Just watched Kingsman 2 right now. The conditions maybe weren't the best (the spanish dub was an atrocity, it was a bit late, we ate a bit too much right before entering the cinema. . .). . . .
. . . .but man, what a MASSIVE disappointment. And it hurts. I really, really wanted to watch this one, cause I think Kingsman is one of the best action movies of the past 5 years or so, and this one is. . .really bad. Like, there're almost NO redeeming elements. The dialogue is insanely uninspired, certain actors seem to spend half the movie in auto-pilot, bored out of their minds; in fact, half the cast does nothing, literally NOTHING; the villain is mind-numbingly boring, the romance sub-plot is impossibly unengaging…
But by far, the biggest offender is. . .the movie is a complete, utter BORE. I nearly fell asleep halfway through it. It's uninspired, there's no passion behind it, there's no creativity, there's nothing, NOTHING behind this movie's creation that might make you think "well, they at least tried hard, it just didn't work". No. This smells like a task they were forced to do, and they did it. . .but they never even tried to go beyond that, beyond "doing the job and call it a day". A shame.
Compared to this, Baby Driver, which I saw a couple days ago, and while maybe not being as good as I expected (I mean, it's Edgar Wright, I always expect A LOT from him), blows it out of the water in aaaaaaall aspects. Crispy dialogue, dynamic action scenes, engaging interactions, great editing, good (if sparse) use of the secondary cast, and overall really smart (except for the ending, which is kinda meh). And you can just feel Edgar's freaking passion for that project on every fucking frame of every fucking scene. Like, really, it's far from his best work, but the passion just transpires from all its pores.
