Very nice Moria !
It's weird but I'm particularly impressed by the mouth.

Thanks! I was hoping at least one person would appreciate them. That makes it all worth it.
Here's another non-OP sculpt that I just finished: Dr. Albert Wily, of the classic Rock/Mega Man series.
Awesome lighting shot:

that rocks!!!!
holy shit!
you're getting pretty good

Why do I love your sculpts so much? <3

Dr.Wily is one of your best IMO. Great talent i envy you..

"Kochira… Kizaru..."
No major problems with this guy. The decision not to include his mantle (and epaulettes) was because it wouldn't have fit physically with the other figures on the display. Notable features include his textured jew-fro-ish hair (not really observable here), Denden Mushi wrist communicator, body and arm chunk being reformed by "light," facial hair drawn on with a pencil, and sunglasses whose lenses are triple-layered cellophane (that was a bitch to pull off- it involved super glue). Now I just have to wait another year or two for Akainu and his color scheme; then my admiral display will be complete.
In other news, I hate stripes.
-
Im in awe. It's amazing how well you did his face, considering how realistic it is.
I too like when you take progress pics. You made me consider starting scupting aswell. I've done small figures before, but that Kaku really inspired me to do something bigger!
How long do they usually take to make? -
Nice tints.
16 awesome
-
@El:
How long do they usually take to make?
Simpler ones (Aokiji, Foxy, etc.) have taken 8-10 hours each, while the really big projects (Kaku, Moria) take upwards of 20 hours. Usually I spread the work over several days though.
-
to put it simply, you rock!
-
Extermely impressive, how did you gethe facial hair to work?
-
Why are you so awesome?
-
I fricken love the Moria! It looks official!
-
If you've seen my avatar over the past week, then you've seen these already!
This one's a bit different. I started with the 4 inch tall bust and made the neck peg-like so as to support the different heads. Then I made each head, one at a time, pushing them down onto the peg so that once hardened, they would slide right on again.
In order, left to right, top to bottom, we have:
-Takoyaki eyes (chapter 492, page 16)
-"No effect" (chapter 279, page 12, and chapter 518, page 5)
-"Gomu Gomu no Bou" (chapter 281, page 18)
-"Kokoro Baasan, a mermaid?" (chapter 491, page 3)
-Beat-up after dropping the cash (chapter 325, page 13)
-"Hey, did you eat all the meat?" (chapter 170, page 12)The heads are, obviously, interchangeable, and as such, I may make more in the future.
Here's a preview of what's next:
!
-
Kid or Gear 3rd I'm guessing
-
Wohooooooo, absolutely rocking :3 I like the beat up one the best :3
I think that is the base for Kidd :D -
those are sooo awesome! you're really good!!
Good luck with Kidd.. all those little metal parts would be tough if you ask me
-
i personally thought it was basil hawkins….........the moment he turns into the voodoo monster and tries attacking kizaru with the nails..........could be wrong though
(if it is kidd then im sure the detail on the metal arm will be seriously hard)
either way im sure its gonna be SUPER!
-
I LOVE the facial expressions, and good luck with Kidd!
-
Usually I enjoy myself when doing these (why have a hobby that's not fun?) but Kidd was terrible. As [almost] always, you can't tell from the pictures, but the enormous arm caused inumerable problems (mostly due to the fact that my oven wasn't tall enough for it), and nearly every piece of junk on the arm fell/was ripped off multiple times. Even now the whole thing is teetering back and forth, and I will most likely be awoken in the middle of the night to a blood-curdling crash.
But enough doom and gloom. I got the pictures, so even if it were to blow up now the evidence that it once existed is here. He's 18 inches tall to the tip of the ring finger rifle barrel, tying with Kaku for the tallest fcking thing I've ever made.
In the spoiler tab you'll find lots of progress pictures, alternate angles, and a spread of all the arm junk.
Here's the junk index, going row by row, left to right, starting at the top row:
Row 1: Purple Hilt Knife (across chest), Generic Pistol (also on chest), Random Wheel, Random Gear 2, Fat-Barreled Rifle, Normal Handcuffs, Short Piping, Long Piping, Cannon Segment 1Row 2: Japanese Carpenter's Saw, Generic Sword, Fan Propeller 1, Random Gear 2, Tubing 1, Generic Plate 1, Small-link Chain
Row 3: Hubcap(no cars in OP? huh?), Large Axe, Stacked Plating 1, Large-link Chain, Crocodile's Poison Hook, Modern Art Ying Yang, Screwed Plate, Vented Plate, O-Ring
Row 4: Hand Mortar 1, Saber, Kairouseki Cuffs, Fan Propeller 2, Broken Propeller, Handled Cap, Gladius Dagger, Big Nut, Wire-link Chain, Smoker's Jutte, Anchor
Row 5: Snub-nose Six Shooter, Batarang, Tubing 2, Kunai, Generic Plate 2, Grooved Plate, Mario's Metal Cap, Land Mine, Sea Mine, Gin's Balled Tonfa, Stacked Plates 2
Row 6: Hookshot, Scimitar, Megaton Hammer, Screw Attack, Franky's Nose, Jango's Chakram, Cricket's Gold Bell, Cricket's Gold South Bird (but not really gold), Dalton's Odd Weapon
Row 7: Battle Franky XX's Tom Skewering Harpoon, DK's Steel Barrel, Hand Mortar 2
!

