Ok I think I need to put my foot down on this issue and address a few key issues that have been surfacing in this project and offer some suggestions to get us back on track.
Issue #1 The project's focus
Ok don't take this the wrong way but the entire concept of dubbing a huge anime series such as One Piece seems a little unrealistic and almost impossible. The sheer amount of characters/episodes/sound effects/timing issues that is required makes this so.
As much as we LOVE to bash on 4Kids the one thing they got over us is experience. They know how to put stuff like this together in a reasonable amount of time. Not to mention they have the original sound effects and BGM (which they chose not to use) at their disposal. On the other hand we do not.
If you notice, many of the sound effects I use in my clips are really just substitutions I got from Sound Dogs and they lack the umph of the original. Not to mention it took me a considerable amount of time to dub the clips RIGHT. Take my Kuro clip for example. It has near perfect lip synch, the original music, sound effects timed perfectly and no subtitles. It took me a total of two hours to produce two minutes worth of footage. Now a typical episode is around twenty-four minutes long so going at my rate it would take me an entire day of straight mixing for one episode.
This is why I think as a new producer in this field is to just make short memorable clips from each episode. Face it as much as we love One Piece, there are a few times where the show's pacing kinda drags for a bit. By dubbing key scenes not only do we speed up the process but also we allow more characters to get in on the action and not get so careless since the entire workload is lessened. Another beifit is that we get certain characters introduced quicker. Sanji, Smoke ect. have to wait in the wings for quite a while so by just doing clips we can get them into the spotlight ASAP.
Issue #2: Actor Invatory
Aside from Zianchu's small list earlier in the thread, we don't know who is doing what in terms of the project. Many auditions are lost in the flow of posts and unfortunatly are not given the appropriate time of day and remain unheard until we are reminded about their efforts. In terms of auditions the master list is…
Brad Redfield: Zoro
Marcman 2020: Chu, Hachi, Usopp
G-Force: Sanji, Smoker, Kuro, Kurobi, Usopp?, Jango?, Mr. 3?, Crocodile?, Various Extras
Falcovsleon20: Doflamingo?, Don Krieg?
Buuhan1: Arlong, Chu
snow_yeti: Nami
Randy1031: Luffy
Now do you see a problem here? We don've have a complete set for ANY arcs right now. How can we expect to do an entire series if we can't find people for all the parts. Where's Coby, Meri, Kaya ect. Once again this brings us back to my clip suggestion. Doing clips allows us to bypass these shortcommings and do parts for characters we have. However, we need more people. Judging by the the posts on this thread it seems that a majority of people want me to be in this project which I have no objection to. However, I can only do so much. There are only so many voices I can use before my creative tank runs empty and I'm stuck. This is a team effort and we gotta work as a team to get this thing off the ground. I need your help as much as you need mine.
Issue #3: Arguments
If we spent just as much time aruging with one another as we do on this project then maybe we can get some more work done. I'm not going to go indepth of the subject but I will say that all your arguing is deraling the dub's progress and possibly scaring away potential voice actors.
Look I appologize if I sound a little harsh but this was something I had to get off my chest. Am I happy that I've been invited for a One Piece dub? Yes. Will I still help you guys out? Yes. Do I have any wishes of leaving in the future? No. Just take my suggestions for what they are. Because if this thing is gonna have to be done, then some changes are going to have to be made in the name of progress.
