RE: You know that you're obsessed with One Piece when…
you when you're obsessed with one piece when after reading all the manga, watching the anime, you realise manga is king.you start collecting manga, and if you are poor, start collecting scanlations.you keep checking out the manga and troll on onepiece wiki to see things you would have missed before, like the design of zoro's swords.you keep stalking scanlation groups and your favourite deviant artists for content.you spot pandaman, not on chapters but on volume's cover.you try to collect whatever you can, from wherever.you waste around your whole day on a one piece forum, write a post about when you're obsessed with one piece,at 3:30 in the morning.

RE: Funimation DVD Discussion III (Please Check First Post for FAQ)
May I ask, why not? It's just because I want to avoid spoiling the entire story of the CP9 Saga. I'd rather watch the anime version first.
what's this talk of not reading manga before anime?prepostorous!
well,it's your choice, though i strongly suggest to read the manga.good quality scans are much better for viewing,or reviewing.
if you do decide to read manga,i recommend downloading instead of reading online,if you don't plan on reading the physical manga.also, avoid the alabasta arc/jaya arc for reading now. -

I'm a little sad that the granny didn't obliterate Caribou. But at least we will get to see "you know who" one installment sooner. The thing I don't get, just what is Caribou asking the old lady? I can't make anything out of this. Is it the Japanese symbol for harbour? A doodle of a ship with a question mark on top? I mean, there is already a sign which points to the direction of the harbour, so it can't be harbour related. Or is that the joke? To show what an idiot he is?Alright, now comes the part where things get weird. I like that Usopp and Nami get the badly needed time in the sun, but everything about it screams forced. Nami even uses the words I bet most had in mind there "damn she did nothing so far, she needs a fight". Sorry, but these alibi-performances are a real letdown and insulting to the characters involved. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but at this point I would prefer Robin (who was no better than a lifeless doll during the whole arc) to stay back and watch the show till Punk Hazard is over. Give her a real role in the next arc and I will forget about it Oda, but please stop this forced crap. I understand that he loves his characters and wants them to do something fancy, but there is nothing wrong with keeping them low till their time comes.
That drawing could be caribou asking for kaidou.though i'm not sure.
about the nami and usopp part,i think it was handled very well.the situation seems opposite of forced.except by SH,that is.see, usopp and nami themselves force law to let them fight.almost all of SH have at some point or other, shown inclination to fight certain opponent.usopp and nami wanted to fight these 2 because they were running away, and had presumably admitted defeat.so they felt like they could beat them easily.they grabbed their chance,as they were tired of running.luffy convinced law because they wanted to fight.remember when zoro fought with mihawk at baratie,he stopped yosaku and johnny from interfering?i think this is similar to that.
16 characters of get the fuck out
yup,i'm the only one.:ninja:
[sarcasm off]it was a joke.go read some memes.
seriously though, among all the crap the've put in their releases, this was the the only tolerable one.i personally liked some memes, like the crocodiles"i don't always" and the franky one. -
RE: Chapter 695: Leave it up to me!
good chapter.not great, but yeah it was pretty good.
franky reveals a new attack and defeats baby-5 and buffalo.and people thought he'd barely hold them back.
also,he really is somewhat dumb.fighting them without realising what's their motive.also,http://www.mangareader.net/one-piece/695/8
in this page it looks like he is shocked by their determination, and it sounds like he is willing to give ceaser to them, though i'm not sure about that.
and again we see the staring gag.and he even manged to sneak in that girl.oh.oda!you
about the heart seat thing,it most probably is a mis-translation.if it's not, then it could be what everyone is saying.i found it weird that they included smoker and the marines in the "the're enemies" panel.sure, they are pirates but he isn't exactly an ally of SH and Law.
then, oda shows it as it is and usopp and nami fights for their limelight."you've cut a mountain, how much limelight do you need?"
and i think it's somewhat expected that zoro didn't knew about the alliance.he wasn't there.though he should have known by talking to usopp at the entrance to the lab.
i'm confused about the water thing. usopp says-"i'll give you some water".do they need a a special type of water to grow?
nami seems to have found a way to control her lightning.and the the mysterious shadow.it could be anyone.really.
also,
am i the only one around here who found these new memes funny?:ninja:
edit:also,i think those bracelets are something every shichibukai has.i think jimbei had one, though i don't remember where.

