@Aaronrules380:
I disagree. There are plenty of things published that are complete trash. Like Bleach, or Air Gear. Writing is subjective to an extent, but one can judge it objectively based on a series of objective issues.
Toriko has no real themes, no interesting characterization, and is generally very shallow. It's not poorly written, but that doesn't mean it's well written either. Toriko is just meant to be a fun action story with no real thought behind it, and with that in mind it succeeds. But the thing is, I don't get how someone can consider something so shallow to be amazing. It's good, but there are plenty of manga that do the exact same things Toriko does better, because Toriko really doesn't do much
To start off I would like to say that the theme of Toriko is without a doubt FOOD. There is no deneying that fact. It is a manga based around food and all that is possible with it. In order to build up this world that revolved around food probably took some considerable thinking. It may seem like Toriko is purely fighting with no real plot and that the writer didn't put to much thought into it but that isn't really true. Yes there is a shit ton of fighting but Toriko does contain some other elements. Like the character interactions, I personally love the dynamics between all four heavenly kings and the dynamics between the "old generation" and the "new generation". I also find the creativity of this manga to be quite astounding, the writer really expresses his imagination through the different kinds of flora,fauna, and environments that show up during the series.
