I know I'm late to the party even though I saw this thing on opening weekend, but I must say…

There are only two films that have entertained me enough to see at least 3 times in theaters.

      1.) The Avengers (2012)

      And now

      2.) Spider-Man Into The Spiderverse (2018)

So that says all I need to say about how much I enjoyed that movie. And 6 years from now maybe there'll be another one lol.

Earlier this year at a campaign event an audience member asked this senate candidate, 'When was the last time America was great?' The Senate candidate's response?

"I think it was great at the time when families were united—even though we had slavery—they cared for one another…Our families were strong, our country had a direction."

      -Roy Moore

No surprise there. Luckily, this comment is resurfacing in a big way. Will it affect the race? Well, he is running in Alabama so that's a toss up.

Oh, it's pretty obvious why they put in that Frozen "short". To get more butts in seats. I saw advertisements for it along with Coco ads.

'Hey, did you or your kids love 'Frozen'?! Well then you're in luck because if you come see 'Coco' you'll get more 'Frozen'!'

That's some Pixar for your Pixar.

As for the short I thought it was okay. The only enjoyable part was Olaf's song. What was truly abysmal we're the crappy previews before the movie. Absolutely nothing memorable.

Coco was great! Beautiful animation and great characters. Truthfully though, I thought the music could've been stronger. Really, the only song I remember is aptly named 'Remember Me' and I vaguely remember 'Poco Poco' (sp?). Not many songs besides those. Still, the overall product was thoroughly enjoyable.

      Just a few thoughts…

! Family twist was a little too obvious and I kinda felt like they (the writers) knew that too, so didn't make it a big DUN DUN DUN moment.
! The ending with the great grandmother and great grandson singing together made me tear up.
! Murder is dark but not out of the ordinary for Disney/Pixar. Not at all. I actually thought the more depressing thing was the old man in the shantytown fading away because he was forgotten.
! An interesting thought, what happens to murderers in the afterlife? Now that everyone knows the musician was nothing but a thief and murderer what are they going to do with him? Throw him in jail until he is forgotten? Is their a giant jail full of people who murdered in their past life? Are there a bunch of murderers walking the streets in the afterlife because they were never caught while they were alive? Or will the afterlife society just shun and cast him out to the fringes of society? Kinda like what they do with the people who are being forgotten…
! Was the dog always a spirit guide who simply disguised himself as a dog, or was it a dog who turned into a spirit guide once it got into the afterlife? I'd have to go with the former obviously. That'd explain why it was able to see the ghosts, travel to the land of the dead, and guide the boy like it did.
! The musician is an idiot. He turned his murder into a movie. What an idiot.

So, yeah, I liked it. It was good, not great.

A live-action Justice League movie featuring Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg, with fitting actors to boot, was good, not great. I would say it's a complete waste if I didn't at least have fun.

At least it was better than SS and BvS. By leaps and bounds. Mostly because the heroes had great chemistry with one another and the battles were well done. Yeah, the choreography and editing was hard to follow some, thanks to the CGI, but you get used it, or at least I did. But, seriously, the characters made the movie worthwhile. The plot was there because it had to be. It does nothing to contribute to the enjoyment of the film, but does everything to take away from it.

Side note, the movie was even a little funny. Looking forward to future movies featuring the characters. I don't know who's getting a standalone movie besides Aquaman but I kinda hope Flash and Cyborg get thrown in there somehow because does every one of these characters really need their own movie at this point? Isn't it a little too late for that now?

Also, can we finally get MoS2???

That's just fine morally bankrupt politicking there on the GOP's part.

He’s also got more court seats to fill. He inherited a whopping 108 court vacancies when he became president ― double the number of vacancies Obama inherited when he took office. That’s largely due to Republicans’ years-long strategy of denying votes to Obama’s court picks to keep those seats empty for a future GOP president to fill. It worked.

