IIRC, when One Piece went on that 4 week break before the time skip, Jump's circulation dropped by 60,000.

I didn't even realize that was Jim Carrey until his name came up. His performance could be interesting.

RE: Terra ForMars
I also just caught up. It's been pretty damn entertaining so far. My only minor gripes are that I can't bring myself to really care about any characters since they all seem to die so quickly, and I think that it is over-narrated at times.
-
RE: Justified
That last line by Raylan was delivered kind of cheesily, but it also got me really hyped. This feels kind of like a movie. The next episodes should be really exciting.
-
RE: The "Shueisha" Thread
In the announcement for One Piece's sudden absence, they said that they didn't have time to reprint the ToC page, so One Piece is still left in even though a chapter doesn't appear in the magazine, so it seems Bleach legitimately outranked it.

RE: One Piece 701: Adventure in nation of Love, Passion, and Toys.
Busoshoku Haki protects against anything that it is strong enough to block. Swap Law out with Zoro in his face off with Vergo, and swap Law's cutting ability with Zoro's air slash. If Vergo has sufficiently strong haki, he could stop Zoro's air slash from even touching his body. It's the same thing with Law's cutting ability within his room. Vergo could theoretically block Law's "Room Slash" from even touching his body with his armor haki. It has nothing to do with negating devil fruit powers.

RE: The "Shueisha" Thread
I know there is no real way to know for sure, but I believe that the Bleach chapter ranked is 523 which features the very beginning of the Kenpachi/Unohana "fight". I think the fans think that they are going to get some epic death match, so they voted it very high. In the coming weeks, I expect the ranking to plummet, because that "fight" was awful.

RE: One Piece 701: Adventure in nation of Love, Passion, and Toys.
The way I see it, haki doesn't nullify Law's cutting ability. It just blocks it from ever touching the body in the first place.
And I agree with CCC that Law's sword is just a conduit. Obviously, he didn't eat a devil fruit and a sword popped out his butt. It's like wands in Harry Potter. You don't need a wand or a spell to do magic, but it helps you focus your magic. Law could probably cut things in his Room with his finger nail, but it is obviously way easier, more precise, and more efficient to use his sword.
On the topic of how Vergo got cut by Law even though he seemingly had full body uber-haki; I think it was a combination of factors. Obviously, one factor is Law's cutting ability within his Room. It allows him to cut even sea stone almost effortlessly. I also believe he used his own haki to "cancel out" at least some of Vergo's haki. And one factor that I think many have overlooked is that rather than cutting things from a distance with an "air slash", his blade actually made contact with Vergo's body. So the physical force and sharpness of his blade assisted in breaking through Vergo's haki(we saw with Hody biting Luffy and Luffy punching Hancock's sister that haki can be broken through with brute force). So Law's DF ability+Haki+the force of his blade=Vergo's uber-haki being bested, without Law actually having outright superior haki.

RE: One Piece 701: Adventure in nation of Love, Passion, and Toys.
@The:
What did you just say…?
He/she was confused because Japanese release dates were given, but the pirated chapters typically come out 5 days earlier due to leaked issues. The chapter that we normally get to read on Wednesday comes out in Japan on the following Monday. So the chapter that would have come out tomorrow if Oda wasn't sick would normally release on 3/18 in Japan. One Piece will be back in issue 17 that is released on 3/25 in Japan, but we will probably get to read it on 3/20.
-
RE: One Piece 701: Adventure in nation of Love, Passion, and Toys.
when i hit translator this came up:
Issue in WJ16 (released 3/18)
because of sudden illness of the author, ONE PIECE has become the hiatuses.
Everyone of you readers who are looking forward to it, very sorry.
In addition, ONE PIECE is listed in the table of contents of the issue and the postcard WJ16.
On the process of printing, the fix was not in time. I apologize once again.
More is expected from WJ17 resume issue (on sale 3/25).
Thank you enough for your support in the future to ONE PIECE.
Weekly Shonen Jump editorial departmenti think we wont get one next week. tomorrow we will
cause if not we have to wait till 3/25? that is in two weeksmaybe i read that wrong
The chapter that comes out on 3/25 is pirated on the 20th due to leaks. The chapter that comes out on 3/18, we pirates would read tomorrow.

