The singer feels like a "cool dad" to me, and this concert is like his dream. :I
I don't get why that huge audience is so into the music… It's nothing really rockin'... The guys singing is kinda... Weird. :S
But they are, and I'm just dumb as usual. :)
The lighting and scene setup looks sweet, especially towards the end! It all gets going and I found myself moving along. Only to be turned around by sudden AC/DC. O,o? Whhaa?

Well this was a long one. Not that I'm complaining. I love jazzy stuff like this. These guys really know how to let go. I felt as though each one of these guys were going in there own separate direction irrespective of the others and yet they also feel somewhat coordinated together. Guess that is really free jazz is all about. The guy on the saxophone was really something though. Loved his little solo in the middle. Good stuff.
Haven't posted k-os for awhile.

I'm gonna be honest, I'm not crazy about this song. As far as hip-hop songs go this one was fairly slow, and while I do tend to prefer fast songs to slow songs, that doesn't mean I'll automatically dismiss it and there are many slow songs I enjoy very much. That being said, this is a slow song that didn't do much for me. It just didn't really evoke any sort of emotion out of me. If there's one thing I will say to its credit it's that it did have a unique sound and rhythm. With repeated listenings I may enjoy it more, but for now it just doesn't do much for me.
Anyway, I got B-52s Cosmic Thing in the mail last week, so to commemorate that, here's an overlooked song off that album.
-
That was a excellent song. I've already said this before, but I still don't understand my like of 80's rock. It's so different from everything else I listen to, but I think it's great. I liked this song specifically because of it's upbeat yet slow feeling to it. The vocals are very relaxing and pleasant to listen to as well. I'm especially glad you posted it if it's overlooked, because I get all my 80's music fixes from radio stations, which usually only play big hits. Very nice pick.

I'm not really into trance/techno as much as I used to. It's still got a nice beat, and the vocals feel nostalgic in an odd way even though I've never heard this song before.
But now, it's time for something a little different for this thread.Along with Blind Guardian, Gamma Ray made me jump on the power metal bandwagon. This is one of the most played songs on my iPod.
-
Power metal is one of those genres I haven't gotten to know. I've been exposed to it only second hand, mostly by friends and my father.
Always found it to be a little cheesy… :) Like much metal that's about like... Fantasy stuff... But it's power-part is awesome, stuff to excite oneself about.
As for the song, the cover feels very much like Star Gate. And oh, theres the ark of the covenant. :) Hahaha.
The lyrics fit into that kinda world with prophesies and whatnot.
The powermetal doesn't really fit into it but... combines with it to make another kinda world... Erh. >__> I'm tripping(not really), ignore what I said. I would have to explain that a whole lot more for it to make any kind of sense.
I'll just say that for me it's a song to get the mind going places with force. :) -
I picked a good time to come here! Henry Cowell was a wonderful composer and he's at his best in this piece. Modernism in classical music produced some stuff that I just can't listen to, self absorbed bullshit if I'm to be completely honest, but this works! Looking at the title I started imagining a tiger on the prowl, the imagery came to life and after that I was completely captivated by each new direction the piece took.
-
Given that no one has commented on this one yet… well I'm a huge fan of BVSC, they are simply one of the bands I consider essential in my music library. Chan Chan is by far the most recognized song of their repertoire, and even though I've listened to it countless times it still sounds as fresh and nostalgic as the first time. Simply, a great song in every aspect.
I was going to post some latin jazz but decided to share this first:
-
I thought for a while that the song sounded familiar, so I listened to it a couple of times to try to figure out why. Had I looked at name of the band that made it I would have saved me some time. I listened, and posted, about another one of their songs in this very thread. They still sound good. This song is flowing very nicely indeed. I get the feeling that I'm floating along with the music. :)
(By the way, I would love to here some latin jazz!) :) -
I dig the nice building, brooding madness that is this man's method. The guy is building an atmosphere and wrapping himself in it. The piece starts to meander and I feel like, though he isn't lost in his vision, his vision lost momentum. The second half of the piece is a continued fade out that puts it off balance. It centers itself far past its points of interest. And while that, in itself is interesting, I think that overall the piece suffers for it. Perhaps if it were a part of something bigger, then I could understand better, but I don't think it can stand by itself.
