Let's take a look at both contestants' subordinates/nakama:
Crocodile:
Each of them are pretty interesting. He has minorities (blacks, transvestites, women, fat people) working for him and they are given high ranks.
Whitebeard:
I dunno, we only saw few commanders and (excluding Ace) they got little personality. And why is that most of them are young-looking men, and does he have any women commanders/crew mates?

Shmeckie, I'm guessing that you like the villain based AMV's which are rarely made by people generally.

About the WB - Croc relationship.
I think that Crocodile was WB"s second division commander. He tried to take WB down and get his position and he failed. He was punished by WB who cut his arm and thrown him to the Okama island. He was humiliated and Iva saw the whole scene…Afterwards he tried to obtain Pluton in order to beat WB and conquer the world and he failed again. He also refused to escape with the rest of the Baroque works agents when they asked him because he didnt feel like it...(maybe he thought that there is no way to surpass Whitebeard) He also mentioned then he was in ID level six that there are a lot of silver medalists out there who failed to beat WB and Roger, maybe he is actually one of them ! Now this is his last chance to take WB"s head...and he will do it. Thats my theory.
