in other shows, like Birdy Mighty decode 2.
-
I need a recap on Shida. His one scene was so good, I'd rather watch that scene for 18 minutes than the rest of the episode.
-
So…...Strawhats filler. I guess Zoro and Brook will definitely get good animation this time.
453 = Takeo Ide = Nami + Franky
454 = Atsuko Kawamura = Sanji + Chopper
455 = ??? = Robin + Usopp
456 = ??? = Zoro + BrookThe next on the rota are: Tate, Shigefumi, Ishizuka, and Nakatani.

QFT.
That's exactly what I did.
Here is the recap:

I remember their episode looking pretty good last time.
Although there was no heavy duty animation needed. -
I remember their episode looking pretty good last time.
Although there was no heavy duty animation needed.Yeah, it was an okay episode. Although, I still can't forget the lifeless animation at the end of the episode.
Anyway, if you compare Zoro and Brook's episode to the rest of the Strawhat's episodes, then you will know what I really mean. It will be unfair if they didn't get a good AD this time.
-
Seriously. You didn't recognize him yet?
So the guy who animated the Champion Luffy scene also animated the Strawhat Docking scene? That explains EVERYTHING.

That guy must love his super robot series'.

459 Showdown at the Summit? That means chapter 550, 551 and 552 will be covered on 457 and 458. 1.5 chapter per episode. (Maybe)

lol
"hey Kenji, i know you did 450 and all but you draw such a great Zoro, care to cover his episode again?"
But the last Zoro/Brook episode was good.
I can't remember any problems with it.@Sean:

Impossible to say at this point. 1.5 per episode seems like a likely pace though.
-
Well, these are not confirmed…They might be fake. Since info comes on the 7th of each month, and this info came too early.
457 title says "The Yonkou Toshio Deguchi"
So yeah, they might be fake.
-
But the last Zoro/Brook episode was good.
I can't remember any problems with it.It wasn't bad..it's just that his Zoro is infamous for the giant forehead, like he's still drawing early days Zoro.
Still, Ide, Kawamura and Tate are certainly better, so they would be giving Zoro and Brook the shaft again.. -
I don't think so, there is still a possibility Brook and Zoro will get good animation.
Nakatani and Shingaki should be on the list. Awaiting real titles on the 7th of June.

You are right. The info won't be true, and might be a practical joke to those animetion directors.

Impel Down Sakuga

I liked Hasegawa's bit. Do you know if she did any work on other episodes, or no?
-
-
I loved the music, was quite good.
-
I liked Hasegawa's bit. Do you know if she did any work on other episodes, or no?
Sadly, no. And I was a bit sad such a great animator did a normal scene.
She did lot's of key animation in half of Gurren Lagan episodes.
Another One Piece realted work is Movie 10, she worked as an Assistant Animation Director.
WOW! THIS VIDEO IS AWESOME! If you have more One Piece videos, tell me!
Thanks, check out my channel for more.

455, "Robin and Usopp (tentative)"
Naoki TateNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
I absolutely despise how Tate draws Robin (or everyones faces). He got fluid animation but his art is just horrible, specially his facial art. Tate's episodes can be seen from the rest from miles away and he really uses radical style and animation and while some just absolutely worships him I dont really like it at all.
