RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
@RobbyBevard:
She was cameoed long before the Big Mom arc started proper, (thus set up and introduced way ahead of time) and actually is visually distinct from every other female in the series. She's the ONLY three eyed character in the series thus far.
Sure, she hasn't has a single line of dialogue yet, and we don't know her name, abilities, personality or skillset, but honestly? I actually would put her at better odds than pretty much any other female character currently seen.
There's no reason at all currently to think she'd join the crew or root for it, but from the standpoint of early intro and unique design at least, she's ahead of characters that have clearly put themselves out of the running after a chapter or two of actual screentime.
^This. Characters we know nothing about have more of a chance of joining than ones we have a lot of evidence against.
-
RE: What is the avatar above you thinking?
Darkari Used Glare!
Its not very effective!
"Dammit, who keeps saying that!"
-
RE: Chapter 727: Ambushing Heroes
If Doflamingo has as much money as I think he does, after this arc the straw hats might be really rich.
Not likely. Oda's emphasized how poor the country is (or was before at least), so I seriously doubt the SH are just going to take off with a few billion berries.
-
RE: Chapter 727: Ambushing Heroes
Really? After Bellamy shows up alive and well in the current arc, people are still trying to claim Monet's dead?
This is One Piece. Every named character is alive until proven dead. Characters can suffer injuries that would be absolutely fatal in the real world and shrug it off like it was nothing.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
Do y'all think that there is anything that Monet could do or hide to make her a viable candidate for Straw Hat next crew member? Maybe like she actually has her own secret agenda against Doflamingo or a triple agent working for a better cause?
In short…can she be redeemed?
No.
Is it so hard for people to believe that she's just evil? We have seen exactly nothing that indicates she is anything other than a loyal minion of the current arc villain. Hell the current chapter name-drop means that she was a trusted agent of DD 10 years ago. That means she has had years of proactive service including poisoning kids and infiltrating a royal palace to help frame its king for multiple murders.
Making her some sort of double agent now would be a complete ass-pull. I mean, there were plenty of times during PH where she could have helped the good guys by just not being so effective. Hell, the ENTIRE REASON Law's original plan was messed up was because she followed him to his meeting with Luffy, and then ratted him out to Ceaser and DD, let alone the fact that she was willing to BLOW HERSELF UP TO HELP DOFLAMINGO.

RE: FINAL MATCH! Jinbe vs. Noland!
But Magellan wants you to vote for Noland!
In fact so does Franky,Rayleigh,Robin,Zoro,Doflamingo apparently. Also I can't resist the allure of campaigning it seems.I may be supporting Jinbe, but damn if that isn't an impressive list of wins. If I had to pick the 16 characters most likely to win the tournament every one of those would be on it.
Even if Norland falls today, his legend will live on forever . . .

RE: What is the avatar above you thinking?
See! I knew that Darwin fella was full of shit.

RE: Chapter 726 "The Riku Family"
@HTC:
Maybe 400 years ago the Donquixote Family tried to take back Dressrosa like "Mingo" did 10 years ago and Norland helped the dwarfs to stop them: makes sense on the little info provided so far, IMO.
Its more likely that Norland cured some disease that was affecting them. He was mentioned as being the person who introduced the Dwarves to Botany, and given their relatively isolated situation, they wouldn't have been able to just get Medicine from Dressrosa.
-
RE: Chapter 726 "The Riku Family"
This does actually raise an interesting point though, which is why the first Riku king did what he did (freeing them and giving them Green Bit).
I mean, it looks like there are only a few thousand Dwarves in total. The only way a country could get as wealthy as he implied off their labor was if they were dozens of times more effective than an average man (which would make sense given how strong they are). Wouldn't it have been better to say "Hey guys, how about we pay you large amounts of money and greatly improve your working conditions, since you are so much stronger than the average human?" That way the country keeps being (slightly less) rich and the Dwarves get to have their freedom along with a homeland that would consider them incredibly valuable to have around, as opposed to one they have to hide from and steal from to survive.
-
RE: Chapter 726 "The Riku Family"
Is the king that made the pact with the dwarges different from the king that enslaved them?
The one who originally brought them to the island is the one who enslaved them (the Donquixote King). The Riku king was the one who found out about that, and let the Dwarves have Green Bit and their freedom.
-
RE: Chapter 726 "The Riku Family"
Ricky is the king, Scarlet is the king's daughter, Toy soldier is the husband of Scarlet and father of Rebecca.
I bet Toy soldier is also Kyros and because he got some much fame and admiration from the coliseum, he married the king's daughter.
Kryos being the Toy solider makes sense, bit I think its backwards (i.e. he was born as the heir). The reason he fought in the Colosseum with a mask was because he couldn't openly do it as the official heir to the throne (maybe he father would have disapproved, maybe he wanted anonymity so people would only judge him based on his fighting prowess). He retired when he got married and had a child.
When he got turned into a toy, everyone not only forgot about him but also forgot about his alter-ego as well.