[HIDE] Robin and Zoro: Why I like them
I’m going to keep this short as my dissection of the manga will focus on this more in-dept, but basically I think the two of them get along best and have the best chemistry. They also look good together. ;) Oh and are my two favourite characters. xD
Analysis: Robin and Zoro in the Manga:“I don’t trust you” ~ End of Alabasta Arc ~ Rough Beginnings, Subtle Inconsistencies
http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/dont-trust-robin.jpg?w=234&h=354http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/dont-trust-robin-2.jpg?w=232&h=352
The first time they speak to each other, Zoro tells Robin he doesn’t trust her and that he’ll be watching if she tries anything. Robin just smiles. It’s not unusual that Zoro doesn’t trust Robin given that she was the right hand assassin of Corocodile, the man who tried to ruin Vivi’s country and kill the Straw Hats. What is unusual is that when the two are looking for a South Bird, not long after they reach the next island, Robin tells Zoro not to kill the insects and he listens to her. What’s odd about this is that Zoro rarely takes orders from anyone as it isn’t his style. He only listens to Luffy as he is the captain (and Nami when they are navigating).
http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/robin-and-zoro-in-jaya.jpg?w=200&h=300http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/zoro-uses-his-blunt-sword.jpg?w=204&h=300Another interesting point here is that Zoro still tells her he doesn’t trust her and not to give him any suggestions, yet he does as she asks. Clearly, her opinion matters to him, whether or not he wants to admit it. ;) Also, before this scene the two have not really interacted much as Robin kept herself quite distant on Jaya (see below – she’s sitting “away” from the rest of the crew), so it’s definitely not a case of them becoming closer and like I said, Zoro still says he doesn’t trust her. So really, their relationship dynamic hasn’t changed, Robin is still the “outsider” and these early panels (above) show that perhaps the tough swordsman isn’t so oblivious to our cute Robin-chan as he would like her to think. ;)http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/robin-distant-in-jaya.jpg?w=207&h=300
“She’s a women” ~ Skypiea Arc ~ Strange ParallelsSkypiea Arc is probably the most shippy arc for them as their dynamic changes and there is an odd parallel that takes place between Zoro and Wiper (but more on that later).
http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/when-robin-talks-zoro-listens.jpg?w=187&h=300The first thing to notice here is that Zoro actually listens to what Robin is saying and he actively engages in conversation with her. Prior to this, he was typically not interested and often was off snoozing somewhere (see below). These moments also give us a peek into their slowly changing dynamic. Not just Zoro, but the whole crew is slowly beginning to accept Robin as one of their own.
http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/zoro-sleeps.jpg?w=197&h=300An early Zoro (before Ussop and Sanji joined the crew) snoozing.http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/zoro-sleeping.jpg?w=176&h=278http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/zoro-sleeping-2.jpg?w=190&h=300Zoro sleeping not long after the crew enters Grand Linehttp://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/zoro-falls-asleep-anywhere.jpg?w=197&h=300Zoro falling asleep after Crocodile imprisons themAs you can see, it’s pretty easy for Zoro to just fall asleep and zone out of the affairs of the crew, yet once Robin is introduced, we never see him sleeping when she’s around. It can be said that he finds her stimulating. ;) Also worth noting is that Zoro has shown on at least one occasion to not really take what Nami says seriously (see below), yet he’s never done this to Robin. Clearly, out of his two female crew mates, he respects Robin a lot more.http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/zoro-lack-of-respect-when-nami-talks.jpg?w=190&h=300This dynamic is also reflected in how much faith he has in each lady’s combat skills. In the case of Nami, Zoro does not believe she can protect herself and the moment he gets separated from her during a dual battle, he begins to worry about her safety:http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/zoro-doesnt-think-nami-can-take-care-of-herself.jpg?w=207&h=300In the case of Robin though, when he gets separated from her and Luffy, the thought that Robin would be defenceless alone does not cross his mind. He just thinks about getting to the meeting spot:http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/robin-and-group-will-be-fine-zoro.jpg?w=197&h=300Now this may seem like it makes Nami more important to Zoro as he’s actively worrying about her, but the funny thing is, Zoro’s relationship to Nami and Robin strangely parallels Wiapa’s relationship to Aisha and Lucky. This strange parallel is quite telling given that Wiapa’s relationship to Aisha and Lucky is pretty clear cut. One is a little kid that he wants to protect and the other is someone he sees as a woman.http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/waiper-zoro-parallel-1-aisa-nami.jpg?w=300&h=216First parallel happens when Nami and Aisha accidentally ride into the battle field. Zoro and Wiapa quickly jump to their defence and ask them what the heck they are doing on the battlefield, as in both of their minds, these two are protection items that aren’t meant to be here. This parallel suggests that Nami is like a little sister to Zoro, one he feels obligated to protect. This isn’t strange if you consider that Zoro and Nami were Luffy’s first two crew mates and have been journeying together for quite some time now. In the case of Aisha, she’s a fellow Cyandian.
http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/waiper-luki1.jpg?w=207&h=300http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/enel-sex-not-a-factor1.jpg?w=208&h=300
When Enel appears next to Lucky, Waipa desperately asks him not to do anything to her, so much so that he clutches the barbed wire and bleeds. Enel replies that to him that sex is not a factor when punishing those who oppose him. I’m not sure if there was something lost in translation or if Enel deduced that Waipa wanted Lucky spared because he saw her as a women, but either way, it’s pretty apparent that Lucky isn’t just a regular warrior to Waipa. This is the first we see him so desperate to save someone and I think it is a pretty clear connection to make that he is this desperate because Lucky is special to him. Hell, even Enel picks up on it.
http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/robin-is-shocked-by-enel.jpg?w=202&h=300http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/zoro-saves-her-from-falling-to-the-ground.jpg?w=200&h=300http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/zoro-loses-his-cool.jpg?w=202&h=300
Now the curious thing is, a few chapters later, Enel does the exact same thing to Robin and Zoro replies with the exact same sentiments as Wiapa. What’s more, he rushes to catch her as she is falling and places her gently on the ground before he proceeds to attack Enel. Now this is just one moment in a very long running manga, but it was this moment that sold me on the shipping actually having a chance (not that it means it will happen for sure). These three panels are quite telling for a number of reasons. First, Zoro and Robin aren’t yet that close. Last we heard on Jaya, he still didn’t trust her. Yet this scene tells a whole different story. He cares, because he catches her and proceeds to rush Enel. What’s unusual here though is that their relationship has transformed so quickly. Zoro didn’t really trust Nami until he learned her past, whereas it’s entirely reversed here. Zoro clearly already cares deeply for Robin. Deeply enough that he gets pissed off when Enel attacks her. The next unusual thing is that Zoro actively calls out against Enel for not discriminating based on sex. What’s weird about this is that Zoro has never really cared about sex in the past. When Kuina cries that she’s going to become weak when she grows up because she’s a girl, Zoro angrily replies that she is his rival and he won’t accept that (see below). Furthermore, when Tashigi accuses him of not taking her seriously because she is a woman, Zoro replies that her sex has nothing to do with it, it’s her resemblance to his dead friend (Kuina). This is further showcased when he engages both male and female bounty hunters on Whisky Peak without much discrimination. Clearly, sex isn’t really a factor for Zoro, yet here he objects to Enel’s attack on the basis of sex (“She’s a woman”). This suggests that while he normally doesn’t see females as women, she sees Robin as a woman. This interpretation is further supported by the parallel to Wiapa, who likewise sees Lucky as a women and pleads on the basis of her sex that Enel spare her. Furthermore, both men aren’t very expressive of these emotions. Lucky is terrified of Wiapa and probably doesn’t have a clue that he feels anything for her. In fact, outside of that moment, there was never anything that really suggested Wiapa loved her, which is very much like Zoro. These two clearly only let their true feelings show when their loved one is hurt. ;)

