What Happened

Our old host, coconuthead, decided to pull from the hosting service, and we were adopted by a new hoster temporarily. In order for apforums.net to point to the new host, we needed wanderer-zero (domain name owner) to update the name server. He tried once on Friday night (PST), but for some reason it failed. Since then, I haven't been able to contact him, thus, forum was down for the weekend.

Now it became Monday at my place, I decided to use http://forums.cp9.org/ temporarily so we won't suffer from the forum withdrawal.

I will ask wanderer-zero for the domain name ownership when he gets back, as well as we'll probably be getting our own server soon. We will have one more down time sometime soon, but when that move is completed, we should be back to our old URL, http://apforums.net, with no contents lost.

Thank you so much for your patience and hopefully we'll enjoy the forum like always :)

ps. We will inform you before the forum goes down next time. I'm aiming for sometime this weekend…

ps2. Whoever hosted with cp9.org, I'm sorry but your files are offline until the forum moves back to apforums.net. Your files are still kept with the old host, so please wait until we get apforums.net back :)

it's more like ps, pps, ppps i think (ps stands for post scriptum, it's latin. post post scriptum as more meaning that post scriptum scriptum, right?)

We were hosted at someone's server for free, as his favor. Now we are hosted by his friend's server for free, as his favor as well. Though, we have some restriction on this one, so we are weighing our options right now. If we are to get our own server, there won't be any restriction, but it'll cost us quite some money. We'll decide what to do within this week, probably.

Is one of the restrictions not getting e-mail notifications of PMs? I've set my options so that I would get e-mail notifications, yet I never got an e-mail when I recieved a PM this morning.

I was going to PM oceanizer about this, but the server won't allow me to PM him for some reason.

Btw, using cp9.org is purely coincidental. If this happened last year, it could've been Quonne.com, the domain name I owned before getting cp9.org. ^^;

Damn all the server moving and trouble makes me glad that I'm not Arlong Park's network administrator. Hell I have to deal with network issues all the time, BUT the forum overrides all of those problems by a huge degree.

Hmm it really does suck that Arlong Park is being hosted for free because that means that at anytime it could be dropped. Plus I bet it isn't getting the full service of the network administrator. Since it is being held for a service. Luckly favors are handy for short time things.

A new server, if the site would by it's own would cost alot. Hell I once looked into hosting a site for my friends but the cost was crazy.

Believe me, it's annoying on our end too ^^;; Especially when you KNOW what's going on but can't do a bloody thing about it. (well, ocean can, but he's special) Server costs are quite expensive, it's true. We've been putting heavy thought into trying to get our own but most of us poor staff either have no job or have incredibly shitty ones, thus no money to spare for one

Most hosting is like internet, pay a monthly fee to use.

As for your own server, I'm not sure but I'd imagine you have to pay something other than buying it.

But after I changed my DNS-Server-Provider (now it is http://www.opendns.com/ ) it helped me to find this forum…