RE: One Piece 701: Adventure in nation of Love, Passion, and Toys.
@The:
The break will probably be next week, because there was no mention of one this week in the last chapter.
Obviously, I don't want any break at all, but if there is one, prior announcement would ease the sting. But there have been unannounced breaks in the past. Kubo has had 2 in recent memory and Sorachi had one at the same time as Kubo. And IIRC, Oda had one last year. If Alexis refers to a break "next week" on the day that the chapter comes out in Japan, he is seemingly talking about next Monday's chapter(in Japan), which we scan readers get to read this Wednesday. But like I said, I'm still kind of in denial about the whole thing and I hope he is wrong or joking or something.
-
RE: One Piece 701: Adventure in nation of Love, Passion, and Toys.
@Mark:
So I heard there's no chapter this week :ninja: maybe
I actually heard that too. One of the Shonen Jump Alpha editors,
(he said this yesterday when the Alpha chapter came out, so he is referring to the chapter we should get on Wednesday).
Obviously, the Shonen Jump Alpha crew get the chapters well ahead of time so they can translate and what not, so he would know if there was an unannounced break coming up. But since nobody made a big deal about it on Twitter, and I partly didn't want to believe it myself, I didn't say anything. I hope it's just a misunderstanding.

! Barbatos was boss. It's a good thing it had that short time limit…though, was Alibaba implying that he could have stopped him even without the limit? If so, Alibaba has grown quite a bit.

RE: Funi TV Discussion (Saturday Night/Sunday Morning 1:00 a.m., USA Toonami)
I'm really glad One Piece is back on tv, but I generally don't stay up that late, so I likely won't watch(I have the DVDs anyway). At the very least, I hope this can raise awareness for One Piece in North America and perhaps help to increase sales of DVDs and manga books.

RE: Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread v.2
I think it is obvious that the Ancient Weapons will play a huge part at one point, probably at the end of the series. The Gorosei could be the group who controls them while the SHs has their 1vs fights, among other Luffy vs Akainu.
That works. Though I wouldn't mind one or two of them engaging in physical combat. Especially that swordsman.
-
RE: Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread v.2
I am not a story teller but don´t the same apply to the Tenryuubito? They probably also will be the main antagonist of a "WG arc" but nobody expects them to fight.
Actually, given the way they have been portrayed, I wouldn't be surprised if they fought back both personally and with their body guards. Charloss didn't hesitate to shoot several people and Jalmac shot Sabo just for crossing his path. Though I do expect them to be quickly curbstomped if they do resist.
The Elder Stars on the other hand, look like they have some battle experience and could be a believable threat.
You don't have to be a story teller to create a plausible scenario for what would happen with them if they didn't fight.
-
RE: Chopper's forms
In chapter 510, Franky says that the Pacifistas are "just like him" and "originally human":
And in chapter 511, Franky says that Pacifistas are "modified humans"(Viz's translation says "cyborg") and "based on humans":
That, along with the fact that they bleed, I see no reason not to believe that they were once living humans, whether they are Kuma's clones or other people modified to replicate his appearance.
-
RE: Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread v.2
I would not rule it out, though i would prefer them staying the leaders of the WG without engaging in the battles.
So what happens when the WG is inevitably overthrown toward the end of the manga? Do they just unceremoniously surrender their positions and retire? Their ideals won't allow for them to remain in the reformed government, so how would you handle them if they refrain from fighting?
–------------
I'd like to see them become combat antagonists, but I'd need for them to get at least a little more foreshadowing and development as fighters. Oda can't just have Luffy beat Akainu, only to have these guys jump down from Marijoa as the out of nowhere "last boss" as Sander's noted. -
RE: Chopper's forms
The Calm Belt is the only known way to get back into the East Blue from the first half of the Grand Line. The only other possible way would be to sail back to Twin Capes and travel over land, but I don't think that is plausible unless you think Krieg carried his ships over land.
The simple truth is that we don't know, but it is plausible that Krieg paddled through the Calm Belt and got lucky to not be killed by Sea Kings. Mihawk could easily take care of any Sea Kings if Rayleigh can swim through it. And the Marines have their seastone coated hulls to hide from the Sea Kings.