      @Lord:

Okay, so throughout the first movie they repeatedly hammered home the point that the kaiju were getting stronger, their attacks were getting more frequent, and that if they didn't act soon they'd quickly reach a point where there was no hope whatsoever of stopping them. The final battle was literally set up to be their last ever chance. All the Yaegers were destroyed in the battle, they narrowly closed the rift…

But NAH, that was just the beginning! Now I'm just left with a few truckloads of questions, starting with: How exactly would they even survive the return of the kaiju after that? The assumption at the end of the first movie was that they were gone for good, and none of the Yaegers survived the battle, meaning the next time a kaiju would attack, it would be completely unexpected and they'd have nothing to defend themselves with.

I'm guessing this is some years later and it looks like mankind developed new Yaegars for a different purpose, absent the humanity threatening Kaijuu, for purposes of warring against each other.

So when the humanity threatening Kaijuu appear again there are plenty of Yaegars around.

      But that's just a guess.

      @Robby:

It was actually fun and embracing its kaiju roots. Power Rangers and Transformers both seem ashamed of their source material.

I don't know about any other recent Power Rangers endeavor besides the recent American movie, but it was actually really good fun.

Though it was more of a focus on the human characters than rangers in spandex fighting putty men, so that might not have been what everyone was expecting. I only watched Power Rangers in my childhood and there have been so many iterations, I don't know what exactly constitutes source material.

So I just saw 'mother!' and I went into the movie thinking I wasn't going to like it, honestly. I thought it was going to be too pretentious and self-absorbed. Like, look at this great piece of artwork I did! It won't even bother trying to hide this is a vanity project. And if you don't like it then the problem is you!!!

Nah, it turns out I liked it, a lot. It made sense to me, it wasn't perfect, but it also wasn't needlessly complicated. The metaphor became more and more obvious as it went along and some of the pieces didn't fit but for what it was trying to convey, I admire. The acting was fantastic and the movie felt intentionally claustrophobic as if you were trapped, trapped like Jennifer was in her situation. Inescapable.

Here's the thing. I would not recommend this movie to anybody. Yep, not anybody unless I really know that person's tastes in movies. This movie will not appeal to many, not becuase it's bad, but because it's very umexpected. I will say it was poorly and falsely advertised, for sure.

Different perspective on the matter to end DACA. The program might have been discontinued anyway as Republicans planned to sue the government to end it. And success was likely.

_It might not matter anyway. Here’s the other way the state AGs’ letter changed the calculus: If the administration doesn’t end DACA, and the states sue them over it, the program will likely be put on hold — at least temporarily — by a federal judge.

The challenge to DACA would be used to revive the suit against the 2014 deferred action program — which guarantees it would be heard by Southern District of Texas Judge Andrew Hanen. Republican state officials selected Hanen’s court when they challenged the 2014 deferred action program, and he hasn’t disappointed them — he’s clearly skeptical of the government’s actions to limit immigration enforcement.

It’s not an ironclad guarantee that Hanen would rule against DACA, but it’s a pretty safe bet. And the fairly conservative Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals might agree. Under those circumstances, the program would at least be on hold for months or even years. And not only would the administration’s hand have been forced, but it would look like a loss for Trump — yet another court defeat on immigration, this time from the other side.

It’s not hard to imagine that President Trump might want to avoid a public loss. If he’s convinced that DACA is going to end anyway, he may choose to do it himself — no matter how sympathetic he feels toward the DREAMers._

And this is from Vox so we're not looking at a conservative slant here. Quite the opposite.
      https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/7/14/15966356/daca-dreamers-trump-amnesty

(The article is from August 25th and correctly predicted, as many had, that Trump was gearing up to end DACA.) Also of note, the reasons Jeff Sessions gave for ending DACA was very different from the reason DHS officials said as to why they're ending DACA.

Sessions’s fiery speech tying the decision to end the DACA policy as part of a larger push to restore the “rule of law” in America marked a stark contrast to the tone struck by Department of Homeland Security officials in a background call with reporters an hour before the announcement. The DHS officials, who declined to be identified on the record, said the decision to end DACA was not for moral or national security reasons, but simply because the administration had decided the policy would not survive an ongoing court challenge brought by 10 Republican attorneys general.

Enemies gained super easy access pass the wall.
Cersei has decided to betray the alliance despite the proof.

