Wow, havent posted in this thread in over 3 years. Anyway, this song brought me back to the the hundreds of times that I watched Fantasia as a kid, and how much I used to utterly dread this section of the movie. Not to disregard this piece of music- I don't have aptitude to properly judge classical music like this, but that in particular section of the movie was very long winded. Just listening to this song with provided animation in this video, it is a bit hypnotic. There so many different sections of this song with some quick chaotic parts abruptly changing into calmer melodies, and then once again slowly building up. In all honesty, it feels like the song itself is telling a story. Quite beautiful.

RE: The users who read, but rarely post
Been here for a bit and post in spurts when I am in the mood. I used to post a lot in the music forum but got busy. I still remember when I first joined I was only 13 and I was joining manga and anime forums like crazy. I remember the sites I used to lurk on the most were this one, onemanga, narutofan, and stoptazmo. Now I am 21 and this is the only forum I ever visit on occasion for spoilers on Tuesday night. It's crazy how fast time flies.

RE: Forced Listening Thread
I am surprised how much I enjoyed this song. For some reason, when I saw the name of the song I was expecting something metal, but this was very much different from that. I am extremely bad at measuring the type of mood a song is trying to portray, but I generally felt happy and upbeat throughout this song, and a lot of the video seems to be have innocent, happy imagery like the dad and kid playing together, but at the same time there are some pretty jarring parts, especially towards the end. I really didn't know what to make of some scenes like the girl with the nosebleed. Don't really know what type of emotional reaction I am supposed to get from that. Listened to the song again but actually payed attention t-o the lyrics, and I am surprised how very different the message of the song is from the tone. Don't get me wrong, I actually like the difference, it makes the song a lot more interesting. All in all, I actually really enjoyed the content of the song itself, but had a hard time following the video.

RE: Magi
Mogamett is really one of the morally grey characters that I've seen in manga. I don't think there is a character that I have ever felt so ambivalent about it. Most of his views on the goi seem a bit much, but I completely agree with most of things he did in this chapter. Just because Scheherazade created Titus, doesn't give her the right to control his life and when he dies.

RE: Toriko
No. "On hiatus for next issue" means "next issue" not "for a month and a half starting next issue". This is Jump issue 51. It's on hiatus for issue 52. The next one is 1. Why the hell would the manga be on hiatus for that long…
Oh good, I was pretty sure they restarted the issues earlier than the actual New Year, but wasn't sure.
-
RE: Toriko
Just read the little message on the last page. It says that the manga is going to hiatus and will be back on issue 1 of the New Year. What does that exactly mean? Does jump start the issues for the New Year earlier or are we not getting chapters for awhile.

After 6 days without power, my family couldn't take it anymore and went to Philadelphia where my aunt lives. Luckily my mom had enough gas to make it here. You should see the few open gas stations in New Jersey. Some have 4 hour waits and the lines can go on for miles. Fun week all in all.

RE: Forced Listening Thread
The first reaction I had when I heard the guys voice was "Damn, he sounds like the the guy from System of a Down". Even other than the voice, the song itself sounds a lot like SOAD. The one thing I noticed more than anything else about the song, are the lyrics. I really feel as though this guy has some meaningful things to stay. I get a very environmentalist vibe from the song. The song itself is very catchy, I felt myself nodding my head during the more exciting parts. Really enjoyed this song.

RE: Magi
I've been going through all the different staffs that all the different magi and magician have. Some seriously cool intricate designs, and also some nice simple ones as well. I like Judal's small wand though there is something about Aladdin's staff, maybe the way he got it or the small angel figurehead it has. I like the small touches the manga has like that, how all the weapons and staffs are kinda representative of the characters. Really want to see how Yunan's staff looks like.

RE: Forced Listening Thread
I enjoyed this song quite a bit. Feels like an over-dramatized version of music that would play in the background in a movie or video game when someone walks into a haunted castle or something. I feel as though this song has like 3 different parts to it. The first is a bit more electronic and more light-hearted. Then it starts to mellow out to almost silence. Then it starts feeling a bit more dark and classical. The violins and the drums gave it a somewhat chaotic vibe. With all its different moods, it feels like its telling a story with its music. Good pick.