RE: Justified
Shit, i should not have looked into this thread. I am 2 episodes behind^^
Sorry. Though it's not as if I revealed Drew Thompson's identity. Just that there was a reveal in general. You should still be sufficiently surprised.
-
RE: Psych
(Shaun walking in on his dad and mom was priceless)
Yeah, that was hilarious(I'm so glad that has never happened to me….).
-
RE: Justified
Agree, I didn't saw the Drew Thrompson reveal coming as well. I'm really enjoying how Boyd being funny and awesome the last few episodes.
! I did feel sad a little bit how the Arlo stuff went and I'm interest how Raylean is going to be developed from this.
! I was pretty shocked about Arlo's death as well. Caught me off guard. At least we went out fighting like a badass.
! You're right. It will be interesting to see how Arlo's death affects Raylan in the long run. He is trying to act like he doesn't care, but he did seem to shed a tear in the elevator. Even though he didn't have a good relationship with Arlo, I'm surprised he didn't take revenge. I guess the case was more important. -
RE: The Great New World Discussion Thread
I'm betting that no matter the quality, the Wano arc will at least partially suffer from being set up too far in advance like Fishman Island was. People were waiting so long for Fishman Island that it just didn't live up to the years of expectations. It probably won't be the same 5(?) years like it was when they said that Fishman Island was their next destination after Thriller Bark, but I can see it easily taking two more years to get to that arc. People are already making lists of things they want to see there and fanficcing in their heads about how they want the arc done.
It's great that Oda is awesome at foreshadowing and setting up future events, but it can and has worked against him. That's not to say that Fishman Island doesn't have legit flaws(my only real problem was the structure of the fights). But along with the post Marineford slow down in pace/excitement, Fishman Island was mostly a victim of hype IMO.
Personally, I find that Punk Hazard is inferior to Fishman Island. Punk Hazard is an overly long set-up arc(for Dressrosa) and at only 5 chapters less than FI, it didn't accomplish enough. I think most people rave over PH because they are blinded by Law being cool and what not.
As a stand alone arc, Punk Hazard doesn't compare to Fishman Island. That being said, I really appreciate set-up and I think it will really compliment the Dressrosa Arc and other future arcs. Although, Fishman Island has potential to be a lot more important to the overall story than it currently appears. I don't think it is fully over yet. I think Madame Sharley's premonition will still come true in some form or another, Noah and Poseidon will likely be put to use, Fishman Island as a kingdom will likely be allies to the Straw Hats in the final war, and the Big Mam arc was also set-up. It's just that Punk Hazard's set-up is more relevant sooner and more straight forward.
If only Punk Hazard wasn't so long(for how little it accomplished), accomplished more(like characterization for Law), or didn't have so much blatant waste of space/time(Yeti Cool Brothers, Smiley chasing, shinokuni fail…). If it was more like Jaya was to Skypiea, and didn't even feel like a stand alone arc, then I wouldn't have as much of a problem with it.

RE: The Viz Media Thread
Not that it really affects my enjoyment of the book or anything, but this doesn't inspire confidence in their quality control. And it's not as if they didn't have like 10 months to get everything right.
-
RE: The Viz Media Thread
Ha, I just noticed that all of Vol. 66's title pages read ''Chaper'' instead of ''Chapter''.
WTH, that's in my copy too. Is that on purpose, or did they forget to do spell check?

