Niiiiice somebody actually got a few pics of my Croc (I was the impromptu post jailbreak version). Really good time at the con, hopefully I can stay longer at the gathering next time.

I saw all of you guys. And all of you looked pretty darn good. Did anyone go Sunday and see they were playing 4kids One Piece in the video room?
-
Great Crocodile costume. Thought it was funny that everyone was wanting you to jump in the Alabasta picture, though.
-
It's CRAZY I haven't seen a SINGLE PICTURE Of Claires Vivi, or JM's spectacular Luffy, and JM was doing Impel Down Buggy too and OMFG Claire was doing Impel Down Mr.2.. OH MY GOD..I'm SOO ANXIOUSLY awaiting to see ANY pics of them _ They were also supposed to be wearing Lucci and Shuraiya I think? I can't wait to see when they post pics on LJ XDDDDD
Also Jess as Eneru was fucking AMAZING. She's always been my fav Eneru, she just has the GREATEST facial expressions EVER O_O
Yeah, I dropped most of my cosplays for this con. I got sick and stressed nearly to the point of breakdown, so after the second day, we just didn't wear any costumes. I was really happy to have met some of the OP cosplayers though, and Kaizoku group.
Because of how AX turned out, we'll probably try to plan for Fanime next year. Just to wear all the OP costumes we had planned for AX.
-
Maaaaaan, I wish I could've seen you guys as Marines again. Those still are some of my favorite OP costumes. And yet I was still super impressed with all the new costumes.
AX was so awesome. I wish we never had to leave.
-
@junkee– it was still good to see you. My girlfriend and I were laughing when we saw your jesus & buddha cosplay, it was great. Too bad that you couldn't make it, but alas your health is your most important thing.
@palochka-- yea it would've been great for it to last, but then most of us would be broke wouldn't we? Looking forward to all cosplay next ax and fanime.
-
Great Crocodile costume. Thought it was funny that everyone was wanting you to jump in the Alabasta picture, though.
Thanks! Yeah, I wasn't exactly sure if I was supposed to or not.
But man, what a giant Kuma.
-
I am STILL finding small bits of latex in my hair from that Buddha costume. But it was fun to wear at least a few outfits, and I'm really glad I have a girlfriend who takes care of me. Btw, we were so glad to meet you guys, and I totally wore my scholar of ohara ribbon all weekend.
-
@pirateneko:
Awesome pics! There seems to be lot of Team Fortress cosplay going around (Kyra showed me a ton of that a few days ago)
Jess!! <3 http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z208/Spiritus_XIII/AX%20Pictures/DayTwo006.jpg
I LOVE her Eneru, she's so cute!
Freaking amazing! Yeah, I think I remember Klayr was supposed to be that version of Vivi, she looks cute! LOL at that Monster Chopper and Luffy pic XD
That's not me, pirateneko. I ended up not going to the gathering.
-
Im gonna hope Oda shows up for next year since movie 10 is coming out in japan and I'm gonna guess that it'll somehow trickle down over here…hopefully.
-
Oh man! The gathering was AWESOME! I want to punch myself for not having a camera sooner. MY friend went off on me because she hates OP(with the no reason at all. It's stupid) but anyways. Phoneless and Cameraless till like. the end. TT^TT
-
booo shichikou lol your finished our scavenger hunt so fast. how'd you do it?
-