RE: Foxy's Filler Tournament Final: Saitama vs. Armstrong!
Voting Armstrong. He's probably my favorite supporting character of all time, and Saitama just doesn't make me laugh as much.

RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
So the digits we are missing are 4/9??
I think its 9 and 2 (I don't remember the actual system name or the individual SH numbers. Someone who knows Japanese could tell you though)
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
Could you refresh my memory on the number theory regarding the SH df numbers?
Basically the straw hat DFs all consist of two syllables repeated (Go-Mu, Ha-Na, etc.). All 8 of those syllables line up with a Japanese number system, and so all their DFs can represent 2-digit numbers. There are 8 distinct digits between the crew so far, and the last two digits can be represented by Kuma's DF (along with some other ones, as the number system in question has multiple ways of representing each number). A "Clothes Clothes" fruit like what Kinemon seems to have also fits this pattern.
The biggest reason people think this is more than a coincidence is that when you add the numbers of the 4 current SH DFs and the fifth one, you get 325, which in that same system comes out phonetically as "Sunny-Go"

RE: SEMI-FINAL: Noland vs. Zoro
Well, now its time to see if the legendary Zoro comeback wave is going to be big enough this time.
I have to say though, I don't think anyone was expecting a Jinbe/Norland final this year.
-
RE: Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread v.2
Crazy theory? This has been mentioned the first time we saw Zoro with his eye. Also will not be the case, lots of evidence for that as well. Mostly because the primary reasons for ''Demon powers'' are the devil fruits and we saw him swimming, i.e. no devil fruit. So yeah.
His title would be "Demon Hunter Zoro". As in he hunts Demons (or Devil Fruits or whatever) but isn't one himself.
Its still not very likely, but I do agree that "Pirate hunter Zoro" is kind of a lame nickname.

RE: What is the avatar above you thinking?
Gotta time this pokeball just right . . .
-
RE: Monkey D. Garp vs. Roronoa Zoro
Lets see if Zoro's lurker fanboys can pull him ahead this time.
-
RE: Jinbe vs. Edward Newgate
Know what's funny? Even with that lead I don't feel comfortable. I call it the Rayleigh trauma.
I'm with you there. Jinbe's only up 31 votes, and big-name characters have gotten more than that in the home stretch. Jinbe's still 50 votes short of being able to relax.
-
RE: Jinbe vs. Edward Newgate
Nothing can stop Jinbe when he's avenging a comrade!
!
-
RE: Jinbe vs. Edward Newgate
Sorry Pops! Jinbe is the one character I am not voting against this year!

RE: A Hard Tournament's Night: Round 4 is a Handful
I'm partial to "Franky-stein" myself.
You could even introduce it that way.
Franky: "You know Zoro, I'm a world expert on replacing lost body parts with mechanical components. I can give you a replacement cyborg eye if you want"
Zoro: "Hmm . . .alright, but just the eye please."Later, during surgery . .
Franky: "Hmm, it'll be way more SUUUPER if i replace both eyes instead. I'm sure Zoro won't mind at all. Hmm . . . I should really install some sort of eye protection to make sure he doesn't lose these eyes as well . . . Now that I think of it, Zoro would probably love a few extra arms to hold more swords . . ."
Afterwards . . .
Rest of the crew: "WHAT HAPPENED TO ZORO!"
Franky: "I might have gotten a little carried away with the modifications" -
RE: What is the avatar above you thinking?
I remember the good old days, when Pokemon was simple. None of this "Shapeshifting" bs.

