Yeah, that Broli clip was what I'm talking about.
See, I just think that the Faulconer tracks sound soulless, like the guy was just mashing on a synthesizer as much as he could to try to sound "Hawrdcorr" and it just had no heart. At least the American band music sounds like the people who made it put some effort into it, so even though both are completely out of place, The American rock music sounds marginally better to me than the Faulconer stuff.
the Kikuchi score blows them both away majorly though.
I never liked any of the scores, aside from Kai's, to be honest. Falconer's was bland (though I did enjoy one or two tunes, admittedly) and never shut up, the use of real bands was hilariously stupid (it felt like some dorky 14-year-old's AMV, and never fit what was going on onscreen), and Kikuchi's score was ridiculously cheesy, and often killed alot of the tension and drama in some scenes.
Wow, I am the minority. I like Bruce's music. SS3 Transformation and Kid Buu are my favorites. I also always got chills when Ginyu's Transformation played during a major villains death. I own Bruce's CD to the Buu saga.

How could you not like this?????

The best part starts at 0:34.
I think it fits well with the original DB, I can't stand the Dubbed Z music and the Kai score just doesn't do justice for me….I'm too old fashioned...
I like Bruce Faulconer music better, but the Japanese fits the show better. The show isn't about being all hardcore, and getting laid by Bulma and Chichi. Vegeta's death was done better with Japanese music, because it was complete silence. No, Dragonball Z is NOT the only Shounen based anime that does this. Pratically all Shounen anime does this. It adds drama.
Dragonball Z is like all the other fighting Shounen Jump anime. All of them have a protagonist who can somehow fight and has these supporting characters that can fight, fighting a primary villain and his/hers minions or comrades or whatever. There will be mentor like characters that train the main character like Master Roshi, Kakashi, Urahara, etc. There will be the characters that don't fight but are good friends with the main characters. All will have story arcs, or saga's. Most importantly all the ones I've seen all shout out their attack names.
Now I'm not saying the stuff I've mentioned above is a bad thing, the only thing that will make a fighting Shounen anime different is its plot.
Oooh I recall having an argument with someone about this once… My main beef with the DBZ music in the DUB was that WHOEVER was behind the musical direction wanted to make DBZ something akin to a Disney or Looney Tunes type by having the "music" match the actions on screen. A two step by the character would result in a two sound note on-screen which almost seemed as if the people dubbing DBZ were insulting the intelligence of the average anime fan during that time. And while the ORIGINAL DBZ tracks are not exactly oozing with style or epicness (and yes Cap'n SOME are downright cheesy) but they FIT the general feeling of the show. Since DBZ only took itself ever so seriously once in a blue moon, and when it did it showed.
I WILL say this thou: The Majin Buu Theme song was awesome... and this is coming from a person that HATES dubs in all forms.
51 seconds in... that track is epic.

Of Course! Theres also Android 18, Videl,Bulmas Mom…....

I see your problem. Erase the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v= part and leave the alphabet jumble by itself. That's what the youtube wrap is for.
Falconer did have a few good tracks, to his credit, they were just amidst a sea of shit. Like Kikuchi's, mostly… The Japanese BGM has a big plus over the dub BGM, though, not only in that it knew when to shut up, but because of the insert songs. Day of Destiny, Mind Power… Ki..., all great, great shit.

Its the law of Averages. He scored the show for more than 200 Episodes (someone else did the redubbed First two seasons)
In all that time, its statistically impossible that he never produced ANYTHING good… But then again, there are the exceptions to that law... like Uwe Boll...

This is true.
It's not that Falconer is a BAD composer. His work just doesn't belong in anything Dragonball.
I can't believe some people don't like Bruce's music… I thought it was excellent and fit the show great, except for the whole lack of silence. But that's not Bruce's or his music's fault. But I also like the Japanese music a whole lot too. Sometimes it's hard to decide which I like better.

Pretty good, I also love both of the background music's that played in Buu's death. Both made it epic.
Oooh? That's the Majin Buu track in Japanese? Always tought it came before for some reason. I likes… but man oh man the american Majin Buu theme is up there in epicness (especially the scene where he wtf pwns Mystic Gohan AND the World Extermination scene).

That is one of the many battle pieces Kikuchi composed for the Majin Boo arc. It's a nice piece, one of the many cool ones Kikuchi introduced during that last 91 episodes for the series.

Dunno if this was made specifically for it… but I don't recall hearing it before the Majin boo arc and damn it gives me goosebumps!

And I le gasp enjoy the FUNi dub over the original…..:getlost:

IIRC, that's from movie 7 ost.
The Dragonball franchise has so many dubs. Here is how I would classifie them.
Retro FUNimation/The Original Ocean Group
-Dragonball: Ep.1-13 Movies 1
-Dragonball Z: Ep.1-53(1-67) Movies 1-3
FUNimation
-Dragonball: Ep.1-153 Movies 2-4
-Dragonball Z: Ep.1-291 Movies 1-13 Special 1-2
-Dragonball GT: Ep.1-64 Specials 1-1
Ocean Group/Blue Waters
-Dragonball: Ep.1-153
-Dragonball Z: Ep.123-291
-Dragonball GT: Ep.1-64
Notes
-You'll end up getting 276 episodes if you follow the dub from the original Ocean Group to the 68 and onward to 291 of the FUNimation dub.
-Movies 1-3 of the original Ocean Group is uncut, and has the original music and the lines are accurate.
-FUNimations dub of DBZ episodes 68-291 are edited for Broadcast, and are uncut on the DVD's. Hercule, HFIL, are only there for the broadcast just like Zolo and Wyler. Samething applies for all of DB and DBGT aswell as the movies and specials.
-Nathan Johnson composed the music for the first 67 episodes of the FUNimation dub. Bruce Faulconer did the rest of the series.
-"A Grand Problem" isn't a real episode. It was there so people will get whats going on while FUNimation plays Dragonball GT starting with the 17th episode.
-Mark Menza composed the music for all of DBGT aswell as some of the DBZ movies.
Dunno if this was made specifically for it… but I don't recall hearing it before the Majin boo arc and damn it gives me goosebumps!

