Ahg, I hate .mkv format! It never wants to play on my computer without skipping frames and slowing down, and the only player that it'll work on, Window Media Player, won't show the subtitles. Dammit, I'll have to wait for a hardsubbed version.
Actually MediaCoder is a great program for converting MKV to AVI. Just make sure to set a proper font for the subs and the AVI file should work fine. You can also reduce the screen size, if you do it properly.
At the very least, we get Father and presumably the manga Homonculi in this one… Which is good, because after how indescribably god-awful the last anime villains were, that's at least something...

how exactly are they continuing the series, have they basically started again from the beginning and remade it or have they summarised things and started off from the point were the anime and manga diverged from lst time!?

A bit of both. Basically think the exact opposite of what happened for the last anime. It had a lot of stuff originally from the manga and than dramatically diverged at the halfway point. This time they diverge from the manga from the start and will eventually merge with it. They are going to repeat some plotlines but spice them up in a certain order so it feels fresher. Judging by some of the previews and stuff they are going to at least repeat Lior (they have to since that place comes up later on in the manga in a very different way from the previous anime plus it was shown at the end of episode 1) and probably the Tucker incident too. They will also have to repeat the Hughes incident as well. But other than that its up in the air exactly how they are going to approach and merge into the new manga material. I bet we will see traces of the manga plotline each episode though so even if it seems like repeat material, it may not be all repeat.

I liked that part honestly, it shows the villians in this series as something much darker. Which is how it should be. There is really no sympathetic homunculi like there was in the first anime. (well for the most part they aren't at least >.> don't want to spoil it for people who havn't read the manga.)

Well they have already included several elements from the manga that were absent from the anime telling, but also elements that didn't officially show up till much later in the manga. I have a feeling there are going to be certain plots from the manga that are going to be added into old events (Lior, Tucker etc.) which would allow for the series to make things fresh while at the same time making it apparant that this is not just a simple rehash. The Opening alone hints that several manga related events should happen by the time they hit episode 13 (the time a new OP will come around) with Greed and…
! Young Hoenheim already apparent in the first opening.

This episode was just an introductory episode. It was filler, but it took elements from later in the manga, such as the Ishval massacre and the Philosopher Stones used during it. Father and Kimblee also cameoed. Timeline-wise, it takes place right before the brothers go to Lior, since Al mentions having to cancel train tickets and the last scene shows Lust and Gluttony in the cathedral.

it's a prequel filler ep. just before the actual storyline sets in(the very beginning) and it's quite good as one might add. i'll fall for the anime for sure this time.

If each season is going to be about 13 episode, and lets just say that each episode will be a chapter then that means, hopefully, the anime will be over 100.
I just also realize something else. They don't show the Xing siblings until in the late 30s, so thats why I can't find their VA's yet, because its to early for that.
The only thing that really worries me is that I don't think BONES has ever done a series that lasts for over fifty episodes or so. But I guess they could do a Season 1/Season 2. Ah, we'll see what they do.

lots of .mkv's running loose lately, you should try windows media player + k-lite codec, then even those will play flawlessly synced/subbed and without hang-ups. prefer hardsubs too tough, so hopefully some good group will pick the series up and please us with fast hardsubs in the future.
I got .mkv to work perfectly after messing with my CCCP settings. All I did was check off Autoload VSfilter, I believe. No more slowdown and out of synch-ness for me.

thanks. I'm gonna try that. I had some troubles last season with Code Geass episodes. and this episode was doing the out of sync thing too.
Looks like FUNi's gonna be streaming this subbed on their FMA website in 2 days. I just can't wait till they dub it. I've only seen the English version and watching the Japanese just doesn't have the same effect on me.

That's a shame man. Even though I normally do watch dubbed anime as opposed to subbed anyway, I have to say FMA has probably the best English dub I've ever seen. I can expect FUNi to pull out all the stops again with Brotherhood.

I have to agree with this. I was a big fan of the original FMA sub and as a rule I prefer anything to be presented in the original language with subs, but I was pleasantly surprised when I started seeing it on Adult Swim. While I still prefer the sub, I thought Funi's dub of this was excellent. I'm confident they'll keep up the good work.
The American version will also have a plus in that FUNi will probably keep most of the original cast, minus Daemon Clark (Scar) and Aaron Dismuke (Al). I believe only Ed, Al, and a few other character's voice actors were kept in the Japanese version, while most other characters VAs were replaced.
So, FUNi is without a doubt dubbing it… Now, the question is, will Adult Swim air it? I imagine they would, the first series was a big success for them, was it not?

I want to know, does ANN have TV ratings (of Japan anime) from very old times (I don't know how old is ANN, but I assumed it is at least 10 yrs, right)? Just want to know what was the weekly ratings back then, especially w/ animes like this one, but also ones like Mushi-shi, FB, and some other old classics)

Despite being filler, I enjoyed the first episode. At least the villain was a decent one, not like Majahal -_-
Issac has got to be the best filler villian so far. As far as i'm concerned Incognito takes the cake as worst villian.
Alright, there are some more episode titles out there. Looks like ep. 2 is the backstory, ep. 3 covers Lior, and eps 4-5 cover the Nina incident and lead into Scar's intro. Looks like they skipped Yoki though, so I dunno if they're going to revisit him later or not. Either way, the story's moving faster without all of the filler, since the brothers didn't fight Scar until ep. 14 in the first series.

Man, each Chapter as it approaches the end gets better and better. That was a fantastic ride. Envy does deserve to die, but not in the state Roy's in right now. Plus, the dead have closure. The living do not. Envy only deserves to be tortured for the rest of his existence… which, if Father is defeated, won't be long.
I almost felt bad for envy, emphasis on almost.. I find it weird that he is afraid to die.
I thougth that when Riza asked Mustang to open his hand is because he had a philosopher's stone, not to disarm him.
It is too bad that Ed haven't got a badass battle like this, and it is a shame that… Akarawa? doesn't do battles more often, these last chapters have been great, even if the only casualty has been Kimbley..
But I guess that this battle was great because the emotions invested in it.
Hawkeyes was way too badass in this one.
Poor Ms. Bradley, I hope that Selim doesn't eat her. I find it very weird that we don't know anyting about the Fuhrer yet... It would be very irregular and weird that he is already dead, most likely he will face Greedling, or he already betrayed father and is hiding to aparear after his defeat to reclaim the Presidency after all is done.

Man, the FMA chapters for the past few months have just been divine. This was just upping the ante again. Both Mustang AND Hawkeye get more awesome points. Especially Hawkeye. She defines the reason why "girls with guns" are uberly cool.