RE: Forced Listening Thread
Oh, a Wagomu song! Always a good experience. There is something very unsettling about this song… I really liked the lead singers voice at the beginning. I thought this would be another good 60s song and then the singing stopped and I heard the group of people saying some sort of evil prayer or something. I caught myself looking around my room a couple of time through the course of the song to make sure there weren't ghosts or something around. When the girl started singing again I felt as if there was something there that wasn't there before(lol, as I read through this post to edit it I realized that I just made a Beauty and the Beast reference). Her voice felt a lot more haunting. I had to listen to the song again with the lyrics this time, and now did I understand what they were singing about. Should of realized by the band name and title of the song. A very interesting song that I normally would have never stumbled upon.
I'm gonna post two songs. Both of them are somewhat short and don't really have much content to them in terms of singing. Mostly just good beats. You can review just one of them or both.

RE: Forced Listening Thread
Definitely different. I tried to get into experimental music awhile back but I was never really able to get absorbed into it. It always felt a bit chaotic, somewhat discordant. With this song, at the very least I did feel as though there was some sort of order, even though at times it felt a bit un-harmonic. Not really quite sure the feeling this song is supposed to invoke in the listener. I won't lie, this song felt quite a bit dark to me. The guys singing voice is really creepy, the screaming felt somewhat unsettling, and how all of this was followed by a somewhat calming chant really gave the song a conflicting tone. The song got calmer as it went on which I actually started to enjoy. The song was different from what I usually listen to but I still enjoyed it overall.

RE: Forced Listening Thread
I was waiting for someone with more of an inspired insight than mine to review this song, but I guess classical is little daughnting for most of the people here to review. Alas, I will try. What can I say about this song? I've always found it really difficult to pinpoint the exact tone and mood of older classical piano pieces. They have so many abrupt changes from peaceful and slow to cacophonous and almost frenzied. Modern pieces are just so much easier to connect with, at least for me. They are much more straight forward. Songs like this almost feel as though they are like puzzle. You try to take all the different emotions this song has and try to make some sort of coherent message at the end. Really all old classical pieces feel kind o like this to me. For a more sophisticated minds I guess. Still really loved this song. It was beautiful and obviously the pianist was extremely skillful. Enjoyed the song.

RE: The Great Gatsby
Been waiting for this trailer for awhile. One of the few books in high school that I enjoyed.
Edit: The Indian in me is slipping out. Is that Amitabh Bachchan, one of the greatest bollywood actors of all time, in this movie? Anyone unfamiliar should reflect back to the scene in slumdog millionaire where the kid gets the autographed card from his favorite movie star.

RE: Spill.com, ACOCO, LEOG, Loading Bar, Remote Viewing and LDT discussion
Used to think they were incredibly funny. Remember the first night I watched their reviews I stayed up till like 5 am and watched every single one of their video reviews. This was back when Wall-E was still in theaters so I was a bit on the younger side, so enjoyed how they always find something funny to comment on in every movie they reviewed. Used to really like ACOCO and LEOG till Carlyle left the show(my favorite reviewer on the site by far) and LEOG started getting all these really obnoxious loud mouthed guys who really weren't all too funny. Still enjoy the video reviews somewhat, though at times it feels as though they try to force jokes into some of their movie reviews and they sometimes fall flat. Never really listened to any of their video game stuff.

