For all of you that don't know, director James McTeigue and the Wachowski brothers are making a movie based on Alan Moore's great comic, V for Vendetta.
There are news concerning the movie, and most importantly, the trailer is out.
Go watch it here:

The links also provide info on the film, but nevertheless:
In a story where Germany won a future World War and Great Britain is now a fascist state, a masked vigilante known only as "V" conducts guerrilla warfare against the government. When he rescues a normal young woman (Portman), she joins his struggle against the forces of oppression…_

I loved the book, but I really have no interest in the film because a lot has been changed around. In addition, some of my favorite parts are either gone or been screwed up. (This is after I read part of the V script.) Also, too much focus is placed on Guy Fawkes.
I'll probably still see it…
-
I'll give it a chance nevertheless. I was also sceptical towards Spider-Man and X-Men adaptations, but it turned out that Singer and Raimi did great jobs. On the other hand, every project based on Moore's works got screwed up (League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, From Hell, Constantine…), so I really can't tell whether it'll be good or bad. Moore and his work really don't deserve this kind of bad reputation. I just hope they won't screw up the Watchmen. <_<

this will rock because the matrix people are making it.
-
Wow, it looks like my expectations were wrong. This movie will rock.

i still don' know what to think about it. let's wait… but it seems average and that's all.

I do not agree, just because the Wachowski brothers are involved in this, don't mean that it will be super hyper great. It's true Matrix was a masterpiece, i love that movie, but the two sequels Reloaded and Revolutions, especialy Revolutions are crap, to much CGi, the plot could have been better, Neo turned into Jesus.
I have high hopes for V for Vendetta, but i lost my trust in the Wachowski brothers. -
Neo was jesus from the onset. I mean the one is the savior of mankind from the beginning. I had to give a 20 min presentation about the film so i had to look for stuff like that.
I have never read the comic so i wouldnt know if they changed stuff or not but i enjoyed the film. However, the way they make V, the terrorist (this was probably one of the things that they changed in the movie because i heard he wasnt a terrorist in the comic), seem like the "good" guy in the end could tickle alot of people the wrong way
-
There were a few things changed from the comic (the one that sticks out most for me is the ending) but besides that, this movie is amazingly faithful to the source – and because the source itself was absolutely brilliant, this movie is absolutely fantastic. Go see it, damn it. All of you.
(God, Hugo Weaving is amazing as V)
-
I didn't like it. I think the book was much better and a lot of great characters and scenes were glossed over.
-
I liked it and most of the changes too. That said the novel is of course still better but that was expected
-
I don't feel like giving the Wachowski brothers any more of my money.
-
lol, that is a very good reason.
-
Glad to hear good things! I'm super looking forward to this!
-
I saw it last Thursday in a sneak showing at my theater and I was impressed. I'm familiar with Alan Moore's work but this was one I hadn't read yet, but it seemed very much like his writing (definitely moreso than that gawdawful LXG movie). Hugo Weaving was amazing, and I love the irony of John Hurt playing Big Brother after starring in one of the movie adaptations of 1984. But I'm a geek that way. I've also had the 1812 Overture stuck in my head all week. ^^

BAM! TO BEHOLD, A PUBLIC BULLETIN BOARD, BUILT OF BOTH BRILLIANCE AND BARBARITY BY BASTARDS WITH BONERS. THIS BASTION, NO MERE BULWARK OF BOREDOM, IS A BRUTAL BARRAGE OF BLISTERING BULLSHIT, BARELY BENEVOLENT… BUT BEHIND THE BIGOTRY AND BOOBS, BEYOND THE BITTER BROADCASTS OF BRAGGING BUFFOONS: HERE BE THE BODY POLITIC. A BROTHERHOOD OF BLASPHEMY, BLESSED WITH MORE BALLS THAN BRAINS, BATTLING THE BLAND, THE BOGUS, THE BENIGN. BEDLAM? BRING IT ON. BUT I BABBLE... BETTER TO BE BRIEF. YOU MAY CALL ME /B/. -
oh, alliteration. I loved weaving's performance. That is why i liked him as agent smith in the matrix (the matrix being my second fav film behind the godfather)
-
this movie has good reviews. i'm definitely watching it. XD
-
Epic bump.
I hadn't seen this movie until last night, I have also not read any of the original source material.
But I must say that this movie was brilliant, I loved Hugo Weaving as V, even with his mask on he still portrayed every emotion perfectly.
A very smart film with some messages that some people may not agree with, but I thoroughly enjoyed this and I don't know I haven't seen it before.
-
This film is great. Even more if you live in England.
side note: Bumping such an old thread seems a tad unnecessary when it could have gone in the movie recommendations thread.

Actually, Hugo Weaving was only on board to provide the voice. The actual actor beneath the mask and suit dropped out before post production. I believe he also originally recorded audio/the voice for V as well. Rather than reshoot the whole thing with Hugo, they only needed his voice.

I saw in an interview where he was talking about how sweaty he was getting from wearing the mask, so I don't think what you are saying is correct.
-
You're right. I thought there was a lot more footage of the original actor for V, instead of Hugo. Turns out he did end up being in most of the film as V.
