i wanna get the drum island set but best buy was being lame and only had the sets i already have and the icky little garden set. ugh. sooooo sloooooooow. i might have to go halfway across town just for a dvd set because stores won't stock up on anything that isn't mainstream.

Why the hell do people seem to hate Little Garden so much? I just can't comprehend.
Off topic a bit, I am wondering if we will ever see any movies or specials dubbed now that they have gotten quite far in the series.

Everything this fine poster said a thousand times over.
I cannot express how desperately I need those early movies and TV specials to convert my friends into One Piece fans. Nothing does convincing like lending someone a movie, and then a second once they're baited.
Also Little Garden rocks.
-
How could anyone hate Little Garden?…
It had one of the funniest scenes in the entire series...
Nami: "Zoro... What the HELL are you doing?!"
Zoro: "Striking a Pose! If I'm gonna be frozen in Wax, I wana look cool"
Later
Nami: "I... cant move..."
Zoro: "Bet you're pretty sad you didn't strike a pose right about now!" -
Little Garden was a little slow getting started, but overall it's a very fun arc. Awesome giants are awesome.

Personally, I have nothing against Little Garden, it's just that I don't particularly care for it either. It's still better than several of the filler-arcs, but I do think it's one of the weakest arcs in the main story.

best arc ever

Is that using the "Luffy nekkid %" metric?

Too bad for me they have not licenced the One Piece anime in Australia D:
Some anime convention guy told me it'd be early next year. Hopefully it's true.
-
Is that using the "Luffy nekkid %" metric?
No, that would put Amazon Lily over Little Garden.
-
I forgot about the shroomage.
-
Some anime convention guy told me it'd be early next year. Hopefully it's true.
Oh that would be so excellent. Hopefully he wasn't talking about the manga speed up and got confused.
-
Damn, that would suck. xD But it was a Funi dvd stall attendant, so…
-
Well I think it's stupid that Madman has not licenced One Piece yet, I mean this is a great time to release it with everything that VIZ is doing for it. All the other Shonen Jump Stuff is for sale even D. Grey Man has been released before One Piece. Sigh.
-
I'd really appreciate it if FUNimation made a dub of the fourth movie after s3v1 or s2v6 or s2v7 however it ends up as. Also, as the DVDs keep releasing they should make dubs on the 5th and 6th movies.

the anime version dragged, nothing interesting or eventful happened other than the debut of Mr. Prince and that funny line Zoro said. Doesn't help that toei used poor artwork for the entire arc so it wasn't even pretty to look at.
I can't remember one episode in little garden arc that looked nice. Almost EVERY arc including the fillers have at least 2-3 good looking eps. c'mon.

Buy.com have One Piece Season 2 Fifth Voyage for $27.99.

I prefer RightStuf, but I just might have to order from Best Buy with that price.

I didn't think it was THAT bad looking. And it had quite a bit of good stuff once you get past the first few slower episodes. Rin just posted one good quote out of quite a few good scenes. And how can you not like Mr. 3 and his amazing intellect, only to fumble himself up in the end.
Granted it is not as good as other arcs, but certainly very enjoyable overall.
Any sign of Rightstuff getting Sixth Voyage up for preorder?

Unfortunately, it's not gonna happen.
I have a friend who works for Madman (Not in the offices, she does contract work for them, like Magazine ads and what have you) and when I got her into the series, she wanted to buy it uncut so she asked some of her friends who work at Madman what the status of the license was.
They said that they licensed Movie 8 from FUNi to test the market to see if Uncut One Piece would sell. You can probably guess how THAT turned out.
In case you can't, Nobody bought it (since it sucks) and apparently nobody in Australia had the foresight that most of us had and just BOUGHT the damn thing even if you didn't want it in hopes that the good sales would lead to more One Piece stuff getting released. So yeah, the abysmal sales of Edited 4kids One Piece coupled with the equally abysmal sales of Movie 8 Uncut lead Madman to believe "One Piece" as a whole was just not profitable, so they will not be picking it up at all.
There is a chance I guess that this decision could be reversed one day, but It's not very likely.