RE: Forced Listening Thread
I had to play though this song twice because the first time I listened to it, I got so absorbed into the guitar and the whole ambiance of the song that I completely ignored the lyrics. THe mood of the song is combination of gleeful happiness and a tinge of nostalgia as if the singer is looking backwards looking into his past. My personal way on how to discern a really good song from an okay one is to measure your emotional reaction to a song without really listening to it but rather just feeling it. I don't know if I'm expressing myself correctly but I kind of just shut of all my cognitive functions and just let myself get absorbed into the emotion of the song. Even with Hip Hop a lot of the time I don't even pay attention to the lyrics even after 3 or 4 listenings. I do think, however, that lyrics do have the ability to push a song which is based on the purely on the music into the level of "emotionally touching" or "emotionally inspiring". Music gets you to feel but lyrics get you to think. Not to say music alone does not get listeners to think but often enough each individual listener ends up getting a completely different message from a song. With lyrics you get the actual artists vision for what the song represents. With all that being said I can really see that difference between the lyrics of the song I posted and this song. I remember in some of my writing classes I've taken, the teachers would always tell us to "show" feelings, not just "tell" them, meaning that don't just tell the reader that the character is happy but describe him in a way that makes it seem to the reader he is happy. My song was very direct on the way it described certain emotions which gave it a bit of cheesiness. If I've learned one thing in life it is that people do no like to be told what to do or feel. Often times people will do just the opposite just to spite the person telling them. But tell them in an indirect way which doesn't seem all too pushy, like the way the mountain goats song did, then often enough you see people react in a better way. I mean after listening to the song a couple of times, I just felt a lot more happy. Just the way the describe certain things and the emotion in their voices are really something else. Everytimes they say "you slipped free" my heart strings really get pulled. Anyway, that is all I got for this subject.
Guess I'm in a Jim Henson mood this week. If anyone hasn't ever watched Jim Henson's funeral where all the Muppeteers sang Jim's favorite songs, something I recommend.

American Pie by Don McClean, which, itself, is an awesome song and, as far as I'm concerned, is required listening. You should definitely check it out.
Lol, I was trying to find some songs on my ipod that my brother in law would recognize and I played this song for him literally like an half an hour ago.

RE: Forced Listening Thread
Songs like this really want me to learn how to play guitar. I might not be the biggest metal aficionado around but I still remember when I was younger I used to always pretend I had an air guitar and put on songs like this and just go at it. Anyway, just my bit of nostalgia for the day. Songs like this are just fun to listen to just because they bring out something instinctual in you that most genres of music don't really tap into. That beast that everyone has in them pretty well represented by this guys voice. Love the guitar as i said before. Anyway I really can't aptly criticize metal because I really am not experienced in listening to it. I guess I pretty singular in my music habits which is relatively bad. One of my goals for the summer is to expand my music horizons but it really is kind of tough to step out of your comfort zone in music and try something new that you don't whether or not you would enjoy.
Anyway, a song with no cheesy lyrics just for you Wagomu. Your not the first one to tell me that I listen to sappy songs. I don't know maybe I'm just too sentimental.

RE: Forced Listening Thread
Well this is certainly very different from what I am used to. I can't even really pin point what genre this is. I guess its metal…Don't get me wrong I certainly enjoyed this song. I like its relatively easy, relaxed pace through the song. Never felt as if they were in a rush to finish the song. Did enjoy the main singers beatboxing... Well I don't really know the exact word for he was doing but it was enjoyable if not funny at times. If nothing else this song brought a smile to my face.
-
RE: Forced Listening Thread
Usually not a big fan of metal stuff but this was actually somewhat enjoyable. Really liked the guitar and base throughout out this song. The singers voice is what makes this song though. Unique and not all that rough compared to a lot of metal singers I've heard. From what I just read about them online they sample a lot of 8 bit music in their songs. Seriously I listen to a lot of old 8 bit and 16 bit music so that really wants me to make me listen some more of their songs. Enjoyed this pick.

RE: Forced Listening Thread
Well Billy Joel has always been one of my favorite songwriters in rock and his voice really has a haunting quality that really give his songs this really contemplative feeling when listening to them. I felt myself space out more than once in this song. Really though his lyrics are really when made him so famous. From what I read online about this song, he actually did a tour in Russia back when the Cold War was still going on and actually visited Leningrad with his daughter. During the time this song came out he must have been one of the first artist to empathize with the Soviets. Really good message and really good song.

RE: Forced Listening Thread
Well this was a long one. Not that I'm complaining. I love jazzy stuff like this. These guys really know how to let go. I felt as though each one of these guys were going in there own separate direction irrespective of the others and yet they also feel somewhat coordinated together. Guess that is really free jazz is all about. The guy on the saxophone was really something though. Loved his little solo in the middle. Good stuff.
Haven't posted k-os for awhile.

