New official Viz media topic V2.

This is a great day for One Piece
-
I'm near tears I'm so happy.
-
This news makes the subbing news nothing special. I'm glad I won't be an old man when Viz gets to Impel Down.

and I wont be in my 40s when this ends.
how much is a sub to Shonen junmp anyways? -
one piece stopped being good a long-ass time ago.
pre-Alabasta, to be marked. -
and I wont be in my 40s when this ends.
how much is a sub to Shonen junmp anyways?'bout $30 for a year.
-
What?
REALLY?! Wow. I can't believe this! This week just keeps getting better and better! I can't believe this! I mean, I knew they had to do something since they were about to finish up the Alabasta arc and Funi was so far ahead with starting in Skypiea…but I was NOT expecting this! I can't believe it. I can't wait to buy all of them when they come out.
-
'bout $30 for a year.
Not bad..sounds like a good deal,, maybe i can get 60 bucks and get 2 subs going on 2 different magazines
Seems also Viz has a Shippuden Zine out for either a week or its been out for a long time
-
Looks like ANN now has an article JUST for this: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-05-14/viz-shonen-jump-to-run-latest-one-piece-chapters
-
Not much more than we already know.
In any case, if VIZ releases anything less than three volumes per month, AL will be muchly annoyed.
-
Kinda neat to see myself get credited for that bit of news. It would be great if they got around to translating those data books too.
-
Well folks it's finally happening. Along with Funimation's simulcast of the Anime, Viz is jumping ahead in the magazine to the current story arc in Japan this fall.
This is awesome news! I can't wait for this to come! ^_^
Also, thanks for the info! -
i hope the books get translated.
Its bad enough everyday i get told that buying the JP books were a waste of money -
Didn't someone ask Viz about the data books and were told there were no plans to translate them? I recall they called them something like, "fan books."
-

-
Whoever tells you that are morons. Reason we buy the Japanese volumes is cause we are hardcore OP fans. I plan to own every volume in Japanese and English eventually.
I told them i buy them for because of the old situation(being 30+ volumes behind)
the response:
why buy them if you cant read them? -
@Brad:

I read that in a Toon Zone article but that Convention was back in February where they didn't drop any hints that they'd be do something this surprising.
-
True. I suppose they could release Red and the second Color Walk.
-
Whoever tells you that are morons. Reason we buy the Japanese volumes is cause we are hardcore OP fans.
I almost want a crack a joke on this.
-
I almost want a crack a joke on this.
They're morons in the regard they think we buy these Japanese books to "read" them. They should know what collecting is.
-
While I agree someone labeling themselves as hardcore just over buying and collecting the japanese volumes with or without the english volumes is kind of overkill.
-
Well, most "casual" fans don't go that extra mile. Unless they got loads of money that they can just spend, that is.
-
I think it's only right to give back to a series that has given me so much; if I had the money, I'd definitely get the Japanese volumes.
-

When and where did you hear about this?
'Cause I figured theres still a chance considering they put out Death Note How to Read 13
-
Death Note is one of the most popular manga in America. They were going to capitalize on that in every way they could. They're going to feel like they're doing enough already for us One Piece fans to bother with a data book for a long while yet.

so thats why the Volume looks odd than the last ones.

I agree. I'm a big One Piece fan, but I don't look forward to blowing all the money I earn on Japanese volumes and tiny One Piece figurines.

