Its better that they have a failure or two. That's… how the industry works. Not every book that comes out, even from a successful team, is popular or works, or is even a good idea. (As it is, its crazy that they basically got run in the biggest, highest selling, most prevelant highest standards most competitive shonen magazine, on their first try, at the age of 18.)
Plus, as EVERY CHARACTER BUT THEIR EDITOR has been saying "Comedy isn't their strong point." When the artist isn't having any fun drawing it and the writer is struggling and second guessing himself non stop... it's not a good fit. They would have been miserable and pigeon-holed and its for the best the wacky comedy didn't work out.
They needed this failure. They probably need another one after this too, or at least, a series that only runs for a short while. They can't just hit it big with a super sucessful 10 year running series right off the bat. Especially since that would pretty much mean the end of the series.
I hope this series runs longer than Death Note, and at least as long as Hikaru no Go did. I'm enjoying it a lot and I'd hate to see it over too quickly. Particularly since I do work in the comics industry and its just fascinating to see whats universal and what's different. (Hikaru No Go was 191 chapters, and pretty much doomed after Sai left... and Death Note was 110, btw.)