DAMN! That hand looks amazing! Kid's face looks a little roundish and his hair should be more…plentiful. But HOLY CRAP that hand! The painting on the pants is impressive as well.
-
Extremely cool my friend. Extremely.
-
O.M.G. C3, you are the AWESOME!!! –nay, you are SUUUUPAA! insert franky pose here Dang, how come I never thought of doing that?! Oh wait, I know, it's because I lose interest too easily... I started making a Zoro sculpy for my friend once and never finished it, because I fail at finishing things that I start. That and my mom refuses to let me bake sculpy in our/her oven because she thinks it's bad for it. It's NON toxic, boo. >< But I never thought of using the COLORED stuff... isn't it like really expensive or something? How much orange did you have to buy for Kaku????? (by the way, my friend even went 'whoa' at that one.. and he's barely into One Piece. That's just how amazing it is). Because if it's not I totally want to start doing sculpting again. Or I could just be cheap and paint the suckers, but it looks sooo much better with the colors.
BTW, I don't know if anyone's asked this yet--too lazy to read all the awesome comments-- but do you do commisions? I know you said you'd never sell your stuff (though I can think of a few people who would try and find 4000$ for that Kaku, lol), but if you made something for someone specifically that would be different, right? And you could make SO much moneys. Like, Nami bugging out over 3 Million Beri happiness for you there. What do you think?
-
!!!
Let's see, I think there were some questions somewhere inside that beautiful praisesifts
-Sculpey doesn't harm your oven in any way. You just might smell some interesting odors as it bakes.
-The colored stuff is usually around $2 per 2 oz square at most craft stores, but I usually wait for a 99 cents sale or use top secret coupons.
-Kaku only required 2 squares of orange (for the tail and neck frill), but there were at least 17 squares (of all colors) involved, so materials alone were around $40.
-I mentioned in the OP Collectibles thread (after bashing a Blackbeard sculpt on eBay) that I would consider commissions, but the price would be quite high (materials, shipping, and my oh-so-valuable labor time). I also don't know how realistic the idea of shipping them at all would be, because these things are quite fragile. Even with tons of bubble wrap they'd probably arrive in pieces.
 -
One last little project before I go back to school for another 3 months.
The bad experience with Kidd has turned me off from enormous hulking masses for a while, so I've gone the opposite route with these super tiny "One Piece Locations" models. In order, we've got Drum Island, Tower of Justice, Skypiea, and Arlong Park. The tallest, the Tower of Justice, is only 6 inches to the top of flag, so if you look at the compilation picture you can get an idea of how small everything is.
The "ARLONG PARK" text was drawn on with a fine-point sharpy, but "ENIES LOBBY" was done with tiny strips of clay. I just felt I needed to point that out.I may do more of these, but as of now, there's no other "location" that really jumps out at me. Everything in the East Blue is boring, Alabasta is really too big (and no single city is that interesting), Long Ring Long Land is too plain, I simply dislike Thriller Bark, and Shabondy has stripes. I hate stripes. The most likely candidates would be Water 7, other parts of Enies Lobby, or some sort of cross-section-cutaway version of Impel Down showing the insides of all the floors.
Details list:
Drum Island: Towns of Bighorn, Cocoaweed, Gyasta, unamed town, ropeway to central Drum Rocky, Drum Castle, and Hiruluk's jolly roger on the rightmost turret (it's a spot of pink).Enies Lobby: nothing interesting really. The guardrail is made of wire?
Skypiea: Angel Beach, Conis' house, Lovely Street w/houses and shops on floating clouds, Milky Road to Upper Yard, Sliced House on North (left) coast, Sacrificial Altar south (right) from there, Ruins of Shandora farther south, Giant Jack, Ohm's ruins territory, God's Shrine, and Golden Belfry.
Arlong Park: Rocky ledge where Hachi fishes from, metal gate in the water, double gazebos with shark heads, lovely palm trees, villagers' rice paddies, mermaid fountain (in front of left palm), and fully-detailed Arlong jolly roger.
Anyway, enjoy.

