I've never heard of it being used to describe someone's traits. The most common and in my opinion, appropriate translation would be lover.

RE: Reccomended fansub groups from 340 onwards?
Or I assume you're a fat nerdy kid that gets kicks out of trying to be cool on an online forum.
Yeah, I can see how this is just a compliment "coming out the wrong way" :wassat:

RE: How should Fansubs be made?
"How should Fansubs be made?"…. However the fansubber wants!-----Votes: 1
This has been drawn out for so long that there is clearly no "right" answer(Yeah, I put em in quotes for you Rin ;). I've personally changed my mind multiple times, and unfortunately, that threw a wrench in the whole consistency factor, but I can't say varying translation styles have really ruined my viewing experience, or even phased it in the past. I never even noticed the issue until I visited this site. I agree with sd in that this thread will hardly change anything, but hey, who doesn't like a good argument? I miss skull kid... sockpain's sarcasm never hits 100% until that kid shows up...

RE: Vegapunk 337+ funny sounding translations?
well, i think some examples might help answer the question, seeing as there are generally very few complaints about VP's quality… In the end though, I personally believe accuracy+high pic quality is more important than awkward phrasing. I watch anime for the show/storyline and not for the subs. That's not to say good subs are unimportant. Anyways, does this thread even belong in here?

RE: Funimation Cancels One Piece Simulcast
Now if they had just subbed the thing, and then didn't upload it until showtime, they'd have been fine.Who the hell is going to bother waiting a day for a fansubber when you could get it in an hour, with a professional translation, in HD quality?
HD quality? Really? That's sick.

RE: FUNimation Simulcast Discussion

RE: Batch Release - and Requests?
@Skull:
No, I mean if you are archiving One Piece as far as having all the episodes subbed on your hard drive, what are you using for the episodes between when Vegapunk stopped using hardsubs and when Nakama first started? I'm guessing just Vegapunk scripts, but I just thought I'd ask to be sure anyway.
Ah, I see. Well, I don't archive one piece personally, but if I did, I agree that consistency is worth maintaining. That being said, I would probably just wait for k-f and save only their versions. Switching up groups means switching up translation styles which kills consistency in my opinion. But yeah, for archival purposes, its definitely nice to maintain consistency. I have rarely switched up groups in something I consider archive worthy.

RE: General Anime Discussion Thread
u should write a tut. I've been trying to rip timings from chinese dramas forever, and still can't figure out avisubdetector.

RE: Batch Release - and Requests?
if u are asking me, then I'm not sure I understand the question. I mean, what stops someone from archiving an mkv? I've archived mkvs for many shows in the past. If you are asking how to turn one into a hardsub, I use meGUI to make my mp4 hardsubs in general, though there are many other options.