RE: Fourth Round Discussion Thread
Needs more Whitebeard and Garp and Brook
Add a Whitebeard 'stashe, Garp scar and have him doing Brook's laugh.
-
RE: Dumb Predictions
Kaido is in stadium, he's watching the tornament.
Kaido is really Gatz; he's discreetly getting information on all the rookies in the New World.
-
RE: Third Round Discussion Thread
Looks like WB avenged Ace after all.
A shame, because this year was the best Akainu's ever done.
He lost by 20 votes to Whitebeard. Has Whitebeard ever NOT gotten to the 4th round? That's still a pretty impressive achievement.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
I clicked Crystal's signature and ended up in this thread.
And it still gives off this rare vibe of stability that no other does. It's good to see years go by and Next Crewmate thread stay the same.
Their names may change, but everything else stays the same.

RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
@Vag:
why everyone think that Violet would be spoiler for SH crew adventure…?!
Until now we saw her df power:1) she can see the thoughts of others from what they thinking in the time they "interrogated" and 2) she can see 4000km around her... this power make her perfect for every crew... she can be as the guardian of ship and in the same time she can inform the crew for every situation they have to deal...
As for Rebecca i think she will be back in her throne in this kingdom and toy soldier turn back to human and be guadian for Rebecca and she will ask luffy to have this place as his new territory as it happens to fishman Island...
Sorry for my english :)Her power is perfect for every crew, its just that would make writing interesting and engaging plots waaay more difficult. I mean, if she can show up to any island and immediately scope the whole place out, the crew really can't ever be surprised by anything. If she can read minds, every goon the SH capture will have their mind read, revealing plans instantly. It becomes very difficult to justify the crew running into trouble they weren't prepared for.
If I was creating a team of 11 people to take over the grand line, she would be one of them (though ideally it would be someone with her fruit but Garp-level melee fighting skills since it doesn't seem terribly useful in combat). But Oda doesn't want to give the crew that kind of power.
-
RE: Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread v.2
This may be just wishful thinking, but I want the first place that fish/mer-folk live peacefully with humans to be Water 7. They already have a sunken city full of underwater houses and shops for people to move into. The transportation infrastructure is totally accessible to people without legs (although not having access to bubbles would be less than ideal). Iceberg, the legitimate political leader, is known to be fishman friendly and generally excellent at growing the economy of his city, which would be necessary with an infusion of new citizens. On the other side, the Franky Family who control the underworld and black market should also be fishman friendly and could theoretically protect against the slave trade.
Also, they would be extremely valuable if Iceburg wants to make the city float, since he can't build something that big in dry-dock. Someone has to fix the leaks underneath a mile-wide "ship", and being able to breathe underwater would be incredibly useful for that.

RE: One Piece 722: The Royal Bloodline
Dofla said he planned to kill law anyway…and of course he has to let law know about everything before hand buying time for someone to save him
He's a villain, explaining your plan to your defeated enemy is #3 in the handbook after "Making bad, plot-necessary decisions" and "Basics of maniacal laughter"

RE: What is the avatar above you thinking?
Wait, if I capture this thing does that mean I'm done with my Pokedex?
-
RE: Dumb Predictions
Robin's father is Dragon. The Ohara incident is what inspired him to become a revolutionary in the first place.
Hmm, that seems to plausible for this thread. Alright then, Akainu is a memory-wiped brainwashed time-traveling reincarnated Ace. And Sabo ascended to godhood during the time-skip by following his spiritual leader, the one true god, pandaman.
-
RE: Ao Onna Soul Blues vs. Princess of Smooth Jazz and Band
OMG.
I can't believe people outside of Italy know Eiffel 65. No way.
Are you kidding? This song was everywhere in 1999. I bet half the US could sing the "Da ba dee da ba die" part from memory.
Although I doubt many could actually name the band, and even less could name another one of their songs.

RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
Noland is hurt.
Incidentally, I remember reading about how there was a botanist in early designs of the crew? And that's where the Pop Green development for Usopp came from? Like the botanist element was dropped, but the plant -> fighting element came in after the timeskip.
Yeah, that design got folded into Usopp's character.
All the more reason for him to collect a healthy sample of new plants from the Dwarves after this arc is over.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
A dwarf would bring more than just being small, quick, and strong. To be a master botanist would be an extremely useful trait to any crew that could make room for a garden. I am sure it would be extremely hard to grow multiple healthy useful herbs, spices, vegetables, and other plants on a ship but a dwarf would make that more than possible.
Usopp says hello. I expect him to learn alot of plant stuff from the Dwarves by the end of the arc, but I can't imagine one joining just for that.
-
RE: Second Round Discussion Thread
You can always give ideas for filler matches. If not now they might be used next year.
I'm not sure how well it'd fit into a schedule since these characters are technically in the tournament , but I'd love to see a "One Piece Characters with no lines" match. Citizen Snips, Fred, Pwngoat, Kuzan's Penguin, etc.

RE: One Piece 721 : Rebecca and Mr. Soldier
Regarding the World Government or Doflamingo? Anyway, the latter I would simply attribute to him being a Warlord, not an allied nation.
I'm not saying they aren't allied, but consider this: First, the World Government allowed Doflamingo to essentially form coup against the Riku regime; second, per Gancho and Doffy, the history of Dressrosa and even the Riku Royal Family goes back hundreds of years.
The coup you might initially dismiss because that could be part of the deal when becoming a Warlord, but would the World Government really turn a blind eye– or even worst reward-- action against their own allies? Now, if Dressrosa wasn't an allied nation, that's another story entirely. Right? The second portion about Dressrosa's age leads us to believe that the island has a history of maintaining itself all the way back to the beginning of the Void Century. That doesn't mean it has always been independent, but the age of the Riku Royal family at the very least would merit a little more support from the World Government if they were truly allies.
I was thinking it had more to do with DD's Tennryubito connections than anything else, particularly if the Doflamingo family is actually part of their line.
Also, I don't think the WG gets involved in local politics. They could have bought DD's ruse (particularly if he has as much influence as we think he does) that he was overthrowing a corrupt and evil king and replacing him. They might have actually seen it as a positive development for the island.
-
RE: One Piece 721 : Rebecca and Mr. Soldier
Unrelated to your actual discussion, and excluding Doflamingo's status as a Warlord, is there any reason to assume Dressrosa is allied with the World Government? I mean, given the state of the New World.
Well, I would assume it is de jure just due to Doflamingo (no reason not to be I would guess). Also, no one seemed to mind the marines that showed up, and they trusted the CP0 guys, so I think so. Not 100% sure though.
EDIT: also, when Brook mentioned Wano at the start of PH, he said that the country was strong enough to resist the WG and the other pirates in the new world. I don't think Dressrosa would have been safe before DD showed up if it was independent.
-
RE: One Piece 721 : Rebecca and Mr. Soldier
But you do realize that if Dofla falls and Rebecca becomes queen, and if Luffy claims DR to be under his control, the WG won't consider DR as its country, right?
Why wouldn't it? Fishman island was still part of the WG despite Whitebeard claiming the island as his turf.
And even if we assume they wouldn't care, then Luffy just doesn't claim it. WG has no reason to deny them protection and BB still has to risk a major war to go after her.
-
RE: One Piece 721 : Rebecca and Mr. Soldier
If one of the Blackbeard come to kill her I doubt WG would be notice on time to resue her. And Wg surely won't fight a yonkou just for that.
How on earth would a Yonkou invading a WG country and killing its rightful ruler not provoke a reaction from the WG? That's pretty high up on the list of "Things Governments care about". They have to play the PR game to keep support, and ignoring what would be a brutal attack on one of their member countries would make them look incompetent.