The problem with using Movie 8 as a test product, espically without alterating it, it's not something fans want. The only way Movie 8 would have sold in another country on DVD if they had uped the bitrate, included the dubbed Compass and 5.1 Japanese Surrround Sound. But hey, at least you had a chance of OP over there unlike the UK which the chance is 0% thanks to Toei's 'genius'.
Also, I uploaded the Ave Maria Cover used in One Piece Episode 086 to youtube without vocals and very small amounts of SFX. I think it turned out better than the last one and I may even redo it. Download link in the Dubbed Songs thread once again. Hope you enjoy!

Hmm? What about Toei and the UK on One Piece?
-
@Dixxy:
Hmm? What about Toei and the UK on One Piece?
I'm sure i've posted this information in the past but one of the main reasons that One Piece (and the entire Dragon Ball series) won't be getting a UK release anytime soon is due to the price that Toei are charging. I won't say how much exactly but if they wanted to buy the rights to the entire first voyage it would cost over a half a million dollars (no UK price was given). Considering the show hasn't had any major coverage since 2006, it's an incredibility risky purchase and fully understand why no company has liscened either series.
Also, could someone tell what image song this is suppost to be? It's from the 101th episode, while Luffy is riding with Scorpion. The music cues guide didn't list what song it was so I want to know if I should bother making a proper encode of it. Download link here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=DGDZLK86 (I faded out the sound at the end since it gets really loud in the original so don't take this as a final encoded copy)

Hey, sorry to interrupt what you all were discussing, but how early do you usually receive something you preorder from rightstuf? I preordered S2 V5 and soul eater and I cant wait to watch them. Especially soul eater since all Ive seen is the episodes funi got on their site (Ive been trying to show my support for the industry moving the right direction by watching these official streams) and the dub sounds pretty good. I gotta say, a lot of funi's recent dubs are noticeably improving. The only thing that really bugs me is that they use the sme handfull of VA's but I guess that cant be helped.
Sorry for going off topic, couldn't help myself. ^_^
-
It's usually about two or three weeks early… but the most recent DVD shipped like three and a half weeks early.
-
From the sound of it sounds like it could be from one of the OSTs?
Maybe from some special CD?
I've honestly never heard this :wassat:
-
Yeah, that track from the Scorpion episode played once in the series. We haven't heard it since.
-
Cool! So I can expected it around the end of December maybe early January. I don't get why their releasing soul eater so late though. Oh well, thanks for the info.
About the track, why did they make it if they were only gonna use it once? It doesn't even fit the mood until Franky shows up. sigh… Whatever.

If I get time I may start a petition and post it on the madman forums to show proof that Australians want One Piece.

Good idea. The best thing to do is let them know what the fans are thinking, so long as it is done in a respectable manner. If you go shouting and stuff they will only turn their heads, but if you are patient and calmly list your reasons and such, you may have a better chance of attracting their attention.
Btw, what exactly is madman? Is it a company?
-
Btw, what exactly is madman? Is it a company?
Madman is the Australian anime licensor for… everything... they're like the AU's Top company, I've never even HEARD of another existing in Japan. They mostly work with American companies and don't produce their own dubs though. They just get our Dubs and put those on DVD and possibly get them aired on TV.
They have the One Piece license in AU right now, they publish the Viz Manga over there (it's the Viz Version verbatum, even uses Zolo) and they currently sell the 4kids Version of the Anime.
When FUNi got the uncut license, Madman were skeptical as to whether or not to pick up the uncut version of the series, so they decided to take the first Uncut release FUNi did (Movie 8) and sell that to see if sales would be good enough to get the rest of the series too.
Most/All of the US fans realized that companies don't respond to petitions or fans asking for stuff so much as they respond to MONEY. They make money on something, they sell more of it. So PRETTY MUCH every single US fan who bought Movie 8 did so for the express purpose of giving FUNimation money for One Piece, so they would know the series is profitable.
Australian fans apparently didn't get this concept, because Movie 8 sold horridly there and Madman decided One Piece wasn't worth picking up uncut. However, not all American fans get the message either, because I've been seeing people go "Bleh, this DVD has a few episodes of Alabasta Scorpion Filler? NO THANK YOU SIR!!" and a good fine bunch of people are already swearing they wont buy the Boxed Set that has the filler between Alabasta and Skypea, so I guess we're all a little dumb on this fromt.
-
I think Funi are smart enough to know the why's if the filler set sells badly. If that happens, I'm sure they'll simply space things out so there is never another 100% filler set.
I quite like Madman, it was the only place you could get an uncut DB boxset for one thing(well, without the first 13 problem anyway). But it was their stupidity over the movie 8 release, not the aussie fans. Selling something that's had bad reviews everywhere it's gone and basing the future of an entire series on it is rather dense.

