Well I couldn't find a thread for it so here are some new screens.

Rasta stormtroopers.
The game still looks sexy as ever :)
Sexy.
13 looks to be good…. insofar as I've been able to see.
know anything about 13? is it going to be online, or for consoles, if so, which ones? Any details about story line. is it gonna be a traditional FF story, or follow the newer games, in the type of story it tells. (liked the traditional FF stories better.) And now that CG has gotten so advanced, I'm starting to get critical with it. The skin looks so real, yet, when I look at her face, she doesn't have the same look a real person has. And although, I can see individual strands of hair, it does not look like real hair, quite yet. Still, it is amaising, how far graphics have advanced. (heh heh, been playing FF6 again)
it'll probably be a technology vs magic type of thing, and the technology is destroying the world, bringing these demons into the world
but sadly FFXII will be my last PS FF, unless the PS3 gets a huge price drop.
sorry, I didn't explain myself very well. The FF story is usually based on that. I should say, I prefer it when the setting is in the past, more than set in present/future times. (FF6=good FF7=bad) imo.
Isn't it obvious it's future-esque from the trailer

FFXIII is for PS3 with 2 other games in the "series", FF Versus XIII also for PS3 and FFXII Agito for cell phones. There really is nothing revealed about the story so far and it is offline. Also, all of those screens are ingame.
Square Enix has registered a new patent in US for Final Fantasy Haeresis XIII, which is a previously unannounced title, and it seems to be a part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis: Final Fantasy XIII group project.
Say what you will about Sony. I think the company most in need of a swift kick in the nuts is SE to get their priorities back in line.
It looks good but I wonder if it will play well. FFX-2 looked good but played terribly. That character also reminds me of yuna with guns, luckily that other trailer with the guy walking down some stairs looks promising.
You might as well kick them both greg since they've both forgotten their priorities.
Actually, the new girl reminds me a lot more of Ashe than Yuna.
Actually, the new girl reminds me a lot more of Ashe than Yuna.
Well I guess she does, I just used yuna because she uses guns and this new girl also does.
I dunno. I mean it looks nice, but then so does FFXII and frankly that game has failed to hook me. Additionally when combined with the PS3's price and so far lack of any real interesting exclusive games (DMC4 is multi format and MGS4 may also be), I'm in the same boat as rusashi.
Plus, truth be told, in general I feel Disgaea and Nippon Ichi's work in general > Final Fantasy (mainly due to the prinnies dood).
Well, it DOES look good, I'll give it that. And as long as its fun to play, it merits my purchase. I'll just wait and see the reviews whenever they may come.
I brought this thread back from the dead not to discuss SE's last hope (ie. FF13) but rather their announcement of yet ANOTHER spin off for the 13 series.
Those bastards can't do anything right except cling to the VERY few franchises they have. Whatever happened to original gems like Einhander, EVO, Treasure Hunter G even. Granted DQ8 was AMAZING but it wasn't even in-house. And hell, I wouldn't care if they didn't focus on one series so much if they didn't BLATANTLY ignore series that fans are CRAVING for sequels to.
FF has lost it's way. I'm not gonna blame them for being 'evil corporate bastards from hell' because money is money, but for Chrissake, give the people what they friggin' want!
I kind of miss the times when they managed to fit a story into one game instead of five.
The FFXIII and FFVII worlds are supposed to be related in the same way that FFT and FFXII are related, but I don't recall Magicite crystals in FFVII so maybe I'm worng. Regardless, the girl Lightning is chosen by the crystals to save them.
I'm not liking FFXIII:Versus right now. Squall-esque emoboy=nono.
The only thing they're coming out that I'm looking forward to is FFTA2, which they need to release more goddamn info for. Oh yeah, Dragon Quest IX as well. Too bad the DQ series never took off in America, it definitely has more charm than FF.
I kind of miss the times when they managed to fit a story into one game instead of five.
Exactly. Now instead of looking forward to something totally new every 2-3 years, it's 4-5 years of the same shit over and over.
Even though I liked it, FFX2 started a sickness like no other.
I don't know about anyone else, but I've seen a few videos of FFXII:Revanent Wings, that and Dragon Quest IX certainly have my interest.
The art from RW and FFTA2 make me want to castrate something.
Those square-enix lads need to get dem selves some guinness it works wonders for my mind.
@DODGY:

I fucking love you. And you know you got talent when someone reads your post and a strong scottish accent kicks straight in in the mind.
This and Versus is what makes me want to get a PS3, Nomura does not cease to amaze me. He is my idol! Also, I heard that the game would be somehwat similar to the Kingdom Hearts battle system.
Amano >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Nomura
Amano >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Nomura
QFT
Anyone else wondered if the main character was a he or a she?
Damn the artisit and his 'girly-ish' males >_<.
This shit needs to hit the Revo or 360…..BTW what's FF13 Versus? An online game/MMORPG?
Bumping this since it seems like we have somewhat of a main cast now.
Lightning of course
Snow, the blond headed guy
Vanille, the summoning pig tailed chick
and 3 more revealed in the JUMP Festa trailer, hopefully someone who actually went can confirm these for me
We have a younger guy with blond hair, compared to Tidus
A dark hair girl compared to Yuffy
and a black guy with an orange afro and a strange hair line
I'm excited about the black guy
And why is this in the media forum
Because it was made and last bumped before the Video Game forum was made. Back then video games, tv shows and movies all shared the same forum. I still can't believe they're calling the heroine "Lightning". Isn't that suppose to be a codename? They aren't actually naming her that, are they?
I lol at the fact that her design was suppose to be a "female Cloud". A black guy with an afro, how original. XD
Does sound badass, tho.
I have to say I like the designs of both Snow and Vanille quite a bit. I like that Snow actually looks kind of butch and not that Asian, even with the long hair, and Vanille looks adorable. Though I can't figure it out, the way her katakana reads it sounds like her name should be Vanilla. Maybe the e at the end has a weird pronunciation.
The Black guy sounds fun, yay for minorities! There's always either 1 Black guy or 1 dark skinned cast member since 7, (Barret, Kiros, Vivi is literally the color black, Wakka was the token ethnic person, you can be black in 11, or at least really dark, and in 12 Fran was totally Black) Orange fro sounds pretty epic.

