One Piece The Movie - The Desert Princess and the Pirates
-
Sounds pretty cool~~
-
this might be one LONG heck of a movie like LOTR
-
Doubtful, very doubtful.
-
I really doubt that, since animation is expensive and takes a long time to do. Since this one's on-schedule for their yearly marker, I doubt it's unusually long.
-
Ooh, a redo of Arabasta? Cool, I really do wonder where they'll start though. I'm guessing once they actually reach the island, because otherwise there would be way too much to put in an hour and a half or so film. However, a reanimation of the entire saga would be incredibly awesome. New score designed specifially for the arcs, but Dvorak MUST play in the movie.
-
i really feel that this would be great but there is a part of me that hungers for something new…
Arabasta Arc is the arc that hooked me into one piece and also i get to see vivi again, i miss her so much... im always hoping that she'll join the crew some how and i hav a lot of predictions in my head on how that'll happen...
It's also a good thing that they didn't enhanced their breasts so much unlike movie 7 but there is a part of me that wants to see what Vivi looks like if that happens... -
oh boy i got quite abit to say on this one, well i guess i need to start.
1.Plz let them not ruin ths great arc
2. Plz no big Boobs, realy wouldnt mind, but ill go watch hentai if i need to.
3. heh this may be the way to finaly get some of my friends into OP.
4. heh the time differance between the series and the time for the movie is too great IMO.
5. i have the feeling that some one some where will screw this up, note it cant be as bad as movie 7, but well you guys know it could be bad.
6. my 2 cents Alabasta, just rolls better.
7. im going to pray that this turns out well.
8. and hopefullly we get a great sound track with a little dvorak with it
kneels down and starts to pray atleast till i have to deal with school, well cya in March folks. -
Since they'r now making an alabasta-remaked movie…
what if they made a Davy Back Fight-remaked movie? since it's not a lengthy arc and it's quite fun though.well, yeah I hope they won't ruin this movie..and hoping that with this movie there will be more OnePiece fans :D
-
Oh yeah. If they redraw the whole of the Arabasta arc they're obviously gonna take advantage of the fact Nami and Vivi wear scandalous clothing. But it would be nice to see Vivi…........Y'know. xDD
-
I loved Oda's art in the Alabasta arc – so many excellent panels! So I
was a bit let down when Toei's animation didn't quite capture the unique vibe of it (not blaming Toei though -- I know it would have been hard for anyone to duplicate it, especially on a tight time schedule!). So I'm very excited by the possibility of a remake with higher quality art. Count me in among those who want a remake of Skypiea, too, and among those who call it Alabasta instead of Arabasta, for the same reasons mentioned before. One last thought : I'm looking forward to seeing the action flow like a "volume" instead of like an "episode" -- without commercials, opening and closing theme interruptions and weeks waiting in between.
-
Hmm, wow this seems like an interesting idea. Though what will be put in it that it becomes a movie? Scenes that were wanted in the Alabasta arc but couldn't be kept?
-
This just sounds like something remade, repackaged and set to sell. This shouldn't really count as a movie. It seems more like they're just doing this to boost a sale. Though I'm a fan of the arc too, this is just a waste of time. My guess is they're waiting for Oda to make a desicion on where the next arc is going to take them and who the next crew member might be.
I know this will not float everyone's boat.

Site updated today from URL not working at all to…
http://www.toei-anim.co.jp/movie/2007_onepiece/index.htmlYea, it was easy to figure out the URL since the only thing that changes every year is the year in the URL. Movie 9 will be http://www.toei-anim.co.jp/movie/2008_onepiece/index.html
So look out for that too =P -
Neither of those links are working for me and I can't seem to find the right pages.
-
This reminds me of the old Dragonball (Not Z) movies, because they were basics redone versions of every arc, like how movies 2 and 3 completely ignore the show's timeline. This is a very interesting idea and I'd love to see how this whole storyline is cleared up in slightly more than an hour.
-

Obviously movie 9 isn't going to work because the movie doesn't come out till next year. It was there more of a joke saying how easy the URLs are to figure out.
The movie 8 page updated to saying that the site is being prepared. So we should have an active site soon.
People get click happy without reading -_-

Thats exactly what I was just thinkin bout all the Dragonball movies with the alternate storylines lets jsut hope it doesn't get outta hand with One Piece like it did with Dragonball.

Ahhh. I did read, I was just tired when I found this and misinterpreted what you wrote.
-
To be honest, I had my doubts about squeezing a long arc like Alabasta into a 90 minute movie. But, I really think that Toei can make this movie more than just a re-cap. I'm really looking forward to seeing certain scenes re-done. With a higher animation budget, Gomu Gomu no Storm is gonna look great!
Does anyone think they'll keep the story more faithful to the manga? They could start the movie when the crew is crossing the desert, and maybe a short summary of the Rebellion and all of the political conspiracies Crocodile planned so he could rule Alabasta at the beginning.
-
this will be great.