Listen to the Commentary on the Apis arc. They were talking about how much they liked Apis and wanted her to stay and join the crew.
I really don't think they know what's filler and what's not.
-
Well I wouldn't expect the voice actors to.
I can't remember, was Mike McFarland or anyone else important in that commentary?
-

Whaaaaat! But the random anime convention guy…
You'd think they'd realise you shouldn't base a series on a single movie, surely the Naruto movies sell poorly compared to the series. Hopefully Viz will turn it around...
-
Sorry if this has been mentioned before but I was reading some comments on YouTube and they were saying Oda personal approved of the English voices is that true
-

Well in the commentary of the first episode McFarland (I think it was him) said that he liked that you see the characters get older in One Piece and that Zoro was 19 at the beginning and later in his early 20's :-/
-
@kuma:

It's true. All English actors are approved by Oda.
-
Wasn't it that only the Straw Hats got personally approved by Oda though?
Everyone else goes through Toei Only. -
From what I remember, yes.
I think this came from a commentary or a convention. I have the feeling it was a commentary.
-
Lol, its just marketing anyways.
-
Quelling nerdrage mostly, one would assume.
-
I'm pretty sure it's true though. They said it A LOT at Panels at Cons and a couple of times on the commentary (Mike Mentions it in an Early one, and Sonny Strait says it a few times later on)
I doubt they'd tell us Oda actually approved the cast if he didn't. And since I think the Straw Hats' voices all fit them very well, I'd be inclined to agree with Oda.
(My only major problem is Robin's "Bitchy 'Tude" she has in the early Skypiea Eps) -
I wacthed Movie 8 and I noticed Robin can't pronounce the french words in her attacks right..
Personally, I don't really like the voices. Escpecially Luffy. They are ok, but I don't like them all too much..
But I meant it like that, Oda said it so that they sell better. I don't think hes the type to do that, though. But maybe he had to say it from Toei or something. Or Maybe he just wanted the english fans to feel happy, I don't know. Maybe he really does like them..
-
They're not amazing (except Tatum as Enel, he's superb), but they're good enough. They're not actively embarrassing like 4kids. Times like this I miss Pioneer, and the good VA work they used to do.
I tend to only really listen to the Japanese track anyway.
-
I've only heard most of the voices from Youtube videos and the 4kids voices from games, but I liked 4kids Smoker more. Maybe it was just the video I watched for the Funi voice, though. I'm getting most of the DVDs for christmas, so I guess I'll see..
Oh, and David Hayter should do Smokers voice xD
-
I wonder, would you guys still dislike the voices had you not seen the Japanese version so much already?
I think a lot of people dislike FUNi's version simply because it's different. You've spent a lot of time listening to Mayumi Tanaka as Luffy so now, anybody but Tanaka can only be "Ok" at best to you. At least, that's what I think.
-
Nope.
Slayers for instance, I watched it in the original Japanese to begin with, but I like the english dub just as much.
-
It was a joke. David Hayter is the voice of Solid Snake xD
To the other part of your post: I actually "grew up" ( well the last six years. So puberty :-/) with the german voices.. I have only liked the japanese voices since Unlimited Cruise. I thought they weren't good when I played Grand Battle!!PS1..
Edit: Huh? Wheres the part about Smoker in your post all of a sudden? Now my first sentence seems so random >_>
