MPlayer OSX Extended
If i'm not mistaken then the "unusual formatting" is a bunch of spaces and line breaks. Ask an mplayer developer why it isn't taking them. If at all we'll probably gonna avoid similar situations by simply using hard line breaks instead of ditching softsubs altogether just because of a triviality. We hold our "insignificant quality gains" dear, you know ;-)
If you have mkvmerge/extract you can remux it with this v2. Now the names at that scene are displayed in the correct order even on VLC so that's failsave. My VLC 098a still displays one line break too many so try it with the other two players or if that doesn't work open it in a notepad and delete one of the /N, those are the line breaks.

WHAT?! Where is the psp, iphone, and ps3 compatible versions Elric? Also, why don't you have a stream that works on the 3g network? You guys are so lazy… Well, I'll let it slide this time. You know... I spoil you ;)
-
Maybe it's just all the AMV's I watch, but I've never had a problem with codecs. I can get WMP to play damn near anything and whatever it doesn't play, Media Player Classic will.
Isn't downloading a super mega codec pack one of the first things you guys do when you get a new computer?
-
I'm gonna start dling scripts and opening it in aegis or something or encoding it myself
-
I just got an HD tv, and I wanted to watch this in HD, but the format you use isn't being picked up by my Xbox as a video file. I watched movies and tv shows through my Xbox 360's Flash Drive port. And well is there a way to have HD quality in another file format than the one you are using.
-
…This isn't exactly rocket science...
Funny enogh I am studing rocket science! :D
My question was rather meant to be funny than acctually doubting your HD encodings. However I appreciate your willingness to answer short questions lenghtly :) -
thanks you very much

i just convert the .mkv (which i can already watch with Perian on my imac) into a .avi with MKVtools 2.1
I bring my Ps3 over to my buddies house every week with a new episode.
works great.
btw, you guys rock.

That's a Mac program, I can't find a windows counterpart.

Thanks for the episode, but whats with the stupid way you have Duval talking?
Seriously is this necessary?
-
It so is… for the sake of allowing the translators a little fun if nothing else.
-
Duval speaks with a hick accent when he gets emotional, so to preserve the character he was translated with a stereotypical hick accent. A lot of translators did the same. Genesic did it for Null's scanlation, and Stephen and Carlos Net did it in their translations, so phrasing Duval's speech to transfer his accent is apparently the accepted practice among translators.
-
Yeah, after reading it that way in the manga, I was very glad that you guys did it the same way.
-
Alright. If its in the manga then nevermind then. I once saw a scanlation that had Blackbeard speaking in a similar way. Does he do that in the manga?
-
I was actually really happy to see they preserved Duval's Speech quirk

Well, Stephen apparently didn't have Blackbeard speak with the accent, or make a note that he had one, and Null's translators, including Oceanizer, and a few speed-scan translators (I think skywalker was the main one around then) didn't either, so I would assume that he didn't.
NBST gave a lot of accents to their characters that I never saw any other translator use. They had Blackbeard with a Texas accent, Pelona with a French accent, Hogback with a German accent, Moria with some sort of odd accent I'd never heard of, and maybe some others. But as I said, no other translator did it, and NBST always gave credit to a few translators if you look at their credit page, so I think they didn't even do their own translation, just cobbled one together from the existing translations. So I think they just gave the characters accents that they thought would fit how the characters looked. Because One Piece fans LOVE it when characters are given accents based only on their looks, right? I mean, wasn't that part of what made the 4Kids dub so endearing?
Though it'd probably be best of somebody who can actually read and/or speak Japanese well enough to know how they write out accents said whether or not the characters actually have the accents that NBST gave them. I can only guess based on how things appear to me, because I can't read Japanese.

Script's on our site.
About that… why put out the script if the video you release is already subbed? I tried using it, but it just ends up giving me two subs over each other.
What am I supposed to do with the script?

I didn't think you'd have it in you,… but that was totally droll
-
I don't know what that means! :(
-
Amusing in a surprisingly cute way. The script is for the impatient folks that have, while we were still subbing, helped themselves to a RAW japanese video and are looking for 1st-rate premium hightech-subs to grace it with.
-
I think I saw a megavideo version with some asshole who removed your credits : /
-
well, as long as they don't hardcode their website logo into any of the corners, I can't complain too much. I mean, its one thing to remove credits, but adding their own site's spam is even worse…