-
I'm really glad I listened to this song, if only because of how different it is from what I'm used to. Man, it's really hard for me to pin down exactly what this song sounds like. It sounds religious and also kind of folk-song-ish, I guess. The singer and the instruments come together to creat a really solemn yet bleak atmosphere. And I guess that's the feeling that this song gives me more than anything else is sadness and somberness. But don't get me wrong, I could also listen to this song without feeling sad as I can appreciate how well-crafted and atmospheric it is. As I said before, this song is kind of hard for me to pin down (so I'm sorry if I'm not making much sense) but it's a great song and, again, I'm glad I listened to it.
-
Well Billy Joel has always been one of my favorite songwriters in rock and his voice really has a haunting quality that really give his songs this really contemplative feeling when listening to them. I felt myself space out more than once in this song. Really though his lyrics are really when made him so famous. From what I read online about this song, he actually did a tour in Russia back when the Cold War was still going on and actually visited Leningrad with his daughter. During the time this song came out he must have been one of the first artist to empathize with the Soviets. Really good message and really good song.
-
I'm diggin' it. It's super relaxing, smooth like butter, and reminds me of Nomak and Nujabes in a way (though less jazzy). I could see it being used as an ending in an anime with a nice modern edge, or at least a BGM.
It's also great that while it's hip-hop, the rapping isn't all about sex and drugs and filled with obscene lyrics. It's one of the biggest things that turns me away from the genre as a while (it's just so dumb).
Assuming the rest of their music is like this, I think I can safely say I'm a fan.
Now, while this may not be on Youtube, I think it still counts.
-
Yes! Absolutely loved it! (I think your posted song still counts, even though it isn't a youtube.com video).
For some reason or another, I either really love or really hate songs like the one you posted, and, it just so happens I loved the one you posted. It's a catchy tune with incredibly infectious beats that I–and, I'm pretty sure others--can't help but to hum in my head. (I also love the picture and what's going on while the song is playing). The foreign vocals also lend to the song's addictiveness.
-
Usually not a big fan of metal stuff but this was actually somewhat enjoyable. Really liked the guitar and base throughout out this song. The singers voice is what makes this song though. Unique and not all that rough compared to a lot of metal singers I've heard. From what I just read about them online they sample a lot of 8 bit music in their songs. Seriously I listen to a lot of old 8 bit and 16 bit music so that really wants me to make me listen some more of their songs. Enjoyed this pick.
-
I've listened to it several times now to try and hear more of the lyrics. But I'll be damned if I can pick up more then a few words (and a couple sentences) here and there. No luck finding them online either. Credit most likely goes to my subpar English skill. It's a shame 'cause I'm getting the feeling that they are interesting. (Since there were telescope mentioned and space and whatnot.) :)
Otherwise it's a non-tense song. Envelops me in a sort of feeling of well-being. -
Well this is certainly very different from what I am used to. I can't even really pin point what genre this is. I guess its metal…Don't get me wrong I certainly enjoyed this song. I like its relatively easy, relaxed pace through the song. Never felt as if they were in a rush to finish the song. Did enjoy the main singers beatboxing... Well I don't really know the exact word for he was doing but it was enjoyable if not funny at times. If nothing else this song brought a smile to my face.
-
The song sounds pretty sweet and mellow, but the lyrics kind of make me gag. I do like this piece from a musical standpoint, but I need to dissociate myself from what's actually being said to really enjoy it, which is a bit difficult since it's so clear. It's exactly how I feel about "Brown Lady" by Nujabes, a song that I love, but can't stand if I pay too much attention. It feels odd to criticize a song based on lyrics, since they usually don't factor in, unless we're talking about the Mountain Goats, but when it's so up front it's hard to ignore. I'm having conflicted feelings here.
