HAH! Retard.
My problem with this?
Drawing attention to it makes it seem like a Nintendo exec. never said anything fucking stupid.
Personally I loved hearing the fat guy who spoke at E3. He sounded like such a scumbag.
Honestly this is why I hate Sony with a passion, they always try to make themselves look as the good guy. There is no such thing as good and evil in business or politics, only shades of grey.
Sony wants people to just buy their console and nothing else, without thinking about the backlash that it would cause the gaming world to have. Look at Xbox and Nintendo; they are trying to improve the gaming world by using new technology without forcing it upon people automatically. Xbox live was a groundbreaking idea since it was the first TRUE stable online network, Yes Dreamcast had it’s own version but a lot of problems were in the network, plus dial-up was involved. Nintendo wants to make people who are not gamers to play with the Nintendo Wii and see games in a new way. I’m even going to let me father try out the Nintendo Wii when I purchase one just to show him that “interactive entertainment” is not just for children.
Sony is just slowly killing itself and I for one say Nah Nah Nah Nah, Hey Hey Hey, Good bye.
Plus what educated person would really want to purchase a six hundred dollar console with almost no good launch titles? If I wanted a paper weight I could just use a few of my pointless college textbooks.

Sony's helping cure cancer. Take that Jack Thompson (we know he's gonna try something), But seriously that's pretty cool. Can't wait till DMC4 & MGS4 hit, It'll be my dream come true. Not to mention the inevitable GOW3.

I agree with what you're getting at (about claiming the others never said anything). Still, that has got to be one of the most idiotic statements I've heard in awhile.
So he wants his car to fly and make him breakfast? Pft. At least mine can drive.
Not sure if I actually meant anything by that, but it felt fun to say. =DPlus what educated person would really want to purchase a six hundred dollar console with almost no good launch titles?
Half the people in my town, apparently (there's something to be said about this, but would sound a tad bit racist if I did, so I'll refrain…).
-
But who say's they're educated? (electronic's wise, not in general just so nobody jumps down my throut)
i mean, A majority of Sony fanboy's are Actually waiting
(by majority i mean, Those whom i currently know, and by observing several site polls, yeah i know not concrete D:)Half of the people in the lines over here (most of the back) were just their to re-sell em…
The rest just seemed really really casual
Edit:Yes this post is stupid, really stupid, im way to tired for this D: WAKE ME UP WHEN I CAN THINK LOGICALLY

This is obviously the post of a highly educated individual. They obviously thought about what they wanted to write and did so in a mature, appropriate and informed manner.
They have an excellent sense of not only how business works, but what's realistic. Not to mention having a shockingly strong grip on reality.
But what they said about a sane person not wanting a launch PS3 was completely uncalled for.

I'm getting mine when MGS4 is out
:Deither that or when it starts getting a little more interesting to me
maybe in aprili start working then

I don't even want to look at one until MGS4 is out.

Well, either that or that Knight Something-or-Other Story.
Because that looks disgustingly solid.

Like I said, whichever comes out first, DMC4 or MGS4, that's when I grab me a PS3.
-
I don't even want to look at one until MGS4 is out.
MGS4 is probably the only reason I want a PS3.
The problems I have with it right now are
1. Too expensive for me
2. The first-run PS3's are probably going to have problems or break after a while anyway. That's what happened with the PS2.

Bam.
There it is folks.
I don't wanna hear any bitching about the cost anymore.
Could you make a system for less?
Yes. And you have Nintendo to thank for that.
Does a system need to be high-end to be 'great'?
No.
But anyone accusing Sony of raping fans, there you have it.
-
It's going to be the cheapest Blu-Ray DVD player you're going to find, so that's a whole reason right there without even bringing games anywhere near it.

Awkward that this came right after my post. Anyway, I wasn't bitching about the cost, just the fact that I don't have the money to afford one at this time.
-
Katana,
No way talking about your post. Specifically the people (what few remain) claiming Sony is actually doing something evil for charging so much.
Bad,
I wish you luck and I mean that. They're freaking expensive.
PS3 is like buying a Blu-Ray that, oh yeah, happens to play PS games ^O^
For the record, Sony and Microsoft suck -_-
-
Um….. I'm hoping, for the good of mankind, that the winning bidder was just a joke bidder.
-
Would you look at that.
This could only mean one thing.
It's on.
-
Has to be a joke. Japan has been flooded with joke bids. That can only mean one thing! LAWSUITS! WAHOOOOO!
In fact, according to reports, it seems people are scared off and not even taking the reasonably priced bids.
-
You know, that article seems to reiterate the same thing you said before in another Sony thread, about how production costs get cheaper the longer a system is on the market….
But yeah, its mostly the Blu-ray that you're paying for.
-
I was watching the news this morning and it was talking about the PS3 ad they showed a line up in Canada, and it was all calm and everyone was in an orderly fashion.. but when they showed the US line up, there was a riot and cops had to get involved..
I find that sad… very sad.
-
I find that AWESOME!

Would you look at that.
Vegeta what does the Scouter say about the Price that PS3 sold for

Well Greg you made me smile, thank you for your comment. If all you do is just say, "Sony sucks, Xbox sucks, Nintendo sucks, etc" as your opinion then you have no opinion at all since all you are doing is stating what you believe. I try not to look at things with my heart but with my brain. It is true that multiple people are just waiting in lines to later resell their PS3 online for loads of money. Which I find humorous since my roommate works at a BestBuy here in KC. He said that last night there was line of around fifty peopple waiting, only two of them were there for the PS3, the other fourty eight people waiting for wanting the Nintendo Wii.
Now if you take those odds and look at them on a national level you can easily see that Sony will not make a huge profit with the PS3 until a price drops hits or the holidays come closer.
On the subject of my comment about only uneducated people purchase a six hundred dollar console, this is my opinion, as to me I could easily begin to pay off some bills that I have gathered while in college with that money. Or waste all the money on purchasing anime, tattoos, and fixing my car.
-

No, you have an opinion.
It just doesn't count.

