Maybe Magellan will succumb to internal injuries from his fights, and Bon Clay will escape. VOMIT :getlost:
I have given up on getting worked up over character 'deaths.' Pell was the ultimate middle-finger by Oda to his readers. After that, I just didn't care anymore. I accept it as part of the story. Initially, I was miffed by Going Merry sailing on its own (why the fuck do we even have a Navigator or Log Poses???). About three or four chapters later, I completely forgot about that stupid boat (I was happy when it burned to the bottom of the ocean) and kept reading the manga. Oda has a way of making us forget his most egregious errors or annoying plot holes. At times, I feel like he's about totally lose me. And then, somehow, he sucks me back into this epic.
Also, to some degree, I agree with LongFist. When I watch the anime, I actually feel a sense of suspense.
Is Magellan like the strongest character ever?
FF Ace "projectile-firing-ability:"
I'm using the anime (episode 325) as reference, even though, I know manga > anime for canon purposes.
For shooting fire, I think these concepts make sense.
1. Ace "creates" fire from this body.
2. He forms "created fire" into an e.g. lance.
3. To "shoot" fire, he uses momentum / force / the physics we use to rear back and throw an object and detaches himself from his created object, which then becomes a projectile.
*See 19.30 minute mark in anime with the flame lance move.
Or …
1. Ace "creates" fire from this body.
2. He forms "created fire" into an e.g. lance.
3. To "shoot" fire, he projects the lance (which is an extension of his fire body) to his opponent using only a very thin almost invisible / transparent connection (i.e. like a fishing line). The extension moves along or with the extension to hit desired target.
*See the 20 minute mark for the "crossfire" projectile move.
I really don't see any other explanations.
About the Kuro Vs. Luffy comments, wouldn't Kuro's Soru-like speed be less speedy than CP9's because he's just plain weaker? Also, Luffy was able to match Blueno's speed without Gears.
About the Yonkou's strength …
According to Garp, the Shichibukai and Marines have to keep them in check.
In the current arc, all of the Admirals and Shichibukai have been called upon to fight JUST Whitebeard.
I think the Four Yonkou together at least equal the Shichibukai plus Marine Admirals. I don't see any other "facts" that imply otherwise.
From what Moria said, we can assume the second half of the Grandline is way more brutal than the first. Garp stated the Yonkou are the rulers of that area. It seems like the Marines and Shichibukai are concentrated in the first half of GL, which seems to be less dangerous. If Whitebeard is defeated, then maybe the Marines + Shi > Three Yonkous.
IMO Raleygh and even BlackBeard made it clear that true strength isn't gained through the DFs, but with other kinds of techniques. (Well, BlackBeard's strength is mostly based on his logia powers, so the above statement may seem odd, but what I meant was that to beat him you need a lot more than just the power of a DF, whatever its type). There are some kind of powers which may be useful to some of the strawhats though, for example a zoom ability for Usopp.
Blackbeard gave Shanks THE scar on his face. He was already strong before eating his fruit.
I think the chances of any one of them getting a DF is almost zero, but I would like to see Luffy get a second one through some special operation by Vegapunk. That would be interesting to me.
I think one reason Oda separated the crew out to show more of the OP world. Otherwise, he would have had to drag the whole crew to a lot of different islands. Now, each crew member can have a mini-adventure and give us a taste of some more wacky places.
@123:
Just because the winner of the arena fight wins doesnt means he is the stongest.
Lets say for example in real life sports. The stronger team will also at times lose to the weaker teams.
In a fight the strongest doesnt neccesary win, wits, luck and other stuff counts
We would need a larger sample size than one bout, so you're right.
Sanji could cook them nutritious meals, and Chopper could treat their wounds. Then, we could send them back out again to beat the shit out of each other.
"SUPER!" :)
I always appreciate "interesting" drawings of manga women :)
The Mugiwara crew is mostly a sausage party, so let's see if Oda adds another female character.