-
Songs like this really want me to learn how to play guitar. I might not be the biggest metal aficionado around but I still remember when I was younger I used to always pretend I had an air guitar and put on songs like this and just go at it. Anyway, just my bit of nostalgia for the day. Songs like this are just fun to listen to just because they bring out something instinctual in you that most genres of music don't really tap into. That beast that everyone has in them pretty well represented by this guys voice. Love the guitar as i said before. Anyway I really can't aptly criticize metal because I really am not experienced in listening to it. I guess I pretty singular in my music habits which is relatively bad. One of my goals for the summer is to expand my music horizons but it really is kind of tough to step out of your comfort zone in music and try something new that you don't whether or not you would enjoy.
Anyway, a song with no cheesy lyrics just for you Wagomu. Your not the first one to tell me that I listen to sappy songs. I don't know maybe I'm just too sentimental.
-
Sorry if this was meant for Wagomu, but I wanted to make a post (and by all means Wagomu, give your thoughts on it). But anyway, this was a really nice song. It's got a very soothing and pleasant tune to it. I'd love listening to this song if I was in a restaurant or lounge room or something (of course, it does sound like lounge music). Hmm, I guess I don't have too much else to say about it since the tune and rhythm stay pretty consistent throughout the song. But that's fine, since it's supposed to be a calming atmospheric song for easy listening and it succeeds at that very well. Great choice.
All right, what the hell, let's get some Weird Al up in here.
-
Weird Al! :) I've listened to some of his songs but not an artist I follow. I think I've even heard this song sometime before but I'm not sure. But I'm glad you posted it, some fun music is just what I need. :) As per usual he's pretty freakin' awesome. The master of his trade(parody music that is).
Hell, I don't even know or care what the original song was! ;P -
Hell, I don't even know or care what the original song was! ;P
American Pie by Don McLean, which, itself, is an awesome song and, as far as I'm concerned, is required listening. You should definitely check it out.
-
American Pie by Don McClean, which, itself, is an awesome song and, as far as I'm concerned, is required listening. You should definitely check it out.
Lol, I was trying to find some songs on my ipod that my brother in law would recognize and I played this song for him literally like an half an hour ago.

-
Read the first page, Mad Dog. Gotta review the above song first for this thread to have a point.
Anyway, a song with no cheesy lyrics just for you Wagomu. Your not the first one to tell me that I listen to sappy songs. I don't know maybe I'm just too sentimental.
Musically, I enjoy some sappy and sentimental sounds, but I feel that it's harder to pull off well lyrically. When you use stiff language to describe the intangible, it comes off awkwardly and that's a stumbling block in the path of my listening. Maybe I'm just insane, though, haha.
Pere Ubu is a band I've only really listened to in passing. I really like the offbeat and somewhat disjointed feel of the song. It has a really odd and frantic energy to it. I had to find a studio version of the song to better judge it, though. The live recording was a bit hard to decipher in parts. The song itself feels like a shattered vase put back together incorrectly by duct tape that somehow looks better for it. The pieces of the song feel separate, like they shouldn't fit and yet they hook pretty damn well and drag you along with it for its duration. Nice stuff.
Now to posit some of the sappy and emotional music I listen to by posting another Mountain Goats song. Haven't done this in a while:
(I would like to hear your opinion, Hawkeye, regardless of who else reviews this!)
-
I had to play though this song twice because the first time I listened to it, I got so absorbed into the guitar and the whole ambiance of the song that I completely ignored the lyrics. THe mood of the song is combination of gleeful happiness and a tinge of nostalgia as if the singer is looking backwards looking into his past. My personal way on how to discern a really good song from an okay one is to measure your emotional reaction to a song without really listening to it but rather just feeling it. I don't know if I'm expressing myself correctly but I kind of just shut of all my cognitive functions and just let myself get absorbed into the emotion of the song. Even with Hip Hop a lot of the time I don't even pay attention to the lyrics even after 3 or 4 listenings. I do think, however, that lyrics do have the ability to push a song which is based on the purely on the music into the level of "emotionally touching" or "emotionally inspiring". Music gets you to feel but lyrics get you to think. Not to say music alone does not get listeners to think but often enough each individual listener ends up getting a completely different message from a song. With lyrics you get the actual artists vision for what the song represents. With all that being said I can really see that difference between the lyrics of the song I posted and this song. I remember in some of my writing classes I've taken, the teachers would always tell us to "show" feelings, not just "tell" them, meaning that don't just tell the reader that the character is happy but describe him in a way that makes it seem to the reader he is happy. My song was very direct on the way it described certain emotions which gave it a bit of cheesiness. If I've learned one thing in life it is that people do no like to be told what to do or feel. Often times people will do just the opposite just to spite the person telling them. But tell them in an indirect way which doesn't seem all too pushy, like the way the mountain goats song did, then often enough you see people react in a better way. I mean after listening to the song a couple of times, I just felt a lot more happy. Just the way the describe certain things and the emotion in their voices are really something else. Everytimes they say "you slipped free" my heart strings really get pulled. Anyway, that is all I got for this subject.