The Classic Tales Podcast, Escapist Podcast, The Game Informer Show, Gamespot Podcast, The Geekbox, Giant Bombcast, The Legacy Music Hour(8 bit and 16 bit era tracks), Rebel FM, Gamescoop, Podcast Unlocked, Podcast Beyond, Nintendo Voice Chat, Joystiq Podcast, 1UP Podcast.
Mostly gaming podcasts but I do have 1 or 2 other ones I listen to. Don't listen to all of these weekly. Some are more entertaining than others. Have to say IGN podcasts are probably the most entertaining out of the bunch. Information wise Escapist is probably the most interesting. Legacy Music Hour is really good to go to sleep to. Classic Tales Podcast is what I look forward to the most every week. They release new parts of classic audiobooks everyweek.

RE: Forced Listening Thread
Beautiful song. Don't know any other word that is more appropriate for the song but beautiful. The string instrument he is playing is so beautiful and just so well played. Their voices are so smooth and crisp. The man singing in an African language had so much feeling in his voice and the guy singing in English really had so powerful lyrics. Of course as someone who loves Hip Hop I really enjoyed the speed rapping this guy was doing in the middle. Good stuff.
I think I have posted this before but it really is good song so Ill post it again.

RE: Forced Listening Thread
Didn't know what to expect when I saw the cover but I guess this song fits it pretty well. Somewhat crazy, with a whole bunch of instruments playing at the same time. Really, songs like this are so much fun to listen to because you really can't predict what direction the song is heading to. Really like the part near the end when there was actually someone singing. Gave me a really good laugh hearing them making sounds. Overall this song was very good indeed.

RE: Forced Listening Thread
Well, first off- really interesting looking cover for this song. Don't exactly know what it is- maybe a dinosaur in a trench coat looking at yellow stoplight. Anyway, really liked the voice of the women though didn't really understand what she said. Well, what she said doesn't really matter in a song like this which really depends mostly on the actual sound of her voice to compliment the atmosphere of this song. Really liked electronic feel this song had. Good pick.
Posted a song by this guy a year or two back but he is really good even though he sings in French- his voice just emanates feeling to the point where the language in itself doesn't matter. Personal opinion of course. Let us see what all of you think.

RE: Forced Listening Thread
For some reason when I saw the cover for this album I pictured something along the lines of hardcore metal, so I was preparing my ears for what was to come. To my surprise I got some truly genuine rock and roll that was oddly enough pretty relaxing. Really this old school stuff is really the best. 70s and 80s music really have a unique atmosphere that really doesn't exist anymore. Truly I enjoyed this one. Good Pick.
Anyway lets have some fun. Haven't posted for awhile.

RE: Forced Listening Thread
Happy a song was like this was the first one I listened to in this thread in over a month. The most distinguishing thing about the song is the singers accent, which really works pretty well with the song. Pretty simple background music for the majority of the song- hear a trumpet, the drums, some keyboard, but at the end it becomes bit more intense. The lyrics of the song are pretty strong, and actually have seem meaning behind it. Sadly enough the guys who need to listen to a song like this are not the types who would actually look for it.

RE: Forced Listening Thread
I really, really did not want to review this song since I have heard it so many times, and wanted someone else to experience it but I think I have waited enough. I'll say this now rather than later. I like both versions of the song. It really has to do with taste preference. What kind of beats do you like more. The soft, smooth flow of Nujabes or the very distinct guitar instrumental one that Fat Jon made(for some reason I remember I different version for Fat Jon but that may have been a remix as well). Either way I do feel that Nujabes actually exceeds that original in terms of matching the rapping with the beats.
Anyway for the song. Feels really weird reviewing a Nujabes song. I have been listening to them for so long and just naturally began to love them without giving the actual music much critical analysis. This is gonna be fun. Oh man do I love the Five Deez. Each of their raps are so different and distinct and at the same time the group just fits so well together, Truly I really enjoyed the flow, the lyrics, their voices, all of it. What can I say for Nujabes. I don't were he sampled the "side to side" bit, but it really is such a good piece to put into this song. Him scratching to that as his msuic was in the background really gives this song such a distinct flavor compared to so many other rap songs. Man this song just makes me smile and just want to look into the sky and daydream. The video fits really well too.
