I'm particularly interested in the new versions Photoshop and Flash. The rest seems like garbage.
Also, I don't plan on buying or upgrading my older version to CS5, I plan on downloading it illegally.
Yes.
^hope you get caught
anyway. I think there are some decent improvements. Definitely better than the CS4 jump was. But I only have my paid-for-with-hard-work version of CS3 so I might consider getting up to date. The in-painting feature is really cool. I can see good things for people who do scans

This.
And why do you hope they get caught? Who has an extra grand or 2 laying around to afford this shit?
good for you I suppose

don't mind me. Just thinking of the people who worked hard to make this. Really don't mind me.
I feel bad for the people who worked hard to make it. Everyone will just download this.
I am one of those people though.
speaking of downloading a prerelease is already available on ******bay
We should talk about the actual program, which is more interesting than the obvious.
There's some really cool stuff, especially for amatuars and professionals as well.
here's the launch event
I would totally be willing to purchase this if it was $250, and If I had the money lying around, even $500. but $1000? Nay.
I'm too lazy to pirate it and change all those settings/files so it can't access the internet though, so I don't know why I'm bothering to gripe about it XD
depends on what you want.
The entire suite is a pretty penny that's for sure. But usually only educational institutions or professional company's buy it. Or people who can manage the bill.
I'm sure they'll release a version of CS5 photoshop that is relatively aimed more at general public purchase
1000 $? Its quite high price even though its a professional software but its still pretty damn high.
I would get it illegally without any remorse. Schools, institutions, universitys and other companys are the real income for Adobe from this product. Downloading it illegally for personal use should not bankrupt company, but seriosly asking 1000 $ from a product that has some nice and user-friendly updates is pretty much asking to get pirated…
I wonder how heavy this one would be .Photoshop CS4 seems to demand a whole lot resources from my machine… The rest of the stuff works smoothly though(Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, ect, ).
They're going through these programs incredibly fast.
I'd feel bad investing that much money into something that will just be outdated in another year.
Since I'm not professional, my PhotoShop Elements does the job.
And here I am with my CS3. Guess will have to skip CS4, and look for a torrent of fifth one.
After few months, at least.
CS5 already?
im still on PS7! O.o
depends on what you want.

No, Adobe doesn't do this. If you were to go into a store, like the Apple Store, Best Buy, Staples, Office Max, etc. you will only find one type of Adobe Suite, and it will be the original price. I've noticed in the Apple Store awhile back they were selling different programs from CS4 seperately and the whole suite, but at most other stores it was Suite only.
And Photoshop CS5 is $1000 by itself. Imagine the suite price @_@ They do make
their products to very high standards because they are meant for professional grade use, but it amazes that Adobe hasn't figured out that they could make A little extra money by packing Home versions of their software to sell to the general public at reasonable prices. I'm amazed they aren't trying to target the student or average person who uses PS and other adobe products (Flash especially) for personal and fun use, not professional.
They do have Photoshop Elements, but it's good enough for basic photo tweaking and thats it. There is enough shit like that out there. I used Paint Shop Pro before Photoshop (thinking PS was too hard to figure out), which is alot like Elements, and I'm not going back :D
I've been using CS XDDDDDDD way behind I would like to upgrade to the newer versions though.
you are absolutely right in that CS5 is for professional use. Because that's what it is intended for. you won't see a home use version of Maya (rendering program that many cg films use. I recommend Blender. It's fucking free!) anytime soon.
But I do agree with your plight, I suppose what I meant by "public version" was elements, but i've never really used it myself. Is it that bad?
Cause as you said, I do know that there are nice inexpensive programs out there as well designed more for public use.
Like I said, many adobe products are mean't for educational use or corporate use. Professional stuff.
I know if you are a student, you can get a discount. It's what I did for CS3. The nice things cost a lot.
I'd much rather have the entire suite than a fancy car. Shit is fucking nice.
The whole suite would be excellent as there are a lot of other programs I'd really like to use _
Yeah, pretty much nothing I use in Photoshop is in Photoshop Elements. It's mostly text effects, filters (some with stranger results then normal PS filters), warp, and photo edit things. It's really meant for home photo editing, which is about as much into graphic design as the normal person ever does. Which I'm sure Elements was there way of trying to address the casual/non professional users that were pirating their software, but those who do pirate are using it for artistic purposes, like digital painting or graphic design.
I forgot that I'm in college now and can get a discount. XDDD I Whenever I have money I'll have to hit up the apple store and see what I can get XD
Wow… just wow, I should get a job designing web bots that spam forums with stupid advertisements.
I'd love to pirate this but you know, Photoshop takes a lot of juice and I don't have the skills to seal the deal. Just so you know. :ninja:
for the techno savvy,
i'm using cs4 and it 'saps a lot of juice' from my outdated computer and occasionally
runs slow when other programs are going. is there an older version that i could use
that gives me more or less the same functionality but is easier on my pc?
i only use it for editing drawings, coloring them, and adjusting contrasts, anyways.
seems like i'd get by a lot easier with an older version..
good for you I suppose
don't mind me. Just thinking of the people who worked hard to make this. Really don't mind me.
They also happen to be flooding in cash and are completely aware that a lot of people will download their software illegally.
I hope you enjoy spending that whole monthly paycheck of yours on a program you can get for free under ten-fifteen minutes.
that's a fact huh? I must not read the sources you have.
But really though, you don't need to enlighten me
I don't really care how you justify it. It would be easier on all of us if you just say you don't give a fuck.
now bring something relevant to the discussion, besides "I'm not paying for this, LULZ"
brat
I require Photoshop for school, and therefore I am usually able to get it through my school for a DRASTICALLY reduced price.
Some of those options like image completion looked nice! I wana get my hands on it XD
I wonder if they'll do a Free Trial for it.
I also received mine at a great discount for going to school… And I might just preorder the new one before my semester is up. I still have to look at some more of the new features.
I mainly use dreamweaver, flash, and photoshop.
Rin, i added a free trail link in first post. signup there