Guess I'm in a Jim Henson mood this week. If anyone hasn't ever watched Jim Henson's funeral where all the Muppeteers sang Jim's favorite songs, something I recommend.
-
Jim Henson and the Muppets are great. And the song was very nice. Simple, as it should be. Piano was graceful, and Robin's tone set the atmosphere of the song well. I wish I had more to say, but I feel this song promotes more thought and reflection than words. Good pick.
Now for something a little more happy. And electronic.
-
The techno voice in the beginning does seem annoying, but the sudden change of voice improve the music.
I don´t care about the repetition of phrases along the music (just like Daft Punk´s songs), and the constant growth of the beats and rhythm makes the music addictive and danceable. But, the return of the high techno voice kind of "kills" the desire to dance, but it returns to normal immediately after, so it´s not a lost cause.
ending with gradually lowering the volume of the music…a certain relief.
-
Lol I probably wouldn't have even clicked if I didn't recognize Kanon. Out of Air, Kanon, and Clannad, Kanon was my favorite. That being said, I don't think Shing02 really fits the song. His rapping is pretty muffled from the mix and during some parts of the song it's too noticeably jarring imo, like the the flow doesn't match the beat. Which is a shame because his work with Nujabes is pretty damn solid stuff. The parts where it goes "I mean that from my heart" were nice ideas. I think sampling commentaries or speeches generally would have been pretty cool. But even those interjections seem weirdly placed sometimes. Like around 3:17 it just seems drowned. So I probably would've liked it a lot more without the vocals.
I can't be the only one who likes math?
-
I really like The Fall of Troy, although I think their masterpiece was definitely Doppelganger. Manipulator is definitely good stuff too, but the "voice" production feels weird. Doppelganger had a perfect production behind it, with this album some stuff doesn't sound right. And while I liked Phantom on the Horizon, I thought In the unlikely event was definitely forgettable stuff.
That out of the way: this is definitely one of the great songs of the album. The instrumental part starting around the 2:00 mark is pure bliss. It has a great and catchy chorus, and both the melody and guitar work are very cool. Surprisingly, the vocals sound better in this song than others from the album. Great choice!
Not the best audio quality but, anyways, there it goes, the album of the (past) year:
-
great start, something mystical and medieval. The part with the piano and guitar along with the drums was cool.
The march rhythm that the singer did was predictable and the lyrics didn´t fit the melody.
I really liked 1:42, moreover, great song.
-
Hmm, well based on the Japanese video title, that is not what I was expecting. But hey, I liked it. Nothing wrong with a cool rapid-paced song with a vocalist busting out lyrics faster than you can register them. The instrumentals are interesting contrast. To be honest, when the song started, to me, it sounded like the soundtrack to a video game or adventure series. And, well, I guess it stayed that way throughout. While the song is fun, it's not too terribly original, but I still enjoyed listening to it.
Anyway, here's something from The Who's concept album Tommy, so understand that this song is in the context of an ongoing narrative.
-
I haven't heard many songs by The Who, so this is something fresh for me. This does however sound exactly like I would expect a The Who song to sound, and that's not a bad thing. They have a good style from what I've heard and it is reflected well in this song. I didn't really listen to the lyrics all that much, so it doesn't bother me that they may be confusing due to being out of context. I concentrated more on the instruments and voice, which go very well together. Also, I'm sure this will sound incredibly weird, but parts of the song reminded me of Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer. Crazy, but that's the connection my mind made. Overall, I enjoyed the listen. Good pick.
