Funi might as well role with crossdresser now because when it comes time to do Iva ballerina won't suit him/her.

Well keep in mind, in the manga they stayed on that island for 85 days (15 of those days were after Sanji discovered Zeff did that). In the anime it was only 2 weeks or so, so it's conceivable that Zeff just starved himself for that long
It's longer than 2 weeks in the anime - if you watch the flasback episode you can see Sanji is keeping tabs. I don't know the exact number off the top of my head but it's definitely more than two weeks.
-
The ONE definite difference is that the rescue didnt come the minute Sanji found out the truth.

Yeah the tally chart he carved in the rocks was damn long. Looked closer to the 85 day mark mentioned in the manga.

It's been a little while since I read that arc in the manga, but I just took a peak at that volume and basically everything is the same, except Zeff doesn't straight out confess to eating his leg and after their conversation about opening a restaurant, a marker appears that says 85 days have passed.

The marker appears after Zeff tells Sanji everything and collapses though, so it's implied that time passed between then and when the ship showed up. In the anime it shows up right after he collapses.

Yeah that's what I was implying, sorry for not specifying that.
I guess they felt that it was bad enough what had already happened and wanted to leave it at that. Either way though, it's all pretty tragic, but the manga makes it even more tragic.

You're right, I was just thrown off because I remember Sanji's "I can ration this food to last 2 weeks" quote, and right before he goes to Zeff he loses that piece of moldy break.
-
It was at least 40. I think 45 is the magic number. :)

What happens is he uses that food for two weeks, and then he drops the last piece of moldy bread on the last day of those two weeks. But then time continues on after all that.

Well, I got my OP S2 V3 set not too long ago and loved it, but I found somthing strange. I'm not sure if this is the same with any of the other sets, but the audio/sfx track seems to be slightly out of sync w/ the video by the middle to end of episode 85. I kinda noticed it during the scene when Hiruluk talks about his flag and bangs his hand against it, the sfx was delayed. Even when Hiruluk kicks Chopper out and he's banging on the door, it's out of sync. Now, I wouldn't have thought of it to be a big deal, but this was for all the language tracksβ¦upon going back and looking through the KF fansub version of the episode I still have, there were no sfx delays in those. So I don't know if this was just a one time thing that just slipped by them in the production process and all sets seem to have this, or if mine was just one that had this specific problem.
-
I haven't rewatched mine, but I have yet to notice any sync issues in mine
-
I check my copy and everything is fine.

Mine does the same thing⦠I haven't checked the Japanese track though.

@Mikey:
Mine does the same thing⦠I haven't checked the Japanese track though.
Well, the Japanese track did the same thing for me. It's kinda like, the video and audio were all in sync, but then the audio just gradually got out of sync w/ the video. I really want to know if more people have this problem or if people don't. I'm debating if I should even bother exchanging it for another, lest I get a set that actually has a more prominent glitch.
-
It happened to me too.

The same happened with me⦠Guess something went wrong with the encoding or something. Ah well, it's only off by about a quarter of a second, so I'm not too bothered by it, and I can understand how they'd overlook it. Compared to Season One Fourth Voyage with its utterly messed up opening for the last few episodes, lack of a preview for episode 53, (though I seem to be the only one with this problem...) or the first two sets where Zoro's wanted-poster in the eyecatchers was edited to say "Zolo" for some reason, (seriously, you can barely see it, and the dub doesn't even use that spelling, so why did they change that?) this is a pretty minor issue.
Anyway, yay! For the first time since January, I'm finally caught up with the DVDs! β¦Though seeing how I've decided I'm not gonna buy any more anime before Christmas, I doubt that'll last long unless my mom agrees to get me Fourth Voyage as a Christmas-present.

Okay. I finished watching the first disc of S2V1. Not half bad. While I don't generally like filler, the Warship Island Arc was somewhat entertaining. But if that was the only thing on the set, I'd be pissed. But there's Laboon and Whiskey Peak, so I'm glad. =D
Two things: English Apis's screams got slightly annoying and the credits they spelled it "Elilck" instead of Erik. Speaking of Erik, I love his english voice so much.
-
β¦and the credits they spelled it "Elilck" instead of Erik.
Far from the first time that's happened, though. The credits misspell names all the time. Just in the latest episode I saw, the credits had a listing for "Dr. Hiruruku"β¦ I also seem to recall "Aaron" and "Mouse" in S1V3, not to mention the utterly horrible translated credit-scroll in movie 8.

That seems to happen a lot, huh? Oh well, the horrible credit listings are one of the very few problems with the sets. It's not like the Remastered set of DBZ season 1. When it first came out, fans were writing angry letters to Funimation about the many mistakes.
EDIT: Noticed something. In the Funi Dub, Sanji often uses "Nami dear" and in the Skypiea arc, he used, "Robin baby." Call me crazy, but I think that`s a way of Americanizing -san and -chan. "Dear" is more polite than "baby" just like "-san" is more polite than "-chan". Works to match mouth flaps.
I apologize if someone said this already.