And yes, while the WG would not get there in time to stop it, its the threat of retaliation that matters. Destabilizing Dressrosa (again) is GOING to produce a WG response, which is likely going to have major repercussions in the new world and elsewhere. Its not something you do just to get one DF.
-
RE: One Piece 721 : Rebecca and Mr. Soldier
As someone pointed out in some other thread I can't remember, giving Rebecca the Mera Mera would just mean turning her into a target for BB and his crew. Without the SH or someone strong, she'd be killed quite easily.
Well, I'm betting Dressrosa is going to get claimed by Luffy after this arc is over (and that this is going to be a pattern), which should give her enough protection. BB's after the Mera Mera cause right now its low-risk-high-reward. As far as he knows, the only thing that could go wrong is that Burgess doesn't get the fruit, and comes back empty handed.
However, attacking an entire country (that would inevitably produce a WG reaction as well as a SH one) just to get one DF is far more likely to blow up in BB's face. There has to be easier ways to get stronger DFs, and Blackbeard only need 8 or so to give to his crew. Besides, depending on how they get the DFs, they might try taking some from the beaten members of the DD family as a consolation prize.
-
RE: One Piece 721 : Rebecca and Mr. Soldier
@wolfwoof:
So after this it's a one on one match with the DD familys gladiators
Then it's a battle royale betwenn the four winners and Diamante?
Its not well defined. I hope its some sort of 4v4 with the champ winners and DD guys, since that would both be awesome to see and skip over 7 single-elimination matches that would drag out the plot.
-
RE: One Piece 721 : Rebecca and Mr. Soldier
@Buggy:
Doflamingo used his powers to control the king n force him to burn the village possibly. Loved the flashback!
It certainly looks that way, though I imagine that since his victims seem to be still aware of the control, it wouldn't work.
"Help! Something is moving my body! Help me men!"
Though I do wonder what DD can do with a corpse or comatose body (i.e. when his victim can't respond on his own)
-
RE: One Piece 721 : Rebecca and Mr. Soldier
rebecca 's past was pretty standard, but it didn't take much space so it's ok.
anyway, because of how the commentator calls her "our colosseum beautiful swordswoman",i think it is pretty much sure now that she has indeed already fought in the colosseum before, and won every fight if we count her nicknameACtually, given the line about her being "Undefeated" and that she fights without hurting anyone, could it be that she just fights defensively the entire time? Lots of dodging and blocking but not hitting back? Maybe she runs out the clock or something on her rounds every time. It would explain why she's not injured at all, despite being a regular in the tournaments.
-
RE: Chapter 720: Convict Gladiators
@Monkey:
I agree that any flashback will probably be way more comprehensive than one character.
Actually, with how its been set up, I'm expecting a multiple-teller flashback as well. Like we'll transition from the one Dwarf talking about the Doflamingo family's 900-year history to the toy soldier telling Franky about the more immediate 10-year history and Rebecca finishing with how Kryos fits into everything.
-
RE: Chapter 720: Convict Gladiators
I would certainly hope so, chapter 0 Moriah looked really cool.
I'm more curious as to why he's got Absalom running around as a journalist.Well, a man (or Gecko thing) has to eat.
I'm more confused as to how that's worked out for him. Its not like being invisible means that people with Haki can't sense you, and being that kind of reporter should mean that you're around high-level guys regularly.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
Although, Usopp DID tell that lie about a female samurai with a ton of meat…
A Beautiful Swordswoman bringing meat.
Which, oddly enough, happened this chapter with Rebecca.
-
RE: Chapter 720: Convict Gladiators
Is there anybody that would even offend? I mean, it's not like he would be any less of a biological male, assuming that's how Ivankov's hormone thing works.
This is the internet. People will decide this makes Oda a raging Homophobe or something else equally stupid and string out 10 pages of arguments.