Robin’s Betrayal ~ Water 7/CP9 Arc ~ An Evil Face, the Demon Asura
After Skypiea, we clearly see that Zoro and Robin are no longer strangers. So when a certain stranger appears and starts talking about Robin betraying them, the Strawhat pirates are not pleased. While most of the crew actively show anger and frustration, Zoro remains quiet. Nonetheless, when it matters most, he shows what he really thinks.
http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/zoro-steps-up-first-against-aoji.png?w=202&h=300That is, when Aoikiji begins his attack on Robin, Zoro is the first to move in and defend her. No hesitation. Clearly, in his mind, Robin isn’t a traitor and Aoikiji’s words have little effect on him. What’s more interesting is that when Aoikiji first begins talking to the Strawhats, Zoro is located the furthest away (see below), so he must have reacted right away when he saw Aoikiji make the ice sabre. Another interesting thing about this is that usually it is Sanji, the ladies man, that jumps, with no hesitation, at every opportunity to protect a lady. Yet here Zoro was the first to react.
http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/zoro-standing-at-the-end-when-aoikiji-comes.jpg?w=203&h=300When Robin does betray the group, just as Aoikiji warned, Zoro remains oddly claim about the situation, something that is quite unusual for the hot headed swordsman.
http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/robins-betrayal2.png?w=203&h=300http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/robins-betrayal3.png?w=203&h=300
He mentions that he has no opinion on whether Robin really betrayed them or not in order to refrain from being taken by surprise if his beliefs turn out to be wrong, but I suspect that this is his way of cooping with the shock of her betrayal. In fact, later on, the manga strongly suggests that Zoro was very much affected by Robin’s betrayal. After her declaration and once he learns of her past, he meets up with Kaku again to fight for his key. The latter states that he was disappointed that he was unable to witness Zoro’s true strength in the Gally-La mansion and Zoro affirms this by saying he is a lot stronger than he was then (see below). Now given that Zoro has not been training since that incident as the crew went directly to Enies Lobby to rescue Robin, I think it’s pretty easily to deduce that Zoro is stronger now because all his inner turmoil about Robin betraying the group has disappeared. He and Robin are quite similar in the sense that they rarely let others see their true emotions, albeit Zoro is much more of a hot head and does let his anger show from time to time. Their similar disposition is one of the reasons I really like them together. One last thing to note about the scene below is that Kaku notes that Zoro’s spirit is giving off ominous beast like vibes. I wonder why? Could it be that he is really pissed off at CP9 and how they used Robin’s trauma against her? Or maybe after hearing how they abused his dear Robin, he’s eager for some vengeful blood? My, my the possibilities~
http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/zoro-fights-kaku.jpg?w=204&h=300Which reminds me, after he hears Robin’s story, his face looks, according to Nami, “evil” (see below). My, my, now why would Zoro’s face be so disfigured by Robin’s past? Perhaps he’s really ticked off that these CP9 losers had the gall to mess with his Robin. ;)
http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/zoros-evil-face-after-robins-confession.png?w=203&h=300And the thing is, this is the first time we see Zoro look so pissed off by the big bad playing with the feelings of a female crew mate. When Crocodile tormented Vivi by describing what he shall do to her country, Zoro looked angry (just like the other Strawhats), but nowhere near his expression above. Even Nami isn’t aware why he has such an evil face, because Zoro isn’t one to go around and proclaim his feelings, but they show when it matters and others take notice. ;)
http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/zoro-after-hearing-what-crocodile-wants-to-do-to-alabasta.jpg?w=196&h=300The other interesting thing about Robin’s betrayal is how differently Zoro reacted to it when compared to Nami’s. Like I showed before, Zoro was oddly calm and rational when approaching the possibility that Robin betrayed them. When it came to Nami, however, he had no problem thinking of her as an enemy the moment she betrayed them:
http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/nami-betrayal.jpg?w=216&h=361Why is that? Well I think it’s because Zoro didn’t feel anything for Nami. Her betrayal didn’t hurt him in the way that Robin’s did and as such he had no qualms about potentially having to slit her throat. Robin, on the other hand, he was very much attracted to, so when the very real possibility arises that she betrayed them (especially troubling since Aoikiji warned them about it), Zoro puts up a calm facade and tries to think rationally as that is the only thing he feels he can do in the case where someone he truly cares for has betrayed him. Again, this is especially telling where Zoro, once he learns the truth, is able to wipe the floor with Kaku, whereas before he had trouble taking on Kaku (who was actually weaker then because he did not have his devil fruit powers). Even Kaku states as much!
http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/zoros-asura.jpg?w=257&h=374What’s even more interesting is the new attack Zoro shows in his fight with Kaku, Asura. When Zoro does his Asura move, he appears to have 3 heads, and 6 arms. Why does this sound familiar? Oh wait, doesn’t Robin fight by reproducing her limbs? Quite a coincidence that Zoro’s new move seems to be inspired by Robin, isn’t it? Especially since he’s trying to rescue her and desperately at that if his face and spirit is anything to go by. ;)
http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/zoro-won-key-number-5.jpg?w=240&h=348http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/zoros-key-unlockes-robins-handcuffs.jpg?w=238&h=348
And look which key just happens to unlock Robin’s handcuffs. Yes that’s right, Zoro’s! Quite a subtle nod there Oda, quite a subtle nod! I like it! This alone may look meaningless, but when considered with everything that has already transpired between them, it really feels like another subtle nod that these two go together.
Comrades in Arms ~ Thriller Bark & Sabody Arcs ~ More Robin and Zoro momentsNow after Skypiea and Water 7, the Zoro and Robin moments die down, but there is still a few to be had. Perhaps Oda didn’t want to introduce romance into his story, especially given that when asked who the Straw Hats loved, he answered adventure. If he had kept ZoRobin going so strong in the next few arcs, I think it would have moved from ambiguous and more and more into canon. So he definitely toned it down, but it’s still there from time to time.
http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/09/zoro-makes-sure-robin-is-ok-on-thriller-bark.jpg?w=297&h=439When the crew first lands on Thriller Bark, after Usopp, Chopper, and Nami go missing in the scouting ship, something attacks robin. The page following that attack (above), we see both Sanji and Zoro next to her. Sanji being next to her is pretty normal given he never misses an opportunity to protect a lady, but Zoro? That’s is rather unusual for him, unless we look at this from the angle of her being special to him. ;)http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/09/a-mans-pride.jpg?w=306&h=459One of the most interesting scenes between them is after Luffy tames Kerberos, a zombie with two dogs heads and a fox head, Robin teases the beast by saying it doesn’t look so good. Zoro replies with, “don’t pity him, you’re hurting his pride.” (the “Weeell” isn’t very Zoro-like and based on what Zoro says in the anime, I am guessing whoever translated this was a bit too liberal here). It is interesting that Zoro felt the need to go out of his way to tell Robin not pity a man because it will hurt his pride. Is he really talking about Kerberos here? That would be the surface/basic reading, but why would Zoro care about the pride of some random zombie dog? I don’t think he does. I believe when he says those lines, he is referring to himself. He would never want Robin to pity him and we all know Zoro’s pride is pretty damn important to him. Why did he feel the need to make this communication? because obviously he doesn’t want the woman he cares about to take pity on him. To someone like Zoro, it would be a pain worse than death. In Zoro’s mind, he wants Robin to see him at his very best. Furthermore, by even making this communication, he is stating that he feels Robin can understand him. That if he says “don’t pity him because you’re hurting his pride”, Robin will understand him enough to realize that it is something important to Zoro and will respect it. There is a sense of mutual understanding in this exchange. There is also a sense of esteem of Robin. In the case of Nami, there is a sense that she just doesn’t get “a man’s romance”. As she is always getting angry at the male crew mates for fooling around. Robin doesn’t do this and as such, Zoro feels she will be able to understand where he is coming from. This is reinforced in the later fight against Oars:
During the fight, Franky begins something he calls “Pirate Docking” where each member of the Straw Hats “docks” on Franky to form the Robot Warrior, Big Emperor. Robin refuses to join in saying it is an embarrassment as a human being to do that. Interestingly enough, Zoro promptly laments the fact that he even did it in the first place. In contrast, Sanji shows no such remorse. What’s going on here? Well, Zoro is mortified that he did something uncool in front of Robin. Like I said above, Zoro wants Robin to see him at his best. Unlike Sanji, whose affection is rather shallow, Zoro really cares deeply for Robin and the idea that he did something she called “an embarrassment as a human being” is mortifying to him. There is also another subtle nod to the pairing, but not important enough to warrant showing another page, that happens before the fight with Oars. When Chopper and Robin get cornered by Zoro and Sanji’s zombies, Zoro’s zombie takes on Robin.
After the “pirate docking”, Zoro decides to start an offensive against Oars and who does he ask to help him? Robin, of course~ This is one of my favourite ZoRobin moments because it shows that Zoro respects her as his equal in a fight. He believes her able to handle herself in a fight, so he asks her to team up with him. It’s one of the many reasons I like them together. :)
http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/09/robin-saves-zoro.jpg?w=306&h=445
Robin also saves Zoro when he falls, which is another nice nod to the pairing, especially since (if I recall correctly) she only saves Zoro and Nami this way during the whole fight. Since Zoro is the only dude saved by Robin that Oda felt like drawing, I can’t but help but feel like this is another subtle nod to the pairing. And this isn’t the only time either:
During the Sabody arc, right when Zoro was about to be killed by Kizaru, all the Straw Hats stand transfixed as Zoro is about to meet his doom. All except Robin, who tries to desperately rescue Zoro using her devil fruit powers. Alas, she fails and Kizaru just steps on Zoro to prevent her from dragging him off, but it is a nice way to show just how much Robin cares by having her be the one desperately trying to save Zoro from imminent death. Thankfully for the Straw Hats, Rayleigh shows up and occupies Kizaru. Another interesting parallel is that when Kuma is sending the Straw Hats off, Zoro is the first to go and Robin is the last (well if one doesn’t count Luffy and in this case I don’t because the idea was that Luffy was slowly losing his comrades, starting with Zoro and ending with Robin).
http://soaringwingsblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/09/robin-knows-about-what-zoro-did.jpg?w=306&h=447
Finally, at the end of the Thriller Bark arc, Zoro decides he will sacrifice himself to save Luffy. He luckily survives, but refuses to tell the others what happened to him. It is mainly because he does not want Luffy (and the others) to feel guilty. The interesting thing is, 3 of the Straw Hats do learn about what he did: Brook, Sanji, and Robin. Brook sees it with his own eyes (or whatever he uses to see), Sanji hears about it from those two pirates above, and Robin eavesdrops on their conversation (quite literally at that. lol.) The interesting bit is that each of these serves a different purpose. Sanji has to know because he was there when it was happening, but Zoro knocked him out in order to sacrifice only himself to Kuma. For Brook, it serves as another incentive to join the crew (since he sees just how much the crew members care for one another) and to share a bond with one of the Straw Hats. But Robin, why did Oda want her to know? Oh I don’t know, maybe because it is important for Robin, as Zoro’s potential love interest, to know about the sort of sacrifice he made. Furthermore, the fact that Robin wanted to know enough to eavesdrop suggests she is highly interested in everything that has to do with Zoro, if you know what I mean. ;) She obviously couldn’t ask Zoro himself since he was so adamant about no one knowing (he wouldn’t even tell Sanji, who is his best friend and rival), so she did the next best thing. Clearly she cares a lot about Zoro if she is interested enough in what happened to him to eavesdrop
[/HIDE]
i was thinking of doing a similar thing for zoro x tashigi.now i don't feel i can make an argument to counter yours.you have done it quite well.also, the interactions between zoro and robin are naturally more than zoro and tashigi. -
RE: Chopper's forms
NOPE nope nope nope.
Gonna push that to the back of my mind now.
you clearly haven't read much,or i doubt any of the SBS,if this irritates you.it will probably one of the most innocent things in the SBS.

