@Justaway:
If you guys don't believe in God think of it like this:
Throughout history mankind has had a feeling that there is a powerful force guiding them.
Mankind has also subscribed to absolute dictatorship for most of human history as well, but we call that folly in the best of the world now.
People also haven't brushed their teeth until recently.
Even ancient tribes thoughout the world has had a feeling such as this, I mean hell they sacrifised people to please them. But, they never knew what force it is or was. Even the Japanese had gods of their own.
You're ignoring all the Buddhist nations and cultures who give no shits about gods whatsoever.
The Japanese haven't had theistic tendencies for ages. They lean toward ancestral/nature spirit beliefs, and most of that is just cultural artifact these days.
Now I ask you, who do you think gave mankind such a feeling?
Nobody, mankind just has natural urges to explain the unexplained regardless of any logical process being put in use. Because we hate mystery.
Plus the whole made in his image thing was probably made when people didn't know of other planets. Meaning of course they probably never knew of other life.
If you can submit that humanity will make up stuff about god's image, surely you can accept their ability to make up god?
