The Johto Gym Leaders are laughably easy. Anyone who says Whitney was hard clearly had no strategy.

Well, I haven't played the game since I was a wee lad so I suspect it shouldn't be as hard these days.
I guess I didn't have any strategy then.
Hm, I've heard in the remakes that Whitney's Miltank's ''Stomp is the new Rollout'', since it has an especially high flinch rate, and you can't hide behind your Gastly because it's ability, Scrappy, allows it to hit ghosts.
I think Clair was the toughest Johto Gym Leader for me, since dragons are difficult to type-match against, are resistant to almost all of the elements, and Clair's Pokemon were still several levels higher even if you had done a decent job grinding up to that point.
And Chuck's Poliwrath caused some rage too, with it's Dynamic Punch confusing everyone.
Can't find the related thread, so I'll post here.
Does anyone know how to buy ethers in Pokemon Platinum? Either I'm completely blind or there aren't any available in the pokemarts.
I read somewhere there's an ALL NEW ONE announced recently and will be released on the next DS, with NEW Pokemon (it's a main entry)
You know what I kinda wish they would do is introduce a new Pokemon type for the next generation (like they in the 2nd generation with Dark and Steel) But then again with almost 500 pokemon and god knows how many moves to sift through (in addition to the new Pokemon and moves that will be in 5th gen.) it may not be feasible.

It's been way too long since I fought against Whitney in HG, so I can't confirm if her Miltank does have the Scrappy ability. But I can say that there are alternatives, such as catching a Machop or Heracross. By level 19, Heracross can have Brick Break and Machop can have Karate Chop (which has a high Critical Hit ratio) at their disposal.

Ice Beam solved all of my problems against all of her Dragonair. Kingdra, however, does require some working with since Ice attacks do normal damage to it.

By the time one reaches Chuck, they should have either a Ghost-type, a Kadabra/Alakazam or a Pidgeotto/Pidgeot with Wing Attack. Hell, even a nicely leveled Slowpoke can work. Or you can go for one of the best alternatives, aside from the Psychic-types mentioned, and raise a Crobat.
Speed? Check!
Power? Check!
Strong Wing Attack? Check! :D

Ether cannot be bought in the Pokemon games. You have to find them on the ground or have a Pokemon in your team with the Pickup ability find them.

Problem there. Dark and Steel were introduced for a reason - Psychic Pokemon were completely unbalanced in 1st Gen. Back then, all one needed to win was to have their team look like this:
Alakazam
Slowbro
Hypno
Exeggutor
Starmie
Mewtwo
With that team, you could pretty much tear through everything due to the versatility of moves Psychic-types could learn, as well as the fact that their Special stat would generally be incredibly high.
Dark-types were introduced to negate their attacks and Steel were introduced to make them resistant to them. Not only this, but it boosted strategy as Dark-types brought in a lot of annoyance-type attacks and Steel brought in defensive Pokemon and powerful attacks.
At this point, there is no need for additional types because of the balance being fine now. Everything has a weakness and can be beaten. Psychic's weakness back then were Bug and Ghost…despite there being no strong Bug attacks and the only Ghost attack, Lick, was just as weak and the only Ghost-type attack that took types into consideration.
Ice Beam solved all of my problems against all of her Dragonair. Kingdra, however, does require some working with since Ice attacks do normal damage to it.
Indeed. The way I finally beat her my first time through Gold was to catch a Poliwag, grind it up to a Poliwhirl, and then teach it Ice Punch. Probably what I'm going to do in Heart Gold too, only much earlier. Her Kingdra was still an issue, since neither ice nor electric were super-effective, if I recall. And then she had the gall not to give you the badge after all that!
I beat Whitney easily with my Ghastly. Curse is a wonderful, wonderful move when your party doesn't have the defense to stand up to Rollout.
In fact it was that Ghastly that inspired my love of Ghost pokemon. I always have a Gengar in my party.

Yeah, Electric does normal damage due to the Dragon-typing of Kingdra (which would normally make it resistant).
However, the good news is at least you do have a chance of getting an Extreme Speed Dratini. Even better news is that if you get one with bland stats, you can breed more with Extreme Speed due to it now being an Egg Move Dratini gained in HG/SS. :)
Got the shiny Pichu today. Such a strange ball it comes in. Anyone else got it?
Haven't gone to the GS across the street from me yet.
The ball it comes in is normal for most event Pokemon, as its to signify how special it is. That and the ball can't be obtained in the game normally. :p
Hell yeah! or a Pokemon console game on the next Wii console that let's you go to Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and this new region.
(It's done. Matsuda going on Pokemon Sunday with an announcement? Generation V is here.)
I guess the Pokemon can go up to Level 999? lol or going to 100 is going to be very difficult and costs you alot of time.lolwut?