Good point. Luffy wouldn't want to endanger Momo & BB. After getting angry at CC for how he treated his men, Luffy wouldn't want to needlessly endanger them. While as enemies they aren't as imortant as friends (Momo/BB) they are not a threat to Luffy, so he would try to spare them.
Also Luffy saw CC and his men come from a room above them and knew more men are up there …and a good thing he's not risking going all out there, Usopp is there too. I would say Luffy doesnt' know...but with CoA, he may know so I staying mum on thati agree.after seeing cc petrify his subordinates,he probably realized that shinokuni was dangerous and could harm others, and as he didn't wanted to involve anyone else,he moved away.

RE: Chopper's forms
I'm glad you guys brought this up. When Shanks stated Luffy said the same things as Roger I really tried to look back at chapter 1 to figure out those words. When I mentioned this a long time ago it was written off. But I never thought to connect that instance with Luffy stating his dream to his brothers.
Now I honestly think there may be more to all of this. I love when I get intrigued and mystified by this story.
I don't see how anyone could possibly think Luffy winking at us with angel wings is just something random Oda decided to draw.
what cover are you referring to?if possible, could you link to it?

RE: Chapter 690: S.A.D
Loads of really cool things this chapter, Loved it!
Starting off with Law. I love how this chapter seems to be a culmination of a number of things that he's set in motion throughout this whole Arc, it really helps to develop him as the cool and collecting character who carefully plans every move he makes. It's gonna be really interesting how he'll interact with Luffy in the coming storyline. His speech about how he's putting in place the birth of a New Era was brilliant (I can't wait to see it handled by a more able translator such as CCC) for me it was the definitive introduction for the next stage of the story that will see the Worst Generation upsetting the status quo and for that reason I loved it. Also on that final double page spread we saw BM, Kid, Apoo and Hawkins. This makes me think that the Yonkou in question is BM and that the other three supernova will be involved in some grand alliance with Law and Luffy.
On the topic of Vergo I still think we've got a lot more to come from him. My interpretation of that scene was that Vergo has an incredible mastery of CoA but that CoA is not necessarily the best counter to DF powers, especially Law's power. From how Doflamingo built up Vergo's strength it made me think that in the past Law's abilities with the 'Ope-Ope no mi' could not counter Vergo's incredible CoA abilities, but since Law's left the services of Dofla his abilities have developed as such that he can now get past Vergo's CoA. This confrontation was in my eyes a metaphor for the challenge that Law was making to Doflamingo, Vergo's supposed power over Law represents an outdated viewpoint that Doflamingo has, Doflamingo has become complacent because he's made assumptions about how the world works and has made preparations accordingly and this will ultimately be his undoing. Law on the other hand represents a younger generation that Doflamingo hasn't accounted for, it is this generation that will act in a way that Doflamingo hasn't prepared for and will as a result bring about his downfall. When Law sliced Vergo in half he was effectively saying to Doflamingo 'Your pre-conceived notion of how a situation will unfold is outdated and as a result you've become complacent', this action then fit hand in hand with Law's speech on the matter. And for that reason I really enjoyed that little skirmish.
Back to Vergo. Like I said I don't think that CoA is necessarily the best counter to Law, from the beginning it seems that Law has to be very measured with his attacks so I think that CoO would be the best way to deal with Law. Now that Vergo is aware that his CoA isn't for want of a better word 'Law-proof' he'd be better off dodging Law's attacks. Ultimately Vergo underestimated Law and payed the price for it, in no way do I see this as a sign that Vergo is now Law's bitch.
As for the rest of the chapter. I'm curious as to how Kinemon is aware about Momonosuke being a dragon, hopefully Oda can explain this soon. I loved the little gag about Zoro's sense of direction and for me the issue of the childrens rampage has been dealt with effectively, all I hope is that the situation with Mocha and Chopper will be given the time and attention it deserves in the coming chapters. So yeah…great chapter.
you've summed up the reason this chapter is awesome, and not "h!@^&y !!!he cut the island(mountain).oda is a very skilled storyteller.best part is he is able to corelate stuff that happened more than 350 chapters ago to present, without having to waste 10 pages(you know what i'm talking about),or forgetting early stuff outright.the f#ucking new age is here, donflamingo!it just ain't you.

it's funny as hell!bossun pretends to be the
student council president,i.e. tsubaki.it's good that trinity bakuma is able to release weekly, since now mangarule will not do sket-dance,at least for a while. -

bossun's finally curious as to who the hell is nakatani-san from class a. as are most of us i suppose.great comedic chapter.
i was wondering something.! the mafia are shown here,is it foreshadowing of the so called "yakuza arc" that others have mentioned before?