RE: Nardo and Bleh Thread III: Naruto is a terrible terrible manga
Isshin was never a human to begin with, he was born in SS since he's royalty.
But aren't all the beings in SS made up of souls that came from the human world? My memory is shaky on this, but I thought that when you die in the human world, you go to Soul Society and are "reborn" as a person there.
If souls are just born out of nowhere in Soul Society, then wouldn't that throw off the balance between SS and the human world? Or is it that for every new soul completely originating from SS, another soul is reincarnated to the human world?
-
RE: Toriko II: Ichiryuu's Slimy Insides!!
This chapter has me hyped. A spot of characterization for Sani is great. Perhaps I will eventually end up caring about and liking the Heavenly Kings after all(though this chapter served that purpose more for Ichiryuu than Sani…). And Tommyrod is pretty much the reason I started liking this manga. I love his design and demeanor. Glad to have him back in all his glory.
But damn, Sani's "Satan's Hair" ability is beyond overpowered. Still kind of awesome though.
-
RE: Nardo and Bleh Thread III: Naruto is a terrible terrible manga
Bleach: Starts with Rock Star Midget saying he knew Ichigo wouldn't pass and that he must "find his soul"…..uhh, okay? If he knew he was going to fail, why didn't he let him take the damn test in the first place? Second, again.....how did one man create asauchis for thousands of up and coming Shinigami?
Whatever. Next we head into the past to where Isshin was a Captain of the 10th Division! And a Shiba to boot! Man…..all the Bleach theorists must be jumping up and down (read: yes I totally called him leading the 10th!)
He and Rangiku seemed to have an amusing relationship, Hitsugaya is 3rd seat, Isshin leaves his post to address a crisis....blah, blah.....and....oh great, we jump to Gin, Tousen, and....him. Obviously this flashback is after Turn Back the Pendulum but before present day, but exactly where? There's decades in between.
I thought it was a….good chapter overall, although a) ending a chapter with a smirking Aizen panel is NEVER a good thing and b) Glib just raised some very good points with the problem of Isshin becoming who he is.....
Naruto: Screw it, I liked the chapter.
We all know that involving children in the dangerous world of shinobi warfare is a bad thing, and both Madara and Hashirama rejecting the idea is the counter to it. That's what makes them become friends…..(really Kishi, another piss joke?)
Of course all the buddy-buddy stuff is ruined when Hashirama's father tells his son Madara is part of the Uchiha and he must be spied on. Apparently Madara was told to do the same.
They both warn each other with their rock messages, escape....then two Senju come to battle two Uchiha. I assume learning that Madara is much more involved with the shinobi world (he's killed) will put a wedge in his friendship with Hashirama.....or something like that. Maybe Kishi shouldn't have led with their Godzilla battle as adults.
The worst part about Isshin's situation for me is that there seems to be no consequences to death in the Bleach universe. Isshin was once a human–->died and became a shinigami and got to have super powers---->then got to live a second life as a human complete with a family--->and now has his super powers back again....