Gained information on how troops are linked to the walker who turned em'
Got the proof they needed to convince Cersei (disregarding hindsight)
! So, besides the 'cut the head off the snake and the whole body dies' information, can't really say the trip was worth the effort. I understand why they tried it though and they couldn't have known Cersei would be so dense and selfish but, whatevs. Hindsight is 20/20. @Count:

It was okay. If only for some of the action and a lot of the protagonist character interactions that complemented each other nicely. Besides that, Iron Fist is still a mediocre superhero. He does have bits of more likable portrayal here than in his show, but I always felt like it occurred in a "one step forward, two steps backwards" pendulum.

! I had hopes that Danny would improve as a hero and overall person. The series tries to frame it like he did. But he's still as much of an imbecile as ever. He bumps into Elektra in an almost humorous fashion and stares at the dying foreign guy instead of focusing on her, which lets her escape. I write that off as more wonky choreography, but it still looks weird.
! Later on, he tries to beat down that cleaner kid for information even though he makes it clear that he doesn't know anything about who he works for. They try to spin that into Danny receiving criticism from Luke about how his rich upbringing and privileged entitlement are issues blinding him from realizing that he should rely on his connections instead of solely fighting an ignorant one man militia street war of brutalizing clueless impoverished minions trying to feed their families, which I liked. It made plenty of sense and it seemed like it would actually help Danny become a better and more unique superhero. We get that in him looking at the Hand's affiliated shell companies to learn about Midland Circle, which is cool, but then…
! He just walks in to their high-rise boardroom meeting to give out a war declaration. What did he possibly think he was going to accomplish by walking into the heart of the enemy's HQ to deliver some trash talk? Did he really think everything would work out if he coincidentally met all of the Hand leaders in that room and somehow managed to kill all of them in broad daylight while having no evidence of their crimes to make public? Compare this with how we saw the complex downfalls of Kingpin and Cottonmouth in previous Netflix shows and this a complete joke. I know they're a shadow organization and have a lot of supernatural stuff behind their scenes many people wouldn't believe, but still. But hey, we at least got that cool shot of Luke tanking bullets while covered behind him. That really makes me wish we got a Heroes for Hire show instead of second seasons for either of their shows, but I digress.
! So Iron Fist is lucky that the other Defenders are there and he escapes into he restaurant. For all of his character faults, Danny became the most tolerable and even entertaining in the restaurant during episode four. I liked seeing him be the only one giddy about forming a superhero team (even though it's a bit weird that he told Colleen in episode one that he wasn't comfortable working with anybody else, but she kind of convinced him to try so it works). Seeing him act jovial about eating the food there and how he respected Stick since they are both invested in the war while Matt's turned off were nice interactions. I still wish that Danny at least told Luke that he was right and asked about what happened to the kid. It would have been a good moment to see Danny humbled about a brash mistake he made getting a helpless young civilian killed. And it was nice to see that Danny both respected and conflicted with Matt in general, since he praised his heroics as Daredevil while Stick dissed them but questioned how a blind guy could fight and got antsy about being called a kid.