RE: What do you think of the way women are portrayed in OP?
i'm not going to participate much in this idiotic(yeah,i dont care if its offending)thread,so this will probably be my only post.
about the monet fight,i think oda wanted to convey 2 things.
1)zoro can cut a woman.he did cut her.not using haki doesen't equate not cutting.i think cutting was emphasised on by tashigi and zoro, and not killing a woman opponent.
2)zoro doesent need to use haki against monet.that's what we are supposed to come out of the chapter thinking, considering tashigi's monologue.there is one thing i cannot understand.instead of focusing on useless thing to discuss "sexism",why hasn't anyone targeted kinemon?he is the most sexist person till now,on par with sanji.at leat sanji respects women, wheras kinemon outrights tells nami that women ought to walk 2 steps behind men,and whatnot.yet, zoro is a dick. zoro didn't even say anything about women, wheras kinemon outright insults them.
he is obviously more at fault. -
RE: Chapter 688: Mocha
Another brilliant chapter. It packs more emotion, drama and depth into one chapter than Bleach has in its entire lifespan.
Not at all surprised to see the grunts with low attention spans complaining about the lack of fights. Even when they are fighting, they complain it could be "fightier". There's just no pleasing some people. And this talk of pacing and running around in circles …. when a huge wall of toxic gas is chasing you, you'd better run. It's a race against time; your reasoning that it's "slow paced" must come from having to wait a week for each instalment. Again and again, I tell these people: step back and look at the arc as a cohesive whole. When it is finished and you can experience it all without interruption. That's the ideal way it should be read; for now, just enjoy how One Piece unfolds while it lasts.
This chapter wasn't about action. Or plot. It was purely character development, investment and emotion. Chapters like this is what makes One Piece so great, because Oda never sacrifices his characters for mindless action. There is always an emotional drive behind everything.
i don't know why,it mad me lol hard.well said.well enough bleach bashing.
Yea stupid chopper. How dare he feel sorry for a kid that is dying. I laugh in the face of kids that get cancer. nothing I could have done to stop their condition so why should I feel sorry and apoligize to them. Stupid ass cancer kids.
glad you agree with me.
! i guess you don't know how to understand what someone's saying, and not using sarcasm to look cool or whatnot.feeling sorry and apologising are different things.by your logic, every doctor should start apologising to all patients, especially kids."ooh, you had cancer for a month now.i'm sorry i couldn't help you sooner, even though i didn't know your name, location or condition. i am supposed to have a superpower that lets me know whenever someone needs help.also BTW,guess i am also supposed to have a superpower that will tell if there are some kids fooled to take poison, even though even the WG were clueless about it.i am deeply sorry for being so useless,i can only help you when i know your existence/problems.

RE: Chapter 688: Mocha
What a great chapter, seeing Chopper break down and apologize for something he had no way of knowing about was powerful.
He blamed himself twice in this chapter. Something big may come out of Chopper this very arc or maybe after Doflamingo is dealt with. Maybe even a 6th person chapter by the time this saga is over.
i actually didn't like this part.sure,i can get him taking blame for mocha's condition at the end, because he let her care handle the candies.but unless chopper is a superman, and he ignored his signal,i don't get why should he apologise for something he didn't know.
BTW,lol at mangastream."you and your sword fetish."

RE: Chapter 688: Mocha
good chapter.sanji and the marines heroic entry was good.also likes the mocha part.it was good how they focused on becoming adults.when i think about it,you want to become adult when you are a kid.it's natural.so it was good how oda did it.
and now it's back from sexism to "i want action/information".like luffy said to franky, did you change your heart to a steel one?this is the good old OP.that can make flashbacks about people who lived 400 years ago look good.we know that they were friends, but we didn't see that they were friends.also i have doubts that mocha will be unharmed at the end.chopper's words looked like someone lying to comfort some one.also,he says"this is my fault".
Do you realize by that logic, Nami's "help me" and Robin's "I want to live" drama would be pointless as well?
And if you mean non-nakama, the entire flashback of Noland would be pointless.Hell every single drama in One Piece ever would be pointless.
well said.
also loved the zoro-tashigi part."why don't i throw you over there now".also,he calls her sword maniac.funny as hell.

RE: Chapter 687: Wild animal
@CCC:
She doesn't literally say that he moved towards her… I didn't mean to imply that by my translation. Sorry for any confusion that's caused...
I personally think it's a flying slash, like CP9's rankyaku with their feet (or even Kaku, with his blades, for that matter). The fact that it cut her would mean- yes- he can put haki into those kinds of attacks.oh,ok.thanks for the clarification.

RE: Chapter 687: Wild animal
Mangarule's version is out and the debate seems to be over, more or less. Time to finally vent my thoughts on the chapter. And it's really just that, I'm not interested in "winning" any arguments or "challenging" anyone. Especially not on a matter that is completely up to interpretation and opinion.
Anyway!
I must say I'm kinda surprised that Yarisugi did not only manage to defeat Coribou, he was also able to scare Caribou off the island. Caribou is an idiot, but a logia is a logia, no matter how weak the element is. Unless he simply left at the first opportunity of course, which would suit his character.
Since this was the twelfth installment we might see the conclusion of the mini story soon, and my money is still on him reporting to Royal Shichibukai Buggy! The actual chapter starts with the G-5 asking why Sanji didn't help them against Monet. His answer was obvious, and unlike many here I never had an issue with that. However, him acting like the asshole of the crew was my problem, in basically every situation since the timeskip.
And this is where the G-5 come in! Just how the mermaid-overdose cured his excessive reactions towards women, the manly, mancrushing Marines seem to cure his extreme douchebaggery. Of course he still seems to hold a grudge against the children, but I will let it slide since this was exactly how he was raised by Zeff. Fitting if we consider that the Straw Hats keep mimicking their mentors since the timeskip.! http://s14.directupload.net/images/121104/sc6woj22.jpg

Hope to see more of that. I have this picture in my head of Sanji commanding the fodder Marines against Caesar's, hope it actually happens. Now to the interesting part. Zoro and Tashigi meet, the big moment. So, the reason why she thought that "she is needed" was because she doubts that Zoro can deal the finishing blow against a woman. Believable I guess, at least it's better than her assuming that her strength is of any use (after being reduced to the punching bag of Punk Hazard). Monet overhears the conversation and mumbles "just as I expected". As expected? Really? This is what she deduced from Zoro just blocking her attacks? Not being able to harm a female is a common enough trait of ruthless New World pirates? Yeah, not buying it.
But whatever, it's time for Tashigi's little skirmish.
Wonderful. It was already demonstrated by Caesar and Smoker that Logia's can avoid haki infused attacks by dissolving manually
! http://s7.directupload.net/images/121022/zk5yqdja.jpg
http://s7.directupload.net/images/121022/ufwdgx3b.jpgbut now Monet confirmed that it's really the way to go
I'm glad that this seems to be the explanation for the Aokiji/Akainu incidents, way better than a simple "my haki is stronger than yours!". It also perfectly explains why Crocodile was reluctant to fight Luffy at Marineford. One would think that he doesn't have any disadvantage in the New World since everyone and their mother is able to bypass his powers anyway (with the use of haki), but now we know that his weakness doesn't only rob him of his standard immunity, but he is also unable to avoid attacks manually like the above 3 users.
Anyway. Surprise surprise, Tashigi stands no chance against her opponent. At least Monet compliments her on avoiding her snowballs with Soru. And then there is again talk about underestimation.
http://s1.directupload.net/images/121104/i65kfjcz.jpg
http://s7.directupload.net/images/121104/rtazru8e.jpgGetting pretty tired of it to be honest.
Alright, Zoro finally decides to intervene with a well-timed flying slash. Haki infused! So theres another confirmation, even if it is just something minor.
Also more underestimation talk please.
Apart from that I found Zoro's excuse on why he stopped their fight somewhat cute. "You are taking too long". Yeah, as if that's the reason . Their interaction as a whole was quite enjoyable, but then Oda decided to slap me with the "Zoro is awesome and badass" bat. Way too hard for my taste. I mean it was obvious that Monet wasn't a match for him, but shivering in fear? To the point that she lost the ability to keep her fucking body together? Zoro is a wild animal (rawr!) who will bite when provoked? Cringeworthy.
It was just too much of everything, too much "in your face" for my liking.good post.i think a good review of the chapter.
but about that flying slash.i posted about it earlier,:yay, everone is sexist.especially women.
moving on to appreciate the little things**,reading ccc's trans it becomes clear that when he cut her cheek, that wasn't a flying slash.he cut her with his sword in contact,as she says"he came at me with the intention of cutting". it shows zoro is so fast that he can cut her and get back that quickly**.also, she says "he came at me with the intention of cutting",meaning she could sense that he's not fooling around despite giving her just a cut.which further strengthens the argument against coc.why does her inability to move start around the same time as her realisation of his "wildness" so to say,or his "intention of cutting".when i look back at motobaro, luffy just stopped him with his hands.he didn't threaten to beat him to a pulp,or was going to do an attack.robin commented"he intimidated him with his presence".same at fishmen island.his strength was being underestimated by those morons.more precisely, they didn't know his full strength, and were ready to attack him.luffy didn't do anything to show them his strength.then they collapsed.wheras,as i have mentioned above, monet realizes zoro's strength and "intention of cutting".so that was plain fear.the fear you feel at being held gunpoint.
also,(this point i'm not sure about) she probably thougth that running was useless,he was pretty fast.
the post may not be that well-articulated,so sorry for that.
and this is off topic, but:! it's pretty clear zoro's breath of all things is haki.all things include inanimate objests too.and "invivsible armour" can't be used to give the allusion of being a 3-headed demon.
also,do you think that zoro is grabbing tashigi's shoulder in the left middle panel of last page,or pointing at her.it's hard to tell.
monet's exact words were "he came at me just now with every intention of cutting".so i think that it was not a flying slash.so it still is not clear that haki can be used like that.

