Any more trippy than the pink elephants on parade?
Not to mention Dumbo had the use of alcohol in it.

I always thought this was funny as hell
I wish they had the actual sound in a non-retarded format
So, just saw The Fox and the Hound for the first time since I was a kid. I forgot how cute and sad it was. In fact, I barely remember it. But, it feels great to re-watch them. And I think this might even be in my top ten on my list of all time favorite Disney movies.
what disney movie costed the most to make??
Just curious.

animated or in general?
@Senshi:
I have to say though, Gurgi was the most annoying character. But, that's mostly because I couldn't stand his voice. Seriously, he sounds like Donald Duck and Meatwad's love-child.
Gurgi doesn't bother me a tenth as much as Creeper does. The latter wrecks almost every scene that the Horned King is in, which is a real shame as he's one of the best villains in any Disney film.
At best, the scenes where Gurgi popped up would have been "meh" even without him while Creeper managed to torpedo some fairly effective sequences that would have been great without him.
rereading this
I like how Tiana sounds more stereotyopical than Maddy
Wasn't the film supposed to be set in the '30s? Isn't Tiana anachronistic to boot?

Of the traditional cel films, it was Treasure Planet. Not so sure about the CGI films.
In the long run, Treasure Planet almost certainly cost the studio more money than anything else simply because it was such a colossal trainwreck at the box office and didn't make anywhere near as much money.
Saw National Treasure Two, and it was good as the first one IMO (and I liked the first one). It was basically the same setup (including working with the bad guy during the final dungeon), but it was pretty funny and cute.
On another note, before the movie they showed a new Goofy cartoon based off those older ones where Goofy would basically be instructed by a voice on how to properly do something. The cartoon I thought was hillarious. Really, Disney needs to have more of these.

From now on, animated Disney shorts are supposed to accompany all major Disney movies. It's part of John Lasseter's plans to make the Disney Animation dept. get it's good rep back.
I demand a Donald Duck short.
I haven't seen the second National Treasure, but I thought the first one was excellent, it had a sort of wacky Indiana Jones kick-common-sense-to-the-curb feel which was a lot of fun.
Also, BOROMIR was the main villain
Wow the 2nd National Treasure movie is ACTUALLY good?! Might give it a watch with my friends this week…

That's a good plan. We could use more shorts to remind us all of why we used to like Disney in the first place. If this leads to more traditional animation used for their movies as opposed to the slew of live action and CGI we've been seeing Disney do for the last five years, I'm all for Lasseter.

Same here.
16 agreements.
Disney was good before they hit 2000, now you get alot of misses, and few hits. I think its mostly from the fact they're going the more live action route and leaving basically all the animation to Direct-to-DVD releases or to Pixar. Darkwing Duck will always have a place in my heart.
As much as I liked the classics, I never really cared for the princess movies. I could understand how groundbreaking Disney's version of Snow White was, but for some reason I could never get into that sort of thing, with the exception of The Little Mermaid.
After the re-watching I did last week, my top 10 are probably:
1. Bambi
2. The Little Mermaid
3. The Fox & the Hound
4. The Rescuers
5. Robin Hood
6. Fantasia
7. The Emperor's New Groove
8. The Sword in the Stone
9. Alice in Wonderland
10. Aladdin
Edit: Whoops, didn't know Brave Little Toaster wasn't done by Disney.

It isn't? Could've sworn it was. I've seen it shown on the Disney channel a few times.
Brave Little Toaster wasn't made by Disney, but they did distribute it.
Maaaan, so many Disney flicks, so little room in a Top 10. I'd be so screwed if we included Disney's TV Cartoons.
1. Beauty and the Beast
2. The Rescuers & Rescuers Down Under
3. Mulan
4. The Great Mouse Detective
5. Who Framed Roger Rabbit
6. A Goofy Movie
7. Emperor's New Groove
8. Toy Story 1 & 2
9. Aladdin
10. Monster Inc.
Aladdin is probably my favorite.
After that, I dunno, most likely Monsters Inc.
I could go for 15, maybe even 20.
Naw, better make that 15.
11. The Lion King
12. Mulan
13. Hercules
14. Lilo & Stitch
15. Peter Pan
I don't remember alot about The Great Mouse Detective, or The Jungle Book. It's been so long since I've seen them.
I was wondering if anyone's seen this/can help me find this. I remember hearing about it years ago and thought it was going to be a full-length movie, and never heard about it again.

I think I was one of the few people who enjoyed that short. I still do.
edit-
And after reading the url Solar linked, I like it a little more.