RE: One Piece 701: Adventure in nation of Love, Passion, and Toys.
I think Bepo drew that crappy map. It had what appears to be a paw print on it, perhaps in blood or ink. Maybe he infiltrated Dressrosa and had to blend in with the toy people as a teddy bear.
-
RE: One Piece 700 : His Pace
On the topic of Law arranging things so that Fujitora runs into Doflamingo; I'm not so sure Oda would write himself into a situation like that. I mean, he isn't going to introduce a new admiral, only to have him get defeated right away. And he also isn't going to have Doflamingo, an antagonist that's been hyped since right after Skypiea, get trashed by a side character just like that. If they do meet up, it will just end up being another situation like Kuzan and DD that we just had, which would be repetitive.
-
RE: General Fitness Thread
Need some diagrams or something on proper form for the overhead press. I'm real worried I'm fudging up my back doing them.
Here are some instructional videos that I found helpful.
-
RE: One Piece 700 : His Pace
Also i still really wonder why it is so hard to get to Raftel. yes there are really strong people you have to face when sailing over the new world but one of those strong influential people could have gone for it already. there must be a good reason why it is so hard to reach.
Besides the Yonkou stalemating each other, there could be any number of reasons why Raftel is so hard to find/get to. Knowing the One Piece world as we do, I'm sure navigation has something to do with it. Much like Punk Hazard, perhaps Raftel has no magnetic field and can't be found with a log pose. Or maybe the island itself moves. Weather may also play a big role in concealing it. Impossibly big hurricanes and waves and other such obstacles probably toss anyone but the most worthy back. Or some mirage type phenomenon may render the island invisible. Heck, it could even be a sky island or underwater for all we know. A combination of all these things perhaps.
-
RE: One Piece 700 : His Pace
I think the biggest danger of the Grand Line is the navigation and travel. While there is islands of normal people even in the New World, those normal people are isolated on their islands because they can't manage to overcome the dangers of travel. That's why the sea train was such a big deal. So I think 99% of the citizens of East Blue wouldn't even make to to the Grand Line, let alone survive a few days travel in it. Get passed the weather and sea monsters, and you probably get robbed and killed by bounty hunters on Whiskey Peak. Get passed Whiskey Peak, and you'll likely get eaten by dinosaurs or get a disease on Little Garden. Maybe, if your lucky, you make it to Drum and cut your losses. And that's if you don't cross any pirates. So in a way, the East Bluers who fear the Grand Line as a graveyard a right.
I hope people don't think the New World is just going to be full of strong pirates. There is normal people there too, like the families of the kidnapped children on that island in G-5's jurisdiction.
-
RE: One Piece 700 : His Pace
Okay now this whole Schichibukai thing is getting confusing. So basically Bennam said that a warlord is allowed to do anything as long as when the WG needs them they report for duty. If this is true then why did they arrest Crocodile for trying to take over a country because am assuming the whole"do whatever they want' would involve plunder, rape and murder which means that whatever Law they broke would not be punished by the Government.
But how exactly does this system work, the public seems to be aware of this arrangement and they seem to be ok with their government giving pirates a free pass to do anything, meaning should a schichibukai kill your kid or whatever you won't go to the marines because they basically have immunity. If anyone else understands how this works I would love to know because right now it sin't making much sense to me.
I don't think Shichibukai can do whatever they want. Crocodile was trying to obtain an Ancient Weapon(something directly linked to the forbidden Void Century), and was publicly defeated by a rookie pirate, bringing down the credibility of the Shichibukai. Of course they arrested him for that.
It's okay if Shichibukai engage in piracy, but of course within reason.
-
RE: One Piece 700 : His Pace
I don't think Luffy would care about the devil fruit itself, but I think that Doflamingo could use it in a way that disrespects Ace's legacy and pisses Luffy off. Also, how Doflamingo obtained the fruit could make a difference. Perhaps he desicrated Ace's corpse to get it? I think that would be enough to grab Luffy's attention.
-
RE: One Piece 700 : His Pace
Luffy getting the intangibility of a logia would totally ruin the awesomeness of his stretchy rubber powers.
-
RE: General Fitness Thread
I used to strength train with barbells 3 times a week until I hurt my back this past Fall. Took 4 months off to recover and now I am just slowly getting back into the swing of things with light deadlifts. If things go well, I plan to be doing my full routine before Summer starts. My normal workout is like this:
Monday- squats 3x5, bench press 3x5, barbell rows 3x5(workout A)
Tuesday- rest
Wednesday- squat 3x5, dead lift 1x5, overhead press 3x5, chin-ups, 3 sets to failure(workout B)
Thursday- rest
Friday- squats 3x5, bench press 3x5, barbell rows 3x5
Saturday- rest
Sunday- restThen I start again on Monday with workout B.
I absolutely hate cardio, but I do have an indoor rowing machine that I use inconsistently after my strength training workouts. I really need to start using it consistently soon. If only to get my money's worth for it….

RE: One Piece 699: The Morning News
Though there may be many parallels, I think it is important to understand that things don't have to stay that way. Smoker doesn't have to continue mindlessly chasing Luffy for the sake of continuing the parallels. It would be really great for his character if Oda would make Smoker come to his senses now and realize that Luffy is the wrong one to be chasing and that their are real bad guys out there…and not all of them are pirates...
-
RE: Chopper's forms
Just thought about this today… but... how come the WG doesn't have ships stationed at each entrance of Reverse Mountain shooting down anyone waving a pirate flag?
Directly at the entrance? Well, we can only speak for East Blue since we didn't see the rest, but you saw what the weather and current were like for the East Blue entrance. You can't exactly park there and wait. Though I'm sure that just like at Loguetown where Smoker took out any pirates preparing to depart for the Grand Line, the other seas have an island nearest to their respective Reverse Mountain entrances that the Marines have posts at.
-
RE: One Piece 699: The Morning News
CoC with Strings kind of takes away of the specialness of the devil fruit. I think we need to give the fruit's more credit. Haki is taking too much of the shine as of late.
I think it's the fans that are doing that by trying to make every unexplained thing be covered under the blanket of haki.
-
RE: Volume 69 Predictions
@nodensuke:
I don't see what all the fuss is about, I think it's an awesome cover.
Aside from that really awkward molester Chopper, of course..It's definitely crowded but why is that bad?
Also, Oda does not need graphic design tips.
I agree. For me, the more exciting, colorful and dynamic, the better.
The only real fault I would give it is that it doesn't feature Vergo or CC, but that's not a deal breaker. And as some have mentioned, that may be on purpose to have the next cover be all villains.
The only reason the crowdedness detracts from it for me is because I barely notices Law's slash effect on the logo, which I think it is a really interesting and creative touch.