Well it defiantly doesn't seem that there on the same level, i think in ranking of strength it goes like
–-Strongest---
Blackbeard
Dracule "Hawk-Eye" Mihawk
Donquixote Doflamingo
Bartholomew Kuma
Gecko Moria
Sir crocodile
---Weakest---and I don't know anything about the other two besides Jinbei's name and the fact that he's a fishman
I usually don't bother with these threads, but I like the ranking in this post. If Mihawk and BB are two of the final villains (there have been tons of hints pointing to this), then they will definitely be the strongest. There have been some hints that Doflamingo is above (or perhaps on the same level as) Kuma. Moria and Crocodile have already shown they are both inferior. Jinbei will probably be slotted behind Kuma, but there is no evidence to point to this.
After the latest ass-whooping, a lot of people are defending Kuma's strength, but I think we have already seen (or it has been implied) at least a dozen or so characters that could take him one on one. I think a lot of people are smitten over his power only because it's the latest one we've seen. Later on, I'm sure a lot of people will be like "OMGSH WTF DoFlamingo iS a FUCkinG BEAsT. HOLY SHIIIIIIT HE CAN TAKE ON WHITEBEARD BY HIMSELF!!!"
No Monday morning spoilers. Oh well.
I don't think Luffy and Kuma will fight. Kuma will probably fight Zoro or Franky.
If Luffy fought Kuma, then Luffy would definitely win.
Is it possible for Dr. Vegapunk to be Tom (Franky's Tom), or does the timeline not dictate this possibility?
I honestly can't be sure this is even plausible because I'm not well-versed enough about the mythology to be able to make such a huge claim. It's only a thought.
I hope Oda reveals a lot of Kuma's past later on because his character is awkward. He serves the govt. as its ultimate weapon, but makes his own decisions. Is it possible he was never human, but was a robot (not a cyborg since he has no human biological components) used to commit cruel acts of piracy for the purpose of being placed among the Shichibukai? I think Oda didn't explain a lot on purpose, so he doesn't write himself into a corner.
@Lobster:
I bet he got that bounty from doing nothing bad at all. He's just that strong.
That theory is kind of debunked.
He was supposedly a tyrant before becoming Shichibukai, so he was probably extremely cruel. Thus, I don't think Kuma's bounty is just because of his strength.
I didn't see an emoticon in your post. I'm guessing you were being serious. Sarcasm is hard to pass off without some other verbal clues (if that was what you were doing).
So far, the best theory is extreme pushing powers. He seems to be compressing air "atoms" together to make the Ursa Shock.
Or he could sink, die and the shadows would never be returned. He said himself that even if Luffy beat (killed?) him, the shadows would not return unless he released them. If he was telling the truth and was saying that if he died it wouldn't work, then the shadows wouldn't be released. If death doesn't nullify his powers, I doubt water would.
If the sea is not able to nullify his powers, then do you think BB could make him return the shadows back? I would think so. Moria being killed and being exposed to the sea are not the same. This is a good SBS question.
If Moria is knocked out, then the Rolling Pirates can throw him into the sea. Either two things can happen: Moria begs for his life and releases the shadows, and The Rolling Pirates remove him from the water, or Moria's powers will be nullified by the sea. Either way, the shadows would be set free. It's possible the shadows are already free, but there is no evidence to support this theory. Two weeks is a long time to wait for a conclusion.
Great ending!
Moria cannot beat Luffy on his own. His ultimate powerup and trump card was using Odz plus his own power. Simply, NL leveled the playing field. Game over. I can't wait to see this animated.
After the shadows are gone, I think he will learn a way to push himself past his limits (again), but it won't be evident for a long time.
The full chapter was much better than the spoilers.
If Brooke joins, then Franky should reinforce him with steel. He breaks too easily.
Here's hoping Odz is beaten soon, and the real final fight starts up.
Maybe Moria is using his own shadow as an extension of Oz to make it appear he is stretching when he really is not.
Looks like the spoiler described the whole story. Hopefully, we get some real plot movement next week.
I think rubber is top tier because it is both literally and figuratively "flexible."
It's power is flexible to deal with any situation or devil fruit user type. He can "stretch" his powers to new heights (Gears).
Also, I don't know why Moria's power is top tier. We don't even know the extent of his abilities.
I don't understand why Smoker isn't top tier. We haven't seen anyone beat him, and the only reason his rank is lower than other characters is because he's an insubordinate bitch.
Nevertheless, he didn't become his element. This can only be because of two things.