No, really, if you find it wise to pay 1000$ for a SOFTWARE, professional or not, as well as prefer it over a brand new "fancy" car, I'm not sure I'm the one with the problem here, dude. Not meaning to offend, but there are greater things in life than Adobe's latest product.
And that is a fact, yes. In fact, I don't even need to be a spy, or have some striking intelligence, or have any hidden sources, it's just basic common sense stuff. If you were to release a good program, you make it overly priced and knowing the ways of the world, you wouldn't expect for your software to be pirated?? That's just not right, in my opinion.
You probably think that it's devilish of me to support piracy, but maybe you should accept the fact that not all the people in the world have money to buy software, but still need it.
And I am being relevant, how's that not relevant? I'm talking about Adobe and their new soon-to-be-released product. What do you want me to discuss? Oh, that remove-horse and fill background feature is OUT OF THIS WORLD!
I'll be able to judge this a lot more accurately when it comes out. Also, please don't be rude, as the goal of this thread is for everyone to share their views on things, am I not right?
But really though, you don't need to enlighten me
I don't really care how you justify it.
^you must not know how to read…
I honestly don't think it's devilish at all. I don't care what people do. Of course I know people will pirate it.
"Then why are you nagging meeeee?"
cause I don't like your smug attitude.
Keep fighting the power kid. Too bad for you that no one's figured out how to download a fancy car.

Well, I brought some arguments about why I think as I think, but since you decided to disregard them, that's fine.
downloading it. its over 12GB so will take time (more than 2 days with my net). will give feedback when its done
[hide] @MiniLuffy:
Well, I brought some arguments about why I think as I think
arguments?
there is none. You're gonna steal it and I don't like you.
I'd say it's pretty tough to argue against something as simple as that.
But i'm sure you'll probably victimize yourself some more.
now talk about that awesome fucking background fill feature or move on![/hide]
more on the content aware fill feature:
Clone brush in photoshop comes real handy while filling up spaces from pattern taken from different parts of images. Content aware is similar to clone brush with exception – it is fully automated. You don’t have to select pattern that should fill selected part of the image. It automatically fills the selected part with matching content and result is simply amazing.

Newer version has better and more precise edge detection. It can detect and identify complex borders in any image. For example, in the video below it is able to detect edges of cat hair
[hide]<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="
"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src=" " type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></object>[/hide]Puppet tool - It allows you to create a skeleton kind of shape by assigning joints on object and wrap image around it. This is being take from Adobe After Effects program
Wet paint – Newer CS5 will support wet paint color mixing that looks like actual paint mixing like we have in Corel painter software.
Brush Stroke effect - Besides the wet paint mixing, it promises brush stroke effect that looks almost real life, like we see on actual painting canvas
Patchmatch - It includes 3 tools: re-targeting, in-painting, and reshuffling. It allows you to patch and edit photos even better than clone brush.
and since top 5 lists are cool:
[hide]<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="
"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src=" " type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></object>[/hide]Hmm… I wonder if I should give it a try. I got CS4 like 2 months agoand still haven't put the time to learn about the program(got a book too). I should probally wait, but it would be good to be on date. Some of these features are pretty pimp.