This news is mind-boggling. I mean, I think that we were all kind of hoping for it, but that it's really happening comes as such a pleasurable shock. But now that we know that it's happening, there's the question of how it's going to work. I assume that they mean from Impel Down, but I don't know how they're going to deal with the gap. I mean, perhaps between July and October or November they'll release… 30 One Piece volumes or so like they did for Naruto and catch up, but to release 10 volumes a month is simply absurd. Perhaps they'll just skip, but they'll summarize everything between Jaya and Amazon Lily, but that's a COLOSSAL information dump. And if they did that, they'd be serializing chapters that wouldn't get put into volumes for YEARS. Even if they started releasing One Piece at three volumes per month, like they did when they were pushing Naruto ahead, it would take them between a year and a year and a half to catch up.
So the Impel Down chapters that they start serializing around November 2009 wouldn't be put in volumes until around February 2011 or so. But after that, around May 2011 or so, we'd hopefully be only a volume or two behind Japan, and volumes would come out once every two or three months. Every three months would be acceptable if it was necessary so as to avoid catching up to Japan. I mean really, JAPAN has to wait three months, so I think we could too. Every three months at one year behind Japan (or maybe even TWO MONTHS behind Japan, like Naruto, so we'd get each volume only 3-6 months after Japan does) is better than every four months at 33 volumes behind Japan. Either way, I need a way to get enough money to buy all the One Piece manga coming out in the next year...
Which brings me to my final point: Viz is going out on a HUGE limb for us here. One Piece is their third most popular manga that isn't almost done or too short to push like this, and they are giving us just what we want: the ability to read the most recent chapters. SO BUY THE MANGA. It doesn't MATTER that you can't stand the fact that they use "Zolo" now. I don't CARE if they translate Devil Fruits with 4Kids terms. Whatever reasons they have for this don't matter. SHOWING VIZ THAT ONE PIECE HAS FANS THAT ARE WILLING TO MAKE CATCHING UP TO JAPAN WORTH THEIR WHILE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THAT. Just ignore that "l". Use a pen and change it into an "r" if it makes you happy, it's just a semicircle. But PLEASE, don't waste the chance Viz is giving us because of nitpicks against their translation. PLEASE be able to see the forest, not just the trees. There are larger things at stake here than a few translation issues. This could be a major turning point for the One Piece franchise.
-
I'm planning to get the ones that I can get. Since I do know I wan to get Water 7, Enies Lobby, Thriller Bark, etc for now. But I'm planning to get the other volumes when I can.
-
Coolio, hope we get theses new volumes stocked on our shelves in the UK Forbidden Planets, they've been very consistent with their Stocking of One Piece, hope they follow what America does !
-
^^^^Amen.
Im buying all the volumes.
-
Yep, I'm looking forward to Skypiea sitting on my shelf, since that's the ''phase'' of Oda's at that I like the most. The online scans don't do Oda's art justice half the time. Such a difference between the scans and the volumes.
…'course, that means that now I'm going to have to clean out my bookcase of stuff I don't read anymore, since I'm running out of room as it is.
-
I plan to get every volume ,I only have 1,6,8,and 11 and i need to get 2-5,7-8,9-10 and 12-21..
EDIT: guess the raggedy WWF books from 2000-2008 can be thrown away to make room for the one piece volumes
-
I have volumes 1-20 on my bookself. Im a fan that helped alot.

Volume 23 is slated for October. Is this old news?
-
Listen I did some math.
Volume 21 will come out in June. So I won't count it.
So 22 throught 54.
33 volumes.
So Lets say we have
July,August,SeptemberWe have 11 volumes a month.
I doubt thought Viz would put out this much volumes.

I think you mean 22. Just a small typo.
21 comes out in June, 22 comes out in October, and we don't know about anything after that.
-
Bah, I had volume 23 on the mind.
I guess Volumes 23+ will come out later, maybe January?

This man speaks the truth. Please, for the love that is all GOOD and DANDY, support this decision. Don't be hard headed and realize this can change One Piece's future here. Look at the bigger picture.
-
I wonder what RomanGod would think of all this?
[gets junk tossed at him]
-
This is kick butt news! I don't live in the US but I do buy the manga in English. I might start buying Shonen Jump now XD
-

I'm hoping October/November since they're doing the whole catch up thing.
-
Holy crap. This is some damn good news. I'm going to need to make more book storage space for this.
-
Awesome! Can't wait! I really hope we get all the volumes released. My question is, how are they going to release those 33 volumes? 11 volumes a month would seem impractical (though I would love it! XD…I'd just put off buying any other manga for the rest of the year...except maybe Fairy Tail, Bleach, and KHR!). Well one thing I thought was interesting, they could do 4 volumes per month for 8 months - 32 volumes. In that time, 2 volumes would come out in Japan and a 3rd would be about to come out. So the month that 3rd volume comes out in Japan, 3 volumes would come out here, putting us exactly 1 volume behind Japan. The other option is 8 volumes per month for 4 months? I dunno. In any case it would seem they're going straight through volume 54 (well that's my hope). Honestly this exceeds all expectations for me. I THOUGHT it would be leaving the magazine after Alabasta, w/ Skypiea directly to volumes, Water Seven and Enies Lobby running for 2 years in tha magazine, followed by another promo....this is far better, straight to Impel Down~!! =D
-
So wait, do we actually know what Viz is going to do with these unreleased volumes yet? All I've seen is that 22 is coming out in October. Am I missing something?
-
The only way I can see them getting around the huge jump and not screwing over most of the casual readers is to provide a password to access free online chapters like they did for Naruto.
And yes, the listing for Volume 22 for October came out a month or two ago.
-

Sell them to me.
-
@Joe:
Sell them to me.
they range between
Horrible(pages missing and ragged)
to
Medium wear and tear (2005-2009) -
One thing i noticed is they said that Shonen Jump would start showing laster chapters in fall not that the volumes will release faster. they may just make a site where you can read the skypedia arc all the way too hancock. and then they would start showing the chapters in shonen jump. Hey it can happen