Funi translation on HD raw would be awesome. Anyone got a link?

Nah I think you're right to an extent. Although "-san" would be more polite than "-chan" in actuality. And to top that off he starts using "Nami-swan" as a joke to the original. I wander what they'll do with "chwan".

Thank you. Dunno how they'll incorporate the "w" factor; I don't see him saying, "dwear" and "bwaby." Perhaps another letter would be used.

No, no, he's actually SAID Nami-swan. Eric Vale. Sanji's English VA. In the show.
I believe it was in Skypeia.
-

Well, he did actually say "Nami-swan" at one point in the Skypeia-episodes, so it would appear that they're just keeping that as it is. Dunno about "Robin-chwan", though.
-
Yah, see.
Listen to the late one.

Oh, snap, he did! Well, I never saw the end of Skypiea (damn you CN) but this is a nice surprise. Sort of throws out my comparison, but at least then there's a nice English flow to it. I don't think people who have never seen Jap. OP won't get it. In fact, I think they will pick it up nicely.
Seriously, I'm surprised. I knew Funi wanted to make it like the original but I had no idea using honorifics, even if by accident, was a possiblity.
This only makes me support Funi more.
-
They also slipped in Zoro during the Cut TV eps too when Usopp went on his Zero Zoro Zolo thing.

Funi is very sneaky.

The little things that means FUNi loves us which many soon forget.
-
So all you FUNI-haters (that thankfully don't post in this thread) quit bitching.
In terms of accuracy:
FUNI OP>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>FUNI DBZ
They're even trying to blend some Japanese text in there. Good for them and us.
-
If Funi haters don't post in this thread, who exactly are you addressing?
And of course One Piece is a far superior dub to dbz, they've had a decades worth of experience since.
They're even trying to blend some Japanese text in there. Good for them and us.
Huh? This is a good thing? Or are you referring to Nami-Swan, which was probably kept as it worked in English (as graceful as a swan, etc).
-
I don't go on ass-kissing parades or mouthfoaming tirades without reason.
there are many morons in this forum after all

When it comes to funi, there's only really thousand batter.
-

Just pointing out the facts. If there was ANY doubt about the extent Funi could make their dub to the original, this evidence "Nami-swan" proves the opposition.
And of course One Piece is a far superior dub to dbz, they've had a decades worth of experience since.
Exactly. I'm just stating the facts and you supported it.
Now, another question. When Funi gets to Enies Lobby, do you think they will translate the Rokushiki? In fact, isn't VIZ doing it in the manga?
@dirt:
I don't go on ass-kissing parades or mouthfoaming tirades without reason.

Give me a break, will ya?
-
Should be six superhuman skills or something a bit shorter, I'd assume.
Or they may just say Rokushiki - the six superhuman skills for the first time, and Rokushiki thereafter. I can't imagine they'd leave it untranslated.
-
I believe from what we've seen so far, Viz didn't translate Rokushiki, so its anyone's guess what FUNi will do, or if what's in US Shounen Jump will be true when the volumes come out.
-
Either way would work for me. Though Funi usually translates things.
-
What is with Viz these days? Seem to be translating less and lessβ¦
Either way would work for me. Though Funi usually translates things.
I'd hope funi would at least translate it the first time through, otherwise I'd be a bit disappointed with them.
-
Fuck if I know, it's really weird and unfortunate.
@Darkstorm:When it comes to funi, there's only really thousand batter.
wintergt is the most recent dilapidated individual however
-
He's just been posting garbage everywhere recently though, not commenting on their quality(from what I've seen).
-
I'd hope funi would at least translate it the first time through, otherwise I'd be a bit disappointed with them.
It's like the whole Three Swords Style THEN Santoryuu thing. After that, it was used interchangeably so fans would know what it means. That would actually work in this case.
-
He's the "I'll only like it if'n it's free" type, which seems stupider than the other type.
And if he's from some other country, he should SUCK IT UP and import it. Americans have to buy the series too, yanno. They're not HANDING IT OVER to us like it's fucking candy.
-
Oh, he's a leech. I'll have to remember that for the next time he staggers in.
-
HUFF HUFF HUFF ya damn kids
-
I picture him with a wheeze, a cane, and a suspect bottle in a brown paper bag.
-
It always amuses me that liquor stores put the bottles in brown paper bags themselves. I've always felt so weird when walking back to the car with it.
After a few shots before leaving the parking lot, however, I'm good.
wait

And thus began the spiced rum saga.

In my day, we walked FIFTEEN MILES to the anime store knee deep in MUD and we LIKED IT dag nabbit.
