If they can put Zelda on the DS, then they can do Okami. As long as they don't have any damn temple you keep having to go back to again and again and again.
Okami and Okami-Den

Piece of shit Japanese guy:
"Hey! Let's take a fucking AMAZING title that has a HUGE following despite being one that everyone assumed would be dead and instead of bringing it out on the most popular next generation platform that is DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR MOTION-FEEDBACK let's put it on an inferior platform."
Piece of shit Japanese guy who owns a company:
"Fuck yeah bitch! Shit worked for DQ9!"
Aren't you over-reacting?
The DS version doesn't rule out the possibilities of another game.
Especially if it does well this time.
-
But wasn't the first game originally made for the PS2 which didn't have motion feedback?
I meant it in the sense that the gameplay lends itself to be designed for a system with feedback like Wii. I'm sorry for the confusion.
If they can put Zelda on the DS, then they can do Okami.
I don't think anyone's saying they can't do it. They totally can. They can do whatever they want.

You should be well adjusted to my over the top and uncessary diatribes on video games by now.
-
Huh. Well, I'm not going to judge this game untill we get some more information.

as a big fan of the original game. I gotta agree with you here Greg.
Seriously, what a terrible idea. Let's take the most appealing aspect about the original game and completely downgrade it.
Yeah I know the touch screen would work well along with the celestial brush mechanic, but it means jack to me if it doesn't look good.
I don't like to rule out games based on graphics. But Okami has always been an exception. The reason I bought the damn game wasn't because I could make wind blow, or trees grow, or cut enemies with a brushstroke… It was because all that LOOKED AWESOME!
What next capcom? Godhand for the DS as a tactics game?
-
http://www.gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=95239
I did enjoy the gameplay more than the plot or the art, I haven't tried the wii version of okami yet, so I can't say much about it, but I hope that the action still stops when you are using your brush techniques..
-
Why are you guys whining? Those screens look pretty fucking good.
-
gasp Okami Puppy!!
-
I'm amazed at just how skeptical and angry some people are being all over the place about this. I figured people would be up in joy about it with the whole stylus thing.
Also, Greg. Wasn't Okami ported to the Wii already?
-
I dunno it looks cool, and the stylus should work well.
-
I wonder if the spirit of Clover would be left in the game(the plant you can grow… maybe they would replace it with a Capcom logo XD). I know some of the guys that worked under them are still around, though I heard several of them moved to Platinum Games.
EDIT: There's like a 3 second preview here
-
Why are you guys whining? Those screens look pretty fucking good.
I beg to differ. I think they look somewhere between
fucking amazing
andholy shit that
s DS?` myself.Which is what hurts even more.
If they can pull that with a DS….
Buuhan,
Yes....Okami WAS ported to Wii....which is.....my point.
-
Uaaaaaaaaaaa! It Look Horriable!
Were's The Awesome Effects?! -
Are you serious? Not only does it look good, I'm amazed they managed to recreate a similar effect on the DS. And from what's available on the movie preview it only looks slightly pixelated which is remarkable considering the hardware.
That is of course separate from my undying rage at the decision to avoid a more expensive design process on a more powerful platform, but from what little we've seen there's little to nothing to complain about with respect to comparing it to its predecessor.

Yeah about that…..
I like you and all, but could you like, not do that? 'K thnx.
Anyways...
I still need to get around to playing the original, but I can totally see a game like this working on the DS, assuming they're still keeping the calligraphy theme. I mean the DS stylus is practically an invitation to that sort of thing.
-
seeing the new screens have changed my opinion from "fanboy harsh" to "surprised but skeptical".
The calligraphy theme looks to be in place and the puppy Amaterasu is pretty neat as well. The fact that the celestial brush will probably be used with touch screen takes care of the DS having two less buttons than a ps2 controller (I really don't remember how many were used in the original anyway).
I dunno, I suppose I just gripe because i'm such a huge fan of Clover studio's work. Seeing one of their best games on the DS just makes me (like Greg) wish for more next-gen console attention for their IPs (I would pay top dollar for a ps3/360 Godhand sequel).
but hey, I suppose a DS game is better than nothing. And I don need some more DS games than just Chrono Tigger and Jump: Ultimate Stars
-
I like you and all, but could you like, not do that?
Don't hate the player, hate the….can't….finish…...horrific…..pun…...

That's what I'm here for…

Well, we have an official Okamiden trailer:
BODj1D3Uvgo
I'm hesitant to get my hopes up. On the one hand, it LOOKS, and sounds, like the Okami we all know and love. With the added bonus of Ammy being a puppy. BUT, will this be fun to play on the DS? The trailer made it look simple enough, but will it be fun? Will the story be worth a damn?
WILL I EVER GET MY DREAM SEQUEL OF THE GOLDEN PAIR OF WAKA AND AMATERASU ADVENTURING THROUGH HEAVEN!?

looks… so... awesome...
but it also looks like the exact same game. Still, I'm impressed, if the graphics nd music really hold up that well, and its also one of the only cases where I actual feel the DS stylus is legitimatley ideal for a game (normally I hate it) I LOVED the first game, played nothing else for like six months.
I am.. cautiously optomistic about this. Probably going to eliminate the sake element, but thats hardly a dealbreaker to me.
And I also would also have preferred a true sequal, but it looks like they'll be reusing a lot of the locations and characters in this. I am a little bothered by it being just a few months later, can't the world exist in peace for a WHILE before some great evil pops up again?
-
Bumped for this:
Three Okami Sun shirt, bitches! -
THAT IS FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!!!! I want one!!
-
Apparently only 500 were made.
Damn it.
And there will be one to win at a raffle at comic-con? Hey, I'M going to comic-con! I could w– oh. right. comic-con is huge. Probably won't even find it. Let alone win against however many hundreds of other people enter.
Curses.
Make it avaialble on amazon, capcom!
Also, apparently the Japanese release of Okamiden is getting a crazy collectors edition expensive deluxe box with... stuff.
Yes, those are wolf headphones.
AND STILL the game won't get here till 2011!
-
You must win that shirt, Robby. Use the Will of D! Or the heart of the cards.
I'd totally wear those headphones. I don't care how many people would mock me derisively and/or question my sexuality! Then I'd show them all by giving that cute Chibiterasu to my lady friend…

So much win, I hope that collectors edition make it to europe

This reminds me that I still need to get this game. I only played a few hours of it back around it's release date.