! But then Iron Fist goes straight back to idiot territory after White Hat gets decapitated by Stick. For some reason, he gets really uptight about the Hand thinking that the Iron Fist is a key instead of a weapon like K'un-L'un told him he was and that the Hand only manipulates people. I somewhat get the latter part, but why get so upset over a semantical argument? This guy didn't even know about how he could do yoga to replenish his chi during the first season of his show or the existence of the Chaste being his designated army in general, so there is no reason to be bothered about not knowing an additional capability of your superpower. Is it REALLY that hard to ponder that if you call a weapon a "key", then maybe it's intended to open something by being so destructive? That whole conflict was stupid and Danny should have at least been lenient on either gaining more information or using this tactic against the Hand if they want him so badly instead of rushing out into war. Actually, I don't even really think this is consistent with how he interacted with Alexandra in the restaurant by hearing out her offer despite everybody else dismissing her while remaining steadfast with his loyalty to protecting New York. He was open to hear what a leader of the Hand had to say to him earlier for the sake of curiosity, but then is the only one to dismiss everything the Hand has to say as nonsense without any shred of consideration? C'mon.
! So Danny gets tied up and barks threats of breaking out with the iron fist like you might expect. I did like how Danny bonded with Luke a bit in this scene, especially when Luke dismissed Stick's meditation as magical mumbo jumbo while Danny defended it as a different perspective on life. Danny was ignorant about people from Luke's background, and now we see Luke being ignorant about people from Danny's background. And the twist of Stick wanting to kill Danny was quite clever and in-character for his steadfast pragmatic personality. It's a shame that Elektra killed Stick before him and Matt could ever really have any scenes as memorable as in season one and two.
! At the end of the seventh episode, Danny fights Elektra after being captured and stupidly activates his iron fist to defeat here. Which, of course, gets directed into the wall guarding the substance. I saw that awful cliche happening episodes ahead of time, but was hoping to myself that they would find a more clever way of tackling the climax of the story than that. Ew. So much for Danny's character development.
! Finally, we get that last glimpse of Danny watching over New York in the night. I have a feeling they were trying to go for an "Iron Fist is taking over for Daredevil" vibe, which is alright. It slightly reminds me of comic book stories like when Iron Fist wore Daredevil's costume during Civil War to protect Matt Murdock's identity since Daredevil was arrested (meaning that Matt Murdock was also conspicuously missing), as well as Black Panther protecting Hell's Kitchen for a while instead of Daredevil for some reason. Although I'm still not excited for a second season of Iron Fist, and I only pray that Marvel listens to all of the criticism that has been expressed. I only cut Defenders some slack despite coming after season one of Iron Fist since it's obvious that they were developed simultaneously in the scriptwriting phase, meaning that it was sort of too late to really improve much about Danny's characterization.
! But c'mon, where is Danny's costume? The green and yellow track suit he wears in that final glimpse actually looks nice and can work as a part of the suit, but he needs the freaking mask. Actually, why can't Danny just inherit Matt's first costume? With some color dyes, mild attire tweaks, and some eyes, it would actually work perfectly. It would have been a great way to make Danny honoring Matt's memory more impactful than just getting whispered "protect my city". What a wasted opportunity.

