@ponx:
No. Ace died because he lost his temper when Akainu insulted WB when he should've just ran like the old guy said. If anything, Luffy will probably blame his own weakness for not being able to deal with Akainu. His carefree nature has nothing to do with Ace's death
still hate this argument about ace's temper. that wasn't what killed him. he yes was getting beat in the short fight they had, but he was also still quite capable of staying alive. Aikanu was fully intent on those two Luffy and Ace. His sights were only those two, no one else. So lets say even if Luffy's body didn't shut down and stop working. How well did Jimbei get away safely with so many people helping slow down aikanu. hell even WB threw in a huge kick ass. But jimbei still almost died by getting punched.
Oda was planning on having Ace die, doesn't matter if he didn't stop to exchange blows for pride, he could have easily been killed like how jimbei took that blow but have ace die. But your right, Luffy's carefree nature has nothing to do with his death. Without Luffy, Ace would have died anyway, but for Oda's story telling he felt that having Ace die the way he did "protecting Luffy" would be more of an impact than if Ace died on scaffald or died running with Luffy.
@Uncle:
I wonder what the chances of Luffy and Nami having intersecting flashbacks is. Like, they wouldn't actually meet each other but it seems completely possible that Nami would steal Ace and Sabo's life savings while none of them are around. She was already going around doing that for a while.
Just felt like bringing it up because that's what the whole "savings" thing reminded me of and it would be interesting if they had intersecting flashbacks kinda like how Franky and Robin did.
And on an unrelated note, I fully feel that Luffy being > Zoro is fully justified now that I've seen this flashback. I always thought it sucks how Zoro works out all the time and yet will always be below Luffy but this flashback has shown me that Luffy did his fair share of ass breaking when he was a kid. He's done a whole lot more as a kid than Zoro ever has in his entire life. >_>
ha i did think of nami as well when i saw this, but not because they would meet up. i was thinking more along lines of wow Ace and Sabo's stash is way smaller than nami's was. They ahve a long ways to go.
But I wouldn't compare zoro and luffy that way. Luffy and zoro grew up with totally different training styles. Luffy's was a basic hands on survive if you can training, while zoro's was a stricted himself pushing to the limits training. If you ahve ever read buster keel you woudl have great comparison there. Think of the two main guys in that series when they go to the island with that lady. One guy is sent to survive in the jungle as his training for a week, while the other is sent to a waterfall to work on his training. They meet up in a week and duel and its an even match. Its just different training way, one doesn't make one better.
besides what do we know of zoro since he left the dojo? he somehow became famous enough that it seems everyone in the world knew of his name. even mihawk had heard his name before, cause he mentions you are famous enough to be called swordsmen but too weak to fight anything but my smallest blade. crocodile had tried recruiting him at one point too. Now what could he have all done in EAST BLUE to have earned such a huge recognition for his name in a bounty hunter. Now i'm not saying he was omg recognized like a shichibukai or a yonkou or admiral or anything. But his name was known, and that is a feat i would say in this world, especially for being from east blue since it is the WEAKEST as they say.
but who cares about any of the past and their training in the past or whatever in the PAST. At some point when Luffy and Zoro were together, lets say whiskey peak it might been around. Oda said they were EQUAL. I think he wanted that to stay that way whole series as well, but lets not get into that.
The fact is Oda said they were EQUAL in strength at whiskey peak. Or hell lets say it was at captain morgan arc. Fact is that is AFTER both their PASTS, thus Luffy's childhood trainng and Zoro's childhood training, no matter how different they are, the end result is the same. They are both the same strength.