RE: The "Worst Generation / Supernova Discussion Thread
Noo you said within Manga time. Read your post on the second paragraph last sentence.
"And I believe this will all occur within a year in manga time."
"I specifically stated that the 1 year would be in story time and that it will be much longer for us readers." I'm not seeing the discrepancy here. In-manga time is the same as in-story time. The amount of time passes in the story, as opposed to the amount of time that passes for us readers in the real world.
To be clear, I believe that no more than 1 year will pass in the One Piece Universe during the Straw Hat's conquest of the New World, just like it took less than 1 year for them to sail the first half of the Grand Line(Luffy was 17 when he started and didn't have a birthday until the time skip). For us readers, 10 or more years will likely pass, just like it took almost 15 years for the first half of the One Piece story to be told. You responded with "So what's going to happen the other 9 years?", as if you think Luffy will be 28 by the time he becomes Pirate King. I simply don't believe Oda will change the pace of the story so drastically between the first and second half. Assuming the time skip was about half way, having less than one year pass in story over the course of 589 chapters, and then having 9 years pass in story over the next 600 or so chapters would be an unbelievable change in pace, and seeing as how no more than 2 days have passes since the time skip, it doesn't seem Oda has changed from his original pace.
So for everyone that thinks it is so unbelievable, absurd and farfetched that Luffy and his crew will be beating Yonkous in the near future(in story time), then I think you are in for a rude awakening, because it's likely going to happen.

RE: General Fitness Thread
I tried staying under 1200 because I wasn't able to get out and move around as much til recently. I figured if I wasn't being active I should eat less?
That depends just how "less active" you are being. Does that mean you are largely sedentary sitting on the couch for 12 hours a day watching tv? Or do you have a job or go to school and do the normal amount of walking around and moving? Either way, your base metabolic rate is probably more than 1200 calories, and eating that little you risk not taking in the proper level of nutrition. Anyway, now that you are able to be active again, I think that any nutritionist or trainer would advise you to increase your calories a little bit and make sure you are getting the proper amount of nutrients.
What's isometrics?
Isometrics are like static hold exercises where you contract your muscles and hold them for a period of time. Like going down into a squat and holding the parallel position for as long as possible. I just mentioned them in case you didn't have access to any sort of fitness equipment like stretch bands or weights. Body weight exercises are also a good form of resistance training if you don't have any equipment. Chin-ups, push-ups, body weight squats and lunges would hit most of the major muscle groups.
-
RE: General Fitness Thread
I need good tips and information for how to get results as a woman. I want to have muscle tone but I'm also worried about losing boob size if I lose weight. (weird complaint, I know).
So far playing tennis twice a week and trying to stay under 1200 calories is my only diet plan..
Your breast size after reaching your goal body fat percentage will probably depend on your natural breast size. For instance, if you are naturally big breasted no matter your body weight, they will likely still be there for the most part even after losing weight. If your breasts increased in size because you put on a lot of body fat, then you will likely lose breast size from lowering your body fat percentage. There's no way to "spot treat" areas of body fat. No way to burn fat from some areas of the body, while leaving it alone on others(the breasts). So by losing weight, even if you are naturally big breasted, they will probably shrink at least a little bit.
Also, 1200 calories is probably too little. Eating too little can actually be counterproductive. I would try between 1500 and 2000.
Playing tennis twice a week is a good start. Adding some resistance training for another 2 days a week would help. Stretch bands, yoga, pilates, free weights, isometrics. Make sure to make room for recovery time.

I'm calling shenanigans. A lot of that stuff are things Oda wouldn't just reveal in a fan letter. And unless I'm going crazy, I'm certain this letter has been brought up several times over the past few years and shot down as a fake. I can't be the only one that remembers this.
