DIGIMON
I stopped watching the anime at Season 5, but I still love the PS1 and DS games.
I can never say I hate Digimon.
I loved the Digimon World game for the PS1. Could never figure out what to do though after awhile :ermm: .
Digimon season 3 was my favorite of the bunch, but I respect the integrity, continuity timeline and sheer episode and character count of the first two series.
Guilemon was always one of my faves design wise. ALl his forms looked great. And in the dub, his voice was really unique and interesting. (no idea how he sounded in the japanese.)
He was voiced by Nozawa Masako in the original.
Couldn't stand the dub myself.
But it was most definitely the best Digimon show.
I loved Guilmon's English dub. It was absolutely adorable.
But I gotta say, Digimon wasn't dubbed all that badly. Sure, the theme song was mediocre, but at least it wasn't….....
DON'T GIVE IT UP LU-FAY! DON'T GIVE IT UP ZOLO!

was pretty damn annoying. They changed the music and editd quite a lot of stuff. (emotional scenes, and any use of guns and such.) No, not the completley heinous level of editing of OP, but very little is on that level.
Oh yeah, and they like, spliced the first 3 movies together into 1. THAT made no sense.
I loved Guilmon's English dub. It was absolutely adorable.
Oddly enough, if I recall correctly, his voice actor was Steven Jay Blum, who also voiced Zabuza in Naruto, Killer Croc in Batman: Arkham Asylum, and Wolverine most of the time nowadays.
Damn! The guy who did Guilmon's voice did Killer Croc's in Arkham? That's awesome!
Reminds me of how the voice actor of Bluregard from Foster Home for Imaginary Friends also does the voice of Basch from Final Fantasy XII. I had no idea for such a long time.

Guilmon (and Season 3) is my all-time favorite Digimon.Season 1 had one of the most hilariously cheesy dubs I'd ever seen, but it was beautiful.

You're kidding me. The guy who voiced Spike fucking Spiegel also voiced Guilmon?! Jeez, next you'll tell me that…

…...I have no words.
Anyway, I actually made the huge mistake of thinking that, just because it didn't continue the season 1 and 2 storyline (not that there really was a storyline to continue) that season 3 wasn't worth watching and would probably suck. Of course now I've heard how many people consider it to be the best season and now I really wish I had watched it when I got the chance. I hope to rewatch the old episodes some time.
As far as the Digimon editing, I think my main gripe with it was all the dialogue changes they made to fit in their own lame cheesy jokes. Otherwise I think it was done very well.
I did like how in Season 2 they had the main girl reject the main guy from Season 1, killing all the shipper's hopes.
I did like how in Season 2 they had the main girl reject the main guy from Season 1, killing all the shipper's hopes.
Ha ha, total WTF/Troll moment from the show Anyway, I felt that Season 2 dragged on a bit at times especially towards the middle, but I give it credit for pulling one of the most awesome plot twists in anime history.
Season 2 was kinda dumb for me. The new characters that season were just terrible. Davis was annoying on all fronts, Yolei wanted to sleep with anything mildly bishonen (Mimi included), and Cody was as invisible as he was boring.
Veemon on the other hand was comedy gold.
Cody kinda looks like the balloon boy to me for some reason.