-
Well, I reviewed another Nightwish song not that long ago. This song is one I've heard several times before. It was on the Alone in the Dark soundtrack, a favorite move of mine. :) It's also been played a lot amongst my friends.
Overall I love the sound of the song. My enjoyment runs into problems when I attempt to follow the lyrics… I do not understand what the **** they are singing about!! :D Hahaha!
I have two thoughts, first one is that "angel" is some drug and they are singing the song to their drug dealer trying to score a hit for free... :P
Second one is that "angel" means sex organ. :I And the song is about how they wants to have casual sex.
In which case I like their euphemisms...
"Prize of the night", "I wish I had your angel tonight", "last dance".EDIT: I feel I maybe should add a little disclaimer. This song is about sexual assault and violence.
-
Oddly enough, I enjoyed this song; and this genre (of weird) isn't usually my "cup of tea". I love the instrumentation, particular the wind instrument (flute), and the vocalization fits with the instrumentation very well. I won't deny it though…at points...I felt like I was high listening to it, and the background art shown while it was playing sure didn't help ease that feeling. Overall, good pick Sarfallet; like always really--I'll be looking up more of this group.
Disclaimer: Some harsh vocals throughout.
-
Since I've been on a metal kick for the last week, I'll take this one. I always like it when songs like this contrast fast verses with a slower chorus. I'm not really a big fan of harsh vocals, but I don't have a problem with it. The vocals when they weren't harsh were very nice though. I also don't really get it when metal artists do some kind of rap(not really)/talking thing, which is the only way I can really describe the bridge, although that probably isn't accurate. But whatever, it's not a big deal. Just doesn't do much for me. Anyway, still a good metal song overall. Enjoyed it. Nice pick.
-
The samples in the techno parts sounds familiar, like some classic… Trance, maybe? It's high powered stuff, which I would assume fits well with a racing game. :)
It also, kinda, works with the Rob Zombie parts. Parts which of course are awesome. Dragula is one of those immortal songs. Stuck forever in the mind of myself and a large part of my generation. -
Reminded me a lot of the music from the Triplets of Belleville. Mostly since it has odd percussion sounds throughout the whole thing.
I really enjoyed it though, I play drums and I'm a sucker for odd sounds and beats.
The other instruments that come in around 3:30 remind me of The Psalters (gypsy folk band). Definitely adding this one to my favorites and checking out other material. Here's some stuff from one of my favorite genres (Funeral Doom).
-
The beginning is very exciting .. will it have a arabic tone ?
Very long intro .. Where's the excitement? … AH .. it will have this slow pace throughout the song? cool.
We have voice signal after 2:50, and 3:50, the beat became more nervous, and then go back to the feeling of sultriness.
Although this song is heavy, it is quiet, the hoarse voice that begins at 5:26 was really cool, it fit´s the song.
The solo guitar at 6:02 gives us a little trip to the imagination, for all to stay calm in 6:41, along with another solo, now the music is 100% calm.
The strength came back to 9:02, the voices talking in the background sounds like souls.
I doubt that you can relax with this song, would be easier to reflect on your life or something that is hurting you.
Sorry for the bad quality.
-
I guess, hope really, that this is some sort of irony… :P
I'm digging the "so bad it's good" it has going. Like the ms-paint sign and crotch fire. Hahaha. :) Yeah, the video is good.
The music could have been better. It's a little bit too... Annoying, in a bad way, to make the whole thing as catchy as it could have been. The annoying I hear is most likely because of the vocals, but the music could compound it. -
I was waiting for someone with more of an inspired insight than mine to review this song, but I guess classical is little daughnting for most of the people here to review. Alas, I will try. What can I say about this song? I've always found it really difficult to pinpoint the exact tone and mood of older classical piano pieces. They have so many abrupt changes from peaceful and slow to cacophonous and almost frenzied. Modern pieces are just so much easier to connect with, at least for me. They are much more straight forward. Songs like this almost feel as though they are like puzzle. You try to take all the different emotions this song has and try to make some sort of coherent message at the end. Really all old classical pieces feel kind o like this to me. For a more sophisticated minds I guess. Still really loved this song. It was beautiful and obviously the pianist was extremely skillful. Enjoyed the song.
