And the Naruto, movie Rasengan finishers always crack me up. But it's too bad since I always get ticked off when I watch younger Naruto. Not only the story or side characters... his freaking character was just so much better back then!! So much more lively and I would find myself actually rooting for him!

Uzumaki is literally spiral, and Naruto comes from the name of a series of whirlpools on the Naruto Strait, later a name given to the spiral piece atop ramen. So yeah, spirals all around.

suburb production value, just a hint of originality, a simple, yet engaging
storyline, and a few very memorable characters (hell, most of the cast is likable).Oh and there's punch you in the face, crazy, giant robot action

I heard the same being said about Fairy Tail.
But the verdict was on the contrary - not worth it.Often it is asked why should we lower our expectations to enjoy the show.
Although, personally, I think it far more amusing to enjoy something for its pros rather than be frustrated about its cons.

This thread is on a roll of talking about the few manga and anime that I've read/ watched yay for being able to leave lurking!
I think what sets TTGL from other anime is its ability to separate the series into four different themes, it starts of as a very happy go lucky adventure with likeable characters and cheap gags. After the infamous episode 8 it switches to something a lot more angsty in nature, but still hugely enjoyable because at the end of the day the action and animation during this portion of the show is absolutely top notch and at this point you're attached to the characters. For the third quarter of the show it changes the plot entirely and begins the process of intense anime sci-fi with a touch of politics, before finishing the series off in the final quarter with a buttload of typical studio Gainax mindfuckery and colourful explosions.
Does anyone else think this story is kind of defragmented into four different quarters as far as storytelling style is concerned or am I just overanalysing it?

TTGL is just awesome. It's one huge pastiche of everything related to mecha anime, and twists it all into such an over-the-top fashion that one can't just help but love it.
I mean, before Gurren Lagann the largest mecha in anime was about the size of the moon (Diebuster, I believe). Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is 10 million light years in height, 4 million taller than the largest known galaxy, and Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann was 3 billion light years tall.

I see it that way too. From the ground to the galaxy, the story does seem to have these points where it hits a new level but my favorite thing is the full circle at the end (sort of, their not back underground but they go back to earth). Only thing i wonder is how someone goes back to a normal life after seeing all the shit they did, i'd be so bored coming back