RE: Chapter 687: Wild animal
thinking about it,my main gripe with the chapter is the dumbness of monet.oda went up and set her up start, even law states that.but she is very careless, never considering that he can indeed cut women she was attacking tashigi and ignored him,in a way which is ultra-moronic.i awaited her fight, but she ended up 1-upping kalifa in dumbness.if she was somewhat careful, she could have lasted half a chapter more.

RE: Chapter 687: Wild animal
In order not to sound like a broken record I´ll do my best to avoid what has been said in the 20 first pages of this thread (After reading up to page 21 * yeah I have a lot of free time* my head was bursting due to a headache caused by some especific posts and the ammount of time it took me to read through. I must apologise however if what I´m going to say next has been brought up before in the last 7 pages but I couldn´t take the read any longer)
Anyway I´ll go straight to a point that has been bugging me somewhat. The Key words are DAMAGE and INJURY.
Monet was damaged by Zoro!. Even if it isn´t physical damage, a person´s phyque can be severely wounded by others via different means , intimidation and fear are just a piece of the cake. So I truly don´t understand how some readers stated that Zoro´s "Daishinkan" didn´t inflict any damage to monet. Would you like to see blood, guts or monet´s innards to accept the attack as damaging?(Ok, I´m one of those who would be happy to see more blood but thats a different story altogether). The thing is, in shonen and life not only your bones and flesh can be cut, but your nervous system can be overloaded by emotional factors that may well develop an innability to do anything by the one suffering the condition. Take it to the extreme and the "victim of the incident" might end braindead and well that´s a different kind of farewell but one nonetheless. Rant over
i said something similar earlier, but it was not that well put.people just pretend it never exist, and continue droning "zoro is soft on woman","he didn't cut up someone into 2 halves.".his daishinkan was so powerful that the slash continued in the air, suprising an already beaten tashigi.it's like his attack didn't happen.just coz he didn't need to use haki.

RE: Chapter 687: Wild animal
YOu're making the assumption that there is only one way to use CoC. Given that the other forms seem to have multiple possible applications, I've got to assume that there are advance techniques that someone with CoC could use if they have enough control
what i'm saying is that oda presented it to us as fear through the chapter title, zoro's dialogue and tashigi's dialogue.he used the wild animal ideology, which has nothing to do with coc.
-
RE: Chapter 687: Wild animal
There is absolutely nothing to sugest CoC is hereditary. ALthough I too am not completely convinced this is CoC, but it could still be possible
rayleigh specifically said that very few people have coc.it's true that it may not be hereditary, but still,i think it's pretty clear that either you have it,or you don't.
if he had used coc,he would have just sat there and knocked her out.you could say that his was just able to make her unable to move.but as i have said, the theme of wild animal/fear was used by the author explicitly.so i don't buy it.
Who cares if Zoro used CoC. If he did, then he has in the past, cause he has caused this before in other opponents of his.
But who cares if he did or not. CoC doesn't really do anything worth noting. It takes out fodder and that's about it. If Zoro's natural intimidatin Aura does essentially the same, then who cares if its CoC or just his bad-assness.
offtopic, but don't see how knocking out someone with just your will is weak.
edit :@anders yeah it's that too.
@jabra yeah they mean the same thing in a dictionary.
coc doesn't use physical fear, like being held at gunpoint.real fear is produced by something apparent.
wheras coc uses the strength of one's will, which is something intangible. -
RE: Chapter 687: Wild animal
CoC IS fear.
dude, you are killing me.coc is not fear.it is the ability to overpower other's willpower with you own.it basically the ability to manifest your willpower.it is most probably hereditary.and like i said, zoro is called a wild beast.it must be for a reason.and not just to troll us and tell us 100 chapters later that what zoro used was actually coc, just cause.i don't think wild beast generally have coc.
well,if you still don't agree,that's fine.i just have a different opinion.
-
RE: Chapter 687: Wild animal
@雪だるま:
I don't agree at all with the general consensus of this thread. This chapter was good. Contrary to Sanji, Zoro actually has a valid reason to feel the way he feels towards woman. His feeling are much more complicated and in-depth.
Additionally, what's the fuzz about not killing her off? I believe Luffy has numerous times defeated his opponents without killing them (I.e, he has never killed anyone iirc).
And then we get to the power disparity between the Snow bitch, Tashigi and Zoro. Clearly dealing with a Logia is never an easy task - especially an unfamiliar logia like the snow harpy. It should come to no surprise that Tashigi, who never has shown exceptional battle capabilities, would have severe trouble dealing with an unfamiliar and brutally aggressive Logia. Zoro, on the other hand, took me by surprise - he's clearly a monstrous motherfucker.
I'd like to conclude that I find it ridiculous that people are offended or disappointed when something isn't how they thought it would be, or that their predictions are off. Tashigi not being capable to handle an unfamiliar Logia is "very jarring" and thus she is a "waste of space"? Not everyone gain superpowers just because they're in trouble or emotionally at their breaking point.
Clearly Zoro is capable of handling woman in a very different way to Sanji. The fact that he doesn't need to kill his opponents is somehow surprising? He didn't even kill Daz Bones while they were fighting for their lives.
What this chapter revealed, or shed light on, for me was that Zoro thinks woman are inferior (at least in some way) and that he is much more brutal than I thought.Would you cut the head off a helpless rabbit if it bit you in the finger?
agree with you.especially the getting offended part.i had lost the will to continue that debate.