Yeah. Won't be waiting for this one to be used for a discount price. That'll be a first day release sort of purchase.
2011? Sigh.
Looks great though. Mermaid partner? Interesting. Still a bit worried about handling the controls AND the stylus at the same time though.
-
I hope capcom don't release it near the 3DS.
Don't need another reason for people not to buy okami.
-
I don't even remember the last time I got goosebumps like that. ;u; The game looks fantastic! Cannot wait~
And that collectors edition looks awesome..! ;A; Do want! -
So. Amazon has OkamiDen up for pre-order stateside..
March 29, 2011.
That's a ways off. Sigh.
-
Do you play as baby Amaterasu? How cute. I'll be getting this game as well, looks really good. The sidekick mechanic looks like it'll be pretty fun to use. I have a question, though. I have Okami for the PS2, is it worth it to trade it in and get it for the Wii?
-

Oh wow. There's a really big wait until we get it.
About the video, cool to see that Chibi Ammy will get some more partners besides Suzano's son/daughter.

well it does look like it will probably get very OVERSHADOWED by the 3DS
-
Hmmm, looks like Chibi-Ammy gets several partners throughout the game.
Oooo, I wonder if the mermaid there is the child of Otohime!?
-

Nah, its pretty much the same game.
-
Still at comicon, but during a bit of free time I had to wander around today, I stopped by the capcom booth to try out some street fighter… and saw that they had a demo of Okami-den going, so naturally I gave that a shot.
First of all, the DS XL's are awesome. Their size and weight and bigger screen aleviate all the problems I have with the regular ds... and were it not for the 3ds coming out in a few months, I'd probably upgrade to one.
Anyway, the game itself controls and feels just like classic Okami, totally intuitive. Even getting the kid off your back and making him roam around is simple. My gratest worry, which had been about freezing time and then switching to stylus, is alleviated.
In original Okami, you had to keep holding the shoulder button to freeze times, akward while also holding a stylus. But in this edition, you tap the shoulder button, the top screen freezes, rolls down to the bottom screen, and then gives you a counter of 20 seconds to paint... whatever. If you do the swipe and have time left over, you can tap the shoulder button again and it unfreezes, and rolls back up to the top screen.
Which is about the duration it would last before, and plenty of time to toggle. Biggest worry alleviated. Music is exactly the same, and it looks to be all there. The experiance looks to be exactly what it needs to be. Looking forward to it even more...
in March 2011. Sigh.
-
I'm DEFINITELY getting this game, but I'm confused. How did Kushi and Susano have a child in only 6 months? He looks six YEARS old.
Why isn't this on the PSP? They better not pull the BS that SEGA does with Sonic and Nintendo.
Can't wait to see chibi Yomigami!
-

It's not on the PSP because it was designed for the DS. Using the stylus to draw etc.
-

That will apparently be explained in the game.
Why isn't this on the PSP?
Because, and I say this as someone who loves his PSP and has issues with his DS…
Nobody likes the PSP. The DS has sold millions more units, and has tons and tons of games, so its the system with the much much larger user base.
Plus, the stylus/touch screen pretty much screams for celestial brush.
-
The only good games for the PSP are Peacewalker and Echo Chrome. Maybe Loco Roco.
-
Can't wait for more Okami…
-
@Kairouseki:

Half Minute Hero
Final Fantasy: Crisis Core
Final Fantasy: Dissidia
Disgea 1 and 2
Power Stone Collection
God of War Chains of Olympus
Star Ocean 1 and 2
Castlevania:Dracula X Chronicles
Lumines
Jean D Arc
Lunar
Sega Genesis Collection
Power Stone
Sonic Rivals
Mega Man Powered Up!
Maverick Hunter X
Monster Hunter series
Metal Gear Peace Walker (as you mentioned)
Persona 3: FES
Patapon 1 and 2all disagree with you.
But the DS has tons of casual gamer fare, and titles that cash in on 20 years of Nintendo history. Marios and Zeldas and Pokemans and such. And the stupid stylus gimmick which I'm still uncomfortable with, but now that everything including phones and laptops is adapting it, I have to admit, its the future.
-
Half Minute Hero is basically one of the greatest games ever made.
-
I tried the demo of Half Minute Hero, I wanted to like it, but it just didn't click with me for some reason.
-
I find weird that Owl Thing. It's The only one outside the chinesse zodiac, and I doubt that they would leave out the fire rooster.
Besides, why spend a brush power on something that trivial like "following" (healing had some potential, but the dragon was the most useless power, and the cat should have been an item, and gotten a better power). Issun could steal with the brush, without a god allowing him to, besides Ammy, of course.
-
So wait, all the gods are old or something now and have children? Except Ammy?
-
That's does it! From this day forth, I'm on the prowl for Okami. I need this game.
I hope capcom don't release it near the 3DS.
Don't need another reason for people not to buy okami.
Isn't the 3DS capable of playing DS games? If anything, Okami might be a cheap buy for people getting a 3DS.
@robbybedfart:
Jean D Arc
I love you.