Oh man, thanks for posting that. Didn't think about looking on Youtube since Disney videos get taken down pretty quickly.
Lasseter is definately taking Disney animation in the right direction. There are rumors that there's already another traditionally animated movie in early production (one to come AFTER Princess and the Frog) and these rumors suggest that WDFA will go back to complete traditional animation, and Pixar will handle all the CG stuff.
My top ten from Disney are probably:
1. Lilo and Stitch
2. Pocahontas
3. Hunchback of Notre Dame (I defend this movie to the grave, with all its flaws)
4. Ratatouille
5. Nightmare Before Christmas (though it's not WDFA or Pixar)
6. Finding Nemo
7. Tarzan
8. Pinnochio
9. Aladdin
10. Mulan
The Aristocats would probably be in my top 10 if Ratatouille hadn't come along and been totally awesome.
Hey, I'm just glad my career choice has a future again. :p
3. Hunchback of Notre Dame (I defend this movie to the grave, with all its flaws)
Me too actually. It's a pretty intense movie, and the most mature themed of them all I'd wager.
TOP 15
1.Alice in wonderland
2.Pinocchio
3.Hunchback of Notre Dame
4.Robin Hood
5.Jungle Book
6.Snow white
7.Sleeping Beauty
8.Who framed Roger Rabbit
9.Aladdin and the King of Thieves
10.beauty and the Beast
11.Bambi
12.Tarzan
13.Fantasia
14.TNBC
15.Great Mouse decective
Its weird. I still have the Old VHS editions of alot of the disney films, Including Jimneys Crickets christmas, the old version of Mickeys christmas carol, the Fabulous 50's and more

Yeah, some Disney movies are surprisingly mature despite the age group they're aimed at. Even with the cute and funny characters we've come to know and love, the theme and story can be mature.
The Fox & the Hound was probably the most mature and unique of all the Disney movies I've seen for two reasons. One is the lack of a villain, but rather an antagonist much like the unknown hunter from Bambi. The hunter with a short fuse (For the life of me, I can't remember his name) was kind of funny in the beginning. But, as the story took a turn for the dark, that's when he became a real threat as the main source of conflict. He went from stereotypical redneck hunter to "I swear to god I'll kill that fox! And I'll do whatever it takes!" (Reminds me a bit of Kefka from Final Fantasy VI).
The other one is that it doesn't really have the sweet and happy "Aww, isn't that great! Everything worked out in the end!" ending that we're all familiar with. Instead, it has more of a bittersweet "We can never see each other again, but I'll always remember you." feeling to it.

And it's because of that the it remains my favorite Disney movie.

I certainly hope so. Disney needs a reason to be awesome again.

When you compare it to the book, the film does have an "Aww, isn't that great! Everything worked out in the end!" ending.

Found this short some time ago. I miss the times when cartoons were drawn like this. :(
Also, I thought this thread might need some more Joe Carioca.
Hell, I haven't seen this in a while. I'm actually Brazilian and when I was a kid living in Rio, this motherfucker was EVERYWHERE. A stroke of brilliance in the field of marketing and advertisement…
Wow that was pretty incredible, Portuguese is an extremely awesome language.
Favorite Disney films: Robin Hood and Great Mouse Detective.
I thought this article was rather interesting.
http://www.cracked.com/article_15677_9-most-racist-disney-characters.html
Everyone knows about Disney being accused of racism on more than one occasion. This article is hit or miss if you ask me, though. Some of the characters they mention, I have to agree with, though. The group of crows from Dumbo, in particular. I know, it was normal to see politically incorrect portrayals of blacks back then, but it had me staring at my monitor, going "What is this?!" when I re-watched it a few days ago.
I still have the VHS tape of Alladin which has the "cut of your ear if they don't like your face" line. If that was changed for the DVD, does that mean I have a collector's item?
Oh yeah, and the whole Sebastian being synonymous with 'All Jamaicans being jobless bums' is quite a bit of a stretch.
I'm more surprised by King Louie.
I saw that about a month ago. It sorta pissed me off a little
Screw racism, those crows were great.
Oh, don't even get me started on all that PC crap about Disney movies.
On another note, I saw Enchanted last night and I thought it was very cute and funny. Disney did a pretty good job of making fun of itself.
Yeah, the part with the cockroaches and rats was hilarious xD
"Well, it's always nice to meet new friends…"
Is Lilo & Stitch worth watching? Cause I was turned off by it for some reason.
I always thought that Lilo and Stitch was the last real Disney cartoon (ie: not crap). All the backgrounds were done traditionally, there was emotion, i really connected to the sisterly bond, etc…
OMG YES. I <3 Lilo and Stitch.
Alright, I'll give it a try.
Just curious, what about it turns you off?
I'm not sure. I just was. Maybe it was because it didn't interest me. Maybe it was because it's predecessor, the dud known as Atlantis: The Lost Empire, was so dull it gave me doubts. Maybe it was because of the advertisements that seemed so ordinary.
I loved Lilo & Stich! The animation was done so well, the characters were funny, there was emotion, the whole family bond thing I just loved it! The 2 movies and TV series to come after it were pretty dull though…

Atlantis was pretty boring…nothing Anime hadn't already covered (Nadia anyone?). I certainly like Lilo and Stitch better than a lot of the stuff that came out after Lion King. 2D-wise.