RE: Chapter 687: Wild animal
Wow, it feels like a long time since I've done this. I think maybe it's because I don't get challenged much anymore. Anyway…

This is a women who can literally disappear into the snow, but didn't even try. That's her version of running, and it works.
Luffy didn't have problems with her. He didn't even try to fight her, and both of them agreed that he'd win easily if he did. She was just impeding his progress, so he made a move to slip around her, which wound up not going as planned. And like it or not, mangapanda's translations really aren't that inaccurate, and the fact that they wrote "sol" instead of "soru" doesn't change that. In my experience, they're typically more accurate when it comes to conveying meaning than mangastream is. Sure, CCC's are better than either, and Stephen's are better than that (no offense of course CCC). But beggars can't be choosers, and it's close enough for us to get a solid understanding of what's being said for the most part.
What's being said is that Monet was paralyzed by fear. And a cut to the cheek isn't enough to warrant that by itself. You're talking to someone who's usually pretty guarded about what he labels as haki.
[/hide]what i'm saying is that if zoro used coc,oda would have told us.the name of the chapter, zoro's dialogue, tashigi's dialogue indicate that he used fear.it would be bleachesqe trolling on oda's part if he did indeed used coc.if he had used coc, what was the point of the chapter name, zoro's dialogue and tashigi's dialogue?they were wrong?i can see that one aspect of the storytelling is meant to mislead/hide the fact that he has haki, but there are many elements which suggest otherwise.so i don't think oda intends to give him coc due to some elements explicitly suggesting it is not.

RE: One Piece Volume Z confirmed as a present in One Piece Film Z
the definition of canon is that it is written by author.so,even if the movie doesn't fit in the manga continuity,it doesn't make it non-canon.many people are thinking of the word "canon" wrongly.
whatever oda does, say ,writes or designs is canon. -
RE: Chapter 687: Wild animal
it looks like zoro won't get a break with just slicing a woman in half.no,he's gotta slice, dice and chop.of course i understand that bashing miss monday's head is far worse than just slicing someone in half, hitting a nun with the back of his blade is far more terrifying than making someone unable to join their two sliced halves.:ninja:
edit:just read ccc's post.he is right about different backgrounds.oda just didn't want zoro to be a heartless bastard, because generally that's what using haki would make him look.his values may be different from yours,he has his own cultural perception.so,if you think he's sexist, maybe according to you he is.that will be my last post regarding this debate.
i'm sick of this argument.so i'm just forgetting anything regarding"attacking women, sexism,".i just read the chapter.it was great!

RE: Chapter 687: Wild animal
after rereading,i have a doubt.in the left middle panel of the last page,is zoro grabbing tashigi's shoulder or pointing at her?

RE: Chapter 687: Wild animal
You'd think Zoro being taken back by Tashigi's comments clearly indicates she's guessing things wrong.
But the thread is full of Tashigis.lol at"rocks have more charm than him."

RE: Chapter 687: Wild animal
You'd think Zoro being taken back by Tashigi's comments clearly indicates she's guessing things wrong.
But the thread is full of Tashigis.agreed.if zoro could read this thread,he would be pissed.as he was with tashigi.what i can't understand is that if zoro is sexist and thinks women are weak, why did he let tashigi fight monet.monet was a logia, and as he thinks all weak,he would assume that a logia DF is overpowered against a weak person.so,even though zoro would think monet is weak,he would also think that a DF woman is stronger than a normal human.
To me, Zoro's "final blow" against Monet was equivalent to his cutting up of Hyozou's swords before turning his back and giving them both one last chance to quit while they are still relatively unharmed. And Zoro didn't leave the finishing blow to Tashigi trusting that she would take care of it. Tashigi swooped in and stole the finishing blow. That's the difference between this fight and his fight with Hyouzo. If Tashigi didn't swoop in, the same thing would have happened to Monet that happened to Hyouzo. Furthermore, Zoro didn't use that particular brand of intimidation attack against Monet because she was a woman. He did that precisely because she is a logia(he can't exactly do that trick with a non-logia without them dying and it losing it's point). Like I said, IMO, his intention was no different than cutting Hyouzo's swords.
For me, the point of this chapter was Tashig assuming that Zoro was sexist, and Zoro proving her wrong. And if she is as level headed and flexible as she has been in the rest of this arc, she will realize she was wrong, and her and Zoro's relationship will take another step forward.
^this.
@gizmo if he doesn't like to hurt woman,he wouldn't make them shit scared.personally,i think it's worse than simply slashing someone.that's the whole point of the chapter.

