Just in case anyone was wondering, Shanks was right. The South Pole is colder than the North Pole.
This is because the South Pole is surrounded by land covered in ice, whereas the North Pole is surrounded by water, which acts as a moderator.

Didn't they already explain that?

Maybe

Haha, poor Buggy! He could never catch a break around Shanks.

OK but is that the case for the two Poles in the One Piece world? Anyone actually have a cards from both North and South Blue to show what´s located on where the Poles have to be? :P
-
thats interesting i never thought water or ice will effect the temprature but i get what you ment like weather is colder freezes the sea but in real life i dont think there is a difference in south or north pole, Vildahawk do you have any proof behind your talk(scientificly)
-
When you freeze something it turns into a solid…not a liquid. You're taking it to that next level of cold. The closer something is to gas the more the atoms are moving around inside of it....less movement, colder. Absolute Zero (coldest anything can get) is where absulutely nothing is moving. Nothing. So yeah it makes sense....
I only slept half the time in science class lol
-
Thats why you forgot to say Absolute zero is 273 degrees and i dont see any difference in south or north there both the same both icey i.e sloid with some water area

It's also impossible to get to absolute zero. People are trying and haven't gotten there yet.

Well now you should know the difference.
-
Still looking for proof but i can live with the idea of south colder then north
-
It's also impossible to get to absolute zero. People are trying and haven't gotten there yet.
Scientists have come within one degree of it but then they hit a wall in their studies. If they could find absolute zero the world of medicine would be changed forever.
Anyway Absolute Zero exists in the deepest darkest parts of outerspace where no types of energy including light, gases, fragments of elements, ect. exists. Where there is nothingness there is absolute zero.
It'd be kind of cool if Ao Kiji could stop time and space like that by droppping the temperature of his ice to absolute zero. Then he could move throughout the ice and kill everyone while they were frozen.
-
Dude are you sure you are half asleep in science class because i dont think so anyway it will be awsome if that happened

Can you please start using punctuation?
If Aokiji made absolute zero then do you think he could move?
-
Buggy and Shanks figthing over which is colder, that's classic HAHAHAHAHA
-
If Aokiji made absolute zero then do you think he could move?
He is the absolute zero becasue he's what is causing it to be that cold. I beleuive he would be able to move throughout it. Remember that little midget guy from the Ginyu Force that could stop time? Think of something along those lines only much more death involved.
-
Could Aokiji move when it's…uh 200- out? BBBRRR....yeah he can ;)
-
Hey whats wrong with my punctuation. Yes he can move because he is the absolute zero (P.S it is said tht in absolute zero even the air freezes)
-
You barely use any. Also, when you ask a question you use this ?. Not a period.
How can they know the air freezes? They haven't been in space and space is empty.
-
The experiments they do in a laboratory. By the way nobody nows alot about absolute zero because nobody reached it and thats all thearys. DO you have a problem with me!!??(punctiation isn't it)

Wait a minute. How do they know air freezes in absolute zero by experiments in a laboratory if nobody has reached absolute zero?
No, I don't have a problem with you, so don't get defensive like that.
-
Theory, Theory! They think. They estimated the value 273. They guessed air freezes. Duudego on a vecation and stop question me
-
Scientists don't always guess. Come on.
-
in things they cant reach there alternative is to guess and sorry i've gone nuts a bit and might have offended you sorry again
-
Oxygen's Freezing Point is -218.8º Celcius
99.9% of things in the universe freeze before Absolute Zero
-
Thats interesting oxygen freezes at 218. thanks for the info and i thin by the time it reaches 273 everything will freeze
-
Yes as has been stated, evrything will freeze before absolute zero. Solid is the coldest state of matter and all matter will reach it at some point before absolute zero. The real question is what will happen to matter once it reaches absolute zero? A new state perhaps? Hopefully someday we will know.
As for the North-South debate, I'm gonna go with the North. That's where Santa is from and if hes always jumping into chimneys and such it must be pretty damn cold where he's from.
-
Shit, MB. Your pretty knowledgable

**Once the atoms in an object stop moving it becomes solid. Absolute zero can't happen if there is any kind of light visible in the area or any kind of combustion (fire) going on even in the far away distance. Sure it wouldn't be enough to say "live off of" for a human but it would be just enough to keep the temperature from reaching absolute zero.
If Ao Kiji were to take that temperature to that level with things around I think it would freeze everything. It's all just theory though. Nobody knows yet.
The only thing we do know is the only way Absolute Zero occurs is when anti-matter is the only thing present. (anti-matter is the nothingness or emptyness of space….the black stuff between the stars lol)
-
The only thing we do know is the only way Absolute Zero occurs is when anti-matter is the only thing present.
Not really, because we don't know that anti-matter actually exists.
Wait a minute. How do they know air freezes in absolute zero by experiments in a laboratory if nobody has reached absolute zero?
Heat makes molecules move really fast. Coldness makes them slow down. So if it's really really cold (say, 0K) then the molecules won't move at all.
How can they know the air freezes? They haven't been in space and space is empty.
The real problem is that space isn't empty.
If Aokiji made absolute zero then do you think he could move?
I doubt it. He wouldn't be able to move if he turned himself completely to ice, would he?
i dont see any difference in south or north there both the same both icey i.e sloid with some water area
The North Pole doesn't actually have any specific land mass.
Vildahawk do you have any proof behind your talk
Yes. Yes I do.
I think there's probably been a lot of misconceptions about physics in this thread. (I myself might be a guilty party, though I don't think so…)
We oughta get e1n in here to sort this all out. -
**> How can they know the air freezes? They haven't been in space and space is empty.
The real problem is that space isn't empty.**
Which space are you referring to? The blackness of outerspace? (sorry but the only thing to call it is space lol)
**> If Aokiji made absolute zero then do you think he could move?
I doubt it. He wouldn't be able to move if he turned himself completely to ice, would he?**
But he is Ice already….
Yeah I'm no physics major. I just have common knowledge of this stuff. Either way I doubt Oda would get too technical with Kiji's moves to be honest. The entire series has been pretty dumbed down so that kids can understand.
EDIT:
Not really, because we don't know that anti-matter actually exists.
We just can't prove it exists yet….like black holes.
-
Well I may not be a rocket scientise but you can read up on it @ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Absolute_zero and yes Air does freeze. Frozen as in they become solid blocks of solid like solid oxygen etc.
Not really, because we don't know that anti-matter actually exists.
In theory it does (so does absolute zero) and according to wikipedia scientist have managed to creat antihydrogen. Positive electrons aka positron. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-matter
-
I think Oda actually said somewhere (SBS probably?) that Shanks was right due to the South Pole behind on land. Which implies it's on land in the One Piece world too- maybe there's a big island in the middle of South Blue? We saw what the world looked like as early as the Gaimon chapter, so it's not just a case of Oda not having thought up the shape yet.
-
If a particle/antiparticle pair comes in contact with each other, the two annihilate and produce a burst of energy, which may manifest itself in the form of other particles and antiparticles or electromagnetic radiation.
Thus the big bang theory. The giant war between matter and anti-matter setting off the biggest explosion of radiation the universe has ever known…..creating us somehow lol
-
I dont think this is how we are created. Please dont talk about how we are created pleeeeese

It's just a theory. Not exactly about "how" we were created but about how the universe was created. I know this might go against your religious belief but this is just a scientific discussion. If you don't feel good about it you can stay out of this…
-
ooh strong words but i really dont care just to warn you that whenever something religious comes up there well be trouble people will disagree so its better not to talk about it. Im not saying from me but from many other people.Anything scientific theory is ok.