you freaking rock.
awesome Arlong Park, btw
-
are the buildings hollow, if so is it because it would save material or anouther reason?
-
WOW!! That's amazing! The details is really well done and the colors look really good.
I think Arlong Park is my favorite.
-
Hey CCC, your sculpts are amazing, I think my favourite two are Kidd & I really loved the detail you worked into the Kizaru, getting his facial expression just right. Keep Sculpting.
-
Oh shit these are awesome!
I can't wait to see your next project
-
kidd looks cool, i never thought you would do any buildings or structures but they are neet, fingers crossed we will one day see thousand sunny, btw what's your next idea's? are you going to carry on with the Shabondy theme or have you got something fresh in mind
-
are the buildings hollow, if so is it because it would save material or anouther reason?
Nah, not hollow. As mentioned, even Enies Lobby is only 6 inches tall, so it barely used more material than, say, one of Moria's arms.

Nah, I'd never do Thousand Sunny. There are already at least 5 different official models sold by Bandai and other companies, so I don't see a point in that (that's just my mentality). I've got nothing in mind now, but that's fine because I can't do any art for the next 2.5 months (at college).

ah dude that sucks:sad:
i was really looking forward to more creations, oh well…perhaps you will do a John giant sculpture to make up for this injustice..lolsets clock 2.5months
-
Tower of Justice XD
You did my favorite building in one piece very well.
-
Holy Crap man that is some mega awesome figures you made!
-
All of them are very impressive, but the Kaku is amazing…. Do you ever bake your clay? or air dry clays only?
-
This is a good thread.
I think everyone should look at it.
-
is there any chance that you start a project with the amazon girls ??
I like your Moria and the Arlong it most….. -
Every sculpt owned!! I can't even pick favorites. Few people still do sculpting [god knows I don't], and I'm very impressed!
Damn, I'm finding a lot of interesting artists here in AP. I joined here for the manga updates & discussions, really great that I also discovered other talented artists as obsessive about OP as I am xD
-
@Hyoujin:

It's all baked.

You've found my weakness. I can't do super-smooth surfaces for shit, so any feminine body I tried to make would end up lumpy and positively unfeminine looking. So yeah. My bookshelves are pretty much hosting an enormous sausage fest.

I concur. In fact, someone suggested we add little updates to the website from time to time with information and such from the forums. Do you mind if I add a link to your thread on the main page? Probably an image too…
-
mind? MIND?
of course not. I'd be honored.
My periods of doing art are sort of sporadic, so there will be long dry spells between updates, but if that's not a problem, then sure. -
K, cool. Only thing I would suggest is to clean up the first post and add all the sculpts (especially OP ones) to it with links to the 'in progress' pages/posts. Note: I am on my cell so I didn't check the first post to see if it is kept updated or anything…

You might possibly be able to sand? I make dolls out of clay in my spare time aside from sewing and none of mine ever come out smooth, a nice rough then fine grade sand paper cover up all my mistakes. (BTW, I love Skypiea! I wish I had one for in my doll house)

Its all Oda style fault because the body of those womans is a bit to unnatural to hold the above body
Lola should not be a problem to make for a skilled person like you ???

Done and done. Also added a little introduction. Should I put each separate piece in a spoiler tag (in the first post)? Or is that unnecessary?

I tried sanding once, but when it comes to these complicated figures with flailing arms and little breakable pieces, the idea of sticking my hand anywhere near them and rubbing really hard seems like a bad idea. What clay did you use though? I might give it another try.

Pshaw. You give me too much credit! Maybe in time though…

Actually, good sand paper doesn't require a lot of hard rubbing. I've worked with numerous types of clay and resin and have only had one thing break on me, but that was because I dremeled it too much.
I use mainly sculpey II and Fimo if I'm going to oven bake. I avoid Sculpey III, it has a tendency to break really easy. I use air dry paper clays alot when I make larger scale dolls.

Is sculpey II colored? I don't think I've ever seen it in my craft stores. But I know what you mean about breaking. Kaku's neck has an enormous crack in it. O_O