Well, you be the judge on this one.
From PS3Fanboy.com:
Most of the information in the mag scans regarding the battle system is already well-known, such as no random encounters. The only truly new information is – after two and a half years -- we're finally going to know one character's real name. While "Lightning" and "Snow" are code names for the main female lead and the blond dude with a bandana, "Oerba Dia Vanille" is the first actual name to be revealed, and it belongs to the spunky red-haired girl.
I think they need to stick with normal names for once.
whatever happened to names like John? and Andrew? or even Will? Remember Wil Knights from Saga Frontier 2? good name, no? NOOOOOO, cuz Square-Enix wants every friggin name to sound fantastical, like they just picked out random letters and arranged it weirdly, depending on how many letters you can input for their names. (i.e. Chrono Trigger had 5)
It's because the Japanese have strange names, everything they create must too. Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy XII had strange names, but they were still simple and sounded good.
It's true, names are getting weirder. I mean, my cousin's kid just started day care and three of his classmates are FINNBAR, EBA, and COLTRAINE.
And yes, it was high time this thread was moved to it's proper place.
Guys, Lightning is a code name. They actually state her real name will be revealed during the course of the game.
I mean, at least it's not as bad as the name KOS-MOS (Kosmos Obey Strategic Multiple Operating Systems) having Kosmos in it. Besides, normal names are boring. My friend's kid is named Brayden, for example, and it's a perfectly normal name. (It's Gaelic for Brave). I think with access to the internet and translators, people are actually taking consideration into what they name their kids, because different names mean different things.
I'd actually prefer fantasy settings to have fantasy names, honestly. Would you rather have "Bill the brave Elven Archer" than "Elowyn the brave Elven Archer"?
It's true, names are getting weirder.
Agreed. When I have a hard time recalling who someone is, you know there's something off. I mean ask me who Hojo is, I could tell you. Give me a name of any of The Judges and I would have have nothing.
Same problem in Bleach with the Espada.
The only judge of importance was Gabranth anyway, and we all know him. Heck, he made it into the game.

You don't have to be boring with names, but there is a line you shouldn't cross. My coworker told me about her sister who named her daughter "Jikaiya", which was a combination of "Jake" and "Mariah". I mean, what the hell!? (Anne McCaffrey did that in the Pern books, but again, fantasy/sci-fi!)
I admit though, if I have kids I may go a little hippie on them and name them after trees. If I have a boy, I REALLY want to name him Rowan, and if it's a girl, then Willow.
. . . . . . .And now I want a them to make a FF character named Rowan.
Okay, don't get me started on Bleach's names. Jesus Christ…
ANy info on Final Fantasy Versus 13?! Because it's the first FF that's looked really interesting in a long time. Partly because it's the first FF in decades where the men look like men.
Okay, don't get me started on Bleach's names. Jesus Christ…
What's wrong with Bleach's names?
Ichigo = Strawberry or #1 Guardian
Orihime = Japanese name for Vega, the princess on which Tanabata is based
Chad = Well, Chad
Uruyu = Dragon King
Gin = Silver
Most of the Bleach names are common Japanese words. It's no different in One Piece:
Luffy = Luffing, which is using a sail to catch wind current
Nami = Wave
Usopp = Combination of Aesop and Usoji, which means Liar
Sanji = 3 O'clock
And you actually expect people to remember most of that?
Edit: you actually expect your average weeaboo to remember that?
Actually Oda admitting to not knowing the nautical term "luff" when he named Luffy, it was brilliant coincidence.
But yeah, none of the names in Bleach are particularly out there, although the Espada are stretching it.
I'd like to see some more info on Versus as well, but I guess we'll have to wait. Although I admit I'm getting some discouraging emo vibes from it.
I was going on which other complicated they are, especially the family names. They are overtly Japanese, while I realize that makes perfect sense, it is too much for normal non-Japanese people. I like my names to be simple, because simple is good. XD
But yeah, none of the names in Bleach are particularly out there, although the Espada are stretching it.
They're all named after architects, though, so… Yeah...
Most anime/manga japanese names are not really fancy; in fact, they are actually normal names. It's just that since when their name is written in English, people think it's exotic or something.
What sounds normal in one language is in fact, intriguing to others.
What's wrong with Bleach's names?
The CENTRAL main cast ones? Nothing.
The Espada and the infinite smaller roles of the Shinigami ranks which we see once every two years or so drive me up the wall though.