Yeah, that's from Movie 7. It's a really good piece and I loved hearing it when it was used in the series (both in the fight with Majin Boo and when Gokû was talking Gohan into defeating Cell).
Something I always thought was funny was that once I heard someone say that the Japanese BGM sounds like a band class at school made it. Sadly I think it's true. But hey, it doesn't mean it's bad.
i would love to see another one piece DBZ cross over when one piece is finished….. one not like cross epoch though
An interesting thing that Zach brought up in the OP Podcast where Mike and Julian of Daizenshuu EX guest appeared on is…why exactly haven't we seen a new movie? It's nuts that we've gone for so long without one.
Japanese BGM sounds dated (for when it was even) and is boring.
American BGM is ridiculously out of place, never shuts up, and is 80% garbage.
Quite frankly unless your name is Yoko Kanno I'm not really interested in your soundtrack.

Because the franchise ended and demand for new material filtered out after GT was a steaming turd.
They make enough money on the existing already paid for stuff, why shill out for new when you don't know the demand is specifically there and there's other, new products with multiple tie ins you can be focusing on (like One Piece.)
Besides. We got that new movie last year with Vegeta's little brother.

Considering all of the other products they shell out for the franchise, there's no denying that Dragon Ball's more or less a money making series.
As for the most recent animation, that's not a movie. It was a direct to DVD special that wasn't even available to everyone as you had to have a Jump subscription in Japan. All four DB movies and all thirteen DBZ movies were shown in theaters. It's also worth noting that even before Dr. Slump's second series, there were a few movies made even after the first had ended and Toriyama's focus was on Dragon Ball. Hell, Slump got a short aired right before One Piece movie 7 in Japanese theaters.

Guess it's safe to say we are at THAt stage in OP where planet destroyers and zomg srs bsns time will be running rampant…

I've got a bad felling that the way Gol D. Roger competed with WB was because some will of D./haki transformation thing that allowed him to access greater power, which luffy will gain too at the end of the series
if that happens all i say is Luffy better have the sickest looking transformation with one of the best fights of the series

I have a gut feeling that Gear 4 will be Gear Second combined with Haki infused attacks that will give off an aura. Nothing fancy… but animation wise it could be something wicked for his fights in the New World.

the haki emits from his steam which causes any DF users who breath it in not to be able to use their DF's

I don't mind planet destruction and srs bsns so long as our main character stays relatively the same old happy and carefree guy. He can get a bit more srs bsns on us with having to get stronger so shit like Ace's death doesn't happen again, but he'd better not be srs 24/7; he needs to still be fun.

Agree completely. But then again I doubt he'll be all SRS BSNS… look at how many friends Goku lost during DBZ and he rarely went into SRS BSNS mode. Granted he got them back... but sometimes even he wondered.

Indeed, but I'm kinda saying more that I still want the story to be fun and stuff as it has been, even if it has to deal with SRSBSNS and planet destroying stuff. I guess I should have said it more that way than just Luffy staying the same. For me, some of the quality and charm of Dragonball was lost when it made the shift into the Z era stuff. I don't want that kind of shift happening in OP even if there's no magic balls that can bring ppl back that go from needing an entire arc to gather in difficulty to "lol my infant child gathered them in 5 minutes" (a bit exaggerated there, but you get my point) and thus make another lame shift down in quality.

Ah, yes.
I always loled at how Trunks/Goten/Pan or the fodder characters made Dragonball collecting look so EASy when earlier in the series entire arcs were dedicated to searching the damn things.
Lol
You know, I actually was reading back on the original portion of the series. I don't know where people get the idea that Dragon Ball had everyone doing something that contributed, as the majority of it seems to be focused more on Goku and him outdoing everyone. o_O
Yamcha and Tenshinhan were pretty much unable to do anything by the time Goku went out against the Red Ribbon Army. Kuririn got stronger, but still the same as Yamcha and Tenshinhan. Chaozu never went anywhere except being killed by Great Demon King Piccolo and nearly being killed by Tao Pai Pai.

SIIIIIGH Can't even get a decent fan-scanlation for Dragon Ball, ever.
Dragonball is fuckin' doomed in the English speaking world. Sad, but true…
Even the fans fuck it up.

There's something funny in mentioning classiness when we're dealing with Launch and she's flipped a guy the bird and spat on his unconscious body.

Well, of course Tenshinhan was unable to do anything when Goku fought the Red Ribbon Army, considering how, y'know, he hadn't been introduced yet…

In his case, the Great Demon King Piccolo arc. He gets knocked around by Drum and then used as a hostage by Piccolo. His second match with Goku results in him losing his belt.