1. He hasn't completely mastered his Logia to the extent of people like Enel and Crocodile.
or
2. Ace's fire attacks do harm Blackbeard.
In my opinion, it can be either one of the two, or both of them.
Or he allowed himself to get hurt because he doesn't care.
Initially, I don't like this Darkness DF. I think it cheapens Blackbeard's character and certainly didn't expect this from Oda. I guess Oda is setting up to be the last villain because I don't see any DF that can easily beat Darkness.
Whatever, I hope this works out. The flashbacks were great.
What's brave? How you measure it? How you live by that? (Reminds me of Hajime no Ippo "What is strengh?" motto). It's tough for some weak, coward, insecure pal to became brave and even recognize it. What Ussop needs to do to became a brave warrior? That is what I think is harder to tell. It's not an objective goal, its a way of life![]s[/quote]
Like spotting a three-legged dog, I know bravery when I see it.
I think everyone here read about Luffy destroying the steel door with Gear 3 and punching into a spiked cape that Krieg put up as a defensive shield.
Luffy p0wns Daz Bones, case closed.
Excellent chapter, as I knew it would be. Filler, yes, but still tasty.
Incoming troll bait.
Wha?!? Where's Usopp?? :wassat:
Is he on the boat? He's my eighth favourite Mugiwara…I don't know what I'd do if he was left behind!!
He's my 10th or 11th favorite (which means I put any possible new crew members ahead of him without knowing who they are).
I believe Ussop will help keep the marine ship at bay with his Kabuto skills and then hop aboard some how OR he will use the ships cannons to help them escape.
At least I'm on the first page for once. Thanks for the chapter.
I'm surprised this is not addressed in SBS because it seems to come up a lot here. I'm too lazy to dig up my post on this same issue, so I'll just stay quiet.
@Fire Fist:
Yasopp and Beckman?

2nd row, first panel.
Does look awfully like them
I guess we'll find out later.
It's already been mentioned, but I think Zoro's sensei is at least pre-Alabasta (sp.) level. Any other conclusions is just pure speculation.
I hope this isn't considered posting something about spoilers outside of the spoiler thread but, the Whitebeard logo is indeed now what it is in the anime.
Unfortunately, there isn't a spoiler thread yet, and the spoilers are up on other forums. Hopefully, BF or someone else already dropped a msg in a mod's inbox.
I've always like the anime version better, yet I have three points to note:
1. Oda is getting influenced by Shueisha, which is very sad.
2. Japan is getting influenced by Facist America, which is even more sad.
3. [Insert VIZ Media bashing here]
Emphasis on #2…
I feel like One Piece could practically go on forever if Oda so chooses.
I believe when Oda first started One Piece, he had other aspirations. He probably wanted to finish the story and work on something else. One Piece gained in popularity, and Oda began to change the length of the story. Most likely, many of the ideas he had saved for other mangas he was thinking of writing have been or will be incorporated in One Piece. Basically, I believe he is putting together a body of work that encompasses all his creativity. He has created a very flexible universe for him to do practically anything (for instance cyborgs like Franky). It would be hard for him to come up with a new manga that would live up to One Piece. I believe his incorporation of ideas he may have had for other mangas keeps him fresh to continue drawing and writing One Piece.
If all of the above is true, then I can see the series hitting a 1000 chapters easily. Also, he may be concerned about his legacy. Perhaps he wants to write a story that will literally be talked about decade(s) after it is finished kind of like DBZ.
Mangahelpers has a script up, but I don't know if it's the full one.
Garp said his son (Dragon) told him he met Luffy in Roguetown. Hmm…That means that he and Dragon met up some where in between. That may also shed light on Garp; given the opportunity to take down (presumably) the most wanted man in the world and chosing not to means he probably has very little taste for "absolute justice". Maybe that's why he isn't Admiral.
Not necessarily, if Smoker spoke with Garp, then Garp would know about Loguetown.
Yes, another groundbreaking chapter. Good stuff.
Now, the four emperors, I'm bothered by that "fouth" one on the bottom on the third "unseen" emperor. He looks like "The Penguin." Also, I wonder how they all measure up to each other? From experience I'd imagine that Shanks and Whitebeard are the tops, but who knows….