As for how I feel about the rest of the show:

! Matt, Jessica, and Luke are cool. I wish that Matt and Luke bonded more outside of the mask reveal tension in the restaurant, and the same for Danny and Jessica. I also kind of wish they would have talked about or referenced the Punisher in some way (having them discuss their morals on killing would have been a very interesting discussion), but maybe that can be saved for a second season.
! The Hand is as ambiguous and bland as ever. The Japanese guy never gets any interesting moments outside of when he was about to betray Alexandra (I like how they subverted that by having Iron Fist captured right on time lol), and I suppose it's nice to see that they can focus beyond their petty squabbles towards what is important. White Hat was a bit interesting, but got killed off prematurely. Luke defeating him off-screen was underwhelming as well. I would have rather seen him do cool nerve strike moves in the final fights of the series than have Madame Gao force pushing to compensate for the actress' lack of physical prowess from old age. Speaking of Gao, she was fine this season. I like how her power is to rely on diplomacy, mind games, and secret alliances rather than directly antagonize people (which she does in Daredevil and Iron Fist too, so it's nothing new). I hope she comes back. And Bakuto… is decent. I'm indifferent to him. That sword slash stunt where he ignited the gas in the parking lot looked sick. But still wanting Colleen to join the Dark Side after everything that's happened was pointlessly cliche at this point.
! Alexandra was boring and bland. There was potential, but the fact that she didn't seem to be based on any pre-existing comic book villain in the trailers concerned me. And rightfully so. I don't mind her getting killed off, and the way it happened was a bit funny. But Elektra wasn't a good replacement. I don't care about her bond with Alexandra at all with how forced and generic it is. And the stakes don't change at all when Elektra takes over, it's only a surprise for the sake of a surprise. I don't even get Elektra's motivations outside of being irked that her ex-boyfriend's epithet wasn't pronounced respectfully. She hinted that she wanted immortality to be with Matthew, but still tried to fight and kill Matthew. Ugh, it was a mess.
! I will give Alexandra credit for one thing. As weird as it might sound, I was into that scene in episode two where she found out about the wall blocking the substance from Madame Gao. The way she was able to organically piece together that K'un-Lun containing the substance instead of destroying it meant that it was being preserved as a contingency that needed to be accessed through some sort of secret method/key. Connecting that concept of a key with the Iron Fist since that is K'un-Lun's obsession and the logic of how a powerful super punch might be enough to break a tough wall written with a dead language was really clever. The villain coming to a conclusion like this so briefly almost felt like cheating, but it was executed in a way that logically flowed well. I like that. It almost reminded of the type of psychological/tactical thought processes that happen in Hunter x Hunter lol. Although this only makes Danny's conflict with the Defenders about not understanding how a weapon could semantically be the same as a key all the more pointlessly idiotic.
! Juggling between The Hand wanting immortality and to return to K'un-Lun were boring motivations. Destroying New York is instead more of a distant by-product of gaining immortality, which is a boring way to create stakes. Not having them tangibly affect or attack New York outside of that earthquake was a boring way to operate. The Hand is just boring. And we still don't know why the Black Sky is important. It carried over the trait from Daredevil season two of throwing epic-sounding terms to seem important when they don't have any actual substance behind them to make us understand or care. I only hope that Madame Gao survived, but I have no idea what she can contribute to future plots now in a new way besides starting a neo-Hand. I just want the Hand to be completely done with, unless they go the route of having Kingpin recruit Hand ninjas when he returns like in the comics, which would be awesome.
! I wish the supporting characters of each series interacted more. All we got was Colleen and Misty by the end of the season. That quick scene between Karen and Trish felt pointless, and it was a bit humorous two blond media ladies that act as damsels in distress for some reason I can't put into words lol.
! Daredevil sacrificing himself to try redeeming Elektra was selfish and stupid. Especially when it almost backfired when she cut the elevator wire. I'm not a fan of the whole femme fatale trope in superhero stories to begin with since it can easily tread into dumb situations where the protagonist risks both the safety of himself and others for the slight chance that they could be a good person deep down. She made her choice to kill the heroes and destroy New York. Kick her ass and haul her to prison like she deserves, and when she isn't in the middle of almost destroying the city or killing your friends, THEN try to take the time to talk some sense into her if you still somehow care. Daredevil and Elektra's interactions in season two felt more organic and understandable since the latter character was a selfish anti-hero while she's a full blown yandere megalomaniacal villain here. Matt deserved to die for being such a blithering idiot.
! Having Matt survive for a reason that will inevitably be an asspull is also stupid. I don't care for how him meeting his mother is apparently being rushed either. I was expecting them to save that for an adaptation of Born Again (probably the most famous Daredevil story of all time) during season three or four when Fisk is released from prison. Damnit, is it to much to ask for seeing Matt get stabbed in a snowy alley by Turk in a Santa Claus suit?

If I were to rate the show, I would give it a 6/10. A decent popcorn experience during a summer break where you have nothing better to do. But a part of me feels like that rating is being a bit generous.

      The perfect summary .

      @RoboBlue:

Yeah, fuck the 20%. I'm concerned about the 80% shrinking though.

Those 80% of Bernie supporters are also saying fuck those 20% of idiots who didn't vote for Hillary.

Nobody likes Bernie Bros except Trump and his supporters. We don't have to worry about that 80% shrinking because they know that when people are rallying against Bernie voters they're not talking about the 80% who supported Bernie in the primaries and Hillary in the general. They're talking about the numbskulls who decided it was Bernie or quit.

Here's my really crappy photo I took when the eclipse was near its peak in my area. I took it on my cellphone through my eclipse glasses.

[hide][/hide]It looked much better when you saw it with your own eyes (with glasses on).

I can only imagine how awesome it looks for people who are getting a total eclipse.

I ordered some glasses on Amazon a couple days ago.

Damn glasses are expensive and I think the prices have gone further up since then…

Also, here's a solar eclipse computer to help you figure out how much of an eclipse you'll be getting by your location.
