I just wonder how James will edit the Super Mario Bros. 3 review since that has all the footage from The Wizard, maybe he can get permission from Universal? Either that or he can use fair use since he's reviewing The Wizard compared to his Back to the Future and Rocky reviews which just had clips interspersed for comedic effect.

i thought this review was really good. I'm glad he had a good word for the SNES version of rondo of blood. I know it's not as good as the original, but it's not that bad. and it's nice to have a list of all these games. My head swirls with all the games sometimes.
and ahahahah. so glad I didn't get a N64. those games suck. I have a feeling he's gonna review SOTN next time.

It was fantastic. I have never played the SNES version, but man, it sure looks like one hell of a ride. I can't believe how far he's going with this. Four parts? Wow. That's admirable. Can't wait for the next one!

I found this review especially amusing due to Castlevania 64. Take the fuckin' nitro was perhaps the most frustrating, annoying experience i've had with a video game, i kid you not. I wonder how the hell you're supposed to beat that.

@goty; I missed zelda, but that's about it. and I can get that on GC now. the polygon graphics really bothered me on the 64. I'd take NES graphics anyday. and I'm not into games like goldeneye. though I do realize it's a good game.
It wasnt anything in the design, but like he said the controls was horrible and it was way to hardcore for me to ever play through. And IGA made all of those (well almost all) Metroidvania games.

The only time I raged was when after taking an elevator on Easy, "Sorry, you must play on Normal or higher to continue."

Great review as usual. I totally agree with him that Super Castlevania IV was as cool as fuck, and it was definitely a step up from the NES games since we didn't have to deal with sloppy controls. Never played Rondo of Blood or the 64 games, but looking at them now I'm glad I didn't (well, Rondo of Blood would probably be worth a shot).

I like the old school games, but I love SotN. I love the metroid style game play. though, after SotN, I feel the rest of the games are cheep rip offs. kinda like disney straight to video squeals.

Everybody should steer clear of HoM, while the others are 10/10 HoM is at most 5/10.
Its by no means a total crap game, but doesnt live up to the rest of the classics.
i bought circle of the moon. played it for half an hour, and was utterly disgusted with the play control. I sold the game, but forgot I still had the box. anybody want a circle of moon box? brand new condition.

The only objection i had to CoM was that you couldnt play it on a GBA without full studio lightning behind your shoulders. But once i got a nice backlit DS that problem went away, and the rest of the game was superb.
oh ya. i forgot about that. ya, that was like half the frustration.
Order of Ecclesia does subvert the problem the AVGN had with the other "Metroidvania" titles.

His movie reviews and top 10 lists at Spike.com are just as good, maybe even better, then his AVGN episodes. He can review a highly-praised movie and still make it original.
He's also able to point out things I would never see. Like in his Back to the Future review, he shows that the mall was originally the "Twin Pines Mall" but when Marty went back and ran over a tree it became the "Lone Pine Mall" when he returned.

All right, I know a lot of people think it's the most retarded thing ever, but I loved the AVGN's "Wizard of Oz 3" movie. Of course I love absurd and ridiculous humor.
I also like his top 10 reviews and movie reviews.
The fact that James is so much more optimistic about movies is a serious sigh of relief. Nerd rage is usually bad enough when bitching about the silliest little things, but they go way to far with Kindom of the Crystal Skull. If I ruled the world, I'd make "Top 10 Stupidest Indy Moments" into mandetory education. Because God forbid the man who jumped off a falling tank, and grabbed a vine entirely while offscreen were jump in a fucking fridge.
It's nice to see some of his other work. he definatly has some talent. And it's nice that he's within our generation. It makes it more easy for him to relate to us on things.

Not a dick move. If you paid attention, you'd know he said he's talking about the games during HIS time. GBA is not his time as a kid. The only games missed out from his time are the GB titles and the second N64 game.

Neither was he a kid when he played the N64 game, since even if he played it at the release he was 20-21 at that time.
Which is also why it's the last one he played ultimately at the time. Remember that he mentions that these are the games he grew up with. He originally missed out on the Genesis and PlayStation Castlevanias due to being a Nintendo kid and sticking with just the N64 at the time.
It was around that time he started to focus more on school, making movies and what not. Which also makes sense since that's when the GBA Castlevanias began to come out.

ye young whipper snapper. ya dun even know what nostalga is, I tell ya. Why in my day, we had cartriges. and sometimes they worked, and sometimes they didn't. We were lucky to get a game without glitches.

Pretty good review, he obviously made this one himself and it really shows. I really loved the over the shoulder POV and the jokes weren't too over the top. Good stuff.