RE: Chapter 687: Wild animal
That's nice that you feel that way I guess, but I don't really see your point. Anything about kingbition beyond intimidation and knocking out fodder is pretty much unknown. I don't see why Tashigi should be some sort of expert in it, nor do I see where she pointed out what Zoro used beyond some level of threat/intimidation/fear.
well, even though she is not a expert on coc,but she is decently knowledgable.also,i think that oda through tashigi is explaining the situation to us.also,if monet would be affected by coc,why did luffy had problems with her?you could argue he didn't use it,or was idiotic not to use it,or whatever.but i don't think there is any way that zoro did use haki and tashigi didn't notice it.i don't buy it.it falls in one of the things that people want to push into haki, just cause there is haki.
as i said, ccc's translation are better to base a debate on.really, mangapanda did a number on this chapter."sol".mygod.it's useless to take anything they say for serious. -
RE: Chapter 687: Wild animal
! My eyes aren't hazy with blood rage like I'm sure half this forum is right now, so I rather liked this chapter.
! - Ok, the cover story caught me way off guard. Ahahaha. I wasn't sure last week's cover was necessary, but with this continuation it makes a lot more sense. Caribou is such a dick. I'm pleasantly surprised that G5 is as strong as it is. You know Caribou would love to bury them all alive if he could.
! - I'm just going to start out with the elephant in the room that is sexism. I know it'll be a huge point of contention for people all week. There are two (or three) people to blame for this being an issue, and none of them are Zoro. The first person is Oda. I thought the characters actions and dialog were all fitting, so I have no issues there. Oda's the one who put Zoro against a woman who was far weaker than him, and then tossed Tashigi on top with all of her awful assumptions of Zoro. Had he crafted a different situation, then all of this would have disappeared. But the truth is that he had his reasons. The massively inescapable reason for Oda going this route is…
! - Zoro's backstory. It's high time to advance the underlying issues behind Zoro's personal story beyond just his strength, especially as it relates to Tashigi, because it hasn't been addressed since East Blue. We have his one chapter flashback, and his confrontation with Tashigi back in Loguetown. That's about it. So color me actually happy to see the development of it get started back up again. This is a series long developmental story rooted in Kuina's death, and it's going to be painful for some people along the way due to the fact that sexism is designed to be a core issue, which isn't the fault of the character. This chapter was pretty much dedicated to Zoro, and provided us with a snapshot of his character. My take on this is simple. Zoro was greatly affected by Kuina's death, and the things she said before she died. It doesn't help that the entire thing stinks of suicide to this day. I'm not convinced that Zoro really believes that women are weak, because he spent his childhood getting whipped by one. I do believe that he doesn't like to hurt women, though, as supported by his line about having things he doesn't want to cut. He's willing to, though, if it comes down to that, unlike Sanji, but given the choice he'd prefer not to. Not liking to but being also being willing to if need be is really... pretty normal. He's also not hung up on the fact, as the simple truth is that Tashigi and Monet just aren't in his league. I saw this with surprising clarity on my first read through last week. But then I analyzed and reanalyzed to see if I could talk myself out of it for fear of the backlash if it was right, and doing that just seems silly now. It's not as if women are the only thing he doesn't like to cut, since he didn't want to cut Hyouzou either (in fact, the way he handled Monet was pretty much a mirror image of how he handled Hyouzou). But there are legitimate reasons for his character to shy away from it, and as long as he's willing to when it comes down to it, that's fine with me. Let the man have a little internal conflict. It certainly wasn't overplayed or a major factor by any means. Yes, it's probably an issue for him, but it's a tiny, fairly insignificant and easy to overcome issue that doesn't deserve the backlash that it will receive.
! - The second person to blame for sexism being an issue is Tashigi (and the borderline third would be Kuina). She makes such a big stink about it while being relatively weak, and she has a history of making large assumptions that aren't accurate. As a result, the things she says can confuse us. I, for one, will not take anything she claims to know about Zoro as fact after all of her poor assumptions of him. She was also never on his level before, and she wasn't going to magically catch up to him while he trained, and it's not because she's a woman. But in truth, she's integral to Zoro's story and she's the driving force behind the sexism debate in OP. Her and Kuina are how Oda acknowledges sexism as an issue in the story. And because the author acknowledges it, it's also fair for us to expect a resolution that redeems the strength of women by the end. Big Mom will shatter the concept that women are weak sooner than later, by herself, and I doubt she'll do it alone. So exercise patience. Monet and Tashigi simply aren't that strong, just like a lot of male characters, and we knew this last week. Even together they'd be no match for Zoro at all. I don't really know how the end will play out, but it's always seemed like Tashigi was designed to be desperate to chase and catch up throughout the story. That leans towards an eventual conclusion of some type of redemption for her in the end, but it might be too much to assume that means defeating Zoro, because he's not really evil and she could come to realize that. I didn't want to delve so deeply into this topic, but I feel like Zoro's backstory, which is more relevant now than ever since entering the Grand Line, sort of demands it for once, since sexism is an integral part of it. And now I can do the rest of this post without worrying about this aspect.
! - I'm absolutely loving Sanji in his role of leading G5. It just doesn't get less amusing to me from chapter to chapter, like I would expect. It's going to be hard to view these guys as serious enemies in the future, much to Smoker's dismay. And listen up, because when Sanji says something positive about Zoro, it has as much credibility as anything said in the entire manga. Because he won't say something like that if it's not 100% accurate. I am quite pleased with the way Sanji handled this situation. I expected painful drama about hurting women, but no, that's the job of Tashigi and the fanbase.
! - I rather enjoyed the other dynamics between Zoro and Tashigi. Tashigi tries to make a fool out of Zoro, so Zoro puts her in a situation to make a fool out of herself. And it fit with his attitude of "as long as I get my job done it's fine." I tend to strongly believe Zoro's words over Tashigi's, especially when it's about him. I sensed a lot of truth in what he was saying throughout the chapter. I don't think he was kidding himself like Tashigi would like to believe. The end of the chapter seemed like it would have been a repeat of how the Hyouzou fight ended, but Tashigi stepped in instead and pretended she saved the day. So Zoro spent the final panels mocking her for it. That made me laugh.
! - Even if Tashigi is still a ways behind, she still got to do more than ever before. She actually inflicted damage on someone with a name. Shocking, eh? A logia user even! She proved she could use both haki and rokushiki techniques. She was also used to show off Monet's ability when she gets serious. And with Zoro there and the rest of the crew not wanting to fight her, that was probably the best way, since she wasn't going to land another hit on them. And Tashigi even managed to fulfill that role without just being fodder. Not letting Monet take her shoulder after getting bit was a nice touch. She fought admirably given her relative strength, while remaining consistent to her character. I'm good with that.
! - I'm marking this as the official reveal of Zoro's kingbition (color of the conqueror/haoushoku), which I've been anticipating for this arc for quite a while now. And a chapter devoted to Zoro would be the right time for it. Yeah, he proved to the doubters that he could use armor haki, which is good, but I was taking that for granted anyway. Zoro scared Monet to the point of her being unable to move. According to Rayleigh, the color of the conqueror is basically the power of overwhelming through intimidation. So if it's not kingbition, then it's basically the same thing but nameless, which seems silly. He also only cut her cheek, and I'm sure that's not enough to make her freeze by itself. I'm just glad that we saw what I believe is likely to be another application of kingbition beyond knocking fodder out. The ability was bound to have some sort of merit against strong opponents, and it was clearly going to be tied to an intimidation factor, so this was the logical progression whether it was revealed or not. Against a strong opponent it might not be more than a moment of hesitation or panic, but even that can change a fight. I'm also a fan of how Zoro followed it up. He used a move I don't think we've ever seen before, so the fact that it's really strong should be a given. By not using armor haki with it, Monet got to experience the power of it without really being hurt by it, and it shattered her mentally. But she was so shaken that she couldn't even control her own fruit power anymore. Maybe that particular aspect wasn't kingbition related, but I tend to think it was, since he froze her leading into it and I have a tough time believing that she's always so mentally fragile. I like how Zoro compared himself to a wild animal because it makes sense to me. Since he said it, it's something we should probably take to heart.i agree with most of your points.except the coc part.coc has no relation with someone physically attacking someone.she was only intimidated when zoro started attacking.also,it was pointed out by tashigi what zoro used.it will become more clear with ccc's translation.if he had used coc, tashigi would have noticed.as it is pointed out by tashigi directly,i don't think there is any doubt that it is not haki.
@ccc; i want to present some counter argument to you.
1)you have the impression that zoro did not attack monet at all,as you are disregarding his ittouryu attack like the others.the fact that he did not use haki does not mean his attack was useless.the attack was strong enough that monet couldn't even move properly.if the attack was useless, how could tashigi defeat her in a single strike whereas she was losing before?she was no match for monet.so he did attack her badly.he just didn't kill her.and he didn't kill miss monday.or any other person for that matter.
2)if he had attacked monet when everyone else was still around,as some others have pointed out that would have been more careless.she didn't want to fight him in the beginning.so she would have used some trickery or other to harm the others.he was more concerned about them,so he let them get away first.it could also be a fault of oda,as he wanted this situation to be there. -
RE: Chapter 687: Wild animal
@Alpha:
He made Monet shit bricks and made her so tense with fear that she couldn't even move and he SLICED HER ASS in half with fear.
^this.people seem to disregard the physical and mental attack of zoro.he did attack her.even if she's a logia, and her body was intact but she must have felt the impact of his attack.also, she was crippled with fear which tashigi described as a means of defeating someone.if his attack was useless, how did monet was defeated in a single strike by tashigi?what he did was that he did not kill monet.he hasn't killed anyone,at least on panel.and no,he did not kill miss monday.:ninja:
so how is any of it sexist?if he had killed her, people would say women are portrayed weak.i am seriously starting to believe mass trolling is being carried out. -
RE: Chapter 687: Wild animal
ah so its not canon …yet. We can not take things in the movies for granted and say they apply to manga until Oda says it in the
manga. While a few things may make their way from movie to manga, most doesn't. After all one movie had a brother to Wapol fightign the SHs during the Drum island...we know that never happened.but strong world and z are canon, and oda plays a huge part in z.so it's very much canon.