-
Pretty weird. Not sure exactly if I like it or not yet. At first the rap-style vocals seem to not mix with the music at all, but im starting to change my mind as more instruments are added.
The singing adds a nice accent to the the song, I would've enjoyed this a lot more if it the vocals we're 100% singing and no rapping.
Still loving the instrumentals, they're definitely something I'd listen to more. Very very relaxing.
For some reason, I really really like the verse at 2:33 into the bridge at 2:50ish. Thats pretty much the only part of the whole song I actually enjoy the rapping.
The rest of the song is kind of bleh, not too bad though.
Overall I enjoyed it (if nothing else but for the instrumentals). Here's my favorite song of all time…
-
Reminded me of an 80's movie, or like..Naked Gun for some weird reason..I liked it more when the saxophone stopped for a bit.
This song really makes your head spin, the piano reminds me of clouds.
-
Man that morse code is so annoying. In a good way, I think. Makes it almost impossible to listen to the background music. It's like… ambitient music with noisey beats in it. Haha. :)
And a voice that talks about what the shit ever. A pretty great track all in all! Going straight into my playlist.
Oh, and pandaman is creeping me out. :O -
Oh man, this is a fun one. Incredibly off-beat, trippy, out of tune and out of sight. The piece is a bit short, but man does it tickle the pleasure centers of my brain. I like how it does retain melodic intent. So many experimental dudes (other bands Tzadik likes to cater to) forget the music part of music. Those guys disappoint me. This band, though, keeps it straight and bendy. Reminds me a lot of the Residents, at least in attitude. Very nice stuff.
Now for some straight up modern classics:
-
Yep, that was a real treat to listen to. The first minute kinda bugged me since I'm into the grinding "noise" style of music, if you know what I mean. The rest was pretty good though. I think it might be a good thing that I've listened to a Nirvana album before hearing this song, although it's not really grunge, but it has that same angsty dark tone to it, which I think I'm able to appreciate more. Honestly though, it's hard to explain my thoughts on this song. I liked how the singer used a soft, which I think think amplified the mood of the song. And the rest of the song is just good, really. It's got a great sound that engages the listener, but I really can't think of anything else to say about it. Good pick.
Now, I hope you'll all humor me for a moment, but I really do like this cover of the song.
-
I enjoyed it a lot. Kung Fu Fighting has always been a fun song to me, and this remix doesn't diminish that feeling at all. I could stand to not have the talking/rhyming verses if I want to nitpick, but it doesn't bug me enough to make me like the song less. My favorite part is the chorus (duh), because this is Kung Fu Fighting after all. It's pretty good overall, and totally something I could see myself listening to more in the future. Nice pick.
-
The song makes for an easy listening experience. It's a slow techno track with not-really-sung and synthesized vocals. The lyrics were to hard for me to make out so I looked it up. Still didn't get what it was about. :P Hahaha. Well there's a figurehead involved. And there are sound effects that sounds like chrashing waves and howling winds which fits nicely with that…
-
I felt like the song belonged in a Zelda game for some reason. While not my usual cup of tea, I wouldn't say that I didn't enjoy it, it was pleasant enough and I usually like to loop these sort of songs while drawing/reading, makes for a nice positive atmosphere
-
You know, I really owe it to myself to listen to a larger variety of Japanese music, since most of what I've listened to is goofy J-pop. That is, stuff from anime OPs and EDs (granted, though, I don't think all of them are goofy or stupid). This was a great piece of music. Couldn't understand the lyrics of course, but I could tell their was a lot of emotion in them. The singer's got a great voice and the instruments just flow so well, combined with an atmospheric and intense tune that gives the song a real punch. Awesome choice.
All right, let's get some classical up in here.