I don't know what I'd do… probably DIE if that happened... seriously... just die ... because I AM GOING no matter WHAT Dx I want to go to AX next year SO BAD ;___; that would be perfect xD a hole horde of OP cosplay heheh just for Oda!
-
booo shichikou lol your finished our scavenger hunt so fast. how'd you do it?
Hahaha.. I teamed up with Boa and Mihawk, we went on some serious hunting in exhibition hall. and getting stopped for photos helps a bit
-
Goddamn, I spent so much fucking money . DVDs, manga, bus/cab fare, food. . . Damn. 2007 i barely bought anything, last year I impulse purchased and have a couple of DVDs I haven't watched, this year I saved up money for AX and had a list in my head of things I want to purchase. . . I mean I'm happy with my purchases but two I really wanted were only available at David Williams' booth and they were both sold-out. From now on I'm just gonna buy stuff that I can't easily find in local stores and buy what I want the most first.
Overall, it was another good year but it was pretty scaled-back and a lot of the things I liked about previous were missing, but that's too be expected. I probably should've talked to Adam Sheehan more, I had some more questions for him, but eh I was afraid I would've spent too much time at the FUNimation booth and I didn't want that to happen this year. I'm sure I'll come back into contact with him in the near future. I was also fortunate enough to learn from a rep at Media Blasters that they've licensed "Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei" and "Moyashimon".
Oh yeah Zach if you're reading this I downloaded Skype, I just need to play around with it a bit. Should I get a headset for the voice-chat? Let me know the latest I can get to you for this weeks' podcast because I'd like to do an Anime Expo 2009 report on there.
-
Did I meet you firecrouch? I met Lc-Lapen at the viz panel were you hanging around?
-

Yeah I was the guy with the red hair sitting next to Lapen.

OH MY GOD.. that sucks soo much x_x;; I'm glad you're okay though, jeez!! What a horrible time for getting sick and stressing out to happen ;___; They'll always be the next con though!! I will be anxiously awaiting those cosplays either way, did you guys get to dress up as the Captain Harlock characters though? Just curious!!

:3 The costumes we got to do were Saint Young Men, Fairy Tail, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, and Captain Harlock.

This is the skit that we did for AX. Looking for the full version. Hope you guys enjoy
-
the skit was GLORIOUS I laughed hard at Buggy and Luffy's interaction and I LOVE BLACKBEARD OMFG!!!! <3
-
Here's the intro that was supposed to be read for our skit, but got lost in the shuffle that is AX Masquerade:
We intrerrupt this Masquerade for a breaking news announcement. An accident has just occured on the Grand Line between two notorious pirates. We now go live to the scene, with Jolly Roger News.