Wow dude, it's like we think alike, it's scaryO_O This is totally my opinion.
I'll give a little review of what I think about the Digimon series.
Season 1 was always the best IMO, it was the most classic and it has the most nostalgic feel to it (though there were some retarded episodes like the Piemon battle-_-).What it truly excelled at was character development. Getting a bunch of random scared kids and watching them get used to their surroundings and grow and accept their responsibilities and it was handled so well and their growing relationship with their digimon is a highlight of the series. The best part was the Tokyo arc. it was so great with all the characterization (even the parents getting character development!!!) and the street monster battles, seeing the mesh between old world and new world and a great climax with the children who started as only wanting to go home, accepting who they are and what they have to do after everything they've been through and choosing to go back to the Digital World. That was excellent.
Season 2, though imo not as good as the first season (mostly due to the unsufferable new characters though the japanese versions are slightly better--), is a pretty damn good series on its own right and an incredible sequel. It did something that few sequels actually manage to do, it MAINTAINED its consistency and CONTINUED the story line. This might be something obvious but you get so many shitty sequels that forget and/or abandon everything established in this first series (note: this doesn't apply to season 3 as they changed the characters too so it's ok in that case) to see a series maintain the charm of the world and carry on so many old plot points from the diversity of the digimon to the active parcitipation of the former chosen children to that one episode of reminiscene (with Gotsumon and Pumpkinmon and even Wizarmon!!!) to the final bad guy (responsible for pretty much everything bad in the entire season) being Vamdemon himself, an old character from the first series is debatably the best villain of the first series. My main gripe with it is that bit of hopelessness when Vamdemon killed those two digimon. The reaction of the chosen children was just ugh. Now I can forgive the reaction of the newbies, they were new but Hikari and Takeru… Takeru who even falling to his death when everyone else had been turned to dolls never gave up hope. Hikari who's digimon's best friend was killed in front of their eyes trying to protect them by the same enemy in front of their eyes. The others should have been holding them back in their rage. But nooooooooo, they had to act all scared to make that inferior Taichi rip off look good--
OK, this post is getting quite long but I wanna finish this.
Season 3 was pretty much the best season but in a different way. Where the first season had it's unique charm and nostalgia and adventure, the third season broadened its scopes giving it its own charms. It was definitely the best written in plot and symbolism, had great characterization and was all around awesome. I know this is quite little to say about my favorite series of the three but I'm really not up to discussing its intricate complexities especially given how long this post is getting. Let's just leave it as it was awesome!!! Great all around from beginning to end.
Season 4... I don't even wanna discuss it. Let me just state my major gripe with it. NO DIGIMON PARTNERS!!! That's jumping the shark right there.
Season 5 I haven't watched because of season 4-_-
So that's my review, sorry for the lengthy post.

You really should give Savers a try, don't pass it off because of Frontier's fail.

I've started reading 666 Satan (or O-Parts Hunter as I'm reading the Viz manga). Pretty fun stuff and pretty interesting.
And what is this, Viz? You left nudity in?!
I for one enyoed frontier. I don't know why, but the kids being in the front lines for a change (besides the mega forms from tamers) was ok.
The whole 10 warriors was entretaning, even in it's cliche, and the badies were great, from Arbormon to Lucemon, including the gay pink knight.
My only problems with 3 are:
Posting in the pizza/boobs thread.
Yay digimon discussion!
Adventure is my favourite, but actually I've never seen anything other than it and 02… And some first 5 episodes of Tamers and Frontier on Youtube. Adventure probably gets nostalgy points, because I was in grade school when it aired in Finland. What I liked was how the kids got to a totally weird place and were desperate to get home. In 02 it really bothered me that the kids could visit Digital world as they pleased and went there to have fun on a picnic. And the way the older children were written out annoyed me as well "Digital world is in danger?! Sorry we have studies". And all the new kids were annoying.
As I said I haven't seen much Tamers or Frontier, but as a girl the fact that Frontier only had one girl really makes me angry. Even the new kid to join later was a boy... And are her digimon forms much more than fanservice?
The first Finnish dub of Adventure was so bad that it's legendary. Here are some videos about it (they're pretty lulzy even if you don't understand Finnish). Luckily the dub was so bad that it got cancelled and a better team took over...
Takeru and Patamon are happy:

So that's my review, sorry for the lengthy post.
My thoughts exactly, although I want to elaborate a bit more.
On Season 2, the plot started out quite decently, although cliched. It was around te mid-point when Arukenimon showed up that the plot started to pick up, but once we complete the Destiny Stone Arc, the series becomes a giant clusterfuck. (Sure these are the last 10-13 episodes), but NOTHING about those last few episodes was memorable or even enjoyable in the least. I honestly semi-enjoyed the last battle, but it was probably my least favorite ending so far. Also, Davis is LAME, making him into the main character was dumb and making him and Ken into the "Naruto" of the series sucked. (Old DigiDestined: We have to wait for Davis and Ken, since we're useless and stuff. No one get in their way, k?)
Season 4 should have been called Digimon: Adventures of Takuya and Koji (Oh, and these other side characters, too…) I mean, Takuya and Koji got like, three or four more evolutions than the other characters >_>
Season 5 I would place lower than Seasons 1 and 3, higher than 4, and probably higher than 2. Art style aside, it was a generally fun season, although the characters were fairly cookie-cutter. Needed more variety though. Sure, Season 3 only had 3 main tamers, but there were tons of side characters. Season 5 had 4 main tamers and tons of side characters. The difference? Season 3's sideliners had a lasting presence. Season 5's side characters only appeared to fight in like three episodes.
So guys, has Billy made love to Emosuke yet? Or is he still trying to be the ultimate ninja?
am I the only person who found that opening hilarious? Every One Piece fan seems to hate it.
OP fans are the epitome of folks "take things too seriously". I found it funny in a bad way as well, but aside from the suburban gangster rap element it wasn't uncommon for butchery in a 1990's show.
I don't understand where people come from.
i don't know who 'Billy' is, but Brokeback Ninja happened during the hole-sucking…
The Beast is actually pregnant now, but he doesn't know yet cause he faited from pleasure...
wasn't uncommon for butchery in a 1990's show.
I don't understand where people come from.
Just because there are examples in the past where things were badly done doesn't excuse things being badly done again.
Its not the opening itself, its that the opening is emblamatic of ALL the problems. Much like "nuke the fridge" for Indy 4 or "batnipples" for Batman and Robin.
People don't even care about the batnipples.
The bad acting, neon sets, horrendous Ahuld puns, a terrible Posion Ivy and Bane, terrible characterization on both Batman and Robin's parts, bat credit card, horrible plot, nasty costuming, horrible fight scenes, the setting back of an entire comic book movie franchise 10 years, etc. etc… You can say all that and more in a rant, (and nostalgia critic does a fantastic job) but "batnipples" summarizes it in conveniant shorthand slang.
Its not saying "Well if you removed this oooooone aspect everything would be great!", but its one specific thing that you can say in 2 seconds that summarizes the general mindset of... everything involved with production.
Similarly, the opening One Piece rap epitomizes the changed scripts, altered music, censoring, editing, bad voice choices, the re-animating of swords into hammer-things, the skipped arcs, etc. Its not JUST that, but as the VERY FIRST IMPRESSION of the show, it stands as a quick and easy point where, a few seconds into seeing your first episode, you know the franchise is in the wrong hands.
If the opening had been the only bad thing, but the rest had been Funi quality, we would have shrugged, gotten over it, and tolerated it as a "tv thing." As is, its just a symbol at this point.
We could harp on Dr. Girlfriend Sanji as the beacon instead if you prefer.
Wow, the Finnish dub sounds like a bad fandub, even by fandub standards.
Yep that is our countrys dub quality. We have in entire country like 5-8 voice actors for all anime/cartoon series.
I am adamant agaisnt ALL dubs, for all languages. You dont watch stuff dubbed, ever.
Dubs = rape, I dont care if its 4kids or Funimation its still sucks. If you cant watch it with subs or cant understand what they are saying then dont bother watching it at all.
For the record I have not meet single good dub except some 90's Disney films, and even those I prefer to watch in original languages.
Oh, and thank god that I am not german or french, I heard that they taint everything in there with dubs…
Ah yes Digimon, I remember I stopped watching when Frontier started. The intro took way too fucking long so I know nothing of this series.
I've been trying to watch Adventure 02 on Crunchyroll, is the ending really that bad?

Cowboy Bebop would like a word with you.
I admit here that I have not watched original Cowboy bebob anime series and I have not watched Dragonball either .
How can I say anything about animes if I have missed these two classics that are legends among animes.
I saw Cowboy Bebob movie though and I really liked it, so I promised to check out original series aswell, but so far I have not found time to fulfill my promise.
But when I check it I will watch it with japanese voices and english subs.
I really liked Bebobs japanese VA in movie and I think he really fit for that role.

I'm just gonna leave this right here.
Um…About the whole 10 tails thing...If I remember correctly, shukaku was actually the spirit of a former monk or whatever. And if Madara wanted the uchiha to be respected, why did he help Itachi slaughter them all ? What was the point of Madara telling everyone about his mooneye plan, wouldn't it be smart to initiate the plan first and catch the five major countries off guard?takes a breatherAnd where the hell does nagato fit in the rikoudo family tree?
sighKishi, what the fuck are you doing to your story?
I'm just gonna leave this right here.
I admit Nami got really good voice actor, was not even gringeworthy.
I dislike Luffy's voice actor, its so…generic and bratty.
But I dont know why you want to watch OP dubbed, Original VA's in One piece have done marvelous voice, I loved them from the first time and they really fit their charecters.
I dont think Funimations VA's even if they are doing decent job can even match for commitment for their original japanese counterparts.
In Japan Voice actors are considered as super stars, idols but in western countrys Voice actors are mainly faceless studio workers.

Yes it was funny since it was so bad, but it didn't do the series true justice.

