I'm a fan of the original, so I was excited to hear that there was a remake in the works. Then I heard Nickolodean is behind it (I hate Nick) and that it was going to be live-action. So sad we can't get another hand-drawn animated film in theaters. Then I saw the cast. It looks like the casting is based on who's popular rather than who's suitable for the roles. Dakota Fanning is cast as Fern probably because the producers don't know of any other child actresses. And what the hell is Andre Benjamin doing here?

I'm excited and I'm worried about this film.

Thoughts? Opinions? Any fans of the original? Anyone else think it's odd to see Oprah Winfrey and Andre Benjamin in the same film?

I'm generally postiive about this new movie coming out (it seems like it's being well done). My only complaint is Julia Roberts as Charlotte. To me she doesn't fit the voice of Charlotte AT ALL. In my mind Charlotte is still Debbie Reynolds (who voiced her in the original animated movie).

Oprah as the Goose cracks me up though.

Honestly, I hope this won't be another Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory remake. Personally, I thought the re-make of that film wasn't that great. They replaced the Oompa Loompa song, and they look like miniature sized Kung-Fu fighters. In conclusion, stay true to the original formats.

Now, let's hope this Charlette's Web remake will be as good as the older film.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a lot more faithful to the book than Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory ever was. The main differences are the insertion of the father subplot (which I can't help but think that Dahl would like, if for nothing else than the idea of taking off to the Artic, house and all) and having the Buckets all move in with him at the end of the movie.

If I recall correctly, Dahl hated Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory with a passion so deviating from it for the remake was a good idea.

With shows like Ren & Stimpy, All That (original cast), Kenan & Kel, Allen Strange, and Cousin Skeeter, I used to love watching Nick everyday. But now all Nick is about is "I hit you. Hahahahaha!" and "I farted. Hahahahaha!"

I seriously fear what modern day Nick will do to this children's classic. I hate to say this, but we could have another Cat in the Hat on our hands.

I'm not sure how Nickelodeon being in charge of a children's film will ruin anything. If anything it's one of those things I'd rather not see a remake of.

Did you ever actually watch Ren and Stimpy? Because that's pretty much all the humor that there ever was on that show. It was a major portion of Rocko's Modern Life and Rugrats as well.

I'd take Avatar over any of those old shows.

Cat in the Hat is exceptionally awful and is as much an attempt to duplicate the puzzling success of Jim Carrey's Grinch as anything else. I doubt that they'd take that route with Charlotte's Web.

Good Burger was great back in the day, but trust me: It really does not stand the test of time. And I don't even know what Allen Strange is. The Nickelodeon I remember consisted of Salute Your Shorts, Wild and Crazy Kids, You Can't Do That On Television, and a later classic, Rocko's Modern Life. Oh, and Doug before Disney got the rights and fucked it up.

And Cat in the Hat was kinda easy to screw up, considering there really wasn't that much of a story to base an entire movie upon…

I remember "you can't do that on television"! I loved that show when I was little. I didn't know it was nickelodeon. I just knew it was on YTV (canadian kids channel)

Dude, Salute Your Shorts was THE SHOW for me back then. I watched it every chance I could, if for nothing but the theme song.

I'm still trying to be hopeful about this movie. The overall atmosphere I got from the trailer seems to be good, and I like the background music they use. And Dakota Fanning as Fern I can pass off since after the beginning Fern isn't that important.

But yeah, not really happy about that fart joke. I always thought of Charlotte's Web as beyond the realm of fart jokes.

But it is sad that she is the best actress in this film, even doe she does a good job in most of her roles.

Admitably I'm a little bias. I grew up watching Nick, and my cousin Jack De Sena is a small time actor for them. As a kid, I liked their stuff. It's made to amuse kids. It's kind of like High School Musical…I watched that with the girl I was babysitting for, and looking at in from an adult perspective, it kind of sucked. But looking at it from a kid's perspective, I could see why they like it. (and it's not as bad as some of the other trash she could have made me watch with her.) I HATED Nacho Libre oh man what a disappointment, since we went in thinking it was going to be a racy Jack Black movie...and then we saw the Nickelodeon logo. But again....10 and under? I could see them being amused. Like the Dude and Carter were saying...it's stuff for kids that maybe we'd have liked back in the day.

In any case, I know Charlotte is a classic and people here are afraid of it being messed up...but that's the breaks with any book-movie adpatation. I would give it a chance before totally freaking out. And you gotta remember that we're not the target audience. We're not the people who are going to make them money off this thing...little kids are, so they gotta give em what they want. =\

great point Seta. That reminds me of Strawberry shortcake. (original) I loved that show when I was a wee little girl. I saw an episode again, a while ago, and it sucked so much, I wanted to hurt myself. (i ruined the nastalga for that one)

As for Dakota Fanning. I like her. She's cute, and smart, and a good actor. pouts at negativity towards her

The trailers are now airing on TV, with close-ups of Charlotte. She looks….... creepy. Those eyes don't look right, them being humanish pupils for one.
