The last thing I think DBGT has is "better animation" I would prefer DB animation more than anything. The character changes in GT annoy me:

That's Goku. And yes, the character design is very similar, but like I said look at them in close ups, the proportions on their faces gets all screwed up, at least to me and all my friends who have watched GT.

I just noticed Goku's tan…..I don't think he had it in the anime did he?

Oddly enouh Out of all the bad things that are in dbgt,The one thhing that turned me off the most was seeing the dragon with a looney toons cigar.

Alright, I'm done talking about this with you, you're reaching to the point where it's ridiculous. Goku has the same exact design, done in Toriyama's newer style (unless you're gonna sit here and tell me Toriyama drew better when everyone was chubby and had 2-pack abs). If you can point out any actual problems with the proportioning besides "it sucks", then do so. Until then, if you want to talk about bad animation (which is, again, absolutely insane), let me direct you to moments like this, and call it a day. You obviously want to hate GT, so whatever. Be a hater. Makes no nevermind to me.

Regarding another poster, I don't see how Baby was anything like Buu, aside from being able to liquify, and having a name that starts with B.

Artists evolve their styles, and it shows through longer series'.

Also GT was created YEARS after dragonball when animation quality was higher.

GT was Terrible, but I like the Animation, even if some of the art was odd.
One thing GT did that I loved was the Last 4 minutes of the Series, where it shows a montogue of the whole thing to Dan Dan Kokoro Hikareteku. except for the 10 second part that was a clip of SSJ4 Goku, it was beautiful.

No it's not, because Toriyama did not draw GT Goku. Oda drew Nami from early to present. So that analogy does not work.

Also, in DB through the end of DBZ, Goku looked more or less the same, then magically in GT he changes quite a bit. The character designs in GT were different, you can tell from their faces.

I loved the pre-cell saga stuff. Its a pity it went downhill after the Freiza saga, Dragonball was the first anime I ever watched properly, good times haha. But I don't think its under-rated. If so….blame the stuff after Freiza!

You haven't been keeping up, the box set they just released is the first 39 episodes on 6 discs. They did this weird widescreen thing though, it isn't too dristracting and the colors do look much sharper imo.

Really?! Then that is fucking awesome! I've been wanting them to re-air the Cell saga for years. I swear they only aired the Cell Games saga one time and that was back when it first premiered. After that they always stop right around the Android Saga.

OK, I decided to bring this thread back to say a thing or two about Dragon Ball GT.

I've been thinking about the show a lot lately, mostly due to playing a lot of DBZ Sparking! METEOR and listening to the

very often in the past day. And I've kind of decided on something:

GT IS NOT a absolutely terrible as a lot of people say it is.

I say this mostly because I realized that the show actually had a lot of really, really good concepts and ideas. It's just that the execution was.. frequently, pretty bad.

The best idea they had was definitely the plot of the final arc. I personally think that there being a really, really interesting idea. I really liked the Evil Dragon, too- the main thing that sucked was the dragons it split up into- though I kind of liked the 1-Star Dragon, and the 4-star dragon being kind of a "good guy" was a great touch.

The ending was pretty marvelous too. Goku and the Dragonballs finally leave, and the earth has to deal with things themselves now.

Super 17 had some interesting ideas too- the two evil scientists teaming up, and Hell opening up. Too bad Super 17 had such a lame design.

Pilaf and his cronies returning at the beginning was awesome. The Black Star Dragon Balls…. eh, kinda stupid. At first I kind of disliked Goku becoming a kid again, then i was mixed. Now I realized it was actually a pretty cool move; Goku by the end of Dragon Ball Z was so ungodly powerful- pretty much nothing could stop him, and a new series with just Goku as is wouldnt've been very interesting. Also, it kind of breathed some new life back into the story. Of course, they could've tried making Uub the main character, but that'd never fly with the fans.

The Space Adventure could've been really fun, and it was- the main problem was some parts just kind of dragged on way too long. And why did Pan and Trunks come along? Why not Uub? And I still contest that Baby was lame.

I cant speak for the audio (since I only watched it via Cartoon Netowkr every now and then), but the anime and art were top notch.

Like I said, most of the problem was execution. And a few other things: Pan fucking sucked and yet she had the most focus (next to Goku), and Uub, Goku's student, didn't nearly have as much focus as he probably should've. And a bunch of other things I don't feel like struggling to remember.

So yeah. Dragon Ball GT.

Wow, Carter. That was pretty much the way I feel. And yeah, GT had a much better ending that Z did. In alot of ways, GT was a throwback to the original DB days with DBZ mixed in there. Indeed execution was GT's main flaw. And I kinda like Super 17's design although the way he was defeated was kinda lame. But agreed, 99%

Another thing was how nice of a touch it was that the final villain was pretty much the super embodiment of the evils of the Dragon Balls.

As for Super 17's defeat… I kind of liked it, because of how reminiscent it was of the Piccolo Daimao fight.

OH YEAH, another thing. SSJ4 had a really sweet design. Definitely the coolest of the "Super Saiyans" since the first (though 3rd wasn't necessarily terrible… it's just nice to see something other than the game hair get bigger and golder)

I always say the best things about GT were the music and the ending. Reading that made me kind of want to watch it though. I've never actually seen every episode of GT. Definitely don't want the English dub though. I'll try to find those old Super5 subs.

And as stupid as it sounds, yeah, adult Goku stuck as a kid was at least cute.