I really appreciate you leaving it there, because I loved how they did that scene.
The movie was very good. I liked it a lot more than the series, but apparently it's not cool to like the movie better because the series is godly and if you disagree, you are a pretentious niche-loving fanboy.
@robbybevard:
Just because there are examples in the past where things were badly done doesn't excuse things being badly done again.
It does when people take exception to a single show because they happen to like it. 4Kids was not the worst offender when it came to butchery, the level of rancor against them is disproportional because people "don't care about those 1990's shows".
It used to be the case whenever OP was brought up as a horrible dub, people would point to Card Captors and say "so? Take a seat youngin', this is nothing new".
There's no more CC anger because the fans matured or left the fandom, yet after 5 years the perpetual anger against 4Kids never dies down because the fans are ridiculously juvenile.
I understand your use of the rap as a blanket term to summarize the dub in general, but I'm more focused on the wheel of rage that never gets flat.
It seems I was very wrong about this thread getting shamed. Win to you Mr.beard/
Why will it get Shamed? It's awesome.
If anything the Naruto manga series should get moved to the Hall of Shame.
I've been trying to watch Adventure 02 on Crunchyroll, is the ending really that bad?
It's not a bad ending to me, because it incorporated elements from Season 1 and Season 1 was inherently superior to 02, but it's a bad season overall.
But I dont know why you want to watch OP dubbed
Because I prefer to not only understand the show I am watching, but because I prefer to also watch the show I am watching, not the distracting text beneath the screen.
And about the 02 ending, I wasn't talking about the ending ending, but the last quarter of the show in general.
I was the first response on page one, I predicted it would cause of the title
Did I dream this up or was there a shitty ending to one of the first 2 Digimon seasons where they all became fast food sellers and astronauts?

Did I dream this up or was there a shitty ending to one of the first 2 Digimon seasons where they all became fast food sellers and astronauts?
Ohhhh that was the Adventure 02 ending, I remember Adventure ended with the kids leaving the Digital World and that's it.
Damn that ending sounds like crap.
I understand your use of the rap as a blanket term to summarize the dub in general, but I'm more focused on the wheel of rage that never gets flat.
Naw, there's no rage here, outside of whatever unmeasurable damage they did to OP as a franchise due to first impressions… but OP was never going to be big stateside, its way too goofy and wierd looking. Even as an anime and manga fan I scoffed when I saw the original Japanese version because it looked TOO colorful and TOO strange and generic and like a random fly by night wannabe shonen series. It wasn't until someone showed me the awesome of the Arlong fight, and I had started reading it in american Jump and started seeing some of the heart it had, that I was converted.
If an openminded anime fan like myself is harsh towards OP on first appearance, then really, it doesn't matter what 4Kids did, they were never going to hurt it more than the look and nature of the series itself did. They do provide with some stuff to scoff at and boggle at in retrospect. (Like Laboon the iceburg)
So, no hate here, though the companies general policies DO annoy me. When they take what were already kid shows in Japan, and censor/dub them down. Yugioh, Pokemon, Turtles;Fast Forward, Kirby, Sonic, and the other licenses they pick up in general, like that fast food fighters thing, that showcase their overall attitude of "Kids are stupid, give the characters goofy voices and insert innapropriate jokes and take out any and all foreign culture that might confuse them" like the infamous rice balls=donuts or cut Pokemon episodes.
Its a very condenscending attitude, and that I have distate for.
That said, I'm not the target audience, I'm never up on saturday mornings to watch cartoons anyway anymore, I gave up on their edition of OP pretty quickly and went back to subtitles, and its pretty much a nonfactor in my life. they were responsible for getting the original Turtles 2k3 show on to begin with, so its tough to hold it too much against them when they then demanded that it be crapped up, after it had gotten a couple good seasons already.
So. no hate here. just amusement/dumbfounded-ness at some of the choices they make in their approach to things.
Did I dream this up or was there a shitty ending to one of the first 2 Digimon seasons where they all became fast food sellers and astronauts?
Well, if you want the nasty details…
! The ending to season 2 shows all the kids grown up and what jobs they ended up doing. To the best of my memory I think Tai became an ambassador, Matt became an astronaut, Sora married Matt, Mimi became the host of a cooking show, T.K. became a novelist, Kari became a kindergarten teacher, Davis started his own noodle shop, Ken became a detective, Slut, I mean Yolei, married Ken, and the rest I can't remember. Oh and they all had kids who now have Digimon of their own.
! I'm dead serious.
Digimon tamers was the best, it's dub was good/great and it made the most sense.
Adventure was also good, but I can't stand half the crap of 02 that ruins 1 as a consequence.
Also Davis is < to Naruto in terms of disgusting stupidity and lameness.
All I remember from Tamers was this guy:
He would wreck your shit up.
You know what the biggest mistake of the ending of Digimon season 2?
TK and Kairi were haven't sex.