my aunty goes to japan like every week so she used to bring me a gift or something like pokemon cards or a little trinket and she told me there was gonna be a new pokemon game so im just saying your guys are kinda late
That's cool. I got my Pichu from Gamestop. I'm so happy. The weird thing though, the personality was the same as me. It also happen to my friend and sisters.
I think all Gamestop Pichu will be Jolly nature.
There's another personalty thing. I suppose it's what the Pichu does….
lol i have alot of pokemon with jolly nature like eevee and ditto
@Usopp:
I think all Gamestop Pichu will be Jolly nature.
It is. The Pichu will always be male and Jolly. Its stats, however, are not predetermined.
That's true. Well my friends been leveling it up though. Well just one month and 11 days until the games come out.
Just ordered HeartGold for $24.99. Can't wait~
Where the hell didja order it for $25? o_O
Where the hell didja order it for $25? o_O
Amazon, my friend.
Price drop to $35 + $10 off any video game credit from preordering Tatsunoko vs. Capcom = love.
Oh well that explains everything then. :p
Just found out my best pal who loves Pokemon (he's the kinda guy who don't what you mutha's think!) isn't gonna get the game.
He was full of hype for it, now is getting inal Fantasty 197 (whatever) instead. Me = :(
That is truly sad. Ah well each their own. Any one getting Jirachi? I'm planing on going the day it comes out. Jirachi looks like a fun little guy.
ah this bring back memories, will they include Ash in silver cave(forgot the name of the cave)?
Yuh huh 8D 16 CHARACTERS

Yes, Red is still in Mt.Silver and you still battle him.
And you even get the old battle-whoosh graphics from Gold and Silver too!
I'm gonna preorder Heart Gold when I pick up the new Ace Attorney game. Two birds in one trip. Oh, and apparently the fifth generation has been announced.
I just hope we don't have another Magikarp/Feebas clone again. In fact, no clones would be nice.

On that note, I just hope we don't have anymore pokemon that evolve based on their beauty/coolness/whatever levels. God, that was annoying.
I agree with that.

There will be at least one electric rodent with circular cheek pouches.
Count on it.
I'm hoping for a Sandshrew evolution that gives it a new typing, maybe Steel. Or at least an adjusted moveset that actually gives it a decent offensive move within his natural type.
I wanna see a Qwilfish evolution.
Long forgotten since the 2nd generation, Qwilfish has drifted away into the distant past… nobody uses it, nobody wants it. Giving it a brand-spanking new awesome evolution will rekindle interest in this never-used Water/Poison species.

You know which pokemon has been forgotten? Dunsparce.
When was the last time you saw anyone with a Dunsparce or were ever trying to look for one?
On that note, yeah, I wanna see a Dunsparce evolution. Maybe it could be really surprising and be totally awesome.
I have a dunsparce on my team actually. Its ability to double the effect percentage of status inducing moves is pretty fun.
And it always DID seem like a first evolution.

I think Dunsparce is pretty awesome as is.
I see two new pokes have been 'revealed' apparently.
http://serebii.net/index2.shtml
not 100% confirmed tho
It looks real. The art and the pokemon on the right does look like the pokemon they showed on Pokemon Sunday(( What ever it's called but it's show that comes on every Sunday in Japan.)). But as you said it's not 100% confirm.
I'd love it if that were real. The little fox has an adorable Tom Nook-ish face.
They're real. Apparently Corocoro will reveal some more in the next issue, too.
Hrm. Looks like a pretty crazy jump in design. Might there be a middle evolution on that critter they're not showing?
Either way, it looks cool. But then, their starting premiere critter for the generation, of course they'll pick out a cool looking one.
I'm interested and want to follow this, but I also want to be as unspoiled as possible as to what things look like. I had a blast in the third gen when I didn't know what anything was or what was coming so I caught and trained everything. 4th Gen I had a clear idea of all the monsters and knew in advance what I wanted to get.
Pretty good start to the fifth generation. We could always use a new Dark type pokemon and the design looks pretty sweet.
As long as one of the starters bears a resemblance to a dinosaur, I'll be happy.
Funny how Sugimori's design has them with green eyes, yet the anime designers gave them blue eyes.
It was almost exactly as i guessed it would be (although i was thinking more of it being a grass type)
I guess that Zoroark will be a Dark/Fighting pokemon. Another thing i hope are evolutions of Heracross and Pinsir, almost at Rhampardos level.
So far, they're pure Dark. Though we'll see about that, as Lucario was thought to be a pure Fighting-type when it was unveiled.
Now that you mention it, when I first saw the silhouette of Zoroark, I actually thought it might be a Lucario evolution.
I Ihope they won't put HM's in the new game…
I'm tired of keeping one pokemon in my party just to be able to use most HM moves(like cut/rock smash etc.).