This is the skit that we did for AX. Looking for the full version. Hope you guys enjoy
http://www.acparadise.com/acp/vid/5309/h You'll have to sign up, but it's worth it to see!
-
I had the goofy thought that we should re-record it in a backyard/park somewhere and do ourselves some justice. Maybe add some canned laughter cause damn that audience was dead.
… we could also add some camera angles and Dramatic Zoom-Ins just cause we can.
-
That would be really awesome if you did that. Your skit deserves better.
-
Yeah, I'm pissed they fucked up your guys skit, not to mention I'm sure half those people are like 'Who the fuck is One Piece?' xD But yeah, you guys need to do that, your skit was epic, I wish I could of been there to scream and cheer it on!
-
I honestly can't imagine there were any other cosplayers there that could've looked any better than you guys or had loved the anime they're cosplaying as much as you guys so to me, you won!! Though it STINKS they screwed you over on your skit .. I would've DIED to see it!!
-
Hey guys, here are my photos from AX:
http://s4.photobucket.com/albums/y145/tipsymcstagger/AX%2009/
Pictures from the One Piece gathering start on page 4. I didn't get as many as I would have liked unfortunately. Sorry most of these are really poor quality! This is one of my favorites:
!
-
Ahaha XD that pic is soooo priceless!!!!! I am sooo pumped to make AX next year since I missed the epicness of this year ;___;
-
Daaaaaaaammnnn I have to go no matter what next year TTOTT
I'll probably get bitch slapped for going to Anime Boston AND AX next year but I don't care it will be SO WORTH IT (Forget A-Kon XP)
-
Akon is an ASS convention, really, truely, not even worth it. Most people I know don't even buy a badge for it. I swear Otakon was the BEST convention I'd EVER been too, seriously, and I had to drive 16 hours to get there XDD I enjoyed EVERY MINUTE I was there, I wish I'd gotten to stay longer than one day. That's why I'd rather bite the bullet and actually hit up a convention where people know what the fuck One Piece even IS. I swear, there was only ONE PERSON at Akon cosplaying One Piece I didnt already know, and that was Clark. He was amazing and simply made my whole con almost XDD
I am sooo looking forward to meeting all the One Piece freaks at AX Next year, I am praying everything works out and i can go.
Everyone should make it a goal to make AX next year, then we can all geek out together and play Davy Back games and have a fucking BLAST!!!! My sis is even talking about trying to throw a Foxy together for it.. maybe.. hehehehe
-
I feel so cheated that I spent all that money on a hotel room, the parking, the badge, the REPLACEMENT BADGE (i lost it first thing friday morning, good fucking job me), and then got my bumper ripped up in the parking garage for pretty much nothing at all. You only need the badge to get in the dealers room or the cosplay contest or dances/concerts. Cosplay contest was actually fun this year, minus crappy MC, but that was the ONLY con event I had fun at besides Rocky Horror. Everything else was so blah.
I think A-Kon sucked even harder this year was besides the normal lack of stuff to do, lots of people dropped. LOTS of the people who are usually in our Phoenix Wright/Megaten groups didn't show up at all, so even the photoshoots were not up to snuff.
I was VERY SURPRISED at the lack of OP cosplay, because the 3 years previous I had been there it had been pretty plentiful.
AFest was a blast last year, so I expect it to be awesome this year. Even though its a small con it's always got something going on, and more fan oriented then A-Kon <3 Dating games are going to roooock~
I plan to start making arrangements for AB and AX by December. I originally planned for AX this year and Otakon the next year but I want to hit up AX more, Otakon is the only con I can get my friends from NJ to go to DX If I can FLY from TEXAS you can DRIVE YOUR ASSES to Boston, damn DX They'll go to Baltimore but they won't stop bitching about Boston.
I know I'll have atleast 2-3 other people in my room for AX but we need more then that >_> I'll definately open spots to my fellow OP breatheren who need some crash space because we need to get it cheap, I'm not sure if I can get more friends then 2-3 to come with me, maybe. If Oda is coming then no hardcore OP fan is getting left without roomies!!
-
i might b skipping a-kon this coming next year to go to ax. but only on one condition. lol i wanna b in a skit or something new. i have never done it so i really would like to try it.
-
I am not going to spend a dime on A-Kon next, I will just take the train back and forth like I normally do and probably attend a couple of photoshoots. All my money is going to AX and AB.
I'd love to do a OP skit, it would be fun XD Though I'm farting out on ideas DX It would be better to do something based on the latest events but I've only had ideas for something based around W7 DX Blah.
-
lol we can figure something out you no. lol ill do anyone needed to. like i wanna hav a range of characters. ill do from ace to kizaru idc. we can do it. lol we got til ax next year.
-
If you want to do masquerade, keep in mind that your audience is not necessarily OP fans. There will be plenty of people who aren't current with the series or don't even know it at all. It's better to find a concept that works regardless of if you know the characters.