I only got to watch some VHS fansubs of GT, so I haven't seen the whole series. I did like what I saw though.

Although I also saw some online fansubs (but they seemed like the VHS ones, at least in video quality, but I dunno). The Super 17 arc had Chinese audio (or something like that).

I want to see the rest of the series (in good quality), but I probably won't buy the DVDs unless there is a really cheap boxset.

There were some alright ideas regarding GT, but most of it I saw was crap.

-While I like the concept of a more DB based adventure series with DBZ-style action, the means that it came to just were dumb. How the heck are there suddenly a second set of Dragonballs out of nowhere on Earth? And why the heck does it have to be Goku who becomes a kid and has to get them back? And why the heck did they use Pan anyway? Personally I sort of wished that it was Goten and Trunks with maybe Bra as the "Bulma" and..heck, maybe even Uub. That would have been more fun than "Kid Goku, Gohan's tomboy daughter…and Trunks".
-The only thing I actually sort of liked from the whole nonsense of the Baby saga and SSJ4 was the "Golden Oozaru"...at least there they finally tied the two main Saiyan power-ups (Oozaru form, Super Saiyan) together. They did not need another SSJ form particularly after all that happened...nor did they need the whole Baby crap or even Fat Buu merging with Uub.
-Super 17...didn't really like that saga either: the battles really weren't that good, most of the "released villains from hell" were just fodder making them look pathetic to the uber-Saiyans...probably the only fun part of the whole arc was Goku fighting Frieza and Cell in Hell since those two looking like buffoons never gets old.
-The intentions and the idea of a negative effect of the Dragon Balls is a good idea but the Evil Dragons just never worked for me...not even ones others liked.
-And the ending...yeah, probably the best part of the whole saga. Watching Goku finally go away with the Dragon letting the world figure everything out was a nice conclusion even if its another "Goku runs off" ending...though the epilogue was a bit stupid too.

yeah me too it wasnt horrible but it wasnt better than DB or DBZ. I like the omega shenron arc, i heard that toriyama came back to reedeem his show and made that arc.
And super 17 was pretty good. But i hated the first arc and baby arc and i hate how Goten got left and Pan got on…all the good people should have went while washed up trunks and loser pan stayed on earth...

I didn't think GT was too terrible either. I think the main problem is that they ended up straying too much from the original concept of "early DB, but in space". That was a GREAT idea, and I can completely understand why Toriyama liked it. He could've told some great stories with that, and come up some great ideas for aliens too. As soon as it become DBZ, everything went downhill. Of course, it's not like they had much of choice on the matter. The kids wanted DBZ, not another DB. They did it for the ratings.

Bebi and the Dragons were cool ideas for characters, but in the end, just turned out to be really dull shonen villains. And Super 17 was awful, imo. Boring idea, boring character, boring sub-arc. The villains escaping from hell was kind of a neat idea, and it was seeing their asses getting kicked again, but in the end, it just amounted to shit.

Oddly, I liked Pan and Trunks. They were fun characters, at least for me. I liked how different present Trunks turned out to be from future Trunks. And seriously, the Vegata\Bra relationship was a hoot. It was hilarious seeing someone like Vegeta desperately trying to please his teenage daughter.

And yea, the last two episodes were great. Definitely a worthwhile send-off to the series, even though I dug Z's ending too.

As for the dragon ball series in general… Yea, I gotta admit I'm still a fan. Those first 16 volumes are undeniable shonen classics, that at least I feel, influenced the current generation of shonen artists a lot. The greatest moment in the series was when Hercule (after seeing Fat Buu nearly defeated) leaped into the air and kicked Kid Buu square in the face, knocking him down, while the puppy jumped up and ripped off Kid Buu's head tentacle.
I was like #$%@ YES!!!!!! Omg :D

Even though Hercule and the puppy got beat down 5 seconds later, it was still insanely awesome =)

I think some time ago in this thread, a consensus was reached that was pretty much along the lines of what Carter was saying, that underneath a layer of crap GT did have some redeeming qualities.

All I know is that I pretty much got turned off from GT after IF YOU DON'T BRING BACK THE BLACK STAR DRAGON BALLS WITHIN A YEAR THE WORLD WILL BLOW UP! That and Baby, the Robot mutants, General Rilldo, in my experience the whole first arc just sucked big time. Of course I only saw the broadcast version, nor have I seen any of the Super 17 episodes, so I don't how many derps there are between Cartoon Network and FUNimation on the whole.

And I will agree that Super Sayian 4 looked pretty damn awesome.

The best part of GT was the ending montage.

The rest varies from terrible to ok. It just seems as though there was too much baggage to make GT something different from DBZ. I mean, I'm not sure if this is the exactly what happened but it does seem as though the whole Dragonball redux in space wasn't really popular so they just went back to the generic shonen formula and tried to one up themselves with super powered villains for the rest of the series. But the franchise was convoluted enough by the end of Dragonball Z so it just came out as one big mess in GT.

Oh, and GT is Toriyama approved. So if something has Dragonball on it and it sucks, don't say it sucked because Toriyama wasn't involved say it sucked because it sucked.

What the fuck happened to Lunch/Launch from the original Dragonball (that girl who changed personalities if she sneezed)?

Also, I enjoyed GT's ending vastly more than Z's ending.

I remember reading somewhere that Toriyama was the one who suggested Lunch be put into the early DBZ episodes (when they needed filler). I guess he felt bad about forgetting her in the manga.

Not sure if that's totally accurate since I can't remember where I read it though.