Again, the thought put into this statement escapes words. Truly a fantastic post.

True, the opinion doesn't count thing is true when you go to gaming websites such as Gamefaqs and IGN and see the various flame topics over the console wars. Which sometimes you find the actual topics with educational replies in them. Like how I discovered that Nintendo actually worked on the first Playstation for Sony after receiving a huge check from them to develop a prototype disc based console.
Anyways my true reason for replying is to ask if you are actually being truthful in your replys Greg, or just being sarcastic, it is hard to tell the difference on the internet. If you are being truthful them I'm sorry because this comment probably comes off as rude.
-

So that's the version of the story going around these days.
-
Hmm, did anyone actually go buy the system already?
cuz it's 10:20 here, so someone on the board who bought it in Canada, should have it by now .. I wanna know what they think
-
hmmmm I wonder if 1 PS3 now is really worth 6 after January
-
So that's the version of the story going around these days.
From the SNES article at Wiki.
During the SNES's life, Nintendo contracted with two different companies to develop a CD-ROM-based peripheral for the console. Ultimately, negotiations with both Sony and Philips fell through, and the two companies went on to develop their own consoles based on their initial dealings with Nintendo (the PlayStation and the CD-i respectively), Philips also gaining the right to release a series of CD-i titles based on popular Nintendo franchises.

From the SNES article at Wiki.
Ah but that's different. In the other version, Nintendo is painted as a victim working under Sony. Then as a fault due to Sony's arrogance, Nintendo's hard work was fruitless.
Rather than Nintendo letting them go.

Greedy bastard sellers not posting a limit deserve that crap.

Your college tuition?
Uh yeah. That and the college tuition of more than 100 of your best friends. Did you count the zeroes?
Unless your college was actually 89 Million dollars for 4 years….like my goddamn school ^O^ (feels like it)

Well true, I could easily pay off my tution, and my brothers. Plus have enough to get a custom made Harley Davidson.
Or I could get a whole lot of 99 cent cheeseburgers from Wendy's.

I vote for the latter and a large Frosty!
And the the topic of the history surrounding Nintendo and Sony's original Playstation, I've read that it was Nintendo who backed out of the deal at the last minute, before the original Playstation was to be announced. Apparently, some folks at Nintendo didn't like the idea of bringing Sony into the console gaming market.

I heard the exact same story. As a matter of fact, I saw it on G4 as well. Pretty much Nintendo backed out from what I heard.

I thought Nintendo let them go because both sides wanted the profit from publishing the CD based games, and Nintend didn't want any of that. So then bang! Nintendo contacted Philips, but through a series of events it lead to the CD-I and 3 bastard Zelda games and 1 bastardized Mario game. And ofcourse the only potentially decent game that was going to be developed was canned. Oh well, it seems that the story is distorted from all fronts, but the fact that it didn't get release is for the better anyway. It lead to the Playstation, which was a kick in the ass to Nintendo to wake up and get competitive.
I'm pretty sure that Sony will get a cut of the money made from software, hence producing a profit. I don't know how long until the actual system will be. But apparently they might consider releasing a cheaper PS3 next year that'll retail around $400. If that's the case, then a few hits in their favour.
Edit: Speaking of Hits. I just came across this article. From right here in good ol' Connecticut
PUTNAM, Conn. - Two armed thugs tried to rob a line of people waiting to buy the new Playstation 3 gaming console early Friday and shot one who refused to give up the money, authorities said.
The two confronted 15 to 20 people who were in line outside a Wal-Mart store shortly after 3 a.m. and demanded money, said Lt. J. Paul Vance, a spokesman for the state police. The new Sony consoles are selling for around $500 to $600."One of the patrons resisted. That patron was shot," Vance said.
He said the two gunmen fled and the victim was taken to University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester. There was no immediate word on the victim's condition.
Vance said police were searching for the suspects, both believed to be in their teens. He said one was wearing a ski mask and brandishing a handgun, and the other had what appeared to be a shotgun.
Short supplies of the PS3 and strong demand led to lines of buyers, some waiting for days, outside stores across the country.
In Palmdale, Calif., authorities shut down a Super Wal-Mart after some shoppers got rowdy late Wednesday. In West Bend, Wis., a 19-year-old man was injured when he ran into a pole racing with 50 others for one of 10 spots outside a Wal-Mart.
In Lexington, Ky., police were investigating a drive-by shooting that hit four people with BB pellets outside a Best Buy store, causing minor injuries, according to WKYT, whose own reporter was hit as she interviewed buyers in line.
A Best Buy in Boston, aware it had only 140 of the consoles, got smart — its employees gave out tickets to the first 140 people in line so everyone could go home.

PS3 Technical Trouble Report
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/746/746492p1.html
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/746/746282p1.htmlThak you! Been waiting for those. It seems typical enough but my question is about upscaling.
What does that mean?????
And what's 480p 720p etc.?
I know they mean different resolutions or something but what's the deal? Do only certain HDTV's have certain resolutions?
I just don't get it. I'm nowhere NEAR being able to afford anything more than an HDTV bigger than a cereal box (seriously, if you think PS3's are expensive X_X) so I don't plan on getting one for a while but seriously, what is the deal with this stuff and does it mean anything to the average Joe that still has an analog TV?