I'm not sure if it will have EVERYTHING, as the last versions I played with were CS2 and CS3, but CS does everything I need it to do. The difference between CS and 7 that I noticed were some of the Layer effect thingys whatever they are called.. I'll turn my mac on later and figure out what they are exactly, I use them all the time yet don't remember what they're called >_>

so i should just pear down to PS CS?
thanks for the advice.
so about that student discount I was talking about.
You can get the packages 80% off.
Can't fucking beat that deal right there all you collage kids.
I'm on the last semester of the certificate i'm going for. Definately gonna preorder it.
You can get the master suite for 900$. That's EVERYTHING!
Now I know that price scares people. But that is literally a great deal right there. As opposed to 1,900$
That's not bad at all. I like the $500 packages but all the video editing stuff I really want out of the suite is in the $900 one DX
Well, if they still have this deal about this time next year, I may go for it.
usually student discounts are always available.
definitely take advantage of it if you're considering purchase
A software that has a lot of good algorithms doing stuff behind the curtains could be worth even more than 1000$.
Well I thought CS4 was worse than CS3 and overcomplicated things that could have been layed out much more simple- but hey, I'll give this a go.
Hopefully it won't turn out crap like Window's who've been going backwards ever since
XP. To the point where we get to Windows 7, and you CANNOT EVEN ARRANGE FILES any more.
D: Windows 7 bugs me to death. I have to say I friggen love Vista on my laptop, and have no plans on upgrading it. 7 is weird as hell.
finally i am running photoshop cs5 :D
How's it running? What's different?
just wait… i am testing it out... specially the new features.
they are a bit umm... difficult to locate lol.
but its running faster than cs3 (on my IBM T30, Pentium 4 1.80 GHz 512 mb ram, win xp)
loads faster, renders faster.
be right back with some screenshots

Vista over 7?
Such "First time for everything" is quite a shock, you know.
okay here goes.
firstly i didn't like its icon. with everyone making round icons.. this looks just UGLY. lol
here is the start screen if anyone is intrested
but the loading is pretty fast even on my old laptop so you dont see it for too long.
they added some new things to user interface
[hide]
[/hide]
the brush menu has more options now
u can set length, thickness, angle and lots of other settings for brushes
[hide]
[/hide]
anyway i went ahead to try out the new features and here are some results
i goggled this image and tried heal brush on it
[hide]
[/hide]
and this is what i got in umm.. 15 sec?
[hide]
[/hide]
note: i didn't use any clone or other tool just builtin heal brush with default settings
next i gave this pic a try
[hide]
[/hide]
first i removed the man and chair and site name from top (chair shadow left on purpose)
and i made VERY rough selections… VERY ROUGH
[hide]
[/hide]
next moved man to right
(movement via quick select, both the magic wand and quick select have improved a lot specially with smart radius)
[hide]
[/hide]
good so far?
in this pic
[hide]
[/hide]
i made a section in middle, deleted the outer part and then filled it
this is what i got
[hide]
[/hide]
but what if i tired it with umm building?
before:
[hide]
[/hide]
after: (i deleted on right side too buts its too perfect :P)
[hide]
[/hide]
Other than that i gave content based resize a shot too.
but its too heavy for my laptop (only thing)
works GOOD on Pc though (sorry no screen shots :( )
the last thing was image re-composition (Patchmatch) but i couldn't find it
and sadly there are no tuts so far ( heck i even download latest Lynda.com tutorial but it wasn't in it either :( )
final notes:
ask me if u have any questions etc
Random new changes and tools are interesting, but CS already did everything you could reasonably ask a graphics program to do when it comes to manipulating 2-D art. (Perfect for making comics.)
Hell. 3.0 was fantastic. It lacked some of the current features I wouldn't want to go without, but it was streamlined and solid.
The brush features look really nifty. I may give it a run later this year after learning the basics of CS4. No point of upgrading so quickly…
thanks for the pics fire-fist. looks great!
those fills are nifty.
I cannot wait to be able to crack into this one