Also, try to idiot-proof your audio if you can, to account for any MC/audio/lighting mistakes that may happen. :P
-
yeah good advise!!!! i am super excited!! i wanna do something really epic!!!
-
Yeah it still has to be enjoyable no matter what, even though there are some very humorous OP jokes, they're not going to be understood outside of the fandom.
Had that problem at All-Con (which though they put anime in the description, its more of a sci-fi con) my friend did a little monologue with her Hetalia cosplay for the cosplay contest that I was the only person laughing to. It WAS pretty funny, but you had to have an extensive knowledge of the series for it to be funny, so inside jokes will be avoided for the most part, though there has to be SOME fanservice.
If I come up with anything it'll be before the end is out. Definately not doing this on the fly. If other people are interested in making a skit we would need to do some brainstorming sessions, it's no where near as funny if you just let one person come up with the entire thing. I'm not committing to do a skit just yet but, if I get a better idea of what to do then I'd definately like to do one.
Sills, where abouts do you live?
-
in the dallas region of texas
-
I've never really been in a cosplay contest or a skit before XD My friends and I tried one at Mini-con the SHITTIEST Oklahoma con that exists, and we didn't even have microphones and NO ONE got what we were doing because they couldn't hear us, and had NO CLUE who Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, and Usopp were, BASIC simple One Piece characters. Ugh. Oh well xDDD I'm probably not up for a skit, but I'd love to watch them :D I think that people who want to do a skit should get together at the One Piece gathering and perform it, that way people who KNOW the series would GET what was going on, and could record it and HEAR it! That sounds more interesting to me, but I'm no expert at Skits x_x;
-
in the dallas region of texas
Ok same here. There are quite a few OP fans in the region I'm sure we'll be able to round up enough to get a skit going, the only thing will be if everyone can make it to AX or not >_>
I'm REALLY starting to get into those out of con, series-orientated gatherings, they're definitely more fun then the cons themselves for special series orientated fun. It's been a blast with Phoenix Wright and Hetalia so I have no doubts a OP one wouldn't be excellent. Since it's not AX related I'll take that discussion over to the general thread for now but it would be fun ^^
I've only done a walk-on in a contest before, but it was totally last minute XD I know some people who have done skits, and it takes a lot of time and dedication to nail it, and a lot of effort put into the planning, the audio, the acting, and the props/costumes to make it a success.
It'll be hard to make a OP skit that's enjoyable for all THAT DOES NOT INVOLVE a rickroll, a dance off, or any mentioning of "the game". Those should be BANNED FOREVER. I'm so glad they did pre-screening of the skits at A-Kon this year, that totally saved my sanity and made the few skits we DID get to see so much more awesome.
I'm a big user of inside humor, so definately need to brainstorm on ways to make it silly and fun for all without being obnoxiously stupid :P Even if we ended up with a skit that takes place in some not well known outside of the fandom part of the series, if it's engaging and fun it can still be a success even with a bit of the inside humor.
-
Idiot-proofing audio…that would be pretty difficult.
-
Don't have any gaps in your audio. For our Hetalia skit, there's an 8-second gap near the end and so the lights went out and the audio was cut. It came back on halfway into our final few lines and so the meaning was lost and the central gag of our skit was cut.
-
I feel like "One Piece" is gradually gaining more fans over the last few years. I actually saw a lot more "One Piece" cosplay at AX this year than "Naruto" or "Bleach", either that or the margin has been closed. And there was a lot more "One Piece" merch in the exhibit hall this year. Hopefully we'll get to see more non-import merch sooner than later (I swear, all FUNImation's put out are a few trinkets and such from Great Eastern). Good times.
-
Our next skits for Fanime and AX won't be OP related, but we're hoping they'll be idiot proof. At least with Fanime, we get time to do a dress rehearsal a few hours before the show. As for AX…well, looks like we're leaving it to chance. But I'm preparing something that won't matter if lights do not go up right away, and a 3-4 second buffer in case sound doesn't kick in right away.
SOUND BETTER KICK IN FOR OUR AX SKIT RIGHT AWAY THOUGH, NEXT TIME!
-
I found a very good complete quality of our skit on youtube, enjoy.
-
I had the goofy thought that we should re-record it in a backyard/park somewhere and do ourselves some justice. Maybe add some canned laughter cause damn that audience was dead.
… we could also add some camera angles and Dramatic Zoom-Ins just cause we can.
Ooh, that's a great idea! Say, I don't know how close you guys are to Long Beach, but I could point out some good park-type space to film in (complete with ocean background). I was able to shoot a good portion of
in the area. ^^; -