As for their crews, I think they may have something to do with their status. Of course each of them is strong, probably the strongest in One Piece, but could one "live like an emperor" alone? With his crew, Shanks would probably be just like Mihawk--but with more beer and less arms to drink it with. Also, I'm suspicious to how Mihawk measure's up to these emperors--his relation with Shanks gives me the impression that he's in their league, despite all signs pointing to the shichibukai (as a whole) being weaker.
Of course, we'll know when we "get there." And how does Dragon fit into this heriarchy of the strongest of the Grandline?
Great chapter. I look forward to the future.
I agree with everything you said. I'm thinking that MiHawk is probably the strongest of the Shichibukai (which would make sense, since this is Zoro's last target) and with a crew, he would be as strong as the four emperors.
What I am having trouble speculating is who they face next? I would think either one of the Admirals or Shichibukai. Some clues point to Merman Island. I hate how Oda makes us wait
Where is the "how come [they] are so overrated thread?"
It's unfathomable either one can take on any single Strawhat (including Ussop and Nami) considering the strength increases all of them have been building since the beginning of their adventure.
I'm sure Coby and Helm. have not been through the types of Hell that the Mugiwaras have trudged through.
This is all speculation anyways. I'm sure we will see a lot more in the next couple of chapters. I just feel that unless Oda pulls Devil Fruits or some other kind of weird training like Rokushiki (sp.), then there is no way for the two pupils to compete at this time.
Maybe, but as long as we can agree to this:
Whitebeard>Admirals>Shichibukai> VAs.
I think this should be amended a bit…
Whitebeard > (Admirals||Shichibukai) & Admirals + high-powered (VAs or Captains) == Shichibukai & Shichibukai > Admirals
Pirates are the strongest people in the world, hence why we have the Age of Piracy.
The marines can keep most of them under control by the combined power of the Admirals AND the strongest VAs & Captains. No group can actually overpower the other.
Whitebeard does not seem concerned with either group.
Dragon and Shanks are up for debate because we haven't seen much of either of them. I believe they are at least Admiral / Shichibukai level (which is mostly speculation), but there is some evidence that the government sees both of them as serious threats. If they were so easy to dispatch and given their threat level, then I believe the government would have killed or incapicitated them by now. Given this information, I am drawing a conclusion that Dragon and Shanks are indeed as powerful as the Shichibukai.
All this can be crap though because it depends what Oda does with the story
On another note, I'm really excited to see the next chapter. Regardless of flaws in Oda's work, he is a master at leaving the reader at a cliffhanger / desire more.
Problem is, and we probably repeated it hundreds of times already, the only timeline we have is based on official data. Things that have been said in the manga. Those who don't agree with and try to contradict it have nothing but speculation to oppose, like "yeah but it could have taken longer…". So basically, don't try to pass mere wishful thinking as proofs.
I agree with this completely. We just have no other information on whether Oda accelerated an "x amount" of time between arcs; unless, he tells us directly. :cheerful:
I believe it is possible they spent several days or even weeks in between islands at sea that may not have been explicitly stated, but there is not a whole lot of evidence to tell us precisely how much time may or may not have passed. It is merely speculation on my own part and a possibly false belief that it takes a while to go from one island to another. :wassat:
Albeit, if Merry can get repaired, cross Aqua Laguna from W7 and save the Mugiwaras at EL in approximately 45-60 minutes, then maybe it doesn't take very long for them to travel to islands.
It's really hard to say how much time has passed because we only get to see the "arc time." We do not get to see any "hidden time" that Oda may have accelerated from arc to arc. I really don't have an opinion on the matter, but I think it is up for debate. I believe this topic has already been discussed several times.
Ao Kiji will be the new crewmate. If he's not, I'll eat my hat!
That's still part of the shounen logic bit, though; when characters more angry, they apparently have a huge increase in power. In the real world, that's not true; people who play mad play dumb and are more prone to screwing up.
I don't know if I completely agree with this. Not all people make stupid mistakes when they get angry. It depends on the person and the circumstances. I would type a much more elaborate post, but I'm at work
He doesn't use his best attack because he needs to wear his opponents down (or find their weakness), otherwise the attack may fail. If that happened, where would that leave him?
I didn't cry or get sad, but I was satisfied with the resolution. Even with the voice and everything, I always felt it was an inanimate object. There wasn't enough build up for me to care about it.