Yes, they want to make money. The FIENDS!!!
-

Its movie 7 all over again… jiggle jiggle jiggle. Who wants pudding?
-
wouldnt it be a bit wierd if they change a few events/fights ? i havnt seen a movie that did that so i dunno what its going to be like. is it possible that they change who fights who and who does what and it comes out great?
-

http://www.toei-anim.co.jp/movie/2007_onepiece/index.htmlLooks like the site has updated.
-
Yup, teaser too.
I was right about the date as any idiot would have been able to guess what it was, March 3rd. -
The teaser looked funky enough. Can't wait to see how it ends up:happy:…
-
Ahhh…But those scenes were the EXACT SAME from the one in the series.
I hope that it changes, and they re-animate it, instead of combine the old episodes.
-
TEASER TRAILER. Remember how first trailers from previous movies were clips of older movies. Do you really think they are actually gonna use stuff from the show in the actual movie?
-
Hm, the trailer doesn't seem to work… oo; Or maybe my computer's just being stupid?
-
of course the clips in the teaser are from the show. that's the beauty of the teaser
show the clips from the series in black and white to make fan want to freeze themself just so they wouldn't have to wait(soutpark joke)
seriously i think it will be awsome to see the story of arabasta all over again with better quality and maybe scenes that weren't in the original story.
and i wouldn't hurt to see nami again in that outfit in better qualiy(XD jiggly jiggly) -
Ahh I got it. Well, thats a relief. Heh, but that pic on the main site with the Strawhats and Vivi holding thier arms up with the X looks great.
-
the trailer is on megaupload
-
Can anyone translate what the words are during the trailer?
-
It says a generic trailer-type speech, something along the lines of "a story of a princess and a group of pirates" sorta thing.
-
-
Judging from the design of the x-mark picture on the movie site, this will look awesome. The Arabasta arc are on of my favorite arcs aswell, so I hope they make it without removing too much of the original story… Since the arc was quite long it will be exiting to see how they shorten it all down into one movie:happy:
-
Yes, they want to make money. The FIENDS!!!
The connotations traditionally associated with that conjecture imply the upcoming film will be of exceedingly low and comedic quality.
-
uuuum, no.
They intend to make something people will LIKE! If they make a shit movie, then the hardcore fans will see it and tell other fans that it isnt worth it and they DON'T make money. Greed actually makes Good things happen most times. that's why Toei made the OP anime in the first place, they figured with the Manga's Popularity, they could make MONEY off of it.
So I reiterate Greg's Appalingly appropriate Comment
They want to make money, The FIENDS!! -
yay, a new movie!! XD omg cant wait to see it. but..more vivi? X(
-
Awesome, hopefully it'll be just as good if not better than the Arabasta arc itself :D
-
The connotations traditionally associated with that conjecture imply the upcoming film will be of exceedingly low and comedic quality.
You're using big words just to annoy Greg for starting that thread about big words, aren't you? XD
No, fact of the matter is that the goal of all corporations is to make money. For someone to say "they're just trying to boost revenue" is kind of like saying to a salesman "You're just trying to sell stuff!"
-
The connotations traditionally associated with that conjecture imply the upcoming film will be of exceedingly low and comedic quality.
So Oda's writing OP entirely for the 'personal satisfaction' it gives him?
Don't mean to come off as a sarcastic prick but…saying a company, "just wants to make money.", is something I believe people should only criticize AFTER they've been downsized from a real job with a family depending on them to work.
-
Okay, what is the song that plays during the teaser trailer?
-
uuuum, no.

They want to make money, The FIENDS!!I was just explaining the term "it's just made to make money"'s origins, since on face value it looks like a "duh" sort of rhetorical statement, but that is only the case since the original meaning has been neglected for a long period of time. I'm not commenting on movie at all.
You're using big words just to annoy Greg for starting that thread about big words, aren't you? XD
Huh? No. o_O;
So Oda's writing OP entirely for the 'personal satisfaction' it gives him?
Sigh, I didn't think I needed to elaborate much on this, but I guess clarification is needed.
Let's take an example like, oh, The Land Before Time; the original movie by Don Bluth was meant to be an emotional hero's journey story to a holy land, with several Biblical and classical Greek undertones all under the fascade of baby dinosaurs with contrasting personalities. It was fudging amazing.
The sequels to the story are almost moralistic, promoting cultural values, ethnic diversity, tolerance and understanding of complex issues; basically, they've got little to nothing in common with the original movie aside from bearing the same characters, simmilar VA's and a brand name. These sequels are also of exceeding low quality in all manners of production (except vocals), from music to writing and general artwork (aesthetics/animation).
Terms like "it's just made to make money" usually refer to these sort production, implying that the only marginal benefit is for the corporation and not the consumer (id est, watching the movie is not an enjoyable experience). A one-sided transaction, for lack of a more concrete economic term.
To answer your question, Oda's writing OP for personal satisfaction, economic satisfaction, and the satisfaction of his fans (the latter two of which could tie into the former, I guess). Shueisha + VIZ Media only care about the economic satisfaction while, the latter hides behind a veneer of gaining "corporate satisfaction" via a promotion of Japanese culture.
Which is why I am harshly critical of them; it's a brilliant strategy but I simply don't like it.
-
I wonder how long will it be. I saw the other ones already, and each of them were like between 90 to 120 mins (or maybe even less)
-
Huh? No. o_O;
I was joking, relax.

I don't think anyone disagrees with you there, it's just that you seem to not have understood that the comment was a joke to begin with, it wasn't meant to ensue a long debate about profit versus art.
Toei does care to a degree about pleasing fans. Without fans of Oda's work, there's nothing for them to release.
Regardless of Toei/Shueisha's money making strategies, the teams who produce the movies are still a bunch of creative artists, directors, writers, and actors, who are trying to make something enjoyable and successful.
From past experience, some of the movies are more successful artistically and economically than others.BTW I agree with you about The Land Before Time…I loved the original movie, the existence of the crappy sequels make me cry.
-
Well the teaser looks great. It's okay if they don't show the new scenes right away. It'll keep us surprised
-
Thank god Toei has decided to stop attempting storylines and failing miserably. I'm all for this and re-doing other parts of the show that had SHIT for animation. coughNorlandandCalgaracough.
-
Ahh I got it. Well, thats a relief. Heh, but that pic on the main site with the Strawhats and Vivi holding thier arms up with the X looks great.
That was my thought too. Those illustrations really do look gorgeous.