Yeah, sadly I'm one of those people that doesn't bother buying a badge for A-kon anymore. I live in the Dallas area as well, and soon we'll be right by the DART which will make getting there so much easier! I would not mind commuting then, lol! Paying for parking sucks.
As for the con itself, it was alright. I don't really do anything besides hang out with friends I HARDLY ever see. We usually just party or play video games…or watch Tokusatsu and Sentai series lol. Or I will walk around in cosplay for most of the day. The highlight of that con for me was seeing Scuttlebutt again! I feel dumb for spending most of the commission money I made there. I totally could have saved that! Ah! But I mainly got like 3 things for myself, heh. Debating on having a table set up next year....
Anime Fest is surprisingly really fun! I'm looking forward to it this year!
I keep wanting to go to AX, but I doubt I ever will. I figure if I ever want to save up for something that big, I'd rather go to Japan or something. I don't know, because I would love to mingle with hardcore One Piece fans over there, but I don't think I'd want to spend too much money on the con itself.

You guys live up in Addison, right? =O That will be amazing if they put a line up there, that's much easier then going to Plano to get on at Parker for me DX Either way I have a little drive to all of the rail lines, but the little fortune you save on parking is totally worth it (plus weee train ride XD)
PFFFT I think my con highlight was meeting the Scuttlebutt girls as well XD (and even more random that they were also on our floor, I swear half of the people I met at the con was on our floor o.o). I was totally surprised to meet hardcore OP fans who knew who the heck I was talking about (and Hetalia fans to boot XD).
We figured costs for driving ourselves to AX and flying, and you need ALOT of people (10+) carpooling for the costs of driving expenses and your hotel/con expenses to equal what it would cost 5-6/7 or so people for tickets/hotel/con. We had to do a lot of serious persuasian to get people out of the car ride =_= But now that we have a better idea of what it's going to cost hopefully we can make it next year since we can plan a lot earlier.
If you get a decent amount of people in the room (like 6, we generally have 6-7 people in my room at cons, everyone has air mattresses XD) it'll probably cost $500 something dollars just for hotel and the plane ticket (unless you can find a deal and get it super early). Of course you still need your food and emergency money =_= I thought about bringing $1000 to cover everything…. but that is a looooot of money. If I spend $2000 going to Boston and LA next year I will get shot DX It hopefully won't cost as much to go to Boston, because we'll probably stay 3 nights instead of 4 or 5 or whatever it'll be for AX.
And I should totally not bring much loot money because if I have to buy another bag on the plane just to bring stuff back I will get slapped hard.
This is all assuming I can put together $2000 by December or January or so. If not I totally should not try to go to 2 very far out of state cons DX
AFest is totally going to rock <3 Last year was the best experience I've ever had at a con. I think Yulecon will be better this year too, hopefully we won't be up in our room watching me bomb at Halo 3 horribly again DX
-
Animefest is DEFINATELY better than Akon in SOOOOO MANY WAYS, I mean.. it doesn't even COMPARE, isnt' even on the same chart. Animefest is the most fun con I ever get to go to, I'm sad I won't get to go this year, but there's always 2011 when my sis and I are moving to Texas xD
I don't care how much it costs to go to AX. I've never been and I want to go sooo badly no one could even imagine. I've NEVER been to California, and it would be a great experience. I'd love if my friends would try to go to AX, I'd lovet to actually share a room with people I know to make costs cheaper, but I KNOW this will not happen, so my sis and I will be preparing. I know last year at Otakon I only went for one day and only had about 80 bucks to spend after buying the 65 buck admission ticket, so I didn't have a lot of money to spend, but damn did I have fun reguardless. You dont' NEED a lot of money at a big con to have fun, sure it would be preferred, but you don't need it. I'm sure AX will be the same way, traveling and hotel will be the most expensive part as my sis and I will have costumes TOO BIG and FAR too complicated to attempt to fly with x_x; HELL NO.
Getting more ready for TnT today, gotta trim the Nami bangs, spray 200 more coats of paint on the Nami staff, get my Kidd goggles and belt back in wearing condition, get my pony ears attached to my wig, and put on the Nami cosplay to make sure I won't look like a freakin' fool. Soooo close to done :D
